BET+ is turning to Chris “Ludacris” Bridges for its next scripted foray.
The streaming service is developing a half-hour dramedy inspired by the life of the rapper-actor, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The streamer says the untitled DJ project is inspired by Ludacris’ “experience coming up in the competitive music scene in Atlanta as DJ Chris Lova Lova, the series follows the misadventures of a sharply drawn ensemble who are willing to do anything and everything to bolster ratings at their hip hop radio station.”
Noah Gardenswartz (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) will write the script and exec produce the potential series, which is currently in the development stage. Ludacris is on board as an exec producer and will serve as music supervisor. The series hails from Universal Television and Disturbing Tha Peace, the label Ludacris launched in the 1990s alongside his manager Chaka Zulu (who will also exec produce). Larry Wilmore,...

Ludacris’ longtime manager Chaka Zulu was charged with murder this week in connection to an Atlanta shooting in June where three people, including himself, were shot and one person was killed.
Fulton County Jail records show that Zulu, legal name Ahmed Obafemi, turned himself in on Tuesday on charges of murder, aggravated assault, simple battery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was released that same day on 200,000 bond.
The shooting occurred June 26 around 11:35 p.m. outside an Atlanta-area restaurant, following an altercation in a parking lot.

Saban Films has taken North American rights to Will Forbes’ directorial debut, John Henry starring Terry Crews and Ludacris with an eye on a Q1 2020 theatrical release.
Pic is a modern adaption of the African-American folk hero of the same name, and follows Henry (Crews) after he abandons a crime-riddled life for a peaceful one in Los Angeles. But when he crosses paths with two immigrant kids who are running from the leader of his former gang, he’s forced to confront the violence of his past life in hopes of saving them.
Forbes and Doug Skinner wrote the screenplay. Defiant Studios’ Eric B. Fleischman, Kodiak Pictures’ Maurice Fadida and Automatik’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones produce.
“The tale of John Henry is classic and legendary for many,” said Saban Films’ Bill Bromiley in a statement. “Terry and Ludacris’ performances are particularly inspiring, and we are delighted to share this contemporary telling with our audiences.

A heist takes place during a hurricane… It’s difficult to imagine a sillier plot outside of Snakes on a Plane, but, like that film, The Hurricane Heist takes its ridiculous premise and runs with it, delivering about as much fun as it’s possible to have with a film this stupid.
Every action hero needs a tragic backstory, so here we get two for the price of one, as young brothers Will and Breeze witness their father getting crushed by a water tower during Hurricane Andrew in 1992. And as if that wasn’t traumatic enough, the CGI clouds morph into a shrieking skull face, just to ram the point home.
Cut to the present day and the brothers’ lives have...

It appears to be the season for ridiculously dumb, yet surprisingly entertaining popcorn movies. Hot on the heels of Pacific Rim: Uprising comes The Hurricane Heist, in which, yes, a heist takes place during a hurricane. Rob Cohen directed the first “Fast and the Furious” and “xXx” films, and hopes his perilous-weather thriller “The Hurricane Heist” leaves action fans clamoring for sequels. Distributed by Entertainment Studios and set in Alabama, the story follows a meteorologist (Toby Kebbell) intent on rescuing his brother (Ryan Kwanten) from a incoming superstorm, similar to the one that killed their father when they were kids. Yet a band of thieves eagerly awaits the squall, a diversion so they can lift $600 million from a U.S. mint and a treasury agent (Maggie Grace).
Critics genuinely complimented the “gleefully stupid” premise and building “idiocy,” along with the self-awareness screenwriters Jeff Dixon and Scott Windhauser supplied their characters. Also cited were editing gaffes, the actors’ wretched accents, and the too-low camp factor.
