Set to start shooting in Croatia on April 17, the film focuses on a group of desperate migrants as they reach the Italian coast after a perilous journey across the Mediterranean Sea and the impact of their arrival on locals and tourists.
James Russo, Ulrich Thompson and Marcus Henderson
The film boasts a large ensemble cast that also includes Marcus Henderson (“Get Out”), BAFTA-winning actor Barkhad Abdi (“Captain Philipps”) and Costas Mandylor (the “Saw” franchise).

Uwe Boll is turning his lens on Europe’s growing migrant crisis in the forthcoming thriller “Run.”
Set to start shooting in April on the Croatian island of Krk, the film follows a boat carrying migrants from various African countries through the Mediterranean sea to Italy. When the boat loses orientation and goes off course, things turn violent as the migrants blame the smugglers.
After finally making it to shore, the desperate passengers try to evade police and a few manage to get away. The film focuses on the individual storylines of the migrants, locals and tourists through the course of the day as they lead to a violent escalation.
Daniel Sauli, Kristen Renton, Sammy Sheik and Mohammed Qissi (“Kickboxer”) star in the pic, which is still casting.

Six years passed without a new film from director Uwe Boll, a filmmaker some would describe as infamous, while others would say he’s legendary. Then last year he made Hanau (Deutschland im Winter – Part 1), about a real-life mass murderer. Now he’s back with the police drama First Shift, and while the movie isn’t expected to be released until sometime in 2024, a trailer has already arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.
Boll wrote, directed, and produced First Shift, which is described as being a gripping police drama with the spirit of a classic road movie, taking us on a soul-stirring journey through the vibrant streets of New York City into the depths of our own reality and the innermost corners of our souls. Immersing viewers in a high-octane adventure delving into the lives of dedicated law enforcement officers.

Uwe Boll, it seems, is back.
The notorious German director of Rampage, Postal and Far Cry has wrapped production on his new film, First Shift, a New York cop drama set over an intense 12-hour shift of a veteran NYPD officer and his rookie partner. It is Boll’s first U.S. film in five years, since 2016’s Rampage: President Down.
Gino Anthony Pesi (Shades of Blue) plays the veteran cop, with Kristen Renton (Sons of Anarchy) as the rookie. First Shift shot on location in New York and is currently in postproduction at Tunnel Post in Los Angeles.
Unlike many of the films in his oeuvre, from Seed (2006) and Postal (2007) to the Rampage trilogy — movies that indulged in extreme, graphic onscreen bloodshed — First Shift, Boll says, will show his kinder, gentler side.
“It’s an action movie, and there’s a side plot involving the mob, but it’s...

German distributor and world sales company Kinostar has acquired Polish filmmaker Maria Sadowska’s erotic thriller “Temptation.”
Based on the bestselling novel by Edyta Folwarska, “Temptation” tells the story of young journalist Inez, whose assignment to cover soccer star Maks Wygoda leads her onto a dangerous journey.
“Temptation” was produced by Daniel Markowicz of Warsaw-based Lightcraft, who also produced and directed the recent hit Netflix actioner “Lesson Plan,” and executive producers Paulina Nowak and Anita Dabrowska.
“Maria and Daniel are extremely talented, and we are very happy to start working with Lightcraft on this movie, with hopefully many more to follow,” said Kinostar head Michael Roesch.
Sadowska enjoyed a huge box office hit “Girls to Buy,” which saw the second-biggest 2021 opening in Poland after Daniel Craig’s 007 swan song “No Time to Die.” The film follows a young woman who, desperate to escape her small town, becomes an escort...

After a long break from feature films, director Uwe Boll is back and ready to roll with his latest project, a crime drama about two mismatched New York City cops on their first day as partners.
“First Shift” stars Kristen Renton (“Sons of Anarchy”) and Gino Anthony Pesi (“Shades of Blue”) as the badge-carrying duo, she a transplant from Atlanta new to the Big Apple, he a jaded Brooklyn cop who prefers to work alone but forced to take on the new partner.
Set to start shooting in New York City next month, “First Shift” has moved ahead of two other projects Boll has in the works, a South Africa-set thriller and a feature about Prohibition-era federal agent Eliot Ness — famously played by Kevin Costner and Robert Stack in the 1987 film and the 1959 series “The Untouchables” — during the latter part of his career.

House of the Dead 2 (2005)
Director: Michael Hurst
Writers: Mark A. Altman, Michael Roesch, Peter Scheerer
Cast: Emanuelle Vauguier (Alexandria), Ed Quinn (Ellis), Sticky Fingaz (Dalton), Nadine Velazquez (Rodriguez), Sid Haig (Professor Curien)
I can’t believe that I’m singing the praises of a “House of the Dead” movie. The first one was such a big disappointment, that a sequel that was so dissimilar to it in every way was a pretty welcome sight. I’m not a gamer, and perhaps I might have enjoyed the original, a bit more if I had. Doubtful, but maybe.
This one has Sid Haig, the hardest working man in exploitation film for four decades and counting as a professor that has come up with a way to reanimate the dead. He picks up a test subject/victim from the local college. She ends up being the...

This is a massive week of releases featuring a handful of films even I have to catch up with (not to mention there’s something for everyone in today’s line-up). But enough rambling, on to the goods!
Finally on DVD in the Us this week is the Canadian pseudo-zombie film Pontypool (review, amazon) from one of my favourite Canadian directors Bruce McDonald. Be sure to watch through the end credits! And by the way, the Us DVD cover art is pretty awesome.
Highlander director Russell Mulcahy’s private investigator drama Give 'em Hell, Malone (amazon) hits store shelves. It stars a great cast featuring Thomas Jane, Doug Hutchison and Ving Rhames. Fans of hard-boiled revenge thrillers may want to take a peek at Takanori Tsujimoto’s Hard Revenge Milly (amazon).
If a gorgeous looking prison escape drama is more your cup of tea, Rupert Wyatt’s The Escapist (amazon...

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has set a January 26 release date for Alone in the Dark II . Because you demanded it. Michael Roesch directed this entry which nixes Christian Slater and Tara Reid and gives us Rick Yune, Lance Henriksen, Ralf Moeller, Pj Soles, Bill Moseley, Rachel Specter, Michael Paré and Danny Trejo. Can you handle that? Yeah, didn't think you could. Edward Carnby, played by Slater in the last entry, is now embodied by Yune. Weird. That's the cover you see on the left brandishing the tagline "Evil returns." This entry has to do with a witch and a lab - when a full synopsis comes to light, we'll give it to you!

If ever there was a movie that did not require a follow-up, it would be Uwe Boll's disastrous Alone in the Dark. Uwe Boll only produced this time around, allowing the makers of the direct-to-dvd House of the Dead 2, Peter Scheerer and Michael Roesch, to write and direct this second installment of the Alone in the Dark franchise that continues its grand tradition of gobbledygook storytelling.

The role of Edward Carnby originated by Christian Slater is now played by Rick Yune; what exactly happened at the end of the original that turned Carnby Asian?
Gone are Slater, Tara Reid, and Stephen Dorff, but what a cast they still managed to wrangle for this name-only sequel about a team of witch hunters battling it out with a wicked witch while fighting over a cursed dagger: Rick Yune, Bill Moseley,...

Fango recently caught up with actor Rick Yune, best-known for his roles in such blockbuster action fare as The Fast And The Furious and Die Another Day and more recently seen in such low-budget efforts as The Fifth Commandment (which he also wrote and produced) and the creature-feature sequel Alone In The Dark II (pictured, and reviewed here). Considering that the latter’s producer Uwe Boll is turning Bloodrayne into a trilogy, it goes without saying that a third Alone is almost certainly guaranteed.
Even so, the Korean-born Yune, who replaced original star Christian Slater in the second installment, reveals that he will not reprise the role in any further follow-ups. “I have heard that they want to continue the Alone In The Dark series,” he tells Fango. “But I definitely will not be going back to play Edward Carnby again. Word to the wise: for those of you who are under the assumption that Uwe Boll’s collection of barely-watchable films are entirely his fault, you are mistaken. Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer, producers of such Boll classics as House of the Dead, Bloodrayne, and screenwriters of Alone in the Dark, prove with their directorial debut, Brotherhood of Blood, that they don’t need Boll to muck up their ill-conceived horror films anymore. This time, they’ll do it themselves!

You have to feel at least a little bit sorry for Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer, the writer/directors of the in-name-only follow-up to Uwe Boll’s notorious creature-feature flop Alone In The Dark. Having cut their teeth penning that film and the snooze-inducing House Of The Dead II, the twosome recently turned to calling the shots behind the camera with the low-budget vampire opus Brotherhood Of Blood and this far more extravagant outing—which, nevertheless, still suffers from an obvious lack of greenbacks.
Thus, whereas the original Alone In The Dark (which few people will dispute was a convoluted, badly acted mishmash of pathetically timed jump scares, lousy monster FX and sci-fi mumbo jumbo) at least looked lavish enough to pass muster as a theatrical attraction, this installment has a lot less to fall back on. So not only did the two have to try and reinvent a franchise...
