Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar very much wants to be one of the plethora of low-budget 1970s knock offs of Star Wars riding the comet tail of that phenomenon. It’s just not bad enough to be lumped in with Bartle Beyond the Stars or the 3-D mess of Spacehunters. Nor is it good enough to be a thoughtful low-budget meditation on the soul. It falls in between and is quickly forgotten the moment you turn off the DVD of the 2022 release, out now from Uncork’d Entertainment.
Late in the 30th century, mankind has somehow managed to survive the contemporary mess we’ve made of ourselves and has even managed to find a way to preserve the human soul, reducing it to a blue goo. The catch is that it’s expensive, so only the top 1% of the 1% can afford it, although starship captain Kip Corman (Michael Paré), a scavenger eking out a living,...

Spoiler Alert… I f**king loved Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar.
This was quite possibly the most fun I have had watching a sci-fi movie as of late… Any budget! You know you’re in for an absolute ride when in the first 10 minutes the line “I’m going to bathe in your blood and tears” is dropped. Normally a scary thought if it hadn’t been for the massive lava dragon wormy dinosaur thing moments prior.
I will always be a fan of a movie that is fully aware that it maybe doesn’t have the budget it needs to be the movie it wants to be, but does not let that stand in its way of throwing...

Plot: Space scavengers and a group of mercenaries race across the cosmos in a search for a long-lost freighter that is said to contain great treasure.
Review: I have a lot of admiration for filmmakers who don’t let financial limitations stifle their creativity or force them to minimize the scope of their stories. In that regard, there’s a lot to admire about director Garo Setian’s sci-fi adventure film Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar. Just like the title instantly brings to mind Star Wars, Space Wars is reminiscent of the low budget sci-fi movies producers like Roger Corman pumped out in the wake of the original Star Wars’ success. You know, movies like Battle Beyond the Stars and the movies that featured stock footage from Battle Beyond the Stars. Space Wars just happens to have been made on an even lower budget than those had.

"It can't be found." Neither can any good directors, I guess. Uncork'd Ent. has revealed an official trailer for a low budget sci-fi creation called Space Wars: Quest for the Deepstar, marking the feature directorial debut of an editor named Garo Setian. Yeah there isn't much here. The title and the footage looks like it's another The Asylum spoof, with even worse VFX. Life is an adventure for space scavengers Kip Corman and his daughter Taylor as they navigate their ship through a universe filled with monsters, aliens, and robots in order to reach the mythical Deepstar and collect the riches within. They want to make bank in hopes that the money will allow them to bring back their loved one from the dead. The action-packed sci-fi adventure movie stars Michael Paré, Olivier Gruner, Sarah French, Tyler Gallant, Rachele Brooke Smith, and Sadie Katz. This looks so hilariously bad, it's beyond parody,...

It’s been a while since I’ve watched a low-budget sci-fi action movie that wants to be a big-budget sci-fi movie but that’s exactly what you get with Space Wars: Quest For The Deepstar. The filmmakers did not let a lack of funds get in the way of lots of CGI, huge monsters, spacecraft and futuristic weaponry!

Of course, we do get the ‘good guys’, the father and daughter duo of Kip (Michael Pare) and Taylor (Sarah French). They soon get chased by a group of outlaws when they pick up...

Arrow in the Head’s John Fallon recently teamed up with Kevin Interdonato of City on a Hill and the indie hit Bad Frank (review here) for a hardcore thriller called Braek – and now a sales trailer has arrived in preparation for its screening at the upcoming European Film Market (details below). Check it out in the embed above!
Fallon directed the film from a screenplay he wrote with Interdonato, who also stars as the film’s nemesis Jesse. Interdonato is joined by Nick Baillie (Taken), Melissa Anschutz (Best Years Gone) and Alix Lane (Black Pumpkin). Danilo Rocha (Sick Minded), and Fallon himself co star.
The story centers on: The McCabe family’s weekend getaway was never meant to be a life-changing experience. Governor William McCabe (Baillie), a respected politician, was looking forward to some rest and relaxation. His beautiful wife Lauren (Anschutz) and distant stepdaughter Erin (Lane) strain to enjoy their time together,...

After it discovers that it will be terminated in favor of a superior technology, a company's robot goes on a killing rampage in the workplace horror film Automation, and with the film out now in select theaters and on Blu-ray and VOD from Epic Pictures and Dread, we caught up with director/co-writer Garo Setian to discuss bringing together friends, relatable ideas, and ingenuity to make his feature-length debut.
Thanks for taking the time to catch up with us, and congratulations on Automation! When and how did you first come up with the idea for this film, and how many script drafts did you and your co-writers Rolfe Kanefsky and Matthew L. Schaffer go through before you were ready to begin filming?
Garo Setian: Thank you so much for the opportunity to discuss the film! It’s been a long journey. My wife, Anahit, and I have been trying to make a movie for 20 years.

Garo Setian's sci fi comedy Automation came out on Blu-Ray and VOD on Tuesday via Epic Pictures and Dread. ScreenAnarchy has an exclusive clip to share with you today. In it, Jenny (played by We Are Still Here's Elissa Dowling) looks to be having a smoke break with Auto. It's mostly cutsie banter between two co-workers. No sign of the scifi chaos we saw in the official trailer. That's still to come. A workplace robot, Auto, transforms into a killing machine when he discovers he will be replaced by a more efficient model. Garo Setian directed, produced, and edited Automation, and co-wrote alongside Rolfe Kanefsky and Matthew L. Schaffer. The film stars Elissa Dowling (We Are Still Here), Parry Shen (the Hatchet...

"He's firing a laser! We don't need that for shipping and receiving!" A new trailer for Garo Setian's sci-fi thriller/comedy Automation begins on a familiar, if unhappy note, as a slick new robot arrives at a giant warehouse. Automation is the first feature film from director Garo Setian. The film involves a prototype, robotic worker. At first, this metallic machine tries to fit in. But then, it is slated to be replaced and this worker will not be put into the trash heap. Automation stars: Parry Shen (Victor Crowley), Elissa Dowling (We Are Still Here), Graham Skipper (Sequence Break), Sarah French and Sadie Katz. Many of the actors play office employees in this horror comedy. Now, the film's official release details are available here. The film's trailer shows the robot moving material. It can brings people coffee and even offer a line or two. But, just like humans, this machine does not like to be replaced. Full of boiling oil and with laser focus, this labourer is ready for war! Automation will show in a few theatres later this month, on November 29th. After this initial release, this title will show on Blu-ray,...

"I will not allow you to take away my purpose." Epic Pictures & Dread have debuted an official trailer for an indie sci-fi thriller titled Automation, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Garo Setian. This crazy, fun sci-fi plays on the fear that robots will turn on us with a story about a simple workplace robot that turns into a killing machine. The bot's name is Auto, of course, and he turns violent when he discovers that he will be replaced by a more efficient model. Starring (human actors) Elissa Dowling, Parry Shen, Graham Skipper, Sarah French, and "Scream Queen" Sadie Katz. The practical robot is cool, but this looks so terribly cheesy and bad in every other way, like it was made for SyFy TV and not cinemas. Have fun. Here's the new official trailer (+ final poster) for Garo Setian's Automation, direct from YouTube: When a prototype automated...

Automation is an indie sci-fi thriller from director Garo Setian. The film is prescient as it covers robot efficiency, in the workplace and the replacement of human staff. Set to have its World Premiere on August 10th, this film will take part in this year's Hollywood Horrorfest. This event has already started with showings of: The Funeral, several horror shorts and Dale Fabrigar's underwater horror fare D-Railed. Automation will be part of this film festival's second and final night. Starring Elissa Dowling (Rootwood), Sadie Katz (Bus Party to Hell), Parry Shen, Graham Skipper, and Sarah French, the film was written by director Setian and Rolfe Kanefsky (The Black Room). Now, several stills are available for the film, ahead of this title' premiere. From the synopsis, Auto has been hired by Alert Insulation. Auto is tasked with uncovering inefficiencies.
