American Idol winners don’t always stay with their record label as they navigate their music careers, and now, another one has done likewise. Some of them like Maddie Poppe were devasted to lose their record label. Meanwhile, others get dropped or changed because they make mistakes like Laine Hardy.

After dropping out of the “American Idol” finale at the last minute, Arthur Gunn has spoken out about his decision to leave the show.
Gunn was set to perform with Sheryl Crow on Sunday’s finale, but after the “Idol” contestant allegedly refused to come out of his trailer five minutes before the show, producers were forced to swap in Season 19 finalist Graham DeFranco, who was sitting in the audience.
After the seemingly unrehearsed medley of Crow’s “Everyday Is A Winding Road” and “If It Makes You Happy,” judge Lionel Richie confessed that they didn’t “even know what happened.”
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Gunn vaguely opened up about the “unpleasant environmental experiences” that caused him to ditch the “Idol” finale.
“Well, let’s just say I missed my opportunity to sing with legendary [Sheryl Crow],” Gunn wrote. “What happened is not much to discuss at this point. I...

American Idol fans were thrown for a loop when Arthur Gunn exited the ABC reality series in a last-minute decision.
He was set to perform with the incomparable Sheryl Crow on the season finale, but producers had to do some quick thinking to salvage the finale.
In a move that stunned fans everywhere, the series opted to bring in Season 19 finalist Graham DeFranco as his replacement.
The move was met with ire from the show’s fans, especially given that DeFranco was only in the audience to support his friend Chayce Beckham.
Shedding light on the development, Gunn took to Instagram Monday with an explanation on the matter.
“Well, let’s just say I missed my opportunity to sing with legendary [Sheryl Crow]. What happened is not much to discuss at this point,” Gunn shared.
“I would like to make it up and invite [Crow] to perform couple of songs on the July 30th at @thecotillion,...

Arthur Gunn has broken his silence about why he was a no-show at Sunday’s American Idol season finale.
The Season 18 contestant had been booked to perform a duet of “Every Day Is a Winding Road” and “If It Makes You Happy” with Sheryl Crow on ABC’s live show but bowed out at the last minute. Top 16 contestant Graham DeFranco performed in Gunn’s place, but no reason was given.
Late Monday, alongside a photo of a mural that reads “Aspire to inspire others and the universe will take note,” Gunn posted a lengthy statement on Instagram, citing “personal morals” and “unpleasant environmental experiences” for his absence.

During Sunday’s three-hour finale of “American Idol,” host Ryan Seacrest cryptically mentioned how Graham DeFranco had to fill in at the last second to sing with superstar Sheryl Crowe. But what viewers didn’t realize is that Graham had replaced Arthur Gunn, who was a no-show.
When asked about what happened with Gunn, judge Katy Perry simply called the controversy another “curveball” for this buzzed-about 19th season. It’s likely she was referring to two other singers who had exited the competition off-camera during the live shows: Wyatt Pike for personal reasons and Caleb Kennedy when a controversial video resurfaced.

Early on in the season finale of Sunday night’s (May 23) episode of “American Idol,” judge Luke Bryan informed fellow country singer Chayce Beckham he earned the ultimate prize: a chance for the two of them to go fishing.
“Win or lose, we’re going bass fishing,” Bryan said.
Those plans are now on hold, as the 24-year old Apple Valley, California resident was crowned the show’s 2021 victor.
“Your world is about to change,” judge Katy Perry told the now former forklift driver, who’ll release music via BMG and is Nashville bound.
Beckham was an early favorite in auditions after wowing the judges with a performance of ‘What Brings Life Also Kills” by Kolton Moore and the Clever Few, prompting Perry to remark he sounded like “the heart of America.”

“American Idol” is just one week away from the season 19 final. On Sunday, May 16 the T0p 4 — Chayce Beckham, Casey Bishop, Grace Kinstler and Willie Spence — will sing three songs apiece: a personal tribute, a duet produced by guest mentor Finneas; and their winner’s single. There was to be a fifth semifinalist, Caleb Kennedy. After video surfaced in which he was sitting next to a man in a white hood, he left the show.
The producers opted not to invite back one of the Top 7 contestants — Arthur Gunn or Hunter Metts — who was eliminated last Sunday. It would have been the second comeback this season for Gunn. The season 18 runner-up earned his spot in the Top 10 by winning the Comeback Special, which aired on April 19.
Below, follow along with all the action in our live blog recap of Night 17 Season 19 episode of “American Idol” and find out which two contestants were eliminated.

In the wake of Caleb Kennedy‘s shocking ouster from “American Idol” Season 19, fans are hoping the reality TV show brings back a former contestant who was just voted off last weekend: Hunter Metts. This 22-year-old singer-songwriter from Franklin, Tennessee was sent home during the Top 7 episode (along with Arthur Gunn) when he received the lowest number of votes for his Coldplay and Mother’s Day songs. A whopping 62% of viewers thought Hunter was robbed of a spot in the Top 5. But with Caleb now gone from the competition, a slot has potentially opened up. Vote in our poll below if you think Hunter should take Caleb’s place.

“American Idol” is down to the Top 5 after Sunday’s night show ended with the shocking elimination of Arthur Gunn and Hunter Metts. Grace Kinstler enjoyed an early lead in our “American Idol” winner predictions for season 19. Before the Top 10 sang on May 2, she had successfully fought off a challenge from another fan favorite, Willie Spence. He’d be only the second Black man to win this talent competition (Ruben Studdard took the season 2 title over Clay Aiken way back in 2003).
But Grace and Willie now face a strong new challenger for the season 19 championship: Arthur Gunn. The season 18 runner-up was thrown a lifeline by producers who invited him to compete for a spot in the Top 10 on the Comeback Special on April 19. He joined nine other also-rans from season 18 who sang for America’s votes. He won this coveted slot with his cover of “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls.

These lucky seven won enough votes from America last week to continue on in the competition. They were part of the Top 10 who crooned songs from Disney animated classics on May 2. All of them but one were culled from the Top 12 who performed Oscar-nominated songs on April 18. Joining them in the Top 10 was Gunn, the winner of the Comeback Special, which aired on April 19. He was the season 18 runner-up to Just Sam last May.

Ever since Gold Derby opened its “American Idol” predictions center in mid-April, Grace Kinstler and Willie Spence have appeared in either the first or second positions on our winner’s chart. They keep flip-flopping week to week as more readers make their predictions. Well, Grace is now back on top as the front-runner to win after her “Into The Unknown” cover on Disney night (watch above). Her powerful rendition of the “Frozen 2” song ended the show last weekend and earned raves from the judges. If these current predictions hold, that means Grace will receive the coveted confetti shower when the Season 19 finale airs May 23.

Willie Spence headed into Disney Night as the clear frontrunner in our “American Idol” winner predictions for season 19. He had overtaken early favorite Grace Kinstler in our poll and was widely expected to become the second Black man to win this talent competition (Ruben Studdard took the season 2 title over Clay Aiken way back in 2003). But while Willie (and Grace) made it into the Top 7, they face a new challenger for the season 19 championship: Arthur Gunn.
This talented singer/songwriter fell short in season 18 of “American Idol,” losing a close vote in the final to Just Sam. But Gunn was thrown a lifeline by the producers who invited him and nine other also-rans from season 18 back to compete for one slot in the season 19 Top 10. They all got to sing one song on a special episode that aired on April 19.

American Idol is throwing a major curveball at its Season 19 contestants: Only nine of them will advance to the Top 10 later this spring, with the final spot going to a contestant from last season.
ABC announced Monday that 10 singers from Season 18 — including runner-up Arthur Gunn — will return to Idol and compete for a spot in the current season’s Top 10. As executive producer and showrunner Trish Kinane told Billboard, the show wanted to give Season 18’s contestants a chance to perform on the big Idol stage, after the coronavirus pandemic forced live shows to happen remotely from singers’ homes last year.

“American Idol” was renewed for its 19th season in May — its fourth on ABC — days before host Ryan Seacrest crowned 21-year-old Harlem-based subway singer Just Sam as the show’s 18th winner.
Because of Covid-19, production on Season 18 shut down, but “Idol” managed to complete the season by doing virtual at-home shows with the remaining seven contestants performing partially live. By the end, it was between Nepalese-American guitarist and singer Arthur Gunn and Just Sam, whose renditions of Kelly Clarkson‘s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and Audra Day‘s “Rise Up” won the most votes and America’s heart.

American Idol is eschewing its live casting roadshow for a virtual tour.

It will start August 10 with remote auditions taking place across all 50 states plus Washington, DC. It will run through September 9. Contestants, who must be between 15 and 28, can sign up online.

The housebound edition of the 18th finale show of “American Idol” was more subdued than usual given that the final five hopefuls announced at the top of the show — Arthur Gunn, Dillon James, Just Sam, Francisco Martin and Johnny West — had no live audience cheering them on save for judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan and a coterie of family and friends at remote locales. Usually they can feed off the electricity of a packed auditorium of “Idol” fans, swaybots included. But the restrictions of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic muffled what is usually a rather boisterous celebration of music and talent that ends with the season’s competitors hugging each other and honoring the new “American Idol” with an explosion of confetti and good wishes.
Alas, because of the country’s continued need to shelter in place, this last show of the year was not being broadcast live nationwide.
