Alex Rodriguez is currently serving a 162-game suspension from Major League Baseball for violating drug policy, but even though he’s 39 years old, he has every intention of making his way back to Yankee Stadium in 2015, if only to collect his more than $20 million per season salary. But though he’s won two Most Valuable Players as a Yankee and helped them win the 2009 World Series, Rodriguez’s infamy will likely prevent him from ever being considered an all-time Yankee.

This opening night, like so many recent ones in the lockout-shadowed sports world, almost didn't happen.
Brad Pitt's "Moneyball" was shutdown back in the summer of '09, just days before production was to begin, over concerns that director Steven Soderbergh's take wouldn't attract roaring crowds at the multiplex. But Pitt predicted something of a ninth-inning rally, and one new director later (Bennett Miller of "Capote" fame), the David-vs.-Goliath tale about the Oakland Athletics shot back to life and, almost two years later, premiered at the Mlb team's stadium on Monday night.
Pitt was on hand under the stadium floodlights, as were costars Jonah Hill and Philip Seymour Hoffman, plus Miller, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin and ballplayers including current A's designated hitter Hideki Matsui.
Photos of Pitt and Matsui provided an intriguing contrast to the film's central message that a small market team can best its richer rivals through...

Two months ago, Japan experienced a massive 9.0 earthquake and the devastating tsunami that followed. In response to this tragedy, actor Ken Watanabe launched www.uniteforjapan.org to rally people to donate funds for Japan’s relief effort through key organizations like the American Red Cross, Japan Society & Global Giving.
The impact of this natural disaster continues to be felt today by the people of Japan. Unite for Japan has launched two PSA videos featuring a special group of celebrities that came together to convey a very simple message: Unite for Japan.
Some of the stars who are featured in the PSAs are Paula Abdul, Ben Affleck, Zac Brown, Jamie Lee Curtis, Matt Damon, Ellen DeGeneres, Johnny Depp, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Clint Eastwood, Ayako Fujutani, Mikael Hafstrom, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Muramasa Kudo, Sharon Lawrence, John Legend, Richard Lewis, Rob Marshall, Hideki Matsui, Julian McMahon, Jennifer Morrison, Cillian Murphy,...

Ah, the first day of spring training. Major League Baseball pitchers and catchers end their vacations and report to their teams' spring camps to start early workout regimens. For baseball fans, it's a time of hope for the new baseball season. And if you're a New York Yankees fan like Jay-z and Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James, you can't help but be very optimistic that the Bronx Bombers will repeat their championship run of last year. It seems like only yesterday Jay-z and Alicia Keys were performing "Empire State of Mind" at the World Series in Yankee Stadium.
On Saturday night, during the "Two Kings Dinner & Afterparty" at the W Hotel in Dallas organized by Jay-z and James, the b-baller gave his prediction for...

The Yankees: either you love them or you hate them. If the latter then you’re pretty much bound to be disappointed more often than not because as popular sports journalism puts it, they’re the “winningest” team of all time. If you happen to be among the many Yankee fans out there, then there’s a whole new layer of categorization to go through. Do you go to every game? Are you the type who pays extra for that full cable sports package so you never miss a game? Did you host parties for your friends to come over, have a brew and watch New York’s finest pound the other teams into mere footnotes of 2009’s Mlb season? Then delight in the DVD release of the entire 2009 World Series wherein the Yankees lay waste to the Phillies. All six games (each on their own disc) plus the last...

New York — The New York Yankees rolled down the Canyon of Heroes in the traditional World Series parade on Friday morning. The city is electric, basking in the glow of the team's 27th World Championship. Along with the 2009 team — featuring Derek Jeter, Johnny Damon, A.J. Burnett, Mark Teixeira, C.C. Sabathia and Hideki Matsui — Bronx Bomber greats from previous Series-winning teams, such as Reggie Jackson and Chris Chambliss, were on hand. Even Jay-z rode a float with Alex Rodriguez. Jay is just one of many New York City-bred musical stars — also including Lady Gaga, Fabolous and Q-Tip — who have been raving about the Yanks.
However, one New Yorker who couldn't be in the city to see the parade is 50 Cent. He's in Miami promoting his forthcoming Before I Self Destruct LP.

Yankees supporters were out in force last night, and a few Twitter-Wood citizens were right by the field uploading pics. Brody Stevens may have shot the most enviable of the day, apparently getting soon-to-be-mvp Hideki Matsui in the dugout before the game. Jeremy Piven caught another high-quality photo-op, though, standing with his fellow Chicagoan Brian Urlacher.
Poor John Favreau was stuck in the editing room for "Iron Man 2," though, which he noted on his account. Larry King, Eliza Dushku and other added their thoughts after Phillies finally went down. Check out all of their tweets, along with Brett Ratner's pic with Mariah Carey after wrapping her video and Andy Milonakis. They're all in the Twitter-Wood report for November 5, 2009.

Last night in the Bronx, the New York Yankees beat the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 7-3, successfully closing out the 2009 World Series and clinching the team's 27th championship, the most of any professional sports team in history. Last night's game belonged to veteran Yankee ace Andy Pettitte (who pitched solidly on short rest) and to World Series Mvp Hideki Matsui, who tied a Series record with six Rbi. The victory is not nearly as poetic as some are making it out to be (after all, the Yanks last won a Series in 2000 — hardly the drought that the Boston Red Sox experienced), but it's an especially redemptive win for team manager Joe Girardi (who has been second-guessed for most of his tenure) and for slugger Alex Rodriguez, whose monster salary has long been in question because of his inability to win a championship. But all that has been washed...

Earlier today, we attempted to handicap the 2009 World Series (which starts in only a few hours) by taking a look at the at-bat songs for the Philadelphia Phillies. This time, we take a look at the lineup offered up by the New York Yankees. It's a less eclectic batch of tunes for sure, but possibly more effective, as it's filled top-to-bottom with badass New York hip-hop and tough guy tunes sure to swing any game in the Bronx's favor.
It begins with Derek Jeter and Jay-z's "Empire State of Mind" (which he and Alicia Keys will perform live during Game 2 on Thursday night), a great New York anthem for a great New York team (and a great New Yorker). Johnny Damon uses Saliva's "I Walk Alone" as his entrance tune, yet another track that connects baseball and wrestling (it's the same song used by WWE star Batista). Mark Teixeira uses...
