Respected British broadcaster Clive Myrie was removed at the last minute from presenting an edition of the BBC’s “News at Ten” last week, according to a report in the U.K.’s Times newspaper.
Myrie was replaced by Jane Hill as the news bulletin presenter on June 16 because BBC chief content officer Charlotte Moore had impartiality concerns regarding the ruling Conservative party, per the Times. Earlier that evening, Myrie had hosted the BBC’s “Have I Got News For You,” a satirical comedy quiz show that grills celebrity contestants on the week’s top stories and news, where he made several jokes about former Prime Minister Boris Johnson who had been found guilty of deliberately misleading the U.K. parliament over the ‘partygate’ scandal.
Myrie had opened the show saying: “After being found by the House of Commons committee to have lied repeatedly, Boris Johnson takes the opportunity to deny that...

Exclusive: The BBC News channel has lost 1M viewers in the UK after it was merged with BBC World News as part of the corporation’s efforts to slash costs.
BBC News’ audience reach in April stood at 9.7M viewers, according to figures published by Barb, the UK ratings body. This was down 9% from 10.7M in March and 23% from 12.6M in April 2022.
The 9.7M figure was comfortably BBC News’ worst audience reach in at least 16 months, though it is likely to be longer, given Barb’s figures only date back to December 2021.
BBC News remains the most-watched news network in the UK. Its closest rival is Sky News, which had a reach of 7.7M last month. New entrants Gb News and TalkTV posted audiences of 2.8M and 1.4M respectively.

BBC World News anchor Laura Trevelyan has announced that she is leaving the BBC after 30 years to play a role in uprooting the legacy of colonialism in the Caribbean.
Trevelyan’s decision comes just weeks after she apologized to the people of Grenada for her family’s links to slavery. “We apologize for the actions of our ancestors in holding your ancestors in slavery,” she said in a letter signed on February 27.
In a tweet today, the presenter of Emmy-winning show BBC World News America said she is leaving to join the “growing movement for reparatory justice for the Caribbean.”
A new chapter is starting for me. After thirty incredible years at the BBC, I’m leaving tomorrow – to join the growing movement for reparatory justice for the Caribbean. Thank you to my beloved colleagues and to our amazing audience. I couldn’t be more grateful to you all.

Exclusive: The BBC has told 10 of its most seasoned news anchors that they have lost their prestige presenting roles on the broadcaster’s rolling news channel.
Deadline can reveal that journalists including Jane Hill, Martine Croxall, and Ben Brown were informed yesterday that they will not be among the chief presenters on a relaunched BBC News channel.
The BBC is combining its international and domestic news channels into a single offering as the corporation bids to cut costs and reinvent its output for a digital age.
The merger has been rumbling on for months, but in a single day 10 presenters were effectively told that their services are not required when the merged channel launches around April. Jess Brammar, editor of the news channels, phoned around presenters to deliver the news.
Annita McVeigh, Geeta Guru-Murthy, and Shaun Ley are also among the unlucky presenters. Along with Croxall and Brown, they spend...

Exclusive: The BBC is set to replace the robot cameras in its news channel studio after a string of viral tech fails over the past decade.
The British broadcaster has begun the process of acquiring new automated cameras as it looks to reboot its news channel next year.
The BBC is merging its domestic and international rolling news channels into a single station, resulting in 70 job cuts.
Sources at the BBC said existing robot cameras were showing their age in Studio E, situated in the corporation’s New Broadcasting House headquarters.
Clips of the cameras going rogue often generate interest on social media, as they cut to empty chairs, spin away from presenters, or zoom in and out of shot as the autocue is being read.
The robotic cameras were introduced in 2013 as a way of saving money. Shots can be pre-programmed, meaning camera operators are not required.
“They are driven by automation codes,...

"Great LezBritian" is a fortnightly stroll through the very best of British lesbo-centric entertainment and culture. Plus there will be some jolly good interviews with the top ladies who are waving the flag for gay UK.
A couple of columns ago we wrote about the British women we wish were gay, which gave rise to much debate and informed us that our readers lust after and loathe Cheryl Cole in equal amounts. We decided that in this column we’d like to celebrate the British ladies we’re glad actually are gay or bisexual, which has been an unexpectedly tricky task.
Once again we sent out a Tweet asking you to suggest your favourite Britbians, and as the land that proffered Skins, Tipping the Velvet and Bad Girls, we were certain that Britain would have so many options that we’d be tossing second tier choices out of the list...

Happy 2010! Did you miss us?
I have to share this awesome tidbit with you, because AfterEllen.com reader Jerry shared it with me. Slasher film actress Tucky Williams (Dead Moon Rising, Shadows Light) is writing and starring in a new lesbian web series, Girl/Girl Scene.
Tucky as Evan — the new Shane?
The actress (who says she loves Tegan and Sara) said of the series: "Once The L Word was canceled, it left this huge hole in the market. We're filling that need, and them some. Girl/Girl Scene is raunchier, grittier, and sexier. I wanted to see a show that depicted what life was like for me and my friends — queers who have thrown heteronormativity out the window and never looked back." Wait, you mean this isn't The Real L Word?
Here's a fun puzzle for L Word and Queer as Folk fans, courtesy of PuzzleHub. I don't see Papi on there,...
