According to Telegraph.co.uk, Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean) has won the role of Eliza Doolittle in a new film adaptation of “My Fair Lady.”

Scarlett Johansson was also up for the lead role, but the site reported that Joe Wright has come on to direct, and it seems that Wright has gone with Knightley, who he directed in “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement” to star.

Academy Award-winner Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility) is writing the screenplay. Daniel Craig is also being mentioned as a possibility to play Professor Henry Higgins.

Knightley, the 24-year-old actress, last starred in “The Duchess” and has a few new upcoming roles, including in William Monahan’s “London Boulevard.”

‘Edge of Darkness’ Trailer Features The Welcome Return Of Crazy Mel Gibson

15 October 2009 2:30 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

I'm a fan of Mel Gibson, the actor, and I'm not ashamed of it.  I don't care about his off-screen antics and issues. I only care about his work on screen, and I don't see how anyone can honestly argue that the man's not a damn good actor in both dramatic and comedic roles. They can try, but they will fail. It's been five years since he's appeared on the big screen (Paparazzi) and seven since he's been in the lead role (Signs), but 2010 looks to be the year that finally changes. Due later next year is The Beaver where he co-stars with Jodie Foster as a man who can only communicate via a beaver puppet her wears on his hand. There's no way that will be anything less than awesome. Before that though Gibson will be hitting screens this January in Edge of Darkness as a father enraged over his daughter's murder. The »

Edge of Darkness Trailer and Poster

15 October 2009 1:01 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Warner Bros has released the theatrical trailer for Edge of Darkness, another Boston-based thriller from screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed).  Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, the upcoming Green Lantern) directed Mel Gibson in his return to acting after a seven year hiatus. The film is an adaptation of the 1985 UK miniseries by the same name.

Robert De Niro was originally supposed to playing a supporting role, but backed out as shooting started. He was replaced by Ray Winstone.

Here’s a rough synopsis:

As homicide detective Thomas Craven (Gibson) investigates the death of his activist daughter, he uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence.

Check out Mel Gibson trying on a Boston accent in the trailer below:

Edge of Darkness will be released January 29, 2010. That’s almost the same day a year after Taken’s sleeper success. »

New Trailer With Mel Gibson On The ‘Edge of Darkness’

15 October 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Its been some time since I was interested in a movie featuring Mel Gibson. In the past, his work in movies like Mad Max, We Were Soldiers, Payback, Braveheart and the Lethal Weapon franchise showed that he knows how to play someone on the edge who does what’s necessary to get the job done. Plus, those characters weren’t afraid to kick some ass. Now, as seen in this new trailer for Edge of Darkness, it seems Gibson is returning to the kind of role that made me a fan of his in the first place.

In this new film, written by William Monahan and directed by Martin Campbell, Gibson plays a Boston detective whose daughter is killed when a hit targeted at him goes wrong. Of course, he’s not going to let that one go so he starts his own investigation to determine what happened. Once he »

Edge of Darkness Trailer Creeps Into the Light

It may be that 2010 is the year Mel Gibson returns to the limelight — 8 years after his last on-screen role and following tabloid mania that has shifted his image in drastically negative ways. He’s got two big projects on the way. The first is Jodie Foster’s The Beaver, and the second is Edge of Darkness from director Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale).

A remake of Campbell’s own 1985 U.K. miniseries, the film features Gibson, Ray Winstone and Danny Huston in a script by William Monahan and Andrew Bovell. Check out the trailer below for a great glimpse of what we’re in store for. Edge of Darkness is slated for release on January 29, 2010.

14 October 2009 10:46 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The first trailer for the Mel Gibson action/drama Edge of Darkness is out and it looks good. Edge of Darkness features Gibson as a Boston detective who uncovers a conspiracy while investigating the death of his activist daughter. The film was written by William Monahan (The Departed) and was directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale).

(Fun fact: The part played by Ray Winstone was originally supposed to be played by Robert De Niro who dropped out of the film in its early stages.)

Check out the trailer and a poster for the film below:

In recent years, it seems Mel Gibson’s personal life has clouded his considerable talents as an actor and director. Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that, even at the age of 53, Gibson is one of Hollywood’s most credible action stars. I am looking forward to seeing him back on the »

Mel Gibson Takes Us to the 'Edge of Darkness' in New Trailer

14 October 2009 7:16 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Counting out Signs and We Were Soldiers, it's been nearly a decade since Mel Gibson's knocked some skulls (if you're willing to factor in 2000's The Patriot; if not, then exactly a decade since 1999's Payback), and in the trailer for Edge of Darkness -- embedded post-jump -- it looks like old habits die hard.

Gibson plays a Boston detective whose daughter is killed in a hit meant for him. Naturally, he starts knocking on doors and following trails to determine if his daughter had actually been the target all along, and why. Writer William Monahan is no stranger to either Beantown (The Departed) or elaborate conspiracies (Body of Lies), and director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) already made a BBC miniseries out of the material back in 1985. (No wonder it was reminding me of State of Play, title similarities aside.)

I wasn't sure then why a film with such »

First Trailer and Poster for Mel Gibson’s Edge Of Darkness - Written by William Monahan and Directed by Martin Campbell

14 October 2009 5:09 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Director Martin Campbell’s (”Casino Royale”) “Edge of Darkness” has finally got a trailer and if you’re a fan of Mel Gibson kicking ass, I’m pretty sure you’re going to like this movie. The other reason this film should be on your radar is William Monahan (”The Departed”) wrote the screenplay and the film takes place in Boston. The last time Monahan wrote a Boston based movie, I think we can all agree it turned out well.

The premise of “Edge of Darkness” is Mel Gibson plays a detective and after the sudden death of his activist daughter, he tries to find out why she was killed. He uncovers more than he bargained for. The film also stars Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic, and Shawn Roberts. Watch the trailer after the jump. Be warned: Mel is trying to pull off a Boston accent. I think it works. »

Eddie Marsan and Martin Compston Exclusive Video Interview The Disappearance Of Alice Creed

4 October 2009 2:14 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

A movie I really enjoyed at this year’s Toronto Film Festival was “The Disappearance of Alice Creed”. The film was written and directed by J Blakeson and it’s his first time behind the camera. Since a lot of this film rides on you not knowing too much about it, all I’m going to tell you is…it’s about two people kidnapping a third person and what happens before, during, and after the event. The movie stars Martin Compston and Eddie Marsan as the kidnapers and Gemma Arterton plays the victim.

Anyway, while at this year’s Festival, I was able to interview the two stars - Martin Compston and Eddie Marsan. So after the jump you can see them talk about making the movie, explain how difficult it is to talk about the film without giving things away, they both talk about what they have coming up, »

The film is described as a dark comedy, written by Kyle Killen, centering on a depressed man who finds solace in wearing a beaver hand-puppet. In addition to helming, Foster will play the role of the man's wife. Foster last directed Home for the Holidays in 1995, a romantic dramedy starring Holly Hunter and Robert Downey Jr. among several others, The Beaver would be her first time in the director's chair since. Mel Gibson is getting back on track after starring in Martin Campbell's Edge of Darkness for Warner Bros. which will hit theaters on January 29, 2010. Stephen Graham Walks The Boulevard

15 July 2009 12:56 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Crime pays... at least it does if you're Stephen Graham, who's played his fair share of movie villains but is crossing to the right side of the law to play a detective in William Monahan's noir thriller London Boulevard. Monahan, who knows his way around shady moral hinterlands having scripted The Departed and Body Of Lies, makes his directorial debut on the film which is shaping up to be a very interesting ensemble piece. The talented Graham joins a cast that includes Colin Farrell as a recently-paroled criminal and Keira Knightley who plays the reclusive young thesp he falls for. There's strong support from Ray Winstone, as a former crime boss, as well as David Thewlis and Anna Friel. Presumably Graham will appear somewhere in this mix of likely lads and ladettes to bang some heads together as a Cid detective.London Boulevard sees Graham return to a UK »
