“White Lies,” a murder mystery series starring Natalie Dormer, has been acquired by Sundance Now for North America.
A collaboration between production company Quizzical Pictures and Pan-African broadcaster M-Net in partnership with Fremantle, “White Lies” is set in the wealthy Bishopscourt neighborhood in Cape Town, South Africa. Dormer (“Penny Dreadful: City of Angels”) stars as an investigative journalist called Edie Hansen alongside Brendon Daniels (“Four Corners”), who plays detective Forty Bell.

Adding to its growing roster of overseas drama titles, Germany’s Zdf Studios has snagged international distribution rights to “Clean Sweep,” a six-part Irish thriller which is set to premiere on Sundance Now and Irish public broadcaster RTÉ.
“Clean Sweep” stars Charlene McKenna, Captain Swing in “Peaky Blinders,” in a crime drama told from the point-of-view of the killer who is also, unusually, a self-sacrificing mother and wife. Filming is now underway.

The fact-based series stars local acting legend, Temuera Morrison and award-winning actress, Robyn Malcolm (“Top of the Lake”) as an everyday couple who foil an international crime ring’s largest ever deal in the Pacific.
The series was researched and created and is being directed by David White. The screenplay was written by White, Suli Moa and Mingjian Cui.

Film exec, producer and financier Mike Ilitch Jr. has pacted with Damascus Road Productions, led by Ryan and Heather O’Quinn for a slate of multiple upcoming films to be announced in the coming weeks. With Ilitch as executive producer, the O’Quinn’s company produced the upcoming “Paul’s Promise,” a biopic about former racist firefighter-turned-pastor Paul Holderfield at the height of the Civil Rights movement. Nick Logan also serves as executive producer.
The team, along with actor-director Dean Cain, recently wrapped production on “Little Angels,” about a 12-year-old girls’ soccer team.
“Inspiring audiences through entertainment has always been a goal for our companies,” said Ilitch. “The films on our slate have a broad budget range and extensive genres.”

AMC Networks’ streaming service Sundance Now has acquired the Us rights to Jungle Entertainment and Filthy Productions’ eight-part drama Bad Mothers from international distributor Red Arrow Studios International.
Starring Tess Haubrich, Mandy McElhinney, Jessica Tovey, and Shalom Brune-Franklin, Bad Mothers explores modern motherhood through the prism of four very different women as they juggle life’s big issues: love, family, careers, infidelity… and murder. Daniel MacPherson, Don Hany and Melissa George also star in the series, due to start streaming on Sundance Now May 7.

Mejlhede Andersen was appointed to the role in October 2019, having joined from his role as Evp and Chief Content Officer for Nent Group’s Viaplay streaming service. The Svod service has acquired ITV drama Manhunt, which stars Doc Martin’s Clunes as Detective Colin Sutton, the police officer who tenaciously pursued British serial killer Levi Bellfield.
The series, which is produced by Buffalo Pictures and written by Ed Whitmore (Silent Witness), has been picked up from distributor Drg and Acorn TV has taken exclusive North and South American rights.
The drama is the real life story of how the 2004 murder of French National Amelie Delagrange was eventually linked to the murders of Marsha McDonnell in 2003 and the abduction and murder of Milly Dowler as she travelled home from school in 2002. Sutton dedicated himself to finding Delagrange’s killer. With very little evidence, his painstaking approach and the diligence of his fellow officers gradually led to breakthroughs in the case.
