(Welcome to The Daily Stream, an ongoing series in which the /Film team shares what they've been watching, why it's worth checking out, and where you can stream it.)
The Series: "The Beatles: Get Back"
Where You Can Stream It: Disney+
The Pitch: On a very basic level, "Get Back" is a vivid, verite-style, three-part docuseries of recovered and revitalized archival footage that documents the making of The Beatles' final album, "Let It Be." It begins with the band's first day in the studio, and ends a few weeks later, with what they didn't realize at the time would be their final live performance together. This is the gist of "Get Back," but it's not what it's really about.
With a nearly eight-hour runtime that's devoted almost entirely to the day-in and day-out moments of studio life, it's a portrait of creative collaboration in all its intriguing, frustrating, cool, stressful,...

San Francisco, Aug 20 (Ians) The US Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (Fdic) has issued cease-and-desist letters to five crypto companies, including leading cryptocurrency exchange Ftx, over “false and misleading statements”.
Apart from Ftx, Cryptonews.com, Cryptosec.info, SmartAsset.com, and FDICCrypto.com also received cease and desist letters on Friday, with the agency giving them 15 days to remove the “false and misleading statements” from their websites and social media accounts.
The Fdic also mentioned a now-deleted tweet that Ftx CEO Brett Harrison sent on July 20, that read “direct deposits from employers to Ftx US are stored in individually Fdic-insured bank accounts in the users’ names”.
Responding to the letter, Harrison said on Twitter on Friday that “we really didn’t mean to mislead anyone.”
“We didn’t suggest that Ftx US itself, or that crypto/non-fiat assets, benefit from Fdic insurance”, he claimed.
“Per the Fdic’s instructions, I deleted the tweet.

Now that was a good hour of television.
I have been actively rooting for flashbacks for quite some time now, and Surface Season 1 Episode 6 delivered in every single way. This has always been not only the story of Sophie but also the story of Sophie and James.
Their journey to this specific moment in time is so crucial to understanding so much of what came before, and now that James has finally come clean, we have some answers, but there are still some unshaded areas to decipher as we head into the final two hours.
I hate to say I told you so, but I must say that learning that James wasn't the one who pushed Sophie off the ferry felt like a triumphant moment because the evidence was too grandiose to be true.
James isn't a perfect human being, not by a long shot, but a murderous madman?...

Eric Weiner’s ‘Deadly Detention’ Turns ‘The Breakfast Club’ into a Bloody Slasher [Buried in a Book]
Trapping characters in a single location makes for a compelling story. And having everyone be strangers certainly helps rack up conflict and drama as well. Sure, it’s an overworked formula at this point, but the results are undeniable. Eric Weiner, a ghostwriter for Fear Street Sagas, gave the recipe a whirl in his 1994 book Deadly Detention. He was clearly inspired by one of the most seminal examples of these “bottle” tales, The Breakfast Club, but unlike John Hughes’ benchmark of teen movies, the characters in this story aren’t mired in expectations or concerned with social constructs. No, these young detainees are running from a more tangible threat — one hoping to keep them in school forever.
The book begins with the six main characters reporting to their disciplinary destination, classroom 301 at Harrison High School. For a few hours on this ill-fated afternoon, these unlucky students belong to Mr. Lance Crowley.

Much has changed at Warner Bros. Discovery following the merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery earlier this year. CEO David Zaslav is completely overhauling the company's streaming strategy as well as DC Films, with a new 10-year plan for DC said to be in place. That has meant a lot of projects being canceled. Aside from "Batgirl," which has (rightfully) received a great deal of attention, the anthology series "Strange Adventures" was also scrapped at HBO Max. It turns out, we probably lost something with a lot of potential in the process.
Kevin Smith ("Clerks") had been on deck to direct one of the episodes, one which he co-wrote alongside Eric Carrasco ("Supergirl") that would have centered on Bizarro, an alternate universe "mirror image" of Superman from the pages of DC Comics. As Smith previously revealed, the hope was to get none other than Nicolas Cage to play Bizarro, given that...

Next spring, 15 years after the polarizing “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” Harrison Ford will once again grace movie screens in his iconic fedora. The long awaited (but still untitled) “Indiana Jones 5” has been a passion project of Ford’s for years, and many fans can’t wait to see what director James Mangold does with the iconic character. With recent films such as “Top Gun: Maverick” proving that long-dormant action franchises are still capable of delivering classic sequels, expectations for Indiana Jones’ final adventure are sky high.
In a new interview with Men’s Health, “Indiana Jones 5” star Boyd Holbrook made it clear that the excitement from fans is justified. The actor said he recently watched some footage from the film with Mangold and was thrilled with what he saw.
“I can assure you that it’s going to be badass,” Holbrook said. “I...

Look at her, she’s Sandra Dee… and also a spandex-rocking stiletto queen. Those extremes were dictated by the plot of “Grease,” but Olivia Newton-John had a strong narrative arc in her recording career, too. First, she was the country-pop crossover queen who set a template for Shania Twain; then, a dance-pop princess who could well have been the proto-Kylie; finally, a mature balladeer leaning toward self-help material that befit the public struggles and inspirational tone of her life’s difficult last act.
In celebration of the pop icon who died Monday at age 73, here’s a survey dedicated to covering the musical peaks and occasional eccentricities of a career that stretched from her film debut in 1965 to her ’70s and early ’80s heyday to her reflective final albums in the 2010s. The “Hopelessly Devoted” singer doesn’t deserve anything less than 25 critical devotionals.
