Henry Cavill has a lot of upcoming projects, but the one film he is particularly excited about is the Highlander reboot. The actor is one of the most demanded stars in the film industry at present. His unfortunate exit from The Witcher has opened up his schedule, and he is making the most of it.
Cavill is passionate about his projects, and it translates onto the screen flawlessly. The British actor has been a part of several big franchises in his career to date, and he looks set to become the face of yet another one soon.

“Under the Tuscan Sun” meets “The Godfather” in the latest comedy from multi-hyphenate Toni Collette.
The “Hereditary” star plays an insecure American who inherits her grandfather’s mafia empire in Italy in “Mafia Mamma,” directed by Catherine Hardwicke. Guided by the firm’s trusted consigliere (Monica Bellucci), Collette hilariously defies everyone’s expectations, including her own, as the new head of the family business.
Giulio Corso, Francesco Mastroianni, Alfonso Perugini, Sophia Nomvete, Eduardo Scarpetta, Tim Daish, and Tommy Rodger also star.
Hardwicke directs from a script by Michael J. Feldman and Debbie Jhoon. Lead star Collette produces along with Christopher Simon and Amanda Sthers.
Hardwicke previously told IndieWire’s Kate Erbland that she strives to emphasize “complex female characters” onscreen.
“I think now, as women, we want to see somebody that takes charge of their life and does the very best they can in their power to escape, fight back,...

Hollywood star Henry Cavill is in talks to essay a starring role in the "Highlander" reboot. "John Wick" director Chad Stahelski will direct the film, sources told deadline.com, while Kerry Williamson has penned the script.
The original 1986 "Highlander" film starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortal beings, hunting down one another and collecting power.
The catchphrase of the film - "There can be only one" - became popular, and there were four sequels and three television series including a hit series starring Adrian Paul.
The plot of the new film is being kept under wraps, as well as whether Cavill will play a brand new character or a character from previous projects if he signs the film.
The reboot has been in development for a while with names like Ryan Reynolds and "Fast & Furious 9" director Justin Lin being associated with the project at some point.

There can be only one Highlander, but apparently, Henry Cavill can be many superheroes.
Adding to his growing list of marquee franchises, the star of “Man of Steel” and Netflix’s “The Witcher” is in negotiations to star in Lionsgate’s reboot of “Highlander,” the 1986 fantasy adventure film that spawned an entire pop-culture ecosystem, including sequels, TV series, tie-in novels, comics and video games.
Chad Stahelski (“John Wick”) is directing, with Neal H. Moritz, Josh Davis and David Leitch producing. Amanda Lewis, Patrick Wachsberger and Gregory Widen will executive produce. Kerry Williamson (“What Happened to Monday”) is writing.
Cavill’s role is unclear, but he will be one of two leads in the film. The original film starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod — a Scottish warrior born in the 16th century who learns he is an immortal after he dies in battle, only to come back to life — and Sean Connery as Connor’s mentor,...

John Wick co-director Chad Stahelski has jumped on board another great sounding film project. It's called Sandman Slim and based on a nine-book supernatural fantasy series by Richard Kadrey. This sounds like a great project for Stahelski and there's no doubt it will end up being a crazy film.
The story centers on James 'Sandman Slim" Stark, a "fast-talking, hard-boiled, supernatural vigilante who escapes from Hell to avenge his girlfriend’s murder and hunt down the magicians responsible for getting him sent 'downtown.'"
The movie will be written by Kerry Williamson, who recently co-wrote the fantastic Netflix film, What Happened to Monday.
Before Stahelski jumps into the development of this project he will direct the third installment of Keanu Reeves' John Wick. I wasn't familiar with this book series until today but it sounds awesome! I think I'm going to have to start reading it. Here's the description...

Editor’s Note: This article is presented in partnership with Netflix’s original film “What Happened to Monday?” – now streaming on Netflix.
Although he’s best known to American audiences for his funny and gruesome spins on old-fashioned fairy tales that follow characters as wide-ranging as zombie Nazis (“Dead Snow”) and candy-seeking children (“Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters”), Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola has some other tricks up his sleeve. With his “What Happened to Monday?,” Wirkola tackles high-concept sci-fi, thanks to an ambitious story that follows seven identical sisters (all played by Noomi Rapace) trapped in a future society that only allows just one child per household.
In the film, each sister is assigned a day of the week – and a matching name – in which they’re allowed out of their apartment (and the watchful eye of their surrogate dad, played by Willem Dafoe) for a little slice of living.

Taking a page from Tatiana Maslany and Cate Blanchett, the latest role for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Prometheus star Noomi Rapace finds her playing septuplets in the aptly-named Seven Sisters. Once titled What Happened to Monday?, the first trailer has now arrived ahead of a release in France this summer. (No U.S. release has been set yet, but Netflix has the streaming rights.)
Directed by Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) based on a Black List script by Max Botkin and Kerry Williamson, it imagines a future where there’s a one child policy, so Rapace’s characters are always on the run as they pretend to be a single person. Judging from the trailer, as well as the director’s past work, we imagine, despite not having lofty ambitions, this could be some late-summer, high-concept fun.

Willem Dafoe and Glenn Close are set to join Tommy Wirkola's sci-fi tale "What Happened to Monday?" which is set in a future where overpopulation and famine have forced governments to undertake a drastic One-Child Policy.
Seven identical sisters (played by Noomi Rapace) live a hide-and-seek existence who outwit authorities by taking turns assuming the identity of one person: Karen Settman. Each named after a day of the week, each can go outside of their apartment one day a week using their common identity. Then, one day, Monday does not come home.
Wirkola ("Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters") is directing from a script written by Kerry Williamson and Max Botkin. Marwan Kenzari, Christian Rubeck and Pal Sverre Hagen also star and filming is now underway in Bucharest at the Castel Film Studios.

Far back in the mists of 2009, Fox bought the rights to Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta novels, with an eye on a movie franchise. Angelina Jolie was attached to star, and Kerry Williamson was writing the screenplay. Since then, we've heard nothing, and Williamson defected to James Patterson and adapted Alex Cross instead. But as Cornwell's readers will know, Scarpetta keeps fighting.Liz Friedman has just been pegged to write a new Scarpetta screenplay, making the jump to films after regular writing and producing gigs on the small-screen likes of Elementary, Orange Is The New Black and House MD. She's currently working on Netflix/ Marvel's Jessica Jones as an executive producer, and her Jessica Jones colleague, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, will also join the Scarpetta crew as a producer, along with Mark Gordon (Rampart, Arms And The Dudes) and Geyer Kosinski (the current TV Fargo).Intriguingly, when he's not wearing his producing hat,...

It takes a lot of guts to say, "We just did the last, indistinguishable Underworld sequel, maybe one of the biggest stars in the world wants to work with us!" But that's just what's happening with Millennium Films and directors Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein. The duo are behind South China Sea, a pretty bombastic-sounding action film, and their sights are set high on who they want to lead the project. Someone put their big boy pants on today! Deadline reports that an offer is out to Tom Cruise to star in South China Sea. Written by Kerry Williamson (Alex Cross) with a re-write by Michael Stokes (The Marsh), the action thriller has an absolutely classic set-up. The story follows a tough-as-nails female police lieutenant who must free her nemesis, a legendary American pirate, from custody. Not only is he the only one who can take down a team of...

Author James Patterson has been writing about his infamous detective, Alex Cross, for several years now. So far, there have been 17 books and three film adaptations. Now I’ve never read a single one of his popular novels, but I have seen the films. Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider were interesting mysteries, and while they may not have been particularly great films, at the very least they had the great Morgan Freeman as the brooding, contemplative detective. Now we come to the third adaptation, simply titled Alex Cross, which no longer features Freeman. If it was Freeman who opted not to come back, it seems he knew exactly when to jump ship. However, if it was the filmmakers who decided to replace him, then they couldn’t have made a bigger mistake.
As the film opens, we find Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) going about his normal job.

I don't go see every movie. I do my best to see as many as I can, but there are some I just don't feel I need to see in order to do my job. Those I tend to skip are films I'm quite certain I will not enjoy because what need is there, really, for me to head into a movie in a foul mood, with little enthusiasm to review a movie? Especially if said movie is the reason my mood is so foul. That said, sometimes the job takes you places you would prefer not to go and sometimes those movies you don't expect to be very good are movies you need to go see. Such films found their way onto this list. Some of the other entries are simply films I wanted to be good, films that piqued my curiosity or just thought would be fun. They weren't.

We’ve been here before. In both 1997 and 2001 Morgan Freeman took on the role in two mediocre offerings (Kiss The Girls and Along Came a Spider), the best thing about which (you’ve guessed it) was Freeman himself. This time around The Fast and the Furious director Rob Cohen is on board and has made Tyler Perry his first mate. Why? Well I’m not quite sure, but I’ll get onto that.
The story, pieced together from a few different Cross books concerns a serial killer known as Picasso (Matthew Fox). A cage fighter who tortures and kills people for pleasure and inexplicably leaves cubist sketches behind at the murder scenes. Soon enough criminal profiler and all round man of action Alex Cross (Perry) is on the case. A lot of rather unpleasant stuff then unfolds, delivered with a consummate laziness that it’s terribly hard to engage with.

Tyler Perry (For Colored Girls) steps away from Medea and gets more serious in the thriller movie Alex Cross.
Based on James Patterson‘s novel Cross, the film follows the Detroit Police Department homicide detective/psychologist (Perry) as he takes on one of his toughest cases. Cross plays a cat and mouse game with a serial killer called Picasso (Matthew Fox, TV’s Lost). After Picasso makes the mission personal, Cross is pushed to the edge of his moral and psychological limits.
The character of Cross is, of course, the same one who was played by Morgan Freeman (Seven) in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider.
Rated PG-13, Alex Cross also stars Giancarlo Esposito (TV’s Breaking Bad), Rachel Nichols (Conan the Barbarian), Jean Reno (Armored), Ed Burns (Edward Burns) and John C. McGinley (Platoon). The...

You’d think a thriller about a brilliantly dogged detective matching wits with a sadistically smart serial killer would be at least somewhat entertaining. You’d be right in thinking that too, and if that’s the kind of film you’re looking for I recommend Memories of Murder, Copycat or Seven to fill your needs. Because there’s nothing about the new film Alex Cross that comes even close to brilliant, smart or intentionally entertaining. Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) is a homicide detective and doctor (of some kind but probably a psychologist) in Detroit who’s grown weary of his police beat and is considering taking an adviser role with the FBI. Before he can convince his pregnant wife that the move to Washington DC is in their best interest he’s tasked with solving a multiple murder with a tortured woman at its center. Cross’ team includes his childhood friend, Det...

Tyler Perry, best known for his performances as the sassy female character Madea, makes a dramatic shift playing detective and criminal psychologist Alex Cross in veteran director Rob Cohen’s big-screen fumble of the James Patterson novel "Cross," one of many crime novels in the popular author’s "Alex Cross" series. In a loose and surprisingly awful adaptation of Patterson’s 12th "Alex Cross" novel by writers Marc Moss and Kerry Williamson, Cross chases a sadistic killer-for-hire (Matthew Fox) through the streets of Detroit on what may be his last case before taking a job with the F.B.I. and relocating to Washington D.C. We're introduced to the title character, detective (and doctor) Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) and his team -- Tommy (Ed Burns) and Monica (Rachel Nichols) -- in a routine foot chase as a means of getting to know the generic group dynamic. This is followed by an introduction to the film's villain (Matthew Fox) whose been hired to carry out a series of high-profile killings, the first of which he carries out by worming his way into an underground boxing match as a means of capturing the attention of a young female we'll soon come to know as his first victim. It's at this point Alex Cross could have actually kicked in. To do so would have introduced us to the film's killer, knowing nothing about him other than the...

Exclusive: I’ve learned that the deal coming together will turn bestselling author James Patterson’s crime novel Double Cross into a 2nd movie starring Tyler Perry as the famous Washington DC crimefighter/psychologist. Perry’s first turn as Alex Cross opens this Friday from Qed. Summit Entertainment is distributing in the U.S. It’s Perry’s first lead role that he didn’t produce or direct or write – and his reviews so far have been rather good. Certainly a lot better than I expected from the star of the crossdressing Madea movies. Although the critics have been harsh on helmer Rob Cohen and the film as a whole. Qed International’s Bill Block put together Alex Cross at a cost of only $25M (lowered to $23M with Louisiana tax subsidies). He chased down the book rights from Patterson for under $1 million, then hired Marc Moss and Kerry Williamson...

-- James Patterson titled his 12th Alex Cross crime novel simply "Cross." The filmmakers who adapted it expanded the title to "Alex Cross."

Perry's name will draw his fans in. Patterson's name will draw his fans in. There's no trace of Madea in director Rob Cohen's adaptation, yet the spirit of the sassy grandma inevitably hangs over the project for viewers curious to see Perry playing it straight and dramatic.

The first trailer and poster for the upcoming crime/thriller Alex Cross landed back in June, and gave us a brilliant look at the film and what we can expect from it. In short, we should be seeing a great new side of Tyler Perry, and an immense new side to Matthew Fox as the antagonist, who looks more hench/intense than almost anyone ever.
The film will be opening first in Russia, ahead of its UK and Us releases, and now a new poster promoting that Russian release has made its way online – you’d be forgiven for thinking it was a poster for Safe House, because this new poster looks almost identical to some we saw for the Denzel Washington- / Ryan Reynolds-starrer earlier in the year.
