Would you agree if I said that cinema, as a medium, is the strongest one that an artist can use for their expression? Because how else would you make sense out of the existence of something like director Jack James’ Wild Bones? I hope you are here after experiencing this fever dream of a movie. You should understand what I am talking about. There can be two ways Wild Bones can be described. One of those is that the movie is a manifestation of someone’s personal trauma. That someone could be the director himself, or maybe someone close to him. The other would be the director drawing inspiration from the worlds of auteurs like David Lynch or Peter Strickland and presenting a grim tale of his own in an intentionally erratic, non-linear manner.
As you would expect from movies of this kind, the narrative takes a backseat here. There...

Shant Joshi’s Los Angeles and Toronto-based company Fae Pictures (2023 Cannes title “In Flames”) has boarded Cape Town-based company Giant Films’ “Runs in the Family.”
Fae will executive produce and handle the festival launch of the LGBTQ+ road trip family drama, a clip for which has been unveiled. The film is by real-life father-son duo Ian Gabriel (“Ludik”) and Gabe Gabriel (“No Hiding Here”). Ian directed and Gabe wrote and stars in “Runs in the Family.” The film marks Gabe’s first professional role since he came out as trans in 2019.
The film follows a reformed con artist, Varun (Ace Bhatti), and his transmasculine son, River (Gabe Gabriel), on a road trip across South Africa to break River’s estranged mother (Diaan Lawrenson) out of rehab. When injury befalls Ollie (Cleo Wesley), River’s drag partner and best friend, his mother propels father and son to partner up for a...

It all comes down to the final battle, spearheaded by Vignette, Leonora, the Black Raven, and the New Dawn.
But first, Leonora and all sides planned their attack methods on Carnival Row Season 2 Episode 9.
Many secrets were revealed during the series's penultimate episode, and many were exposed partly due to Tourmaline's powers.
We learned something new about her powers: she can prevent Darius from transforming.
This excited Darius, as transforming is not something he can control.
Tourmaline's powers transformed throughout the season, and even though the magic she inherited was dark, we're happy she could find some good use for it.
She embraced the dark side of her magic while still trying her best not to let it affect her soul.
At the end of the penultimate episode, she purposefully triggered her power to see through the Sparas' eyes, where she discovered its identity.
The Sparas turned out to be Major Vir,...

The prospect of the return home drove the Black Raven to (seemingly) attack their own and team up with an unlikely ally.
Carnival Row Season 2 Episode 7 saw a deal, brokered by Philo with Millworthy, to send the Fae back to Tirnanoc since the Pact started retreating.
But, nothing turned out the way Vignette and Philo planned, and more bloodshed occurred in the process.
Vignette and Philo seem to be done for good romantically and only work together as a means to an end of repression.
The war also made significant advancements throughout the two hours, with the Pact taking more losses than expected (don't underestimate the New Dawn).
Tourmaline's vision also had a chance of not coming true, with the prospect of returning to Tirnanoc becoming her saving grace. If she's not in the place where she dies in her vision, she won't die, right?

Premiering in 2019, Prime Video’s fantasy series Carnival Row was quickly renewed for a second season before the first episode ever hit the streaming service. Then, the pandemic hit. Almost four years later, the second season is finally here, but it also serves as the final chapter in the Victorian-set drama of fairies, witches, and more. With the star power of Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne in the lead, the series is set to deliver a cohesive conclusion for fans of this world and story.
Season two of Carnival Row (read our review) continues the battle between humans and the Fae as a new threat appears, potentially starting an all-out war between the disparate factions in the Burgue. While Philo investigates bodies appearing with connections to the Row, Vignette continues to align herself with the Black Raven. The ten-episode season brings everything to an epic confrontation that will change the...

Plot: With humans and fae folk divided and freedom on the line, each hero will face impossible dilemmas and soul-defining tests in the epic conclusion of Carnival Row.
Review: When Carnival Row premiered almost four years ago, I gave it a solid review based on the episodes I had seen. With quality production values and vivid mythology, I found the steampunk-inspired story to be intriguing. Most critics were not so kind, and, despite a quick second season renewal, the delays brought about by the pandemic also meant the sophomore season would be it’s last. While the final season of Carnival Row is two episodes longer than the first, the gap in between has allowed this season to broaden its scope and deliver a fairly epic conclusion to the story of the fictional country known as The Burgue and the war between humans and the supernatural beings that reside in the titular slum.

Last month, Comixology Originals debuted the new 4-issue series Cold Iron, a supernatural thriller steeped in Celtic mythology, created by English writer Andy Diggle and Scottish artist Nick Brokenshire (featuring colors by Triona Farrell and letters by Simon Bowland). With issue 2 having just been released, we have an exclusive look at some of Nick Brokenshire's preliminary character art, along with a Q&a, where he talks about the characters and artwork:
"Celtic folklore and modern moxie collide as an ancient pact between worlds is broken. The sinister forces of Faerie have slipped their shackles, and the Black Dog walks abroad this night…
On the rural Isle of Man, aspiring singer-songwriter Kay Farragher dreams of escaping her humdrum life. But she’s about to get more than she bargained for – and some bargains are not to be trusted...
