With the 2024 Tony Awards a few weeks away and the record-breaking Broadway run of “Merrily We Roll Along” coming to a close in a little over a month, three-time Tony nominee Jonathan Groff is looking back on the roles that shaped this first stage in his career. In an interview in The New Yorker, Groff recalled the impact performing in the visually-stunning and narratively-meta film “The Matrix Resurrections” had on his psyche.
“Getting to play Agent Smith really unlocked rage inside of me that I didn’t know was there,” Groff said. “That’s helped me so much with ‘Merrily,’ particularly in the first act. Learning the kung fu was, like, months of fight training. They called me the Savage, because I was so into it. We were shooting a big fight sequence with Keanu, and, after the first few takes, I remember Lana [Wachowski] at the monitor, like, ‘Jonathan, come over here.

“Doctor Who” is embracing its theatrical side. Jonathan Groff, the award-winning actor known for his work in “Spring Awakening” and “Hamilton,” has joined the BBC juggernaut in what has been described as a key role.
Little is known about Groff’s upcoming role, but the actor has released a statement about joining this cast. “I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T. Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role!” Groff told the BBC.
“This is an incredible coup, and a great honour, to get such a huge star striding on to our set. So strap on your space boots, this is going to be a blast!” showrunner Russell T. Davies added.
The last time we saw “Doctor Who,” the sci-fi series delivered a major shock. Fans knew that BAFTA-nominated star of Netflix’s “Sex Education” Ncuti Gatwa would be portraying the new doctor.

The return of showrunner Russell T Davies to “Doctor Who” is already living up to expectations, and it hasn’t even started airing yet. It was recently announced that the show would be adding stage and screen actor Jonathan Groff. BBC said in a statement, “He’s on his way to jump aboard the Tardis in a mysterious and exciting guest role.” Who do you think he’ll be playing when he joins the adventure?
Groff is known for his Tony-nominated roles in the Broadway musicals “Spring Awakening” and “Hamilton,” the latter of which also won him a Grammy for its cast recording and earned him an Emmy nom for its Disney+ recorded version. He also had a noteworthy recurring role in “Glee,” voiced Kristoff in the “Frozen” movies, and played the lead role in a couple of underappreciated shows that ran two seasons apiece: Andrew Haigh and Michael Lannan...

Jonathan Groff is the latest cast member announced to be joining Doctor Who series 14 in an as-yet undisclosed mysterious “key role”, the BBC has announced.
Groff is best known to children the world over as the voice of Kristoff in Disney’s Frozen films, and to Broadway audiences as King George III from the original cast of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s mega-hit musical Hamilton.
That makes him the third big American Broadway star making his debut in the new Doctor Who episodes, following Neil Patrick Harris’ villainous role in the forthcoming 60th anniversary specials, and the recent announcement that Chicago the stage musical and RuPaul’s Drag Race star Jinkx Monsoon had joined the cast of series fourteen.
Could that much-discussed all-singing, all-dancing episode finally be on the way? The official press release accompanying the casting announcement doesn’t exactly quash the rumours with its choice of headline: “Doctor Who Hits Another...
