Exclusive: Ukrainian-Canadian-American filmmaker Vadim Perelman has inked with Artist International Group for management.
Perelman made his directorial debut in 2003 with House Of Sand And Fog, which went on to be nominated for three Oscars including Best Actor Ben Kingsley, Best Supporting Actress Shohreh Aghdashloo and Best Original Score James Horner.
The pic, which also starred Jennifer Connelly, repped Perlman’s first screenplay credit. Drawn to the story, having been shaped by his own immigrant experience, Perelman adapted the screenplay alongside Shawn Otto from Andre Dubus III’s international bestseller of the same name. DreamWorks acquired domestic distribution rights and released the film to great critical acclaim.
Perelman’s second feature film, The Life Before Her Eyes, starred Uma Thurman and Evan Rachel Wood. Also an adaptation, the pic followed a woman whose survivor’s guilt from a Columbine-like event twenty years ago causes her present-day idyllic life to fall apart.

James Franco has confirmed that he's planning an independently financed film adaptation of William Faulkner's 1929 classic novel "The Sound and the Fury"
Faulkner's work follows a group of Southern aristocrats who fall on hard times early in the 20th century.
Franco will direct and star in the film from a script he co-wrote with Matt Rager. The pair wrote Franco's recent adaptation of Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying" which premiered at Cannes this year.
Assuming scheduling issues can be worked out, "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm will play the family patriarch, Mr. Compson. Danny McBride is expected to have a role, while James' brother Dave Franco could be playing the suicidal Quentin Compson.
Shooting on 'Fury' aims to begin as early as this Fall. The news follows Franco's recent pulling out of directing an adaptation of Andre Dubus III's "The Garden of Last Days"

James Franco has exited The Garden of Last Days two weeks before shooting was due to begin on the film.
The project has seemingly collapsed with the exit of the star, who was also to direct the film.
Franco clashed with financier Millennium over the crew he wanted to hire, who did not have sufficient experience to meet the company's approval, reports Deadline.
$500,000 of the $3 million budget has already been spent on the project, which was scheduled to begin shooting on July 10.
The Garden of Last Days was adapted from the book by House of Sand and Fog author Andre Dubus III.
The tale explores the values of family and sex over a night set in a Florida strip club.
Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke had recently signed on to play a stripper who brings her 3-year-old daughter to work.

Two weeks before production was scheduled to start, James Franco has pulled out of the film adaptation of Andre Dubus III's contemporary thriller novel "Garden Of Last Days" at Millennium Entertainment.
As a result, the $3 million project has been shut down and won't proceed. Franco committed to both direct and star in the project late April, with $500,000 already spent on pre-production costs.
Based on the book by Andre Dubus III, the story follows three interwoven and ultimately explosive stories - a stripper and single mother, a lonely man who gets thrown out of the strip club, and a rich foreigner on the brink of committing a terrifying act.
Hanna Weg adapted the script and was to produce along with Gerard Butler, Alan Siegel, Danielle Robinson, Vince Jolivette and Miles Levy.

James Franco has dropped out as director and star of the indie drama "Garden of Last Days" just two weeks before production was scheduled to begin, citing "creative differences."
Deadline reports Franco departed the project over disagreement with financier Millennium Films. The dispute reportedly involves Franco's choices for certain crew positions.
"Last Days" is an adaptation of a novel by Andre Dubus III ("House of Sand and Fog") that follows three interwoven stories exploring the "seamy underside of American life." "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke was set to play the lead role of a stripper with a 3-year-old daughter.
Franco's exit recalls the dramatic departure of director Lynne Ramsay from the Natalie Portman Western "Jane Got a Gun" earlier this year. Ramsay was ultimately replaced by Gavin O'Connor ("Warrior") and the project stuck together (give or take a few key cast members).

Well, here's proof that James Franco is capable of walking away from a project. Just yesterday, dude dropped his 15-minute Gucci short film/advertainment thingy, but as for his next feature? Well, it's not going to be "Garden Of Last Days." Slated to start shooting in just a couple of weeks, Deadline reports that Franco has walked from the movie, effectively shutting it down, and leaving the $3 million dollar indie on ice. So what's the beef? Well, apparently, the crew Franco wanted to work with couldn't get insured/bonded and when backers Millenium Films wouldn't approve his team, the artiste said sayonara. So far $500,000 had been spent on the movie but now it's effectively dead, as Franco was both helmer and star. Emilia Clarke from "Game Of Thrones" had also been slotted for a role. The film would have been an adaptation based on the bestselling novel by Andre Dubus III...

Exclusive: What is it lately with directors walking off their own movies just before production starts? Two weeks before he was scheduled to begin production as director and star of Garden Of Last Days, James Franco pulled out of the film today. I’m told that effectively scraps a film that had $500,000 spent so far, a $3 million budget and a July 10 production start date. It’s the second time a filmmaker bailed late in the game, after Lynn Ramsay exited Jane Got A Gun hours before production was to start. That film held it together, but I’m told that this will shut down. Franco, currently in theaters in This Is The End, committed to direct and star in late April, just as he was preparing to unveil his latest film, As I Lay Dying screens in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. I’m hearing that Franco’s...

Cannes, France — James Franco's filmography is starting to look like a book shelf – and a very respectable one, at that.
The 35-year-old American has already played poets Allen Ginsberg ("Howl") and Hart Crane ("The Broken Tower"). He recently finished directing an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's "Child of God" (having first flirted with doing McCarthy's novel "Blood Meridian"), as well as a biopic of the late poet and novelist Charles Bukowski.
But this week at the Cannes Film Festival, he premiered his version of William Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying," a novel of fractured perspectives and enormous cinematic challenges. Having earlier screened at Cannes a short film he made as a student at New York University ("The Clerk's Tale"), coming to the festival in the Un Certain Regard section – for innovating or daring works by young talent – is something of a graduation for Franco.

Like just about everyone, I have many mixed feelings about James Franco. One of those feelings is wondering just how he can write, direct, and star in everything he comes into contact with. What has he taken on now? Directing an adaptation of The Garden Of Last Days. Who does he have to star in it? Emilia Clarke, best known as Daenerys Targaryen on Game Of Thrones.
The Garden Of Last Days is based on the book by Andre Dubus III, who also wrote House Of Sand And Fog. It tells the tale of a Florida stripper who happens to bring her daughter to work on the same day that she danced for several terrorists that were involved in 9/11. So once more, Emilia Clarke will take her clothes off for our edification, in the service of art. I’m certain that James Franco will be very appreciative.

"Futurama" may have just been cancelled for the second time in its humble run, but there are still a handful of episodes left to run on Comedy Central -- and one of them will include a very exciting guest voice.
"Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke will be heard in the second-to-last episode of the series, voicing a flower stand owner who was born who no sense of smell. "She falls in love with Dr. Zoidberg -- the smelliest character on Earth in the future -- but she can't smell him, so it's a match made in heaven," executive producer David X. Cohen tells EW. "However, being a doctor, he has the opportunity to perform a nose transplant and give her a sense of smell, which would destroy their romance, so it's a big dilemma."
"Futurama" is set to begin airing its final episodes on Wednesday, June 19 at 10 p.m.

Emilia Clarke, best known for playing the role of Daenerys Targaryen in HBO's "Game of Thrones," is making her way to the big screen. It's be reported that she will star in James Franco's upcoming directorial effort "The Gardens of Last Days."

James Franco has cast the lead in his adaptation of Andre Dubus III’s singularly intense novel “The Garden of Last Days,” and he had to go all the way to Westeros to find her: Emilia Clarke, who plays the dragon-loving Daenerys Targaryen on the smash HBO fantasy series “Game of Thrones,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. She will play a Florida stripper who brings her 3-year-old daughter to work with her on the fateful night that she ends up dancing for several of the terrorists who would be involved in 9/11. It’s unclear whether or not Franco is also writing the adaptation of the novel, but given his extensively hands-on approach, it’s probably safe to assume he won’t just write and direct but he’ll also co-star, cater and do costume design. Leather Bar.,” debuted at Sundance; his adaptation of “As I Lay Daying” premieres at Cannes next month; and oh yeah, he starred in “Oz the Great and Powerful” and “Spring Breakers” which both came out this past March. It would be news if he announced that he was going on vacation, but that is not the case here. He has added yet another project to his slate. Deadline has announced that Franco is set to direct and star in “The Garden of Last Days,” an adaptation based on the bestselling novel by Andre Dubus III (“House of Sand and Fog.”) The film, set in present day New York, will tell three interwoven stories: "a stripper out of options who brings her 3-year-old daughter to work; an angry, lonely man who gets thrown out...

Never one to rest when there are projects to be made (we like to imagine he’s had a special Franco Signal built to alert him when there’s a new assignment), James Franco is lining up his next directing gig, an adaptation filming Andre Dubus III’s The Garden Of Last Days.Dubus – whose House Of Sand And Fog was adapted for the screen in 2003 – published the book in 2009. Enigma writer Hanna Weg crafted the script, which is a modern-day thriller set in the criminal underbelly of America.Three stories warp and weave around each other, following a stripper who brings her three-year-old daughter to work, an angry, bitter man who is thrown out of the strip club and a foreigner on Us soil with a seemingly endless supply of cash and some dark intentions. Though the novel is set around the time of 9/11, Dubus has apparently given his...

Yet another project is in the works for James Franco! The 35-year-old actor-director-author-poet-creator extraordinaire will direct and star in Garden of Last Days, per Deadline. The flick, which is an adaptation of Andre Dubus III's book House of Sand, will begin shooting July 8 in New York. The contemporary thriller tells the story of a stripper, a troubled man who gets kicked out of the club and a foreigner about to commit a terrifying act. Although Dubus originally set the novel in the days surrounding Sept. 11, 2001, he gave his blessing for the film to take place in the present day. No word yet on which character Franco will be playing.

As usual, James Franco has an exceedingly long to-do list -- one that just got longer with the announcement that the 35-year-old jack-of-all-trades will direct and star in an adaptation of Andre Dubus III's novel "The Garden of Last Days."
"Garden" is Dubus' follow-up novel to the National Book Award finalist "House of Sand and Fog," which in 2003 became an Oscar-nominated movie starring Ben Kingsley and Shohreh Aghdashloo. "Garden," released in 2008, tells three interwoven stories set in Florida on the days before the Sept. 11 attacks, but Deadline Hollywood reports that Dubus has given the Ok to set the movie in modern-day New York instead.
Shooting for "Garden" begins in July in New York City, with the movie's script penned by Hannah Weg, who also co-wrote 2014's "Hercules 3D." Gerard Butler will produce alongside Alan Spiegel and Danielle Robinson ("Olympus Has Fallen," "Playing for Keeps").

Known bookish busybody James Franco is about to screen As I Lay Dying at Cannes, and he's also close to wrapping an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's Child of God. Now he's planning to helm and star in another novel-to-film effort, The Garden of Last Days, Andre Dubus III's 2009 follow-up to House of Sand and Fog. Per the book's description, it's about the intersection of "the lives of three deeply flawed, driven people" — one of whom is a stripper who brings her three-year-old daughter to work. In his new memoir, Townie (Blackstone Audio), Dubus discloses why he signed on as a boxer to protect himself and his three siblings and eventually turned to writing to save himself and his relationship with his father. In the excerpt below, Dubus recollects one Thanksgiving dinner where the broken family tried to put their differences and desolation aside. Listen to the podcast after the jump.

NEW YORK -- Aaron Ryder's Raygun Prods. is set to produce a big-screen adaptation of author Andre Dubus III's Bluesman for indie distributor Newmarket Films. The project marks the first feature Raygun will create for parent Newmarket, the distributor behind such recent rollouts as The Passion of the Christ and Monster. Newmarket principles William Tyrer and Chris Ball launched Raygun with Ryder late last year to feed Newmarket's pipeline while allowing Ryder to pursue producing opportunities outside the company fold.
