All sober-minded pop culture fans adhere to one important maxim: everything’s better with Nicolas Cage. And sure enough, Cage was a stand-out in the wonderful animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, as the comically hardboiled Spider-Man Noir. Every time Cage spit out a line about drinking egg creams and punching Nazis, audiences couldn’t help but cheer However, Cage isn’t the only thing that makes Spider-Verse‘s comedic take on Spider-Man Noir work. It also works because it’s limited, appearing in just a few scenes and making room for Miles Morales to be the far more dynamic heart of the piece. So as much as we love Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir, the recently-announced Spider-Man Noir live-action series sounds potentially ill-fated, especially if Cage’s character ends up being the same gag from the animated movies.

When we talk about perfect casting choices -- even outside the realm of superhero movies -- J.K. Simmons as The Daily Bugle head honcho J. Jonah Jameson in "Spider-Man" has to be right up there with the best of the best. Simmons so perfectly encapsulated the role that he has, essentially, been kept on as just about every version of the character throughout the Marvel multiverse, as evidenced by "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." But before Simmons signed on for the role, he was seen as perfect for another, very different role in Spidey's rogues gallery.

5 Essential Spider-Man Noir Comics You Must Read - Main Image
The live-action adaptation of Spider-Man Noir is coming to Prime Video, and Nicolas Cage will reprise his role as the alternate version of the Friendly Neighbourhood superhero.
It was in 2009 when Marvel Comics started creating a line of Marvel Noir comics that included Spider-Man Noir.
Unlike regular Marvel comics, the noir line takes place in an alternate universe where stories of familiar Marvel characters are reinterpreted to feature a hardboiled / crime noir atmosphere set during the Great Depression era in the US.
Here are the Spider-Man Noir comics you should read, created by David Hine and Fabrice Sapolsky, alongside artists Carmine Di Giandomenico (who drew the first stories) and Marko Djurdjević (costume designer).

5 Characters We Could See In Prime Video's Spider-Man Noir - Main Image
MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video recently announced a new live-action adaptation of Spider-Man Noir. In addition to Nicolas Cage's portrayal of the alternate version of Spider-Man, several other characters could appear in the Noir series.
Set in 1930s New York City, fans are about to see a different Spider-Man in Noir. Compared to the usual bright red-and-blue Spider suit, Spider-Noir wears an all-black ensemble to tell a darker tale of the famous Wall Crawler.
But instead of using webs and sticking to the walls, he will be a gun-toting vigilante who prefers to parkour. In the place of supervillains, he will be fighting against corrupt politicians, crooked cops, and gangsters in his hometown of New York City.
So, here are the five characters we could see in Prime Video’s upcoming Spider-Man Noir.

Spider-Man 3 was one of those lesser-liked films out of all the live-action projects made on the friendly neighborhood web-slinger to date. Despite this, one thing that makes the film worth watching is all the candid scenes of Bully Maguire-Parker or the Cool Maguire-Parker. Though fans loved Tobey Maguire’s previous performances as well, none came as close to epic as this one.
Spider-Man 3.
That being said, it has been close to two decades since the release of the movie, and yet, some of the scenes from it are still as iconic as ever. While the Cool Peter Parker dance in the street in that classic black suit was one moment we’ll, perhaps, never forget, there is another scene that could still make you chuckle: “That’s not the position I hired you for!”

When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's approach to the multiverse on the big screen, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is the only movie that realizes the potential of franchise crossovers between the old guard of Marvel movies and the interconnected films of Kevin Feige's Marvel Studios. That's right, not even "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" properly delivered on the promise of a multiverse truly full of madness, opting instead for hollow fan service, even though director Sam Raimi had fun tearing all those alternate Marvel superheroes apart at the hands of the Scarlet Witch. Instead, it was the meeting of Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire as the various big screen Spider-Men that delivered a mostly satisfying spin through the wallcrawlers' weaving webs.

There were tons of cool scenes that were not included in the theatrical versions of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, with J.K. Simmons wearing a Spider-Man suit probably the most notable of all the deleted ones. However, the director decided to include this in the extended cut of Spider-Man 2 (2004) so it’s not completely wasted.

Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker has become the definitive version of the character as it introduced the franchise to the world, but Simmons’ portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson was truly the most unforgettable.

Oscar winner J.K. Simmons made his career on television, appearing in Law & Order and Oz, and while he did play J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy (2002–2007), it wasn’t until Juno (2007) that he became a brand name, later appearing in Burn After Reading (2008), La La Land (2016), Justice League (2017), Being the Ricardos (2021), and other films. But, it was 2014’s Whiplash that earned him his first Oscar and earned him unanimous praise for his portrayal of the sadistic music instructor Terence Fletcher.
But, having said all of this, J.K. Simmons has a new movie coming out on May 17, 2024, an action thriller in which he will play the main role, but which is personal for him on more than one level, but more on that below.

Having played J. Jonah Jameson in Marvel and Commissioner Gordon in DC, J.K. Simmons is no stranger to excelling in the comic book genre. And with Invincible, the Oscar-winner was once again allowed to spread his acting chops in the realm of superheroes, and unlike his live-action Cbm counterparts, Omni-Man was not bound by mortality.
But this isn’t the lone time the actor has voiced Cbm characters in animation, as prior to this series, the Whiplash Star had played two major DC villains in the acclaimed Justice League Unlimited.

There are too many Marvel Comics out there to read them all — and I'm talking about both the current ongoing series, and the 85 years of accumulated material. The publisher is aware of this, so what's its solution to hook new readers?
In 2000, Marvel launched "Ultimate Marvel," a new series of comics set in a separate continuity from the original "Earth-616" comics. The Ultimate Marvel comics followed the classic heroes, from Spider-Man to the Avengers (renamed the Ultimates), getting their powers in a more contemporary-styled setting. These were comics written not to appeal to long-time, continuity-obsessed fans, but to hook the new generation of nerds obsessing over "Buffy" and "The X-Files." That reverberated back and Ultimate Marvel became the primary influence on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After highs and lows, Ultimate Marvel ended in 2015. In 2024, it returned ... sort of. Rather than a continuation of the old Ultimate Universe, Marvel has just...

The world was shocked when Steven Yeun, Mark Hamill, and, several other stars joined hands in voicing the iconic animated series Invincible. Premiering in 2021, the series was the animated equivalent of The Boys and received worldwide acclaim and praise for not holding back.
The character of Steven Yeun, who is Invincible himself, is on the path of discovering his powers. Being a superhero requires a supervillain who could challenge him. Luckily (or unluckily) for Invincible, a supervillain is already on the hunt to kill him. As fate would have it, however, the villain in Invincible also suffers from the same weakness that Marvel’s Venom suffers from!

In Jon Watts' 2019 film "Spider-Man: Far from Home," Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is tempted to cede control of a newly-bequeathed orbital missile network to an alleged interdimensional traveler nicknamed Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). Mysterio mentions that he's a superhero from a parallel timeline and that Earth is only now starting to reach into other dimensions. Mysterio's story will later prove to be a lie, yet the notion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe multiverse was implanted in people's minds (building off its brief mention in "Doctor Strange").
That multiverse idea was then hammered home in the film's epilogue. After the day was saved and Mysterio was defeated, Spider-Man's secret identity was brazenly revealed on international TV by none other than J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons), a character not seen since Sam Raimi's 2007 film "Spider-Man 3." Raimi's films, it should be noted, are in a separate continuity from the MCU "Spider-Man" movies.

Actor J.K. Simmons has played many comic book characters in his career. Apart from being the one true and only iteration of J Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man films, Simmons has also been lauded for his performance as Nolan Grayson a.k.a Omni-Man in the Amazon Prime Video series Invincible.

There is something about the way J. Jonah Jameson presents himself that makes him absolutely iconic. From the cigar to the look that could shakedown even the bravest of superheroes, he has no comparison. And thus, there is no one better to bring him to life other than, J.K. Simmons. After his appearance in the Sam Raimi trilogy was loved by all, his return to the MCU with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was met with even more excitement.

It is already known that fans will definitely get a third Venom movie as actor Tom Hardy stated in August 2018 that he had signed on to star in three Venom films. So far, we have got two movies and both of them had a decent box office run. Although the movie is set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (Ssu), it has been hinted in 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage that the franchise might get integrated with Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a recent interview, industry insider Jeff Sneider revealed his opinion on the film’s title, suspecting that the film’s going to be a “symbiote mayhem.

Sam Raimi’s recent stint with the MCU, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, was a big let-down for the fans. Raimi rose to prominence by directing one of the most popular superhero movies of our time, the original Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire. While his first two films are celebrated widely, the third Spider-Man film is often condemned as the worst film among the web-slinger’s films. The film’s failure could be attributed to the rushed inclusion of multiple villains.

Among the three villains was Topher Grace’s version of Venom, which was absolutely hated by the audience. Interestingly, Raimi had no interest in including Venom in his trilogy. We all know the story of Peter Parker, right? After the death/disappearance of his parents, Peter was raised by his kindly Aunt May and Uncle Ben, who gave him a happy life, despite the constant bullying he endured at school. After a bite from a radioactive spider gave him superpowers, Peter made one selfish choice that cost the life of his Uncle. As a result, Peter has spent the rest of his life as Spider-Man, living up to Uncle Ben’s teaching that with great power comes great responsibility.
At least, that’s how it is in most universes, including the original Ultimate Universe from the comics. But with a revamped Ultimate Universe returning to Marvel Comics, courtesy of writer Jonathan Hickman, Peter has undergone a significant change.

It's not certain when there'll next be a new Spider-Man movie in theaters. 2023 gave us one of the best ones yet with "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse," but the sequel "Beyond The Spider-Verse" doesn't have a concrete release date. Tom Holland's live-action web-slinger is probably returning, but his fourth outing is currently in pre-production.

Only two seasons in and "Invincible" has already assembled quite the voice cast. While it relies primarily on name screen actors for the big parts, the show doesn't neglect to invite professional voice actors to the party either. Even the leads offer performances that are a cut above the celebrity voice-acting you see in, for instance, DreamWorks or Illumination animated movies.
It's an easy bet that one can recognize at least some of the voices on "Invincible." Maybe a viewer knows them from watching plenty of American cartoons and hearing their voices over and over again. Or maybe they know the voices from the on-camera work the cast has done but can't place them.
Whatever the case may be, here is a rundown of the actors who've been bringing these comic book characters to life — and how their work on "Invincible" compares to their previous roles.

It’s been a long wait for Invincible season 2. Ever since father-son duo Nolan and Mark Grayson signed off in a symphony of bloody violence in early 2021, fans have been clamoring for more superheroic action. Now the time has finally come as Invincible season 2 is set to premiere its first episode on Nov. 3 on Prime Video.
While Invincible and Omni-Man naturally take up a lot of the attention for this very good Amazon series, let’s not forget the rest of the expansive cast of characters that make up the world created by comic writer and show producer Robert Kirkman. Like any good superhero saga worth its salt, Invincible has a very deep bench of compelling heroes, villains, aliens, civilians, and more.
The bench is so deep, in fact, that it can be hard to keep track of everyone. With that in mind, here is a helpful refresher on...

Now that season 2 of his Prime Video superhero series has a Nov. 3 release date, Invincible creator Robert Kirkman admits that he’s going to miss all the poking and prodding.
“I’m ready for people to stop yelling at me about (the wait for season 2). But I’m also so appreciative of people ‘yelling’ at me for the last seven years. It’s great to see that people are invested,” he tells Den of Geek during his appearance at our San Diego Comic-Con studio.
Kirkman is mostly joking – it hasn’t actually been seven years since Invincible season 1’s finale premiered in April 2021. But given the explosive conclusion to the first season of the series based on Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley’s beloved 144-issue comic of the same name, fans could be forgiven for feeling like it’s been nearly a decade all the same.

Bad Bunny's superhero turn has been delayed. Back in April 2022, Sony announced that the rapper, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, had been cast in the lead role in Marvel's upcoming film "El Muerto." The movie was originally set to hit theaters in January 2024 and will mark the first time a Latinx actor will headline their own live-action Marvel film.
However, on June 22 Deadline reported that Sony had pulled the film from its release date schedule. That doesn't mean it's not coming eventually, though. The outlet said Bad Bunny's tour schedule and the WGA strike was the cause of the release delay. Popsugar reached out to Sony for confirmation but did not immediately receive a response.
Eventually, Bad Bunny will be taking on the role of a famous wrestler in the Spider-Man universe known as El Muerto, which is Spanish for "the dead one." Sony shared the exciting news at 2022 CinemaCon,...

Sony has added two Marvel movies to the 2024 and 2025 release calendar, the studio announced on Thursday.
The first, an “Untitled Sony/Marvel” will be released on Nov. 8, 2024, and the second, “Untitled Sony/Marvel Live Action” will be released on June 27, 2025.
One of the movies might be Sony Pictures’ “El Muerto” starring Grammy Award-winner and mega recording artist Bad Bunny, also known as Benito A Martínez Ocasio. Additionally, Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (“Blue Beetle”) wrote the script, which was ready to proceed to the casting stage before the writer’s strike happened.

They say that two heads are better than one, but when it comes to 2024’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse sequel, it could be a case of six heads are better than one. A wild theory has emerged that the infamous Sinister Six will be the big bads of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and if you were watching Across the Spider-Verse closely, the lineup could’ve been hiding in plain sight.
Across the Spider-Verse cast Jason Schwartzman’s Spot as the main villain, but alongside a smorgasbord of Spider-People, you might’ve spotted Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, Donald Glover’s live-action debut as Prowler, and more obscure foes like Mooseterio from Earth-8311. Away from equally ominous theories that Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) will emerge as a vampiric villain in Beyond the Spider-Verse, the Sinister Six get an actual nod in the movie’s jaw-dropping finale.

This weekend, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse had an amazing opening. The first film was a great buffet of Spider-Man references and easter eggs. With Miles Morales returning to the big screen, we knew there had to be many more references. This one does not disappoint, as just about every frame of the film is crammed full of some eye candy. While we’re a little sad that some of our favorite characters from the first film didn’t make the return trip for the sequel, there are a ton of new characters to get excited about. What kind of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse easter eggs did we find?
WArning!!!!! There will be spoilers for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse!

They actually did it: Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, co-writers of both the "Spider-Verse" franchise and "The Lego Movie," finally found a way to combine their two most beloved worlds in "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." The new movie is jam-packed with so many Easter eggs, universe jumps, and eye-popping artistic flourishes that it's easy to come away feeling like you'll need to watch it again to catch everything. Still, one world, in particular, is hard to forget -- because it's made out of Legos.
The scene comes fairly early in the film when Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) first finds out about the league of Spider-People working together to save the universe without him. Quick scenes show Spider-Men across the multiverse placing calls to group leader Miguel (Oscar Isaac). Among them? Lego Peter Parker (voiced by comedian Nic Novicki), who's in the...

Spider-Man has almost as long a history in animation as he does in the comic pages where he originated. That's why the "Spider-Verse" films' conceit — placing different Spider-People together and representing them with different styles of animation — is so clever. While the original "Into the Spider-Verse" featured only six Spider-People teaming up, the sequel "Across the Spider-Verse" takes things into overdrive with hundreds of them. This fulfills the promise of a Spider-Verse.
Most of these Spider-People are simple cameos or easter eggs -- they're all going about their day in Miguel O'Hara's (Oscar Isaac) citadel on Earth-928 and the film rarely lingers on them. However, knowledgeable Spider-Fans will spot some stars among the crowd. "Across the Spider-Verse" treats all Spider-Man audiovisual media as part of one big web. Technically, the congregation of Spider-Men outside the pages of comics happened in the 90s animated series, but in 2018, when Sony released Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it presented the scope of the multiverse to a larger fanbase, which eventually culminated in the fulfillment of the dream of seeing three live-action Spider-Men of our generation together in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Needless to say, when the second installment of the movie was announced, fans had pretty high expectations, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse didn’t disappoint a bit. If the first entry had shown a glimpse of the Spider-Verse to the audience, the second one opened a vista to the interconnected universe, displaying all the spider-madness it had to offer. Scattered among innumerable Spider-Character appearances, teases, references, and homages, there were plenty of Easter eggs in Across the Spider-verse, and although it’s not humanely possible to list every one of them,...

After nearly five years of waiting, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is finally in theaters. The story was simply too big to be contained in a single film, though, so audiences have much more to look forward to as this is just the first part of a two-part story that was cooked up by producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, alongside co-writer Dave Callaham. This means we now await the release of "Beyond the Spider-Verse" next year. Not only will that movie resolve the big cliffhanger we were left with this time around, but it will seemingly bring one of the most notorious supervillain groups to the big screen for the first time. That's right! It looks like we're finally getting the Sinister Six.

The new animated film "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is going to aggravate hunters of Easter eggs. The sheer overwhelming volume of Spider-Man references, callbacks, and cameos will cause even the most stalwart, deep-cut Marvel Comics fan to go a little cross-eyed. There is a hilarious moment when Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) arrives at an interdimensional Spider-Man headquarters, populated entirely by thousands of Spider-People from other dimensions, and the camera pans over a crowd of them, introducing each with a miniature on-screen chyron. In the span of about four seconds, about a hundred chyrons speed past the audience's eyes. Sorry, Easter egg hunters. We're deliberately giving you more information than your brain can process.
Throughout the hundreds of Spider-Cameos, however, there is going to be one most people might recognize. As the various Spider-People speed through various dimensions, one might catch a glimpse of background TV screens and news broadcasts, depicting...

It’s no secret that a certain wall-crawling hero was Stan Lee’s favorite Marvel creation, with the comic book legend having so much of a soft spot for Spider-Man that he modeled J. Jonah Jameson on a grumpier version of himself. Still, despite Spider-Man’s introduction in 1962, he didn’t get the Hollywood treatment until Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 40 years later in 2002.
And in the years before and after Tobey Maguire first swung across the New York City skyline, there’s been a galaxy of stars who’ve nearly donned the red and blue suit. So from those who’ve gone on to lead billion-dollar franchises of their own to others who’ve landed other roles in the Spider-Verse, here are 10 actors who nearly played Spider-Man.
Heath Ledger
The search for Tinsel Town’s Spider-Man went through several iterations, but when Raimi eventually took the reins, Tobey Maguire wasn’t his first choice.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe really gives us a novelty that took forever for comic book movies to fully embrace. The idea of superhero properties crossing over and building to a much wider world is something that’s in the DNA of the source material. Outside of the Lou Ferrigno Hulk rubbing elbows with half-realized versions of Thor and Daredevil, it’s something that we never truly got to see until Nick Fury stopped by Tony Stark’s house after the Iron Man credits. Before that, the closest thing we had was J. Jonah Jameson referencing the existence of Doctor Strange. Even their rivals at DC Comics couldn’t give us more than a Superman reference in Batman and Robin or a Batman and Robin reference in Steel.
But we did have some close calls over the decades. Some closer than others. Movies and sequels that would have brought together various...

Genndy Tartakovsky is one of the most exciting storytellers in animation who’s responsible for totemic titles like Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and Primal. Tartakovsky has a passion and respect for animation that’s palpable in his creations. Unicorn: Warriors Eternal is Tartakovsky at his most unleashed and it’s like he’s directed an animated version of Eternals or The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, with a hint of Tintin and 1930s Disney thrown in for good measure. Everyone always wants to know who the Man With No Eyes is on "Yellowjackets" ... but does anyone ever ask how the Man With No Eyes is on "Yellowjackets"?
In all seriousness, the visually-challenged specter remains one of the biggest mysteries of Showtime's captivating horror/thriller puzzle box series part-way through its second season. Is he merely the psychological manifestation of Taissa's childhood trauma from her grandmother claiming she could see a being with no eyes shortly before her death? This was also the first time Taissa glimpsed him, although we've no idea if her grandmother saw the same individual or someone else. He's continued to haunt Taissa in season 2's '90s flashbacks, seemingly guiding her to trees with that mysterious symbol carved into them. But does he actually exist outside of Taissa's imagination? And if so, what is he ultimately after?

The new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has arrived and to quote a certain webbed pigilante, “It Can get weirder!” The previous movie gave us seven different Spider-folk with two more popping up in the post-credits. While we know that this sequel will include a take on Jessica Drew Spider-Woman, Spider-Punk, and even the Spider-Man of the 1970s Japanese TV series, the new trailer bombards us with dozens upon dozens of Spider-Men.
Some of them are just random color schemes and designs. Others are deep cuts to the Marvel multiverse or at least appear to be obscure references to either Spider-Man variants or phases. Here are some that we noticed.

The producers of 2003’s Willard chose to nix “remake” from the film’s marketing vocabulary, but 2003’s Willard adaptation is irrefutably a remake of 1971’s furry social outcast chiller. At the forefront of 2000s remake trends, Glen Morgan‘s Willard features altered themes and a deeper thirst for suspense, going the “darker and grittier” route displayed by subsequent studio remakes (including Morgan’s 2006 Black Christmas slasher). Stephen Gilbert’s novel Ratman’s Notebooks inspires both pictures, although neither dare touch the subplot about “Ratman Robberies” — the narrator steals money from shopkeepers and neighbors before the whole workplace murder climax. Where’s my movie about a criminal aided by rat accomplices? Rat King in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will do, I guess.
It’s daffy to think that 2003’s Willard was hidden as a remake when you watch them back-to-back, but the general moviegoer wouldn’t know any different. That’s...

One of the most talked-about unmade superhero movies of all time is Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 4." Raimi planned to reunite with Tobey Maguire for one last ride to see Peter Parker off in style following the disappointment that was 2007's "Spider-Man 3." Unfortunately, disagreements with Sony ultimately led Raimi to depart the project, paving the way for "The Amazing Spider-Man" reboot starring Andrew Garfield soon after. But what exactly did we miss out on? We have gained a tiny bit of insight into what could have been.
I recently spoke with storyboard artist Jeff Henderson, who worked on "Spider-Man 4" before it was scrapped. During our conversation, he revealed that yes, Vulture would have been part of the film, as has been revealed in the past. Step aside Peter Parker, Sony’s live-action spider-verse is finally introducing another web-slinger. The superhero Silk a.k.a Cindy Moon is set to have her own series on Prime Video and the Amazon-owned MGM+ (formerly Epix) thanks to Sony’s multi-year television deal with the company, and I have to say it’s about damn time.
Cindy Moon is a relatively new character in Marvel comics, debuting in Issue #1 of the 2014 run of The Amazing Spider-Man. Her origin is intertwined with Peter Parker’s as the radioactive spider that bites Peter also bites Cindy before it dies. However, Cindy’s journey after her spider bite is kind of a weird one that includes secret bunkers and multiversal vampires that only feed on Spider-beings.
Without getting too deep into the spider-verse lore, Cindy, Peter, and other Spider-beings across the multiverse that are referred to as “totems” have a unique life-force...

Despite the fact that the "Venom" franchise is set in its own standalone universe, the natural inclination since the first film has been to expect a meet-up with his arch-nemesis, Spider-Man. "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" looked to hold up their end of the promise with an exciting mid-credits scene that shook up the superhero genre in a big way. Suddenly, Tom Hardy's Venom found himself in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and learning about the existence of Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland. Though it proved to be a brief stint in the MCU, the scene confirmed a crossover was not only possible, but likely at this point. However, it turns out the original plans included bringing him into the "Venom" sequel in more than just a cameo.
In the mid-credit scene of "Venom: Let There Be Carnage," Eddie Brock was zapped into the MCU after becoming a fugitive in his universe.

Sony Pictures has confirmed the new Marvel Studios "Spider-Man" spin-off movie "El Muerto! (The Aztec Zombie”) will be directed by Jonás Cuarón, starring Grammy winner Bad Bunny as the superpowered wrestler ‘Luchador Juan Carlos Sanchez', set for release January 12, 2024:
"... the powers of the super powered wrestler 'el Muerto' have been passed down generation to generation. Each wrestler had to prove themselves to their oppressor, 'el Dorado', so that they could remain alive and keep their powers. When 'Marcus Estrada' presented his son 'Juan Carlo's to 'el Dorado', Juan Carlos cowered in terror, unwilling to fight him. Marcus Estrada sacrificed his life to try and save Juan Carlos.
"Out of respect for his father's courage, el Dorado granted Juan Carlos ten years to travel and to become brave, and then to duel a masked wrestler and unmask him. Ten years later, el...

Jonás Cuarón (“Desierto”) is on board to direct Sony Pictures’ “El Muerto” starring Grammy Award-winner and mega recording artist Bad Bunny, also known as Benito A Martínez Ocasio, TheWrap has exclusively learned. Additionally, Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (“Blue Beetle”) is writing the script, which is in early development.
“El Muerto” is the first Latino character to lead a Marvel film, and the antihero character is also known as Juan Carlos Estrada Sanchez, the son of a luchador who finds himself next in line to inherit the ancestral power of “El Muerto,” which is the powers and a mask worn by a super-powered wrestler.
The character appeared in a Spider-Man comic in which the luchador wrestler attended a charity event organized by J. Jonah Jameson in which he hoped that El Muerto would defeat Spider-Man and unmask him in the ring.

At the D23 Expo, we heard a lot of information about Marvel movies and TV shows. Among stuff like Werewolf by Night and Thunderbolts, there was also talk about a massive event where King Thanos (from a world where he was victorious) would face heroes from all over the multiverse. If this is your first time hearing about this and you’re wondering why there hasn’t been more media emphasis on such a story, the reason is because it isn’t a Marvel movie or TV show, but a ride taking place in Disneyland sometime in the next couple years.
It’s something Disneyland’s Avengers Campus has been in desperate need for: a third ride. While details are scarce on the King Thanos attraction, even what its official name will be, it acts as a new chapter in the bizarre history of Marvel theme parks. Much like their complicated movie rights,...

(Welcome to The Daily Stream, an ongoing series in which the /Film team shares what they've been watching, why it's worth checking out, and where you can stream it.)
The Movie: "Pom Poko"
Where You Can Stream It: HBO Max
The Pitch: A tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog) tribe wages war on human interlopers in Tokyo's suburbs in this Studio Ghibli animated film from the late Isao Takahata.
"Pom Poko" is as much a war movie — with casualties on both sides — as "War for the Planet of the Apes" is, except it passes the Six Laugh Test as a comedy and centers on shapeshifting raccoon dogs with occasional parachute scrotums. If that sounds like a recipe for something special, it is.
The thing I love about "Pom Poko," what keeps it tied with "Spirited Away" as my current favorite Ghibli film, is that it starts out like a quaint oral history,...

Among the running gags of Disney+’s new Marvel series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law is that its title character — a.k.a. Jennifer Walters, cousin to Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, who becomes big and green after their blood accidentally intermingles in a car accident — hates her own nickname.
“It’s so dumb!” she complains. “I can’t even exist without being a derivative of the Hulk.”
The comic-book version of She-Hulk has rarely had to worry about this. Despite the green skin and superstrength, she has occupied a relatively unique space within the Marvel universe.
