In the warehouse-huge back room of his company Return Home, just south of Seattle, Micah Truman walks over to what looks like an off-white shipping crate, complete with a lock on the front. “Put your hand onto it,” instructs Truman, who, with his woodsy vest and tidy appearance, looks like a genial banker on a hiking tour.

Revolving around two things many of us know all too well, neighbours from hell and writer’s block, Destroy All Neighbors is an over-the-top exercise in splatstick from director Josh Forbes and writers Mike Benner, Jared Logan and Charles A. Pieper.
William Brown makes his living as a sound engineer at Industrial Sound & Magic, helping to bring other people’s music to life. Currently, it’s the obnoxious Caleb Bang Jansen, “Emerson, Lake and Palmer? It sounds like Emerson getting buttfucked by Lake and Palmer.”
But when it comes to his own Prog Rock album, he’s stuck in a rut. While his girlfriend Emily believes in him, everyone else around him seems to exist only to stifle his efforts.

New splatter-comedy Destroy All Neighbors has more on its mind than bad neighbors run amok. Director Josh Forbes, working from the screenplay by Charles Pieper and Jared Logan, crafts a Frank Henenlotter-inspired comedy full of guts and rock ambition. Nestled at the center is a sugary-sweet story of an artist learning to get out of his own way. While that means it has all the right ingredients in place for an infectiously scrappy horror comedy, it might be too narratively streamlined for its own good.
William Brown (Jonah Ray Rodrigues) dreams of prog-rock greatness. He works as a sound engineer at a low-rent music studio by trade and spends the rest of his waking hours trying to crack his magnum opus that’ll earn him a place in rock Valhalla. Well, almost. William frequently finds himself distracted by everything around him, especially his neighbors. Even more so with the...

Actors Alex Winter and Jonah Ray Rodrigues face off as new neighbors in Shudder’s splatter-comedy Destroy All Neighbors, and it’s safe to say that the confrontation escalates to a lethal, gory degree.
In Destroy All Neighbors, Rodrigues stars as William Brown, a neurotic, self-absorbed musician easily distracted from his prog-rock ambitions by an apartment building full of eclectic neighbors. That includes the noisy and grotesque Vlad (Winter), who just moved in next door. When an accidental murder ensues, William’s unwitting reign of terror causes victims to pile up and become undead corpses that further derail his journey toward prog-rock Valhalla.
Contracted: Phase II’s Josh Forbes directed Destroy All Neighbors from a screenplay by Charles Pieper and Jared Logan, with story by Pieper and Mike Benner, and the splatter-comedy arrives on Shudder on January 12, 2024.

2024 is opening hard and fast with one of the first genre releases of the year. From director Josh Forbes, Destroy All Neighbors is a story about an artist chasing perfection, avoiding distraction, and accepting that sometimes you need a little help to cross the finish line. It’s also kind of a bonkers movie with a high energy level and a ton of practical effects.
William (Jonah Ray Rodroguez) is stuck. He works as a recording engineer, finishing albums for other, more successful musicians, while slaving away at his passion project - a prog rock album that he has been “so close” to finishing for a number of years. He just can’t seem to get past the final hurdle and bring the whole thing home. He is constantly working on it, but as all artists can relate, sometimes the ending just gets further away. Hello again, readers! Welcome back to another installment of Daily Dead Salutes Your Shorts, where we highlight several entertaining short-form horror films in an effort to spotlight some amazing filmmakers and their vivid imaginations. And because there are so many amazing shorts out there, this writer has decided to turn this monthly column into a bi-monthly column, just so we can celebrate even more shorts each and every month.
This week, we have an adorable animated short entitled Dead Friends on tap, as well as the original short film Cargo, which directors Yolanda Ramke and Ben Howling have adapted into a feature that is currently available on Netflix. Filmmaker Josh Forbes (Contracted: Phase II) has a brand new short starring Steve Agee that I think fans will get a kick out of, and for those of you who like your horror to cut a little deep, be sure to check...

It’s October, so you know what that means… Halloween! And what better way to celebrate the festival of fear than with a whole heap of new movie releases? But with a whole heap of new horror movies on the way this month, we thought we’d take a look at what UK distributors have to offer on DVD later this month:
Toolbox Murders 2
The handyman of horror is back with a new box of tricks in in this terrifying sequel to Tobe Hooper’s 2004 reimagining of the 1978 cult favourite. One of the biggest surprises of 2013 for me was Contracted – Eric England’s tight little body-horror flick about a “Patient Zero” who hopes to destroy mankind by spreading a deadly Std. Weaker stomachs might have to watch most of the action through interwoven fingers, but as a contagion thriller, England’s style ensures that societal horrors come first and foremost.
Fast-forward two years, and we’re here to discuss Contracted: Phase II, a sequel that doesn’t see any involvement from England himself. First-time screenwriter Craig Walendziak and music video director Josh Forbes (you know, the guy who totally had an awful time at the MTV VMAs) take over as the creative team behind IFC Midnight’s hopeful successor, which provides the opportunity for a refreshing new take on England’s origin. Contracted is only the beginning of the end! Walendziak and Forbes had limitless possibilities for their world-continuing biological disaster,...

Today, Contracted: Phase II is set to infect theaters and VOD courtesy of IFC Midnight. Directed by Josh Forbes, the sequel stars Matt Mercer (who appeared in the original Contracted), Morgan Peter Brown, Anna Lore and Marianna Ralka. In the first film, audiences were introduced to a savage infection that caused the mental and physical breakdown of one of the infected and for Contracted: Phase II, the implications of the virus (and the mysterious man behind it all) are revealed to be something much bigger and more dangerous than anyone was ever prepared for.
Daily Dead recently chatted with Forbes about his involvement in Contracted: Phase II and discussed the pressures of directing a sequel, collaborating with the film’s stars and much more.
I'm curious, just because I noticed this was your first feature, how did you end up getting involved with Contracted: Phase II? Was this something that was brought to you?...

June, starring Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers) and Kennedy Brice (The Walking Dead), tells the story of nine-year-old June (Brice), who has been shuffled in and out of foster homes for years. Though she tries to be good, no matter where she goes a trail of chaos and terror seems to follow.

Contracted (2013), from director Eric England, dealt with a very contagious sexually transmitted infection. In Contracted: Phase II, that disease is continuing to spread. Though, England has passed the director's chair to Josh Forbes. This next film focuses on the disease ridden character Riley. Recently, the film's first action packed trailer was released; horror fans can find it below. More story details can be found in the trailer. However, the synopsis mentions that this second film picks up right where the first left off. Riley (Matt Mercer), contaminated by Samantha (Najarra Townsend), is searching for a cure to his illness, which is ravaging his body. Meanwhile, the infection is spreading through much of Los Angeles, with no one immune. IFC Films will distribute this title. Contracted: Phase II will be available September 4th, 2015, through Video-on-demand. And, the film will see a few select theatres, likely in La. Fans of zombie thrillers...

Featuring a plot that amplifies people’s fears of STDs, Eric England’s Contracted has done well on VOD, with its potent combination of unsettling decomposition and keen social commentary attracting a steady stream of viewers. The home media response to Contracted has been successful enough for IFC Midnight to move forward with a sequel, Contracted: Phase II, which will follow both familiar and new faces.
Deadline reports that IFC Midnight is developing Contracted: Phase II with Josh Forbes in the director’s chair. The sequel will mark Forbes’ first feature film, working off a script by Craig Walendziak.
Eric England, who wrote and directed Contracted, is not attached to the sequel. The follow-up film will see the return of characters Riley (Matt Mercer) and Alice (Alice Macdonald). In addition to Mercer and Macdonald, the sequel’s cast includes Peter Cilella, Marianna Palka, Morgan Peter Brown, Laurel Vail, Anna Lore and Suzanne Voss.

Exclusive: After seeing strong VOD returns from last year’s Std horror flick Contracted, IFC Midnight is springing for its sequel, Contracted: Phase II. Writer-director Eric England’s first film was an original low-budget take on the zombie genre about a young woman in rapid decay after picking up an icky, mysterious disease from a one-night stand. The sequel continues where Contracted left off, as newly-infected Riley (Matt Mercer) scrambles to track down those responsible for the outbreak and discovers a larger conspiracy that threatens to infect the world.
England’s not involved in the follow-up, which is already in production in La; he’s currently filming indie comedy Get The Girl. Instead, BoulderLight Pictures producers J.D.
