The Hills Have Eyes 2. No, not that one. That’s The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 and has one of the greatest things ever filmed where a dog, an actual dog, has a flashback and its just, muah, chef’s kiss. While I actually think that original 1985 sequel is way too much fun for its own good – it was written and directed by Craven, brings back Michael Berryman, has Harry Manfredini give us the score, and oh yeah, has a dog flashback. A Dog, Flashback – I’m not here to talk about that one that is probably so bad it’s good. I’m here to discuss the true black sheep of this inbred mountain family and give you all a look at the movie that is not a remake of the sequel but rather a sequel to the remake. The Hills Have Eyes 2 (watch it Here) is a...

Today sees the DVD and digital release of Squatters, a straight to video release by director Martin Weisz. The film follows a couple of homeless drifters, played by Gabriella Wilde and Thomas Dekker.
When they hear of a family who are going away on vacation, they move into their home, intent on making as much money from the property as they can before the owners return. The family, however, come home early… Squatters also stars Richard Dreyfuss as the man of the house, a welcome appearance by an actor who seems to be spending less time than ever on-screen. Dreyfuss, however, is a talented actor, with many memorable roles on his CV. Here, we take a look at six of the best.

Imagine this: You go away on holiday, but things don’t go according to plan. So, you go home early. When you arrive, however, it turns out your empty house isn’t quite so empty… This is the plot of Squatters, the latest film from film by director Martin Weisz, available this Monday on DVD and digital download.
A frightening premise, to be sure, but there have been several other, arguably scarier, films revolving around home invasions. Here we take a look at six of the best.

We don't know about you guys, but we still have a bad taste in our mouths from The Hills Have Eyes II. A movie that bad tends to linger sometimes like the rancid stench of a fart that just won't go away. Still, everyone deserves a second chance, and that's exactly what the director of the crap-fest will be getting.
According to Variety Safady Entertainment is launching development of supernatural thriller Dreamt with Martin Weisz attached to direct.
With a script by Andrew Alexander, "Dreamt' is set in modern day and centers on two people dreaming in each other's lives. Conflict ensues after the men discover each other's existence, leading one man to try to take over the other's life and stopping at nothing to get it."
Shooting is set to begin in April.

Safady Entertainment (Machine Gun Preacher) is launching development of supernatural thriller Dreamt with Martin Weisz attached to direct, says Variety. Weisz is the German director behind the underrated Grimm and The Hills Have Eyes II, which he allegedly made a complete mess of (there were rumors of a second unit shooting simultaneously to fix his mistakes). With a script by Andrew Alexander, " 'Dreamt' i set in modern day and centers on two people dreaming in each other's lives. Conflict ensues after the men discover each other's existence, leading one man to try to take over the other's life and stopping at nothing to get it." Partners Gary Safady and Craig Chapmans are producing along with Todd Moyer of the Flagship Management Group, who is currently producing the Brendan Fraser film "William Tell 3D." Shooting is set to begin in April.

After a couple of light on horror weeks, we are finally treated to a bumper crop of new releases. Headlining the week is Frozen, which is just what we in Southern California need to stave off our current heat wave. A couple of oldies but goodies are out, too, as Madman celebrates its Happy 30th Birthday and the original King Kong comes to Blu-ray. Fangoria's eight FrightFest titles bow as well.
Frozen
Directed by Adam Green
In Frozen (review), Adam Green has crafted a potent combination of absolute terror and compelling human drama that will stick with you long after you've left the theatre or turned off the DVD. One thing's for sure: The next time your friends invite you on a ski weekend, odds are you'll try to convince them to head to the beach instead. Frozen stars Shawn Ashmore, Emma Bell and Kevin Zegers.
Buy the Blu-ray or the regular DVD.

Grimm Love Movie Still (Meiwes)Director: Martin Weisz.
Writers: T. S. Faull.
Grimm Love is a film which is being distributed by Lightning Entertainment on DVD next month. The film covers the murder case involving the real life characters Armin Meiwes and Bernd Jurgen Brandes. Meiwes ate the later in an instance of cannibalism. This subject matter has spawned the films The Man Who Ate His Lover and Cannibal. Non-fiction, very disturbing, and truly horrifying, Grimm Love is a homo-erotic love story involving grotesque acts of butchery.
This film was completed in 2006 and then released in Germany as Rohtenburg. There are numerous sources which cover this story in more depth, but centrally the film involves two very lonely and very twisted human beings. Both are homosexuals. One character (Brandes) is involved in a romantic relationship and the other (Meiwes) is slowly coming to terms with his homosexuality after the death of this overly protective mother.

Screamfest, Rachel Belofsky’s venerated Los Angeles horror film festival (now in its tenth year, running October 9th thru the 17th at Highland and Hollywood in Hollywood, CA), has historically been on the cutting edge of horror, having in the past introduced to the American public such disturbing and blogged-about features as The Human Centipede, Martyrs and Inside, just to name a few.

Cool news from the cool people over at Fangoria: this summer they will be distributing eight horror films in a multi-platform program with the label "FrightFest". Through partnering with Lightning Media these films will be made available on DVD, Video-On-Demand and Digital Download.
Even more cool: on the FrightFest website readers can vote which of these films should get a theatrical release in July. Right now the site just shows the selected titles but trailers, clips and featurettes should follow soon.
And the titles are not to be sneezed at: James Isaac's "Pig Hunt", Jaume Balagueró's "Fragile", Steven Hentges' "Hunger", Dean Francis' "Road Train", Darin Scott's "Dark House", Martin Weisz' "Grimm Love", Elio Quiroga's "No-Do: The Beckoning", and finally Michael Staininger's "Ligeia".

I often find myself equating narrative porn with the Saw film franchise. It’s cute that they try to go for some sort of story but, ultimately, all I really want to see are the scenes where bodily fluids are spurting across the room. If I’m ever opting to watch one of these features, I do so with a very specific agenda in mind and that agenda is not aided by the contemptibly tedious performances of failed models and sitcom actors whose idea of fine drama includes raising an eyebrow after each line of dialog. Thankfully however, this is not always the case with pornography that spoofs popular film and television. Such porn parodies often tend to go more for laughs than loads (tongue and cheek hit Playmate Of The Apes comes to mind). So, when I heard Hustler Video had produced a pornographic parody of Wes Craven’s...

Cologne, Germany -- A film loosely based on the life of infamous German cannibal Armin Meiwes has been cleared for release in Germany after a four-year legal battle.
Martin Weisz's "Rohtenburg" (Grimm Love), starring Keri Russell and Thomas Kretschmann, was a strong festival player, winning multiple awards at fantasy fests in Spain, Sweden, Luxembourg and South Korea. But German courts initially blocked its local release after Meiwes filed a suit claiming the film violated his rights.
The German Federal Court of Justice overturned that ruling Tuesday, saying that, in this case, artistic freedom trumps Meiwes' personal rights. It is expected that Senator Film, which co-produced "Rothenburg" with Marco Weber's Atlantic Streamline, will release the film in Germany.
Meiwes is serving a life sentence for killing and eating a man who answered a cannibalistic lonely hearts ad Meiwes put online.

A ban on a gruesome German horror movie which chronicles a real-life cannibal act has been reversed in a Berlin court.
Convicted flesh eater Armin Meiwes sued to prevent the release of Martin Weisz's 2006 film Rohtenburg, claiming the movie violated his rights.
Meiwes was sentenced to life behind bars in 2006 after he confessed to killing and eating Bernd-Juergen Brandes, who asked the so-called Cannibal of Rothenburg to "obliterate" his life.
Weisz's film stars Keri Russell as an American student researching the infamous cannibal case.

The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival kicks off tomorrow with a screening of Ella Lemhagen’s Swedish comedy Patrik, Age 1.5, in which a gay couple discover that their newly adopted "baby" is actually a 15-year-old anti-gay juvenile delinquent. Among the other films scheduled at the festival, which runs until May 3, are: Yair Hochner’s quirky romantic comedy Antarctica (above, top photo), in which several gay men and a couple of lesbians try to sort out their entangled romantic lives in bustling Tel Aviv — all that while awaiting for aliens to land in the city. Valdis Óskarsdóttir’s Icelandic comedy Country Wedding (above, lower photo), about several individuals with various personal secrets who gather for an out-of-town wedding. Jacqui Morris‘ British romantic comedy Mr. Right, which follows three London gay couples and their emotional ups and downs. Martin Weisz’s Grimm Love (neither romantic nor a comedy), based on the real...

A horror film fan has dropped me a line on writer Jace Anderson's latest production "Clock Tower," and Capcom's video game adaption is moving towards a 2010 release date. Written by Jace Anderson from "Autopsy," this film is sure to sprinkle in some gore for fans. And Apparently there have been over six screenwriters for the "Clock Tower," production. Set backs involving, studio Senator Entertainment, finding the right cast and crew for the film has caused some delay. However, eight promotional posters are now available including the Christian themed one above, that subtly highlights the cross.
Also part of the crew is infamous director Martin Weisz from the abysmal "The Hills Have Eyes II." Here's hoping writer Jace Anderson comes up with something spectacular that Weisz is unable to ruin.

For My Bloody Valentine screenwriters Todd Farmer and Zane Smith, penning a script for a movie to be shot in the latest, most hi-tech version of 3-D yet did not pose any particular challenges. Nor did it call for them to dream up especially imaginative death scenes…at first.
“Certainly not initially,” says Farmer, whose previous credits include 2001’s Jason X and 2007’s The Messengers. “At first, we concentrated on characters and plot, because that’s really what we want to do. I mean, we’re all horror fans, so we’ve seen how some genre films have not pulled these things off. We wanted to tell an intriguing story, we wanted to have intriguing people—that was the first thing.
“But then I would be working on that aspect of it, and I would get a call in the middle of the night from my director,” Farmer continues, glancing over at the man himself,...

The Weinstein Company has debuted a batch of images for its new video game adaptation, Clock Tower, starring Brittany Snow. You can find them all in the gallery on this page, and we’ve got to admit they’re freakish – but in a good way. Our favourite is the human body being used as a bell clapper. Now there’s class! The film is currently being shot by The Hills Have Eyes II helmer Martin Weisz, and will feature elements from all the Clock Tower games, but takes its plot primarily from The Struggle Within, which... .

Last week we reported that Milla Jovovich would be toplining Senator Entertainment's Clock Tower, an adaptation of the popular video game. While at the taping of the 2008 Scream Awards, we caught up with the Ukrainian actress who tells us that she has passed on the script for the film, which is set to be directed by Martin Weisz next month. No word on whether or not Brittany Snow (Prom Night) is still attached. Another rumor hit our ears as we've been told that Val Kilmer is also circling the project, but slap a rumor stamp on that one until further notice. The story concerns a young woman who receives a disturbing phone call from her estranged mother warning her not to come home. When she investigates, she uncovers a terrible supernatural truth from her past.

A few days ago Bloody-Disgusting got wind that Milla Jovovich, uber-hottie-bad ass from "Resident Evil" was going to star in the upcoming "Clock Tower" adaptation. However it seems Ms. Jovovich isn't going to be in the film. According to Styd, they recieved words from Jovovich's online reps that Ms. Jovovich informed them she wasn't going to star in the film. "Clock Tower" is set to roll next month with Martin Weisz ("The Hills Have Eyes 2") at the helm and is scheduled to be released sometime next year....
