It was a night of surprises at the BAFTA TV Awards, with “The Crown” and “Black Mirror” failing to pick up any awards while “Succession” walked away with only one for Matthew Macfadyen for best supporting actor.
Macfadyen did not attend the awards at London’s Royal Festival Hall, prompting Helena Bonham Carter, who presented the category, to walk off with the iconic gold BAFTA mask with the promise she would get it to Macfadyen.
The international category also saw upset, with frontrunners “Succession,” “Beef” and “The Bear” all failing to win the award. They were instead beaten by little-known French series “Class Act.” It was a fact acknowledged by the show’s shocked lead actor Laurent Lafitte, who, upon accepting the award, told the audience: “Please watch our show. It’s called ‘Class Act,’ it’s quite good — not just because I’m starring in it.”

“The Crown” could well bow out in style on home soil, with the final outing of the show leading the list of nominees for the 2024 BAFTA TV and TV Craft awards, announced Wednesday.
Netflix’s hit royal drama — which came to an end last year after six seasons — landed eight nominations in total, including for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville and Salim Daw in the performance categories. However, it missed out for drama series (an award it has been nominated for three times previously).
Just behind “The Crown” and also a Netflix production, the apocalyptic “Black Mirror” episode “Demon 79” earned seven nominations, including limited drama and leading actress for Anjana Vasan.
Further down in a tight group of frontrunners, BBC dramas “Happy Valley” and “The Sixth Commandment and Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses” each have six nominations. Sarah Lancashire’s leading actress nomination for “Happy Valley” could see...

Contenders ready!
Gladiators, the U.K version of American Gladiators and a show that became a staple of British Saturday night TV in the 1990s, is getting a reboot.
Confirming rumors that emerged last month, the BBC has revealed it is the new home for the spandex-friendly, muscle-flexing entertainment show, which originally ran on ITV from October 1992 to January 2000 (Sky had a short-lived revival that lasted just a year between 2008 and 2009).
The eleven-episode series — made by Hungry Bear Media (behind BBC game show Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel) and MGM Television U.K. (part of the Amazon-owned MGM, which owns American Gladiators) — is set to land on screens in 2023 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with brand new games alongside some of the original classic challenges, culminating in the classic head-to-head race, The Eliminator.

Willoughby then went into more detail about her labour.
She said: "I started having contractions about 9 in the morning and they kind of lasted all day. He arrived about 7.20pm.
"It was very different from the other two - I had a water birth - which I've never thought of doing. That was amazing. He was a really big boy - but he is perfect.
"He is so perfect I can't stop looking at him," she continued.
The 33-year-old then explained why her and husband Dan Baldwin decided to call their newborn son Chester, admitting that their other son wanted to call him Frank.

Amanda Holden made her This Morning debut today as she fills in for Holly Willoughby while the regular host takes maternity leave.
The 43-year-old Britain's Got Talent judge admitted to fellow presenter Phillip Schofield that she had "massive butterflies" at the start of the ITV show.
"I felt really wretchedly nervous yesterday and now I feel a little bit better," she said.
Schofield kicked off proceedings by reading out tweets from fans and viewers wishing Holden good luck, including one from Willoughby, to which Holden replied: "Thank you Holly, hope you've got your feet up at home!"
She pointed at her chest and asked Schofield: "My heart is pounding - can you see it?"
He then quipped: "You told me you've got three nipple covers on!"
When Holden joked whether such a subject was appropriate for morning TV, he exclaimed: "It's absolutely fine because I have too!"

Vernon Kay has signed up to host a new ITV quiz show.
The daytime series, 1,000 Heartbeats, will see contestants battling against their own heartbeat in an attempt to win money, Broadcast reports.
Each competitor begins the game with 1,000 heartbeats and their heart rate is measured as they move through each round, with each beat reducing their allowance - meaning that the faster their heart beats, the less time they will have to answer quiz questions.
Kay described the show as a "brilliant concept", adding: "The contestants are going to have to stay calm under real pressure to win big. I can't wait to start recording the shows."
The show is produced by Holly Willoughby's husband Dan Baldwin, who said: "Vernon is a hugely successful primetime star and capturing him was a real coup. He fell in love with 1,000 Heartbeats as soon as we pitched it to him."

Keith Lemon has tipped Kelly Brook to make a return to Celebrity Juice.
The comedian - real name Leigh Francis - told Yahoo UK that Brook is most likely to fill in for Holly Willoughby on the ITV2 show while she is on maternity leave.
Brook previously stood in for other team captain Fearne Cotton while she was on maternity leave last year.
Speaking at the Rts Television Awards, he said: "I expect it'll be Kelly - she did an amazing job last time so it makes sense."
However, Lemon admitted that he is yet to contact the model about the possible job offer.
"I haven't even texted her yet but I'd imagine it'll be her doing it. I'm not bothered who it is really, but she did a good job," he said.
Lemon also revealed that he knew about Willoughby's baby news before she announced it online.
