[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the S.W.A.T. Season 7 finale “Twenty Squad.”] The future looks bright for Twenty Squad. S.W.A.T. ended its seventh (and nearly final) season with a bang, with Hondo (Shemar Moore) putting himself at great risk to keep Los Angeles safe—and the city took notice. Meanwhile, Deacon (Jay Harrington), though retired, once again helped out, and by the end of the episode, he was back with S.W.A.T. Also sticking around on 20 Squad? Tan (David Lim), Powell (Anna Enger Ritch), and Alfaro (Niko Pepaj). And Hicks (Patrick St. Esprit) is letting Hondo pick whoever he wants to fill the sixth spot. It seems appropriate that a film made by two filmmakers - Filippino Don Josephus Raphael Eblahan and Singaporean Siyou Tan - should find its strength in juxtapositions. Student Joy (Chevy Claire Recososa Guantero) is waiting in line to participate in a talent contest, the implication being that it offers the prospect of escape to the big city from the provincial area where she lives.
We don’t learn that straight away, however, since this is a film that is built on mood and emotion rather than narrative. Instead it begins with her on a beach during the magic hour in a stand-off with a young butcher (Noriel Tome Obinmaga). This is not their first encounter - we’ll see that later - but the sequence of events here is less important than the feelings they bring with them.
Elbahan previously made the atmospheric Sundance short The Headhunter’s Daughter, and Tan’s CV includes.

Simon McQuoid’s 2021 feature directorial debut with the martial arts fantasy film Mortal Kombat has certainly created a splash among fans but it was far from having an impressive box office gross. Still, New Line Cinema alongside Atomic Monster and Broken Road Productions is bringing a sequel to the first movie with Warner Brothers distributing the movie.
Sisi Stringer as Mileena in Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat 2 hype is quite promising as the movie will bring back the essence of the action-adventure fighting video game series, Mortal Kombat. However, fans have one subtle demand for the studio asking the makers not to repeat one critical mistake in the sequel of the action movie.
Mortal Kombat 2 Will Be “Way Bigger” Hiroyuki Sanada in Mortal Kombat
The preparation of the movie following the announcement has been long, perhaps, this time Warner Brothers are expecting more appealing sequences embedded into the narrative.

Shemar Moore was celebrating the renewal of S.W.A.T in a big way last night at the CBS Fall Schedule Celebration in Hollywood.
Moore has portrayed series lead Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson across the show’s 7 seasons and serves as a producer. S.W.A.T is a procedural drama that follows Hondo, a Los Angeles S.W.A.T. Sargent who balances loyalty to the job and the streets where he grew up. The show airs new episodes Friday at 8 p.m.
Following 6 seasons, CBS announced in 2023 that the series was canceled before the network reversed its decision opting to renew the show for a seventh and final season which premiered earlier this year. Following an impassioned campaign led by Moore and the drama’s devoted fans, CBS uncanceled the show once more announcing last month they’d ordered an eighth season.

S.W.A.T. could be a perfect example of how a network can mishandle a reliable performer.
Based on its ratings, S.W.A.T. should have been a sure shot for CBS to renew.
In Live + 7 results, S.W.A.T. Season 6 averaged 6.8 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in the demo.
This made the series the No.3 show in the demo on the network and No. 10 among total viewers.
Despite that, the ax fell on S.W.A.T. last May, with storylines left hanging, the worst possible fate for a veteran series.
Star Shemar Moore blasted the decision because he and the other cast members saw those rating numbers and felt confident about a renewal.
The cancellation stood for two days. Then CBS caved in the face of a deluge of outrage from the series' fans, and S.W.A.T. was renewed for a 13-episode final, seventh season, giving it a chance for closure.
Then came the lengthy actors' and writers' strikes,...

Comicbook artist and writer Frank Miller, the man behind classics “300,” “Sin City” and “Daredevil,” is working on his new projects through Frank Miller Presents, the publishing banner he launched last year.
Miller, speaking at Lucca Comics & Games this week, told Variety what drove him to embark on this new creative venture. “I’d say I was driven by restlessness. I wanted to take advantage of my experience and my reputation, and to recognize that now it’s time to be an adult.”
Being aware that “the industry has been running down a certain path for a very long time,” Miller felt ready to explore new avenues and to work with undiscovered talents.
Frank Miller Presents is currently focusing its efforts on two main projects. The first is “Ronin,” whose new volumes are in the works. A sequel to the 1983-1984 limited series, the cyberpunk tale is based on Miller...

“Queer Eye” star Karamo Brown said his costar Antoni Porowski didn’t send him an invitation to attend his bachelor party. Bobby Berk and Jonathan Van Ness were also left off the guest list.
During a chat with Bravo executive and host of Sirius Xm’s “Andy Cohen Live,” Andy Cohen, the reality TV star and personality revealed he seemingly wasn’t wanted at Porowski’s marital event.
“Did you go to Antoni’s bachelor party?” Cohen asked.
“I did not. I wasn’t invited,” Brown replied. “The shade of it all.”
He then went on to say that along with him, his two castmates also weren’t invited to attend.
“No. Bobby was not invited, I was not invited, and Jon Van Ness,” Brown said. “Just Tan [France] was invited. The shade.”
When Cohen mentioned that Berk told him that he was simply unable to make the party, Brown responded by denying Berk’s claim.

Producer James Wan revealed last night on Ig that filming is officially underway on Mortal Kombat 2, which has Simon McQuoid returning to the director’s seat from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater (“The Exorcist,” “Moon Knight”).
Martyn Ford (“The Sandman”), Desmond Chiam (“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”), Ana Thu Nguyen (Suka) and Damon Herriman (House of Wax, The Nightingale) signed on a few weeks ago to play Shao Kahn, Edenian King Jerrod, Queen Sindel, and Netherrealm demon Quan Chi respectively.
It’s interesting to note that Herriman previously voiced the role of Kabal in the 2021 film.
Newcomers to the sequel also include Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Tati Gabrielle as Jade and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana.
Plot details remain scarce for the sequel, though the new cast additions continue to signal a bigger, bloodier affair packed with fatalities.

Mortal Kombat 2 recently started filming in Australia and producer Todd Garner shared a photo of the cast enjoying a meal. If you take a look at the photo, you’ll see Karl Urban sporting some frosted tips and a more clean-shaven face to play Johnny Cage.

Johnny Cage is an action movie star and martial artist who first appeared in the original Mortal Kombat game released in 1992. The character didn’t appear in the recent Mortal Kombat movie, but a post-credit scene teased that he would be on his way. It was announced earlier this year that Karl Urban was in talks to play Johnny Cage. I’m excited to see the actor in costume for the first time, but I have no doubt that he’s going to knock the role out of the park.

“Barbarian Invasion” director Tan Chi Mui from Malaysia scored a top result from the Siff Project Market. The market is a component event of the Shanghai International Film Festival, which wrapped up over the weekend.

Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid is returning to the helm for the sequel that we’ll refer to as Mortal Kombat 2 until someone tells us otherwise. Filming on this follow-up is expected to begin soon (unless the writers strike causes a delay), and over the last month and a half McQuoid has been steadily building up his cast. The Boys star Karl Urban has been cast to play Johnny Cage; Adeline Rudolph (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) is set to play Princess Kitana; and Tati Gabrielle (You) is taking on the role of Jade, the friend and bodyguard of Princess Kitana. Now Deadline reports that four more actors have joined the cast, filling the roles of Outworld emperor Shao Kahn, Kahn’s wife Queen Sindel, Netherrealm demon Quan Chi, and Jerrod, who was the King of Edenia (and married to Sindel) until Edenia’s warriors lost in the Mortal Kombat tournament.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina actress Adeline Rudolph is going from Riverdale to Outworld for New Line‘s Mortal Kombat 2. Rudolph is the second Chilling Adventures cast member to sign on for the Mortal Kombat sequel after Tati Gabrielle announced she’s in talks to play Jade in the follow-up to director Simon McQuoid’s 2021 smash. McQuoid directs the sequel, featuring Karl Urban as the fast-talking Hollywood misfit fighter Johnny Cage.
Written by Jeremy Slater, Mortal Kombat 2 continues the story established in the McQuoid reboot, focusing on an eclectic group of fighters pulled into a contest of champions for the fate of Earthrealm against the sinister forces of Outworld. New Line’s Mortal Kombat was released at the onset of the pandemic in theaters and on HBO Max, becoming one of the streaming platform’s most significant hits.

A short amount of internet research does not reveal, sadly, a canonical reason why "Mortal Kombat" is spelled with a "K." Midway's "Mortal Kombat" first hit arcades in 1992, and was notable for its blood and gore and for its graphics. "Mortal Kombat" incorporated photographs of actual actors in colorful outfits and in fight poses who were then animated into the game. Unlike its more cartoonish competitor "Street Fighter," "Mortal Kombat" had an edge.
Over the years, the premise of "Mortal Kombat" became complicated to the point of risibility. It seems a fighting tournament is held every X number of years, and people from across multiple dimensions, including robots and demons, gather to compete. The winner will receive ultimate power or something. It doesn't really matter. The point is getting strange, colorful, violent characters in an area so that we may witness one forcibly removing the spine from the other.
Over 30 years later,...

Lewis Tan is the face of a big ongoing franchise, playing Mma fighter turned world-saving hero in "Mortal Kombat," which currently has a sequel in the works. It turns out that Tan very nearly landed another huge gig around the same time: Shang-Chi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Indeed, had things gone another way, it could be Tan suiting up as Shang-Chi and not Simu Liu. And it sounds very much like Tan was in the running right until the very end.
Tan spoke about the experience to Entertainment Tonight around the time that 2021's "Mortal Kombat" was coming out. He explained what it was like landing the role of Cole Young, a character created specifically for the movie. Here's what he had to say about it:
"That was a crazy moment. I had just gotten back from Japan. I just lost a crazy job - a really, really high-caliber level job.

In the present day, Misty (Christina Ricci) helps Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) cover up the death of her former lover, Taissa (Tawny Cypress) battles for control of her body, and Natalie (Juliette Lewis) finds herself held captive by a familiar cult.

Reviewing Taiwanese Cinema history, everyone refers to the masters of Taiwanese New Wave, like Hou Hsiao-hsien, Edward Yang, Wan Jen and Wang Toon. However, seldom people had ever mentioned another great director who made, possibly, the greatest gangster film in Taiwan: Hsu Hsiao-ming. Only some audience has seen his “Dust of Angels”, which is underrated all the time.
“Dust of Angels” is screening at Udine Far East Film Festival
The story is about two teenagers, A-Guo and A-Douzi, who use drugs and hang around with gangster all day. During the 1990s, Taiwanese economy had reached its highest point, and the society changed faster than any periods in history. The economic boom gave gangsters opportunities to gain their power in business and politics. Teenagers like the main characters were easily absorbed and became part of it. After getting involved in a homicide event in their home town, A-Guo...

I had a chance to watch the first three episodes of the new Netflix limited series “Beef” last night, and it didn’t take long before I was hooked. It came inside of 10 minutes. Steven Yeun (as the suicidal contractor Danny Cho) and Ali Wong (as the wealthy but tortured boutique entrepreneur Amy Lau) are brilliant and deserving of all the praise that’s already been heaped upon them, and the narrative and production are irresistibly intriguing and discomforting. But what struck me was how quickly I forgot I was watching a production filled almost exclusively with Asian American actors. It all became rather seamless, even as the storyline alluded the players’ ethnicity.
The reception greeting the series that despite its title deals with beef mostly metaphorically (stemming from a road rage incident leading to an elongated feud that makes the protagonists feel alive) has been deservedly exalted, bolstered by major word of mouth.

Although Mortal Kombat received fairly mixed reviews upon its release on HBO Max two years ago, it was also the streaming service’s most-watched movie of the year. The studio officially got the ball rolling on a sequel last year, and it seems that Mortal Kombat 2 is aiming to start filming this summer.
Replying to a report from Geek Vibes Nation on Twitter, Mortal Kombat producer Todd Garner seemingly confirmed that the sequel will start shooting in Australia this June by responding, “I was wondering why I had an apt in Australia…” Mortal Kombat 2 will once again be directed by Simon McQuoid, with Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight) writing the script. With filming on Mortal Kombat 2 just over the horizon, we should start hearing more about the sequel before too long. It’s expected that filming should wrap by September.

Debbie Allen returns to CBS’ S.W.A.T. this Friday, for the first time in a minute — and it is for the best of reasons, as Charice meets her son Hondo’s newborn daughter. And TVLine has an exclusive sneak peek.
In the exclusive clip above, Nichelle (played by Rochelle Aytes) is still reeling from the rigor of childbirth, while Hondo (Shemar Moore) can barely bring himself to leave his family and report to work for the first time since Vivian came into the world.

The "Shadow and Bone" universe is lush with magic, from bursts of light that shoot out of characters' hands to ancient swords that can cut through seemingly indestructible shadows. In the world of "Shadow and Bone," though, these powers aren't actually called magic - they're instead referred to as the "small science," or the art of manipulating matter, and the characters who practice it are called Grisha.
There are three main categories of Grisha - the Corporalki, Etherealki, and Materialki - and each is broken down into subsets, such as Inferni, who can manipulate fire; Heartrenders, who can control people's internal organs and can also detect when people are telling the truth; and Durasts, who can bend and move metals with their minds. But in the real world, the "Shadow and Bone" cast have differing opinions on which powers are most covetable.
