In April, you can stay and hang around with y’us — with Alice Cooper. The rock ‘n’ roll legend and “Wayne’s World” alum is joining NBC’s Easter Sunday production of “Jesus Christ Superstar Live!” He’ll play the flamboyant King Herod in the rock opera about the final week of the Son of God’s life. Also signing on for the live TV musical is director David Leveaux, who is a five-time Tony Award nominee. “Alice Cooper, whose theatricality is the stuff of legend, is the perfect rock star to play Herod in our live production,” said Robert Greenblatt,...

Bugsy Malone and Evita director discussed his career during a Brussels European Film Forum masterclass.
Acclaimed UK director Alan Parker discussed his career during a masterclass at the European Film Forum in Brussels last Friday [Dec 2].
Parker was in typically lively form as he looked back over a career that saw him direct 14 features, many of which were box office hits. The veteran filmmaker confirmed that he is now fully retired, with no intention to direct any further films.
“It is really the most difficult thing in the world to get a film financed and it is a very debilitating thing to do it,” Parker said. “One of the reasons I stopped making films was because of that. I used to love the camaraderie of the film set, I used to love writing films but trying to get the money…”

The Phantom of the Opera: The Motion Picture
Written by Gerry O’Hara and Duke Sandefur
Directed by Dwight H. Little
United States, 1989
Nearly 30 years went by since the 1962 Hammer Films production of The Phantom of the Opera until the ghoulish fiend made his way back onto the silver screen. An interesting turning point for the property, if it can be described as such, came in 1986, when arguably the most popular interpretation of the story ever graced not the movie theatres but rather the opera houses. Andrew Lloyd Weber’s sensational stage adaptation was all the craze in the 1980s and is still recognized as a tremendous success and achievement today. As such, it was only natural that filmmakers would want to pounce on the popularity of the title and produce yet another version, to say nothing of the fact that the rights had gone into the public domain by 1989. Enter producer Menahem Golan,...

Growing up, I was a huge Freddy Krueger fan. I had also become infatuated with Gaston Leroux’s novel, The Phantom of the Opera, which made me a pretty easy mark for Dwight H. Little’s (Halloween 4) 1989 film based on the popular work of fiction. Focusing more on the horror contained within Leroux’s original story, this version is a wickedly ghastly and blood-soaked tale of obsession that allows Robert Englund the room to do what he does best as a performer- go nuts. And after recently checking out the Scream Factory Blu-ray, it was great to see just how well Little’s inventive adaptation has held up over time and how much fun the film still remains, despite its age.

The exes began dating in 2007, and in the years that followed, they separated and reconciled multiple times. "It was a mutual decision. The long distance kept them apart for long periods of time," a source tells the U.K.'s The Daily Mail. "They both spent most of their time alone because they were in different countries all the time. Nicole is heartbroken and devastated." Scherzinger, who currently stars in London's West End revival of Andrew Lloyd Weber's musical Cats, primarily resides in L.A., while Lewis is based in...

In the summer of 1998, as part of my high school's drama club, I made my first trip to New York City. Over the course of seven days, I saw eight musicals, both on and Off-Broadway. While I was already a devout musical theatre fan, seven of those eight solidified my love for the art form, while one left me cold, and slightly angry. That show was The Phantom Of The Opera. I have spent the past 16 years saying that Andrew Lloyd Weber and Charles Hart's musical was the worst Broadway or touring show that I have ever seen. So, when it was announced that its newly reimagined staging would be the first touring production to grace Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, I was honestly hopeful that as I aged, my appreciation for the longest running show in Broadway history would have as well and I am...

Toast of London
The brainchild of Matt Berry and Father Ted co-creator Arthur Matthews, Toast of London largely flew under the radar when it aired on Channel 4 last autumn. With the second series soon upon us, there's no better time than now to take a look back at the funniest sitcom you've probably never heard of.
Berry, a veteran of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and The It Crowd, takes on the lead role of Steven Toast, a British thespian whose best days are long behind him. A vain and egotistical actor, he's at rock bottom thanks to a divorce (Amanda Donohue crops up as his ex-wife) and a starring role in a play that's so offensive the public want to see him dead.

Theatre Review: ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ Returns With Ingénue Julia Udine, Enigmatic Cooper Grodin
Chicago – The Phantom in one word? An enigma. But he’s so much more. He’s lonely, desperately in love, a musical genius, misunderstood, vengeful, afraid and angry at a world that was so cruel to him. His shining beacon out of the darkness is his music – and falling for Christine. But The Phantom has to try to force her to feel the same way. He doesn’t want your pity. He just wants to be musical, loved and understood.
Play Rating: 4.5/5.0

To celebrate its 50th birthday this month, Andrew talks us through 50 great Doctor Who scenes...
Doctor Who, what with being the greatest thing ever and all, has its fair share of great scenes. You could – and people have – write a list of one great scene per story. There are thousands to choose from. Here, we have a list of fifty in no particular order. The criteria is simply that we enjoy them.
Because we all know about 'Do I have the right?' and 'I'm not going to let you stop me now', I've also tried finding moments from less popular episodes just to give them some love. No story is completely without merit (Even Timeflight has Khalid) and like it or not, Time and the Rani happened, so we're all just going to have to deal with it.
So, here's a selection of fifty great scenes.

With his wife due to give birth at any time, Prince William eased his jitters by playing in a polo match against his brother Prince Harry on Saturday (July 13) at the Hampshire estate composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber.
The handsome father-to-be came out in support of his charity Tusk Trust and Harry's Sentebale organization, which helps disadvantaged kids in Lesotho.
Even though his younger brother pulled out a last minute victory, the Duke of Cambridge was in good spirits according to Charlie Mayhew, the chief executive of Tusk.
"We weren't expecting William to be here, it was a lovely surprise. He was on really good form," he said, adding, "He seemed incredibly relaxed, enjoying his polo – just the same as he ever is. He clearly enjoyed the game. It was a tie right up until the last minute when Prince Harry scored."

Though Butler tests his boundaries in his latest film Olympus Has Fallen, both producing the film and starring as Mike Banning, a former Secret Service Agent who pretty much single-handedly takes on a group of terrorists who have hijacked the White House. Previously on Pretty Little Liars, Hanna flashed back to the time when Alison flashed back to the time when she murdered her twin sister because she was tired of sharing a Barbie Glam Convertible with her. Later, Alison was murdered by everyone in the greater Philadelphia area who possessed the ability to grasp a field hockey stick. Emily fell in love with Paige, who was summarily kidnapped, bound, gagged, re-closeted, and almost knifed to death by Maya's former drug camp stalker, Cousin Nate. But Emily killed him instead, so that score, at least, was settled. Hanna tried to stay away from Caleb because her lot in life is to either hit or be hit with a car once every moon cycle, but his hobo hair is like a siren song, and she continued to crash herself against him.

But Emily killed him instead, so that score, at least, was settled. Hanna tried to stay away from Caleb because her lot in life is to either hit or be hit with a car once every moon cycle, but his hobo hair is like a siren song, and she continued to crash herself against him.

After a few of years since the last major effort (the ill-fated "Nine"), the live-action movie musical is back again, with two starry efforts due this year about as far away from each other as you can get. This Christmas will see the terribly serious-looking "Les Miserables" hit theaters, with a star-studded cast including Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway. But first is "Rock of Ages," which arrives in theaters tomorrow, with another A-list ensemble including Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Musicals have given serious career boosts to stars like Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere, Nicole Kidman and Eddie Murphy in recent years, but if you pick the wrong project, or are more self-confident about your pipes than you should be, it's also the best way to embarass yourself completely. In honor of Alec Baldwin's tone-deaf belting in "Rock of Ages," we've collected five of our...

Overflowing with enthusiasm and energy, the true star of the 2012 Tony Awards was unquestionably three-time host and affable Broadway spokesman extraordinaire Neil Patrick Harris, doing what he does best - namely, being the host with the most. Whether web-slinging behind Angela Lansbury and Ted Chapin or leading a spectacular production number with Patti LuPone and a lawnmower, Harris proved yet again why is he is the best in the biz at this sort of thing - well, right up there along with Hugh Jackman, at least. Speaking of whom, in addition to a goosebump-inducing trailer for the forthcoming Tom Hooper-directed film adaptation of the Broadway sensation Les Miserables, Hugh Jackman was featured on the Tony Awards telecast and personally on hand to receive a well-earned special Tony Award for his many fundraising successes over the course of his three-show Broadway career, as was crossover superstar Bernadette Peters who took...

I have been listening to Comedy Bang Bang for years. The essential podcast, originally titled after the comedy show Comedy Death Ray, is run by host Scott Aukerman. Over the years, Aukerman has gotten scores of the best comedians around to come on his show, both as themselves and as characters. The result? Aural pleasure that will have you laughing out loud on the subway like a crazy person.
I was thrilled with the announcement that IFC had picked up the podcast to turn into a television show. Aukerman, along with "band leader" Reggie Watts, bring their own dose of surrealism, irreverence and fresh comedy to the show along with many of your favorite actors and comedians. I'll post the review of that soon (Spoiler Alert: It's Great).
I had to really calm myself before I interviewed Aukerman, due to the fact that I might accidentally propose marriage or offer...

Harold And Maude (Criterion) Hal Ashby’s masterpiece of black humor centers on a wealthy young man (Bud Cort) who’s obsessed with death and the septuagenarian (Ruth Gordon) with whom he finds true love. As unabashedly romantic as it is quirky, with Cat Stevens supplying one of the great film scores of all-time. Fine support from Vivian Pickles, Cyril Cusack, Charles Tyner, and Ellen Geer. Fine screenplay by Colin Higgins. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Commentary by Hal Ashby biographer Nick Dawson, producer Charles Mulvehill; Illustrated audio excerpts from seminars by Ashby and Higgins; Interview with Cat Stevens. Widescreen. Dolby 2.0 stereo.
In Darkness (Sony) Agnieszka Holland’s Ww II epic tells the true story of a sewer worker and petty thief in Nazi-occupied Poland who single-handedly helped hide a group of Jews in the city’s labyrinthine sewer system for the duration of the war.

This Tuesday marked the second most exciting day of any given year for Broadway babies - the Tony Award nominations. The actual awards ceremony on CBS - Broadways night of nights - is still a few weeks off, but now is certainly an ideal time to size up the competitions and see who will most likely walk away with Tony gold come June 10 - and this years ceremony, more than most before, could very well be as surprising as this season was or Tuesdays nominations themselves were, for that matter. While the 2011-2012 Broadway season certainly fell far short of the heady promise many ascribed to its prospects way back last Summer, we certainly saw the fulfillment of some big dreams for some notable names if not an all-in-all banner year for Broadway when collectively considered. The highly-praised Off-Broadway critical darling Lysistrata Jones landed with a thud early in the season,...

The show is a revival of the 1978 Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber production starring theater legends Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin. In the preview released by The Hollywood Reporter Martin takes on Patinkin's role as Che, a peasant working in protest of the Argentinian government during the 1950s. Evita is back on Broadway in a grande way - with the ticket sales and stage door insanity to prove it. While last nights Michael Grandage-directed revival of the classic Tony Award-winning Andrew Lloyd WebberTim Rice rock opera was met with generally positive plaudits, the centerpiece of conversation - from the stage last night to the page this morning - is the pop idol portraying the lead male role of Che - Puerto Rican Grammy-winning superstar Ricky Martin. While authenticity is the buzz word when it comes to almost all aspects of this more naturalism based production, an actual Argentinean playing Eva Peron with the accent to match is an added bonus in a studiously researched production that more closely resembles Alan Parkers 1996 film version in its clear, clean style than Hal Princes original 1979 metaphorical political play rife with symbols. Though some reviewers did not warm to Martin in the title role,...

Osmond and I recount many of his marvelous show business memories in this all-inclusive chat, putting a particular emphasis on his theatre roles - most of all, his work in the film version of Andrew Lloyd Webbers Joseph amp The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, filmed in 1999 and presented next week in a super-special Sing-a-Long showing with an exclusive live QampA hosted by Osmond in Fathom-equipped movie theaters nationwide on March 26.
