Days after her grandmother’s death, a young professional woman returns to her family home to sort through what was left behind. Wrapped in a blanket to warm herself from the storm raging outside, the woman senses a ghostly presence, one that visited her in a dream the night before. The presence begins to speak, bidding the woman closer, promising that he loves her as much as he once loved her grandmother. Terror grips the woman’s face, but with it, desire.

“Star Trek: Discovery” is still filming its fifth season, but the show’s cast and crew showed up at New York Comic-Con to offer a first glimpse at what’s to come.
Along with a sizzle reel for the new season, which you can watch above, “Star Trek” showrunner Alex Kurtzman announced that “The Umbrella Academy” star Callum Keith Rennie is joining the cast along with Eve Harlow (“Agents of Shield”) and Elias Toufexis (“Shadowhunters”).
Rennie will play Capt. Reyner, a Starfleet officer used to commanding his ship in times of war, but finds it much harder to be a leader during times of peace. Harlow and Toufexis will play a pair of couriers who have now turned to a life of crime.

Fans of Star Trek: Discovery were given some exciting information at New York Comic Con.
We got an exciting new trailer, photos, and confirmation that there will be three new cast members.
Callum Keith Rennie will star as Rayner, Elias Toufexis as L'ak, and Eve Harlow as Moll.
Series star Sonequa Martin-Green joined the panel virtually from set in Michael Burnham’s captain’s chair.
Rayner is a gruff, smart Starfleet Captain who holds a clear line between commander and crew – he leads, they follow.
Rayner’s all about the mission, whatever it may be, and he doesn’t do niceties along the way; his feeling is, you get the job done and apologize later.
He has a storied track record of wartime success, but in times of peace he struggles.
Collaboration is not his strong suit. That said, if it serves the greater good he’s willing to learn...

Over the years, some female characters have caused an unusual amount of ire in their respective fandoms; rarely is it justified.
We tend to see an unnecessary amount of vitriol getting spewed on characters who are mainly there to act as a foil or cause conflict to the male hero.
The amount a woman gets hated on is often related to how much the fans adore the male characters. In other cases, she might be too flawed, too perfect, or even just exist while being a woman. And let's not forget old-fashioned racism!
Here we'll look at some female characters who have incensed large populations of their show's fandoms and argue about whether it was deserved (Spoiler Alert: It probably wasn't).
Note: Sometimes, the hatred crosses over to the actress playing the hated character, and you can read about some of those here.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode 4
If there’s one thing Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is trying to make clear, it’s that hanging out in the Star Trek universe isn’t safe. While The Next Generation and Voyager may have had the reputation for looking and feeling a little too cozy, Strange New Worlds continues the grittier vibe from Discovery, which also references the rough-and-tumble nature of The Original Series.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode 4, “Memento Mori,” is its darkest episode yet, with a ton of nods to The Original Series, the classic films, and an interesting sideways nod to Lower Decks. Here’s every Easter egg and reference we caught while the Enterprise faced off with the Gorn for the first time…

No ship or crew gets anywhere without its captain, and in truth, that captain dictates the tone of the journey, not only the success of the mission.
As Captain Christopher Pike, in command of the USS Enterprise on Paramount+'s new series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Anson Mount steps into a role previously taken on by other actors, but never with the fan anticipation that greeted the premiere of this series.
Speaking virtually with TV Fanatic and other outlets on a recent press day, Mount expresses gratitude and wonder at becoming a part of the Star Trek culture and family.
In terms of broadcast history, Pike is the first captain Star Trek floated for the Enterprise. Before William Shatner portrayed Captain James T. Kirk on the premiere in 1966, Jeffrey Hunter played Pike on the first pilot episode, "The Cage."
The pilot didn't test well, and "The Cage" never aired.

Oh, baby, this has been a long time coming.
Announced over two years ago, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 Episode 1 is very much the result of the fan love that poured out for Pike, Spock, and Una after they appeared on Star Trek: Discovery Season 2.
That being said, nothing prepared me for the sheer delight of this new series.
While the premiere provides a lot of backstory and context, there's also a benefit to the Big Three being introduced on Discovery.
Anson Mount's Pike is a uniquely situated Trek character in that we have seen where he's been through his time with Discovery, but we also know where he'll end up because of Star Trek: The Original Series.
Furthermore, while he was with Discovery, he saw his future while on Boreth on Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 Episode 12.
Spock: Sir, I would suggest knowledge of death is vital for effective leadership.

This article contains spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery season 2.
If you’ve slept on new TV Star Trek for the past several years, there’s a good chance you’re thinking of beaming back in with the debut of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. And, in terms of understanding the future of where the franchise is headed, this new series is a pretty perfect place for a casual viewer to create their own personal Star Trek reboot. In all meaningful ways, Strange New Worlds is an approachable and less canon-obsessed Star Trek than some more recent entries. Its aesthetic and flavor will also remind longtime viewers of both The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation. But if you missed Star Trek: Discovery season 2 or Short Treks, you may be a little confused by a few very specific details.

Of all the classic Star Trek characters portrayed in Paramount+'s newest Star Trek series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Spock is the indisputable heavyweight.
Portrayed by the legendary Leonard Nimoy in every episode of Star Trek: The Original Series, all six of the Original Series films, and two of the Kelvin Timeline films, any new actor would be understandably daunted by the enormous responsibility of taking on the character.
Ethan Peck has faced and triumphed over that exact challenge, stepping into the role in 2019 on Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 when Anson Mount's Captain Christopher Pike enlists Sonequa Martin-Green's Michael Burnham to help find Spock, her adopted brother.
Now, with the launch of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on May 5, Peck is our full-time Spock with all the history and canon the role encompasses.

Star Trek TV shows are multiplying like Tribbles these days. Starting with 2017’s Star Trek: Discovery — the first Trek show in more than a decade — the iconic sci-fi franchise has rolled out five new shows on Paramount+ in the past five years. As a lifelong Trekkie, it’s been a pleasure to navigate this wealth of Trek content, but I also have to be honest: It hasn’t always been smooth sailing.

One can't help but assume that "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" was the result of a fan write-in campaign. The kicker at the end of the final episode of the first season of "Star Trek: Discovery" was that Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the U.S.S. Discovery met up with the U.S.S. Enterprise, leaning as hard as possible into the show's ever-present nostalgia factor. Given the timeline of "Discovery," James T. Kirk would not yet be captain of the enterprise, but Christopher Pike — originally seen as the lead character of "Star Trek" in the unused-for-many-years 1966 pilot — would be.

The following contains Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 spoilers.
The primary story of Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 has gone back to many of the basics that make the Star Trek franchise so great, asking big questions about the necessary conflicts between visionary ideals and the real world those who hold them must exist in. A season that has continually wrestled with what an institution like the Federation is supposed to be and do, its central arc explores the inescapable, often uncomfortable tensions between hope and pragmatism, philosophy and realism, and politics and practicality. But while these are precisely the sort of stories that Star Trek is uniquely positioned to explore, this season has rarely featured arcs that might be called “fun.”

The biggest question facing Captain Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) for the latter half of Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 is clearly whether or not she’ll end up being a good cat-sitter for Book’s cat Grudge. All kidding aside, in addition to Book leaving his cat Maine Coon Cat, Grudge, in Michael’s care, Disco’s resident space badass has also skipped out on the crew, stolen an experimental portable version of the Spore Drive, and now intends to deliver a highly illegal weapon into the heart of the Dark Matter Anomaly with the help of a questionable scientist who may or may not be from an alternate universe.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery Season 4, Episode 4 “All Is Possible.”] The U.S.S. Discovery may have just said goodbye to one of its crew, but don’t worry: She’ll be back. In the latest Star Trek: Discovery episode, Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) was tasked with teaching a training exercise for Starfleet Academy, and she brought Adira (Blu del Barrio) along. (They were surprised to learn they were being treated as a cadet during it.) But the exercise became very real when they crashed on the wrong moon and faced a deadly alien. After they were rescued (one cadet died), Tilly realized that she wanted to accept a job offer to teach at the academy. “Getting my lieutenant post was the worst day of my life,” she admitted to Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) in a touching farewell scene. “When I got the pips, all of a sudden I realized my mom is 900 years ...

“We always knew this was a journey to the chair, but I couldn’t have imagined how rich the journey was going to be to the chair,” Sonequa Martin-Green says on Deadline’s Hero Nation podcast about her Michael Burnham finally being named the first Black female Star Trek Captain in Season 4 of Paramount+’s Star Trek: Discovery.
Listen to our conversation with Martin-Green and Star Trek: Discovery creator Alex Kurtzman below:
“Everything I had to learn as Burnham and all the healing inwardly and accepting of inner self before I sat down in that seat, it’s really amazing,” Martin-Green says. “It makes the fact that this is a historical moment.”
“Burnham has learned how to confront herself, but truly, no human is without flaw,” she adds.
Kurtzman, in also detailing how the writers “blew Burnham apart” unlike other Star Trek captains before her, also lays out the future of Paramount’s sci-fi franchise.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 3
For fans who feel like Star Trek: Discovery is the Deep Space Nine of the 21st century, the latest episode — “Choose To Live” — will only make that case stronger. Yes, although the Romulans warrior nuns from Star Trek: Picard take center stage in this episode, the vast majority of Easter eggs and callbacks will make Niners very happy.

In keeping with the impressive production value of the season so far, Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 3 ups the game with the alien "moon" vessel, the Ni'Var Science Institute, and even Discovery's crew lounge, a space I don't think we've seen in the Prime Universe since Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 Episode 7.
Of the three, the Aronian (waiting for Memory Alpha to provide the definitive correct spelling) ship is both the most foreign and the most mind-blowing.
But it's not just technological bells and whistles being trotted out. Gabrielle Burnham's return is nothing to sneeze at, and neither is Book's restorative mind meld. Furthermore, Gray's successful incorporation heralds hope of a high degree for Adira and their future.
At the most simplistic level, the main plotline is the mystery of why a Qowat Milat would attack and kill Starfleet officers in order to steal dilithium shipments that are being given away freely.

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for Season 4, Episode 2: “Anomaly.”
Just because Star Trek: Discovery now flies in the year 3189, centuries after any other Star Trek series or film, the writers still intentionally reference the vast canon of Trek. Part of this is because the Disco writers are big Trek fans too, but it’s also about making sure everything connects. Recently, showrunner Michelle Paradise said Easter eggs and references are there to ground Discovery “within the larger Star Trek universe,” because they don’t “want to be on an island somewhere.”
So, in terms of nerdy callbacks, Disco isn’t Lower Decks, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some amazing deep-cuts that get slipped in each episode. In Discovery Episode 2, “Anomaly,” the crew tries to deepen their understanding of what’s going on with the phenomenon that destroyed Kwejian. The stakes are getting higher, but along the way,...

Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 2
One of the major questions of Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 seems to be how Michael Burnham will balance the professional and personal sides of herself now that she has become a captain. As the person responsible for an entire ship and the lives of its crew, it naturally follows that she’s going to have to make harder, more difficult choices than she was before she earned her spot in that chair. Sometimes that will mean recognizing that she can’t thoughtlessly risk herself the way she used to, but in others, it means she’ll have to give those in her command the chance to risk themselves, even – and maybe most especially – when she doesn’t particularly want them to do so.
Given everything we know about Michael, we’ve already seen that isn’t something...

Paramount+’s “Star Trek” franchise keeps shaking things up.
Its flagship series “Discovery,” now in its fourth season, has a new leader in the captain’s chair: Sonequa Martin-Green’s Michael Burnham, whose remarkable arc over the series’ previous 39 episodes set up this moment of her ascension to be especially fulfilling.
But “Discovery” is also doing something that “Trek” has never fully embraced before: interconnectedness among its various shows airing at the moment (especially “Picard”) as well as those that wrapped more than 20 years ago, such as “Deep Space Nine” and “Voyager.” Even when those particular shows aired simultaneously in the ‘90s, they occupied clearly separate lanes, with almost no connections between them. Call it the influence of MCU storytelling — something that also seems planned for Disney+’s explosion of “Star Wars” series in the near future — or simply cannier brand management, but in the first episode of “Discovery” Season...

Burnham and the Star Trek: Discovery crew rushed to help a space station spinning out of control in the Season 4 premiere — and the new captain earned a new adversary in the process.
Burnham and Book open the premiere on a remote planet populated by chalky white butterfly people, offering them dilithium as a gesture of goodwill. Their emperor is suspicious, though, and when Book tells them about Grudge the cat, he gets angry: “Have you come to make pets of us?” They go into attack mode and grow giant butterfly wings, chasing after a fleeing Burnham and Book. This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for Season 4, Episode 1.
Star Trek captains are like secret agents or base jumpers: they’re constantly trying to figure out how to not die while, at the same time, recognizing that the dangerous situation they’re in are partially their fault. In Star Trek: Discovery’s Season 4 premiere episode — “Kobayashi Maru” — Captain Michael Burnham is forced to relearn the most hardcore starship captain lesson in all of Trek: You can’t always win and you can’t always save everyone.
The basic idea of the Kobayashi Maru has its roots in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and since 1982 has created a warning for the entire Star Trek canon: Even if you think certain main characters are protected by plot armor, the non-win scenario is always there, threatening to make Trek get real. In Discovery’s “Kobayashi Maru,” this idea comes back in a big way,...

Roger Ebert was never a fan of the “Star Trek” franchise, whether the movies with the “Original Series” cast, the “Next Generation” cast, or the 2009 J.J. Abrams reboot. But he saved his most withering barb for the franchise in, oddly enough, his glowing review of “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace.”
“As for the bad rap about the characters,” the late critic wrote of George Lucas’s opus, “Hey, I’ve seen space operas that put their emphasis on human personalities and relationships. They’re called ‘Star Trek’ movies. Give me transparent underwater cities and vast hollow senatorial spheres any day.”
Ouch. But here’s the thing: “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 4 has reached that level of eye-tickling worldbuilding and has done so seamlessly. The season premiere, titled “Kobayashi Maru,” actually has a couple scenes set in a transparent underwater city that’s gorgeous to behold. Eat your heart out,...

While Star Trek has always been a story of the many versus the one, when Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 premiered in 2017, it introduced audiences to a new and central character, Michael Burnham; a human Starfleet officer raised on Vulcan after being orphaned as a child whose fate is tied to that of the universe, it seems.
As Burnham, Sonequa Martin-Green has helmed this cast as they traveled to the Mirror Universe, ended a war with the Klingons, solved the Red Angel mystery, battled Control for the Sphere data, and then leaped 930 years into the future where they, once again, saved the universe.
Meanwhile, running the show since the midpoint of Star Trek: Discovery Season 2, Michelle Paradise has been the off-screen creative force behind the flagship of Paramount+'s reborn Star Trek franchise.

“Let’s Fly!” With those words, newly minted USS Discovery Capt. Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) issues her first command as the starship heads out on a new adventure, after Season 3’s bloody conclusion. Welcome to Star Trek: Discovery’s exciting fourth season (premiering November 18 on Paramount+). Look out for dangerous new enemies, the return of a favorite character, and the newly corporeal presence of a familiar one in Season 4, which introduces a never-before-encountered toxic entity that threatens not only the starship, but the universe in the 900-plus year future in which the Discovery crew now exists. As Burnham says in the trailer, “Today we seek to understand a threat like none our galaxy has faced before.” It’s a good thing they now have a batch of the ship-fueling dilithium that could help in their survival, and in reconnecting far-flung worlds once again. While details are still under wraps, executive...

Paramount+'s Star Trek: Discovery is the flagship of the modern-day Star Trek television franchise, premiering in 2017 and about to launch its fourth season on November 18.
Mary Wiseman has been with the series from the beginning as Sylvia Tilly, once Michael Burnham's neurotic, over-sharing roommate, and now her best friend.
In contrast, David Ajala was a new face on Star Trek: Discovery Season 3. His character, Cleveland Booker, encounters Burnham when she first arrives in the 32nd century and becomes both partner and lover over the course of the season.
Speaking with the press via a digital roundtable, Wiseman and Ajala are a delightful duo, cracking jokes between thoughtful answers to plot and character questions.
As the series centers on Michael Burnham, now captain of the Discovery, how much interpersonal tension there is between the captain's bestie and her boyfriend.
Wiseman leads off with a tongue-in-cheek dig. "We don't have that many scenes together,...
