Fathom Events, the premier name in specialty distribution, is partnering with New York-based Paper Canoe Company to bring the new fantasy film Man and Witch: The Dance of a Thousand Steps to theaters nationwide this summer, we’ve learned this week.
Coinciding with the 40th Anniversary of The NeverEnding Story, the film marks the long-anticipated return to the big screen of that film’s iconic Childlike Empress, Tami Stronach, in her first film role since the Fantasy classic. The feature debut of veteran comedy director Michael Hines (the long-running Scottish cult comedy Still Game), Man and Witch is a labor of love from producer and star Stronach and her husband, co-star, and the film’s writer Greg Steinbruner.

Principal photography for “Man & Witch,” an homage to the fantasy films of the 1980s, has wrapped after a six-week shoot on location in Scotland and Los Angeles.
The film, directed by Michael Hines (“Still Game”) marks the comeback of child star Tami Stronach, best known for her role as the Childlike Empress in “The NeverEnding Story” (1984). Stronach plays the title role of Witch who helps a cursed goatherd in his quest for love. Sean Astin (“Stranger Things”), Jennifer Saunders (“Absolutely Fabulous”), Eddie Izzard (“Hannibal”) and Bill Bailey (“Hot Fuzz”) voice the goatherd’s loyal companions Dog, Goose, Sheep and Donkey, brought to life with photo-realistic puppets fabricated by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, and operated by a team of puppeteers led by Damien Farrell (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”).

Initiative with Media Trust hunts undiscovered filmmaking talent.
Sarah Grant was last night announced as the winner of Dream to Screen, a nationwide search to find the UK’s brightest young film maker.
The initiative, launched by Cineworld cinemas and Media Trust with support from the Jack Petchey Foundation, drew to a close at an awards ceremony at the Cineworld O2, hosted by Fresh Meat star Greg McHugh.
Grant, aged 24, was named the best of 500 other young hopefuls and four finalists.
Her prize includes seeing her winning film, The Cyclist showcased in Cineworld cinemas nationwide in November and she will also receive an all-expenses paid trip to Los Angeles, to learn from Hollywood’s leading talent, provided and organised by 20th Century Fox.
As a competition finalist, Grant was mentored by director-producer Michael Hines (Still Game).
