While paying tribute to the late Ray Liotta, Martin Scorsese reflected on why he was unable to work with the actor again after Goodfellas.
In an op-ed for The Guardian, published Monday, Scorsese recalled working with the actor, who passed away last month at the age of 67, on the 1990 classic and shared his regret over never reuniting with the actor for another project before his death.
“We had many plans to work together again but the timing was always off, or the project wasn’t quite right. I regret that now,” Scorsese wrote. “When I watched Ray as the divorce lawyer in Marriage Story — he’s genuinely scary in the role, which is precisely why he’s so funny — I remember feeling that I wanted to work with him again at this point in his life, to explore the gravity in his presence,...

When major PR firms merge, they’re usually consolidating in order to stay on top. It’s a little different for former standalones Pmk-Bnc (which has merged at least four times in 40 years) and Rogers & Cowan: Both are owned by the publicly traded Interpublic Group (2018 revenue: $9.71 billion). Now, they will form a single firm (yet to be named) that will represent more than 500 clients and 30 brands.
So why the change? The combo creates a more impressive client list, and will allow them to trim the expenses and other redundancies that come when two entities merge. It’s the easiest and fastest way to become bigger while meeting the demands of their corporate overlords.
Of course, bigger is not always better. Still, when the new company officially launches January 1, it will dwarf Kelly Bush and Mara Buxbaum’s ID-pr. It will also become one of the top 20 PR firms in the world,...

Matt Damon's dad, Kent Damon, has passed away at the age of 74 after a battle with cancer, the Boston Globe reports. Matt's publicist, Jennifer Allen, confirmed the news to the publication on Saturday, revealing that Kent died on Dec. 14 from multiple myeloma, which is a bone marrow cancer. While no other details have been disclosed, Matt recently asked for prayers while promoting his latest project, Downsizing. "My dad's sick, so that's been a process we're going through," he told Extra. "We'll take any prayers you got, so yeah, throw 'em up there." Our hearts go out to Matt and his family.

Exclusive: Pmk*Bnc has formed a film marketing and distribution department. It will be headed by Marian Koltai-Levine, the former marketing head of Fine Line Features and Picturehouse. Koltai-Levine, who started Zipline Entertainment after Bob Berney's Picturehouse was shuttered, is bringing her entire staff over to Pmk*Bnc. The move is to be announced this morning. Koltai-Levine adds another dimension to Pmk*Bnc, which formed in January when InterPublic merged PR powerhouses Pmk/Hbh and Bragman Nyman Cafarelli, with Bnc's Michael Nyman and Chris Robichaud running the venture with Pmk/Hbh's Cindi Berger. That merge was a tumultuous undertaking that reshaped the showbiz PR landscape: among other defections, Simon Halls, Robin Baum and Stephen Huvane, left with Andy Gelt to form Slate with Ina Treciokas, and Jennifer Allen and Melissa Kates exited and brought their clients to launch Viewpoint. Koltai-Levine brings a Zipline staff that includes Nina Baron, Nathalie Kohen,...

It's not just Hollywood studios and talent agencies that get roiled and restructured by mergers. The spin-meisters themselves, whose billings are under pressure and whose star clients' lives are under ever-increasing scrutiny, are undergoing their own shake-out.
As a result, two decidedly different strategies are emerging.
The latest amalgam is the melding of two of Interpublic's stand-alone public-relations powerhouses, Pmk and Bnc, which two months ago saw PR poobahs Michael Nyman and Chris Robichaud get bigger roles and several other high-profile players -- including the Hbh troika of Stephen Huvane, Robin Baum and Simon Halls -- pick up and leave. Also upped in the combo was Cindi Berger, who ascended to chairman and CEO, completing a double-decade rise from her original role as a Pmk receptionist.
The rationale for combining the firms? Given this is the PR world, that depends on whom you ask.
