The teaser shows the recreation of Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna’s historic victory, including the narration of Galvão Bueno, at the 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos, following a challenging race where he was mostly stuck in sixth gear and also marking the first time he won in his hometown of Sao Paulo. The Kennedys have never shied away from symbolism, and it’s not hard to read the political message in a St. Patrick’s Day photo taken at the White House that includes President Joe Biden and dozens of members of the iconic political clan but very obviously does not include the family member who is himself running for the presidency: Rfk, Jr.
The photo was posted by the candidate’s sister, Kerry Kennedy, who has been outspoken in her criticism of her brother. When he declared his bid last year, Kerry Kennedy posted a statement distancing herself from his controversial views. Other members of the family have also spoken out. The most recent post seems more a statement by omission.

Silo has shifted into the next phase of events. But we can accept that because we have made it halfway through. Now we have to see how Juliette finds out about George’s death and Silo’s secrets.

This is Juliette's story, and everyone else is just living in it.
Silo Season 1 Episode 5 dug deeper into the mysteries of the Silo, but it left us with more questions than answers.
We'll start with Marnes because it's very difficult knowing Juliette has to proceed on this mission to unearth what is truly happening without him.
Juliette understood Marnes wasn't all that fond of her, but they had a mutual respect for one another because they knew someone was killing innocent people inside the Silo.
Killing off Marnes so soon was another lesson that we should not become too attached to any of the characters because everyone is fair game, thanks to the cutthroat nature of the corruption in the Silo.
Sadly, Marnes went out while reeling from the death of the woman he loved, but you have to give some credit to Bernard for planning the ultimate smokescreen...

Till Episode 4 of Silo, Juliette at least had Sam with her for assistance. In the absence of Holston, Sam was the only one who was ready to listen to her and all that she had learned about the Silo from George. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen. Sam succumbs to the attack. We have no idea who the person who killed him was or if anyone sent him to kill Sam. It is up to Juliette to find out. Also, we must remember that she needs to visit Martha. She has repaired George’s relic, the camcorder.

Juliette has not even become the sheriff, and things have already started falling apart. Mayor Ruth is poisoned to death. George’s missing notes mean that either someone stole them, or someone has hidden them, which also means that bad people are looking for them. Episode 4 of Silo further shows Bernard taking over Ruth’s position as the new acting mayor, at least until the elections. And the guy is, from the looks of it, up to no good. Something is brewing inside the Silo, and Juliette has to figure out what before it’s too late.

Today he may be best known for setting up the multiverse threads of the MCU, but before (and after) taking on the role of Dr. Stephen Strange, British actor Benedict Cumberbatch put together an impressive resume of performances, ranging from the stage to television to the silver screen. After graduating from the University of Manchester's Drama program and earning a master's from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in 2000, Cumberbatch found steady work in the U.K., eventually answering Steven Spielberg's call in 2011's "War Horse."
Since then, he's been a mainstay in Hollywood, with an ardent fan base ready to fight for him online and show up to (most) of his films. Throughout his 20-plus years as a working actor, Cumberbatch has had his share of missteps, but for the most part, his movie choices have typically been sound and his performances solid, even on...

On Feb. 9, "Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence" premiered on Hulu. The true-crime documentary miniseries tells the harrowing story of the cult at Sarah Lawrence College, a prestigious liberal arts school just outside New York City. At the center of the story is Larry Ray, who was the leader of the cult. The documentary has people wondering where the sinister con artist is now, and while the short answer is that he's exactly where he should be - behind bars - there's more to know.
Who Is Larry Ray?
Before Ray's disturbing crimes were unveiled, Ray (whose real name is Lawrence Grecco) worked in several professions, according to People, from nightlife to consulting - he even traded stocks on Wall Street in the 1980s. According to New York Magazine, Ray also held political fundraisers, including for Patrick Kennedy. He did all of this despite not having a degree.

Milwaukee Detective Patrick Kennedy took Dahmer’s confession on the night he was caught and developed a strange connection to the madman. Best TV Movie/Limited Series
Updated: Feb. 24, 2021
Awards Commentary:
This year’s limited series category is an ambitious field, made up of personal tales like “Small Axe” and “Unorthodox,” an addictive mystery in “The Undoing” and a boundary-pushing, honest relationship tale with “Normal People.” But the compelling performance by Anya Taylor-Joy in “The Queen’s Gambit,” which manages to make chess exciting and one young woman’s personal journey combating her demons even more compelling, is the true frontrunner here.
And The Predicted Winner Is: "The Queen's Gambit" (Netflix)–
Executive Producers: William Horberg, Allan Scott, Scott Frank
Synopsis: Beth Harmon (played by Anya Taylor-Joy) is an orphan who becomes a chess prodigy, but alcoholism may prevent her from becoming the world champion.

“The Queen’s Gambit” is quite the risky proposition in itself. The seven-part Netflix limited series features an emerging star in Anya Taylor-Joy; the breakout best known for her work in horror hits like “The Witch” and “Split” is already a favorite of critics and youths alike. And yet if her captivating performance is already a given, the surrounding story’s allure is anything but. Scott Frank’s adaptation of Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel focuses on a subject typically deployed in film and television as a metaphor, usually by mature writers and aimed at a similarly senior audience. Chess, after all, is rarely described as a young person’s game.
Nor is it particularly compelling to watch. Small wooden pieces being slowly slid around a tabletop doesn’t easily lend itself to absorbing cinema, especially given the challenging nature of the game itself. “Pawn Sacrifice,” “Computer Chess,” and even the Pixar short...

Susanna Nicchiarelli’s latest film opens with a neo-punk song and title credits flashing in Alexander McQueen-esque prints across the screen. Woohoo! Looks like we are in for a punk-rock rollercoaster ride in the life of Karl Marx’s daughter, Eleanor (Romola Garai); a film as radical as the woman, perhaps. Alas, the in-your-face opening does not live up to its promise. Nicchiarelli has chosen a fascinating woman who was surrounded by great thinkers, was a gifted writer and orator, had forward-thinking views, was a linguist and lived a life outside of the parameters dictated by Victorian society. And what does the director focus on? Eleanor’s love life.
The film opens with Eleanor (Tussie to her family and friends) speaking at her father’s graveside on the day of his funeral and this is a handy way to introduce some of the key characters: Engels (John Gordon Sinclair...

“Miss Marx” is a biopic bookended by death, colored by it throughout. It introduces us to socialist activist Eleanor Marx at the funeral of her father Karl, and follows her through to her untimely suicide, at the age of 43, some 15 years later. Ghosts of the past and future weigh heavily on her in the interim: She mourns her father not long after burying her mother and her sister. Months after Eleanor’s suicide, her long-term partner Edward Aveling followed her into the ground; another sister took her own life years later. All of which is to say that waves and shadows of grief move through Susanna Nicchiarelli’s ambitious film at every turn, running backwards and forwards, as it studies how its subject attempted to change the world for the better — all while a hard black knot of compacted unhappiness settled and expanded inside her.

A raucous, rock n’ roll-tinged opening sets the stage for Susanna Nicchiarelli’s Eleanor Marx biopic, “Miss Marx,” all crashing music and zinging credits, giddily announcing that this will not be your typical biodrama. Yet, save for a few more uses of a modern punk score and an explosive performance from star Romola Garai,
Eleanor, Karl Marx’s youngest daughter and one of his closest confidants, lived a life worthy of a Sub Pop soundtrack. She liked to play in her father’s office while he wrote “Das Kapital” and became his secretary at 16. Around the same time, the family took in Prosper-Olivier Lissagaray, a journalist who was exiled from France for his participation in the Paris Commune. At 17, Eleanor fell in love with the 35-year-old Lissagaray, who continued living with the Marx family for nearly a decade despite the family’s initial disapproval of the match. She and her...

Most people smile just at the mention of this show … nothing is more healthy than an old fashioned laugh. Zucker, Zucker & Abrahams’ non-stop joke fest finds good fun in movie spoofery without malice, and is populated by a squadron of old pros that once made the originals fly right, no matter how clunky they were. All hail Leslie Nielsen, Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack and Peter Graves, the veterans of countless ‘keep a straight face and pretend it’s serious’ groaners. It’s a 40th Anniversary new restoration. Now, finally, do I park in the red zone or the white zone?

Venice Golden Lion contender “Miss Marx,” starring Romola Garai as the spirited daughter of philosopher Karl Marx, has secured its first tranche of international deals ahead of the September fest. (Watch the film’s exclusive trailer above.)
Written and directed by Susanna Nicchiarelli, with Celluloid Dreams serving as international sales agent, the film has been picked up by DDDreams in China and B-Team in Spain. In Italy, 01 — the distribution arm of Rai Cinema — will distribute the film, which is produced by Vivo film with Rai Cinema and Tarantula.
In what appears to be a refreshingly rock ‘n’ roll take on history, Garai plays Marx’s youngest daughter Eleanor, a strong feminist and socialist who takes part in workers’ battles and fights for women’s rights, as well as the abolition of child labor. The film also details her tragic relationship with Edward Aveling (Patrick Kennedy), whom she meets in 1883.

‘Patrick Melrose’: How Benedict Cumberbatch Became an Expert in Addiction to Deliver His Career Best
Not only is Showtime’s five-part mini-series “Patrick Melrose” a superb cinematic adaptation of Edward St Aubyn’s five searing novels, it marks Benedict Cumberbatch’s best performance ever. While some may prefer his Oscar-nominated “The Imitation Game,” star-making Emmy-winner “Sherlock,” or little-seen Emmy-nominated role in “Parade’s End,” it’s “Patrick Melrose” that feels like a role he was born to play.
The 42-year-old British star, who moves easily from comic-book roles like Marvel’s Doctor Strange to the BBC’s urbane “Sherlock” and the high drama of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” scored his sixth Emmy nomination (one of five for the series) for his tour-de-force portrayal of a not-so-functioning drug addict with icky family secrets. The series, written by David Nicholls (“One Day”) and directed by Edward Berger (“Deutchland 83”), is entertaining and moving in equal measure, thanks to Cumberbatch’s careening yet precise performance. He nails this guy.

A real peach of a ’70s New Hollywood picture, Mark Rydell and Darryl Ponicsan’s story of a sailor on extended leave is sentimental neorealism — a tough street story, but with the pessimism removed. Poolroom hustler Marsha Mason and sailor-adrift James Caan are a beautiful couple in the making — although the whole world seems against them.

Actors, like Donald Trump, prefer to remain “semi-exact” when it comes to the facts. Perception is our domain, not to be undermined by actuality. A fact like an actor’s date of birth stands in the way of our dreams at some point in all our working lives – we’re no different from anyone else in this – but it’s notoriously true that actors contend with age in unequal ways. Without a doubt, since I’ve left my twenties the roles have become more interesting. Maybe that’s just art reflecting life. Young men are never as interesting as they think they are. Demetrius is no match for Helena, Lysander for Hermia, nor that dolt Romeo for the wry and cogent Juliet.

This one's a keeper, a film that generates a meaningful emotional charge. In 1947, the world famous sleuth has retired to a remote Sussex farmhouse, living in relative anonymity with only his housekeeper Mrs Munro and her young son Roger for company. Cantankerous, demanding and frustrated with the mis-representation of him in Watson’s best-selling novels, he diverts his attention to an unsolved case. As the mystery deepens, Sherlock tries desperately to recall the events of 30 years ago that ultimately led to his retirement.
I had high hopes for Mr. Holmes. After all, not only does the film star Ian McKellan in the central role but Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s character is, typically, guaranteed to provide some intriguing crime-solving action. Not so here.

It looks lovely and Ian McKellen is amazing, of course, but it’s not very Holmesian. I suspect Holmes himself would snort in derision at its sentimentality. I’m “biast” (pro): big fan of Sherlock Holmes and Ian McKellen
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

I love Sherlock Holmes in all his many incarnations, and when I heard that director Bill Condon was making a movie about an elderly Holmes played by Ian McKellan, I cheered. The two had previously collaborated on the wonderful Gods and Monsters — about the classic Frankenstein filmmaker James Whale in his later years — so this new film was bound to be great, wasn’t it? I was a tad sorry to learn that Mr. Holmes, though based on a novel, was not based on the fabulous Mary Russell...

Mr. Holmes
Written for the screen by Jeffrey Hatcher
Directed by Bill Condon
UK, 2015
Sherlock Holmes is a character so ingrained in our cultural imagination that it’s hard to think up any new spin on him. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle invented a character who became an archetype, even for procedural television, as the airwaves are still littered with brilliant assholes who owe their very existence to the original detective of 221B Baker Street.
Mr. Holmes, the latest depiction of Holmes, directed by Bill Condon and based on Mitch Cullin’s novel A Slight Trick of the Mind, manages to find new ground by emphasizing the character’s vulnerability and, thus, his humanity. Ian McKellen plays an aged Holmes past his mental prime, struggling against encroaching senility to remember the conclusion to his final mystery. The enigmatic case unfolds only as quickly as Holmes can remember it, which is to say,...

Opening in Us theatres on July 17, here’s a look at the new trailer for Mr. Holmes.
In his Berlinale 2015 review, Alex Billington (First Showing.net) writes Ian McKellen, “is absolutely magnificent in this film, taking on the role with complete authority and differentiating himself (from anything he has done before) with minor quirks and physical mannerisms. He does give us a Sherlock Holmes that we have never seen before, both likable and unlikable, but still traditional and nevertheless wise. Through his charm, and the impressively conceived narrative built around emotion, this film left a strong impression on me that will likely last for a long time.”

Downton Abbey commenced last night’s episode with honored guests making their arrival for a party at the British estate. Among the guests is Lord Gillingham (Tom Cullen), who brings along his valet Green (Nigel Harman).
Lord Gillingham & Lady Mary
The affable Lord Gillingham, who’s single – unless you count the woman he’s courting – does his best to win over Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery). If his first attempt is any indication, he’s going to need some help. After telling Mary he has no wife or children, he asks, “What about you?” Remembering her husband Matthew Crawley’s (Dan Stevens) death, he adds, “I just wasn’t thinking. Please forgive.”
Things take a positive turn for Gillingham when only he and Mary end up going horseback riding. Mary opens up in the alone time, telling her childhood friend about the many ways in which her late husband changed her.
