A few main cast members have left ABC‘s The Rookie over five seasons. Mercedes Mason, who played Zoe Andersen, and Afton Williamson, who played Talia Bishop, exited the series during and after the first season. But the most heartbreaking departure came when The Rookie killed off Titus Makin Jr.’s character Jackson West in the season 4 premiere.

The Rookie introduced Titus Makin Jr.’s character Jackson West during the series premiere. He, Nathan Fillion’s John Nolan, and Melissa O’Neil’s Lucy Chen were all rookies assigned to the Mid-Wilshire station in the LAPD. Jackson’s training officer was Angela Lopez, and the two developed a close friendship over their time together.
Jackson also trained in the academy alongside Nolan and Chen, so they had a close bond.

ABC‘s The Rookie is notorious for featuring villains that always seem to pop up at random moments. From Elijah Stone to Rosalind Dyer, some bad guys just can’t remain locked up in prison. And it sounds like The Rookie Season 5 Episode 15, “The Con,” will include the return of another criminal — Abril Rodas.

John Nolan’s love life in ABC‘s The Rookie has been nothing short of a rollercoaster since the pilot. He moved to Los Angeles after divorcing the mother of his son, started a relationship with Lucy Chen, which swiftly ended when they began their training, and he went on to date a couple more women before meeting Bailey Nune. And while Nolan and Bailey are engaged in The Rookie Season 5, the signs point toward another breakup for Nathan Fillion’s character.

This year, several actors bid farewell to their TV show. Some left for personal reasons, while others were trying other acting opportunities.
Certain shows paid respect to those actors and their actors and wrote them a satisfying character exit, such as Matt Casey on Chicago Fire.
Others got the short end of the stick like Mina Okafor on The Resident or Michael Grant on 911.
Scroll down to find out which characters made our best and worst list of satisfying character exits.
Nic Nevin (The Resident)-Best
Many fans are still devastated by this departure, and it's understandable. Nic was almost as integral to the series as Conrad himself, and CoNic is one of those iconic ships that will be in our hearts forever.
However, Emily VanCamp decided she wanted to leave the series, perhaps to spend time with her family, before the new season, and The Resident came up with the best solution.

Despite the chaos of The Rookie Season 4 Episode 1, on The Rookie Season 4 Episode 2, it seemed like the team was back to regular business.
This episode had a special guest star, Tricia Helfer! She always seems to be popping up in all of our favorite shows now and then. Of course, she was as charming as always!
As the episode unraveled, the division gained a new rookie. Usually, this would be exciting though said rookie carries a significant burden on his shoulders at all times.
It seems like The Rookie wants to keep reminding the audience that they didn't forget about Jackson West. The opening scene of this episode was an awkward conversation about what color to paint his room.
Tamara moved into West's old room in Chen's apartment; it seemed like Nolan was enlisted to help paint the walls against his will. Maybe he owed Chen a favor? Who truly knows.

It was a tough one, but The Rookie Season 4 Episode 1 was a ride worth watching.
The fourth season premiere had excitement and peril at each turn -- from finding out who murdered Jackson West to the team discovering the whereabouts of Angela Lopez.
La Fiera is one bitter lady who will stop at nothing to get her sweet taste of revenge.
We left off The Rookie Season 3 with Lopez snatched from her wedding. Despite how cliche that plot is, we can't help but love it. It's TV! Why give a happy ending to a character when you can ruin the best day of their life?
That was partially sarcasm.
We wish that Lopez and Wesley could have a few moments as a married couple before all hell broke loose. Unfortunately, though, it seems like that may have been too much to ask.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Rookie, Season 4, Episode 1, “Life and Death.”] The Rookie is back and answering a lot of questions in its fourth season premiere set moments after Season 3’s kidnapping cliffhanger. So, what exactly happened when Lopez (Alyssa Diaz) was picked up by drug queenpin Sandra “La Fiera” De La Cruz (Camille Guaty)? Jackson West (Titus Makin Jr.) was also scooped up with Lopez being put in one car while he was fatally shot in the back and dumped in the trunk of another. With no time to mourn the loss of their fellow officer, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil), and Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) suit up as part of a breach team, to help rescue their missing team member. Unfortunately, Lopez has been moved to a second location by the time they find the car that took her from the wedding. (Credit: ABC/Raymond Liu) Thankfully,...

The Rookie was back with what felt like a regular installment, and that's not a bad thing.
The Rookie Season 3 Episode 8 didn't feel as though it was filmed around Covid-19 restrictions, and it wasn't putting the spotlight on racial injustice and prejudice in law enforcement.
Not that any of the above didn't make for captivating TV. I've applauded many of the episodes this season that took those subjects seriously and incorporated them into engrossing storylines. But there was almost a sense of nostalgia in getting back to a basic, crime of the week type of show.
Det. Angela Lopez was in charge of a high-profile kidnapping case that brought Oscar Hutchinson, the man who stabbed Wesley, back into her orbit.
Thankfully, Lopez showed part of the intelligence and control that helped her earn that new detective shield when she put Nolan and Harper in charge of dealing with Oscar.

Officer John Nolan is no longer known as the oldest rookie. Well, he's not only known as the oldest rookie.
Other cops refer to him as the "trouble magnet" and with reason, as Nolan was taken hostage on The Rookie Season 3 Episode 5.
But the hostage situation and ensuing lockdown felt like filler compared to the real drama going on between Officers Stanton and Jackson West.
Don't get me wrong, a huge bomb in a truck outside of a police station would normally feel like the focal point of any installment. But we knew that the odds of Nolan being killed or the bomb going off and destroying the station was slim to none, so it was difficult to drum up a lot of concern.
Jackson's situation was much different. He was willing to put it all on the line to get a racist, dangerous cop off the street.

Grey’s blessing and counsel, West (played by Titus Makin) continued riding with Stanton (Brandon Routh) as his To, provided that available allies join in on any radio calls that could turn problematic due to Stanton’s racist attitudes and aggressive tactics. But when Jackson, during one such call, left evidence unattended for fear...

After Nick Armstrong is outed as a dirty cop, the LAPD looks to make changes on The Rookie Season 3 Episode 2.
But are those changes real or just surface-level adjustments meant to give the impression of positive change?
That all depends upon the cop in question.
When you are talking about Officer John Nolan, there's no question his heart is in the right place. Nolan's desire to help is practically ingrained in his DNA, but that doesn't mean he gets it right.
Nolan has lived most, if not all, of his life in a safe, mostly white, middle-class neighborhood, and that's the lens through which he sees the world.
That's what made this storyline somewhat predictable, Still, I can't say it wasn't entertaining as Nolan immediately tried to fix problems that he had no foundation for understanding, like the reason why the park was locked.
Every time Nolan tried to make things better,...

After anxiously holding onto the edge of our seats for eight long months to discover whether or not Officer John Nolan will be able to prove he's not a dirty cop, we finally have our answer.
Either way, we knew Nolan's actions would have consequences that affect the rest of his career and life, not to mention the series's trajectory.
Detective Nick Armstrong proved to be one slippery bastard. Still, we always expected that Nolan would find a way to prove himself innocent in the eyes of the LAPD; we just didn't know how until The Rookie Season 3 Episode 1.
As we suspected, Lucy and Jackson both believed in Nolan, and Jackson's questioning of Armstrong's story was spot on.
Jackson: You said that Nolan came to your house to kill you.
Armstrong: Yeah.
Jackson: But first he told you about a bunch of evidence hidden at his place. Why would he waste time doing that?...

The Rookie seeks to challenge the status quo of cop shows when it returns for its its third season in January.
During a panel with ABC7’s Mark Brown, creator Alexi Hawley teased what’s to come in the new season and explained how the show will incorporate the ongoing conversations about police brutality sparked by the Black Lives Matter movement and the murder of George Floyd in May. Hawley, joined by members of The Rookie cast and writing team, explained that the current social climate heavily influenced the upcoming plotlines.
“It gave us a rare opportunity to really get into a lot of different topics. To talk about so many different aspects of policing – from stuff that happens on the streets to the stuff that happens on the stations, warts and all of the LAPD and policing in general, how hard it is to fire a bad cop, to make change in the system.
