When major PR firms merge, they’re usually consolidating in order to stay on top. It’s a little different for former standalones Pmk-Bnc (which has merged at least four times in 40 years) and Rogers & Cowan: Both are owned by the publicly traded Interpublic Group (2018 revenue: $9.71 billion). Now, they will form a single firm (yet to be named) that will represent more than 500 clients and 30 brands.
So why the change? The combo creates a more impressive client list, and will allow them to trim the expenses and other redundancies that come when two entities merge. It’s the easiest and fastest way to become bigger while meeting the demands of their corporate overlords.
Of course, bigger is not always better. Still, when the new company officially launches January 1, it will dwarf Kelly Bush and Mara Buxbaum’s ID-pr. It will also become one of the top 20 PR firms in the world,...

Glenn Close is offended when finding out that her image is misused in a raunchy video made by Navy Captain Owen Honors who was eventually relieved of his service on aircraft carrier USS Enterprise on Tuesday, January 4. She released a statement to clarify that it used to be a "seemingly innocent request".
The video made by Honors was shot aboard the carrier in 2006 and 2007 while he was second in command. It contains several attempts at humor but it includes as well homophobic remarks, simulated masturbation and partial nudity. Close appears at the very end of the video with a stuffed parrot after a shot of condoms and lube.
"I am distraught that my image has been used to perpetuate something that I abhor," Close told Washington Post via publicist Catherine Olim. "The cynical, unauthorized use of my image in this video is deeply offensive and insulting, and was the result...

Angela Bassett, Jennifer Lopez, producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Gale Anne Hurd, director Mimi Leder and PMK/HBH publicist Catherine Olim are among those who will serve as judges for the LMN Student Filmmaker Competition, a nationwide contest launched by Lifetime Movie Network, The Hollywood Reporter, New York Women in Film & Television, WMA and Women in Film.
The competition, which will honor outstanding short films produced by female film students from throughout the country, is open to all female film students, including executive producers, producers, writers, cinematographers and editors. The intention is to "encourage and discover the next generation of female filmmakers."
"In 2005, women comprised 17% of all directors, executive producers, producers, writers, cinematographers and editors working on the top 250 domestic-grossing films," LMN executive vp and GM Louise Henry Bryson said. "This is the same percentage of women employed in these roles in 1998. Through this competition, we hope to grow that percentage by helping to find the next great women filmmakers who will make important contributions to the Hollywood community."
In addition to the aforementioned judges, a representative from each of the partner organizations also will serve as judges.

Nicole Kidman's representative insists photo agencies are manipulating images of the star to make her look pregnant. The Oscar winner has constantly been the subject of pregnancy rumors since hooking up with husband Keith Urban and insists she is not expecting. Kidman's representative, Catherine Olim, is convinced that photos are intentionally being distorted after one magazine paid $20,000 for a shot of the svelte star showing a bit of belly when her stomach is actually flat. She tells MSNBC, "(I'm) afraid they wasted their money. (Kidman's) not pregnant." Olim insisted Kidman wouldn't be "shooting a film, traveling to Rome for another film, then shooting another film if she were (pregnant)." She adds, "Incidentally, I'm virtually certain paparazzi are distorting photos to make her look pregnant. I've seen her, she's her regular slender self."...

Nicole Kidman has blasted reports she is rushing into marriage with country star Keith Urban because they are expecting a baby. The Moulin Rouge actress is expected to exchange vows with Urban at Sydney's Mary MacKillop chapel on Sunday, before jetting off to honeymoon in Fiji. The couple confirmed in a recent statement: "We are very happy to be back in Australia. We have come home to celebrate our wedding with our family and friends." However, Catholic Kidman denies the quick nuptials have anything to do with pregnancy. Her spokeswoman Catherine Olim tells the New York Daily News, "This is a rumor that comes around every month. It has for past year or two. Believe me on this one. She is religious, and that would never do."...

Nicole Kidman has furiously slammed reports a knee injury sustained in 2000 almost ended her movie career, because it made her insurance too high for film bosses to cover. The Hollywood beauty damaged her right knee while filming movie musical Moulin Rouge and was forced to delay the film while she recovered, causing two claims for the postponements and a staggering $3 million insurance loss, according to movie industry guru Edward J. Epstein. Epstein also alleges on website Slate.Com that the Australian actress cost insurers an additional $7 million the following year when her recurring injury forced her to quit thriller Panic Room, after three weeks of shooting. And he has infuriated Kidman by reporting her growing claims made her too expensive to insure for 2003 movie Cold Mountain, which meant she had to put a significant amount of money into an escrow account, which would cover her insurance if she caused any further postponements. But the 37-year-old star has denied the claims she put money into an escrow account, and insists her injury only affected a small number of films. Epstein tells website Pagesix.Com, "Kidman had to put a substantial amount of her salary in an escrow account, which would go to the insurer if she caused any delay, and she agreed to wear a support bandage." Kidman's representative Catherine Olim counters, "She has never had to put her salary in escrow. That's not true. Nor does that (knee) problem even exist anymore. It hasn't been an issue on the last several films."...

But Kidman's spokeswoman Catherine Olim doesn't believe Lagerfeld made the comments. She tells gossip site The Scoop, "This sounds impossible to me. He (Lagerfeld) adores Nicole and they have longstanding mutual respect for each other as professionals."...
