The iconic $1.8B Top Gun franchise, starring Tom Cruise as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, has captivated audiences worldwide, with a story related to the U.S. Navy’s training program. However, in a surprising move, the real-life US Navy has prohibited Topgun pilots from mentioning the franchise, and the reason is quite intriguing.

The recent films released by Marvel Studios have suffered a great amount of disappointment due to their box-office failure and negative critical reviews. It seems the trend in the franchise went on the downhill path after 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame
There’s no denying that Endgame was the culmination of the stories that fans loved for eleven years. The franchise that started with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and ended with his sacrifice emerged as the second-highest-grossing movie of all time. How can any of the new Marvel films beat that?

Zendaya is getting candid about the conversations surrounding her kissing scenes in films and television series.
The Emmy-winning actress chatted with Jake Hamilton, the creator behind YouTube account Jake’s Takes, while promoting Challengers. She sat down with her co-stars, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor, for a brief conversation ahead of the release of Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film.
At one point in the interview, Hamilton pointed out to Zendaya that when she does a kissing scene, it seems to get an “abnormal” amount of attention, and she agreed, noting, “I know, it’s very odd.” He went on to ask her if she thinks people have forgotten that’s part of an actor’s job, or if they’re simply using it as a way to get her to talk about kissing.

Zendaya said in a recent interview on “Jake’s Takes” while promoting her new tennis drama “Challengers” that “it’s very odd” to always be asked about what it’s like kissing her male co-stars on screen. The actor has noticed in recent years that she gets asked in interviews about kissing scenes far more than her co-stars get asked.

Over 15 years since Peter Jackson transported moviegoers to cinematic Middle Earth glory with the triumphant Lord of the Rings trilogy, Denis Villeneuve’s sprawling Dune saga aims to recapture that meticulous world-building spirit and sense of grand fantasy awe. Early reactions indicate March’s Dune: Part Two may achieve just that with the visionary director’s operatic, star-powered sequel earning near-universal raves on par with Jackson’s signature Hobbit highs.

After a three year gap between films and a strike-induced delay that prevented it from making its planned fall 2023 release date, the wait for “Dune: Part Two” is almost over. It appears to be worth the wait.
Denis Villeneuve’s epic sequel, which concludes his take on Frank Herbert’s original “Dune” novel, is set to hit theaters on Friday, March 1. While full reviews have yet to be published, many critics have taken to social media to share their overwhelmingly positive responses to the film following its world premiere on Thursday night.
Some called it a “masterpiece” and even better than the first film, while others compared it to the action seen in epics like Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.” Though as you’ll see below, the praise wasn’t completely universal.

"Pearl" star Mia Goth has some thoughts on why the Academy Awards often fail to recognize standout performances in horror films. "I think that it's very political," she told Jake Hamilton (via Twitter). "I think that it's not entirely based on the quality of a project, per se." Like many horror fans, Goth wants that to change.
Horror fans love the actors who star in such films, often becoming quite devoted to them. It's not just the ones who deserve awards, either. To understand just how important all horror film performances are, one need only take a look at the talent lineup for any given horror convention. Many people are just as happy to meet someone who was killed third in a random "Friday the 13th" sequel as they are to talk to special effects artists and directors.
Sometimes, though, actors in horror films get swapped out for various reasons.

Sometimes an actor just knows that their next movie is a stinker. Worse, they know it when they’re in production but are contractually obligated to finish the job. This is just what happened to Matt Damon while making a recent big-budget movie. While Damon didn’t reveal the title, it sounds like he’s talking about The Great Wall, a critical and domestic dud that stands as one of the worst-reviewed movies of his entire career.
Speaking with Jake Hamilton on Jake’s Takes (via Variety), Matt Damon revealed — as much as he would, anyway — that he had the unfortunate and depressing feeling of being locked into a movie he had no choice but to see through to fruition. “Without naming any particular movies…sometimes you find yourself in a movie that you know, perhaps, might not be what you had hoped it would be, and you’re still making it…...

The first public screenings of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” were held Wednesday night, which means we’re now also seeing the first public reactions to the film.
And in case you had any doubts, praise for the animated film, the first sequel to 2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” is effusive. Just shy, in fact, of universally acclaimed by the people who saw it.

Reel Blend co-host Jame Hamilton says it’s “darker, more powerful and better in every way” than its predecessor.
TheWrap’s Drew Taylor calls it “a stunning achievement”. Yes, it’s” that is “visually dazzling,” but adds that “the movie’s real superpower is its emotional depth and its beautiful, melancholic tone.”

Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve’s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, which has a release date of November 3, 2023 – and when fans have the chance to see the movie, cast member Rebecca Ferguson says they’ll be seeing a film that’s even better than its predecessor.
Ferguson gave her opinion on Dune: Part Two during an interview on Jake’s Takes, even though she hasn’t actually seen the movie herself yet. Interviewer Jake Hamilton listed Villeneuve’s first Dune as his #1 film of 2021, and asked Ferguson to tell him that the follow-up is awesome. She did just that, saying, “I’m gonna say, Part Two is better than Part One. And that’s me without seeing it, that is me saying it based on what I’ve read, what I’ve seen, what I’ve filmed. I think it’s gonna be better.

Mia Goth thinks the Academy should give horror films a chance.
The actress, who starred in the 2022 film “Pearl”, which didn’t receive any noms at the 2023 Oscars, has been promoting her latest scary flick, “Infinity Pool”, alongside Alexander Skarsgård.

Mia Goth has weighed in on the debate about the Oscars not giving horror films serious consideration when deciding nominees.
The actor is one of the leading stars in Pearl, a prequel film to X, a slasher flick about the cast and crew of an adult film trying to evade murder by their elderly hosts.
Considered an homage to 1970s horror cinema, Pearl has received high praise from critics and audiences.
However, the Ti West-directed picture was shut out of the Academy Awards conversation when the nominees were announced earlier this week.
Entertainment journalist Jake Hamilton addressed this during an interview with Goth and Alexander Skarsgård, who both star in the forthcoming film Infinity Pool.
After saying that Goth’s performance in Pearl was deserving of an Academy Award nomination, Hamilton asked her thoughts on why horror “masterpieces” have been largely under-rewarded over the years.

Mia Goth wants the Oscars to go, well, more goth.
Just days after she spoke about what it means to be a scream queen at the IndieWire Studio at Sundance, the star of “Infinity Pool” and “Pearl” addressed the lack of horror film recognition by the Academy, particularly in the performance categories.
“I think that it’s very political and that it’s not entirely based on the quality of a project per se,” Goth told reporter Jake Hamilton (see below) of the lack of genre diversity among the nominees. “I think there’s a lot going on there, a lot of cooks in the kitchen when it comes to nominations and categories that are recognized. Maybe I shouldn’t say that either but I think that’s true. I think a lot of people know that. I don’t know why.”
Goth continued, “I think a change is necessary.

Another round of Oscar nominations arrived this week and proved once again the Academy’s ignorance when it comes to horror. Jordan Peele’s “Nope” was completely shut out of the nominations despite critical acclaim and over 100 million at the box office. Ti West’s “X” and “Pearl” were also missing. The latter title is home to a performance by Mia Goth that earned some of the best reviews of 2022, and yet the Academy’s resistance to the horror genre meant Goth was never a serious contender.
“I think that it’s very political,” Goth recently told “Jake’s Takes” when asked about her “Pearl” Oscar snub and the Academy’s continual rejection of horror. “It’s not entirely based on the quality of a project per se. James Cameron brought a select group of lucky junketeers, critics, and awards pundits in major cities back to Pandora on Tuesday, for the first screenings of “Avatar: The Way of Water.” But many of the invitees were absolutely wowed by the propulsive filmmaking, high-tech special effects, and even the emotional reach of the film.
Let’s turn now to Twitter, where this reporter witnessed one New York-based wag posting his opinion as he relieved himself in the men’s room after the three-plus hour extravaganza.
“New York” Magazine’s Bilge Ebiri was caught up by the picture hook, line, and sinker.
Avatar: The Way Of Water might be James Cameron’s sweetest, gentlest, most personal film. Possibly even his most emotional. It revisits all his greatest hits, but it’s always totally sincere. He is never leaving Pandora. He loves this family. By the end, I did, too.

It's been 13 years, but the second installment of the "little" franchise that could, "Avatar," is finally coming to the big screen. "Avatar: The Way of Water" already looked like a stunning adventure, and its extensive filming process looked like an absolute blast. People online can argue about whether or not the first film has any cultural relevancy all they want, but one thing is clear — good ol' James Cameron and the awe-inspiring world of Pandora are here to stay, whether the public wants them or not.
Thankfully, it sounds like the public will absolutely want to continue exploring Pandora and all of its worlds. The first press screenings for "The Way of Water" have finished, which means we have started to get the first immediate reactions to the long-awaited film. If you've been praying to Eywa that the sequel will be a visual spectacle full of heart and thrills, then your prayers have been answered.

David Bruckner has made quite a name for himself as the director of "The Night House," "The Ritual," and segments for "Southbound," "V/H/S/," and "The Signal." He's been cited as one of the most exciting voices in the genre, but all of that good faith is no match for the expectations set when tackling a legacy franchise. Clive Barker's "Hellraiser" series is a firm constituent of the Mount Rushmore of horror franchises, despite a majority of the 10 existing installments having less-than-stellar reputations. Making a movie in general is an extremely stressful experience, but it's a wonder that anyone helming a movie connected to a sacred horror property makes it out alive with that kind of pressure hanging over their heads like a rain cloud filled with angry tweets and metaphorical rotten tomatoes.
Fortunately, given the rocky history of the "Hellraiser" franchise, the general consensus is that people want Bruckner to succeed.

David Bruckner's feature adaptation of Clive Barker's 1986 novella "The Hellbound Heart" brings forth a new Pinhead, the leatherbound nail-studded horror icon formerly popularized by Doug Bradley. Written by "The Night House" scribes Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski from a story developed with David S. Goyer, "Hellraiser" stays true to themes raised in Barker's original 1987 adaptation while offering a new iteration of the soul-harvesting Pinhead, played by Jamie Clayton.
Clayton struck friendships on and off the set, often hanging out with co-star Aoife Hinds, previously known for her role on BBC Three/Hulu drama miniseries "Normal People." In "Hellraiser" Hinds is one of several loved ones in the crosshairs of the Cenobites due to her proximity to Riley, who fiddles with the shiny death box and wreaks havoc on everyone. In "Hellraiser" Hinds is one of several loved ones in the crosshairs of the Cenobites due to her proximity to Riley, who fiddles with the shiny death box and wreaks havoc on everyone. When she meets Clayton's Priest, it's as pleasant as a meeting with Pinhead can go; still, Clayton had difficulty...

The first reactions to 20th Century Studios’ “West Side Story” are beginning to pour in following the film’s premiere in New York City on Monday evening. Those who attended the screening took to social media, voicing praise for director Steven Spielberg’s reimagining of the classic musical.
In this new version, Rachel Zegler and Ansel Elgort portray Maria and Tony, whose ill-fated romance flags the fires of the bitter rivalry between local street gangs the Sharks and the Jets. The cast also includes Ariana DeBose as Anita, David Alvarez as Bernardo and Mike Faist as Riff. Rita Moreno, who won an Oscar for her performance as Anita in the 1961 film adaptation of the musical, appears in the remake in a new role and served as an executive producer. The remake was written by Tony Kushner (“Angels in America”) and marks Spielberg’s first feature length musical.

In an interview with Jake Hamilton, renowned actor Halle Berry stated that she would love to direct "Catwoman." For context, Berry was discussing her directorial debut "Bruised" with Hamilton and how her own portrayal of Catwoman back in 2004 was a complete flop. We're talking 9% on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 3.1 out of 10 kind of flop. Directed by Jean-Christophe "Pitof" Comar, the film won several Raspberry Awards including Worst Picture, Worst Actress, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay. It was also featured on Roger Ebert's list of most hated films. However, Halle's turn at donning a black leather costume and cat mask led to...

Fresh off her directorial debut on Netflix’s upcoming mixed martial arts drama, Bruised, Halle Berry is ready for her next bout. The Oscar-winning actress also stars in the film, but she is not undefeated in her onscreen record, and she wants a rematch. Berry wishes she could not only remake Catwoman, but reimagine it in a subversive turnaround. Catwoman would come out on top.
“I would love to direct Catwoman,” Berry told Jake Hamilton on Jake’s Takes. “If I can get a hold of that now, knowing what I know, having had this experience and reimagine that world the way I reimagined this story. Bruised was written for a white, Irish Catholic like 25-year-old girl, and I got to reimagine it. I wish I could go back and reimagine Catwoman and redo that, have a redo on that.”
While it has amassed an avid cult following, Catwoman was...

With the comic-book multiverse being the rage all these days, could Hugh Jackman possibly return as fan favorite Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Not if you ask Jackman, who shot down any possibility of a return to the role he last played in 2017’s “Logan.”
“That fact that I’m hearing about this from you, and there’s nothing in my inbox from Kevin Feige means it’s probably, no matter what idea I came up with, not on the table,” Jackman told YouTuber Jake Hamilton in an interview posted Monday about speculation of his possible return to the hirsute hero.
“Let’s just be clear there, but now, I realized, before we shot ‘Logan,’ I was like, we got the idea. We knew what it was going to be-ish, right?” Jackson continued. “And I thought this is it. And that really helped me, it really helped knowing I...

Though the name of the game in blockbuster movie-making is consolidation and crossovers, there are still two universes that seem unlikely to ever combine.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe resides at Disney while DC Entertainment has its home at Warner Bros. Both franchises make bucketloads of money for their respective corporate overlords so there is little incentive for Disney and WB to combine forces and share the wealth. But in the spirit of Marvel’s latest Disney+ series: What if…there was a filmmaker, nay a hero, strong enough to make such a crossover happen?
James Gunn is one of the few creatives to have made a home in both Marvel and DC’s sandboxes. The writer-director scored his first major hit with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (followed up by Vol. 2 and the upcoming Vol. 3) and is now working with DC on their latest supervillain team-up effort The Suicide Squad.
