This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
X-Men ’97 ended with more than a few spinning plates. Sure, Bastion was defeated, but the events sent some of the X-Men to the far future and others into the past. And yet a few others were zapped to parts unknown, such as Wolverine, who remains in critical condition after Magneto ripped out his adamantium skeleton. Back in the present, Forge and Bishop make plans to find their friends. Then there’s the matter of Professor X and Magneto’s mental states, which seems to be pointing toward the coming of the terrible Onslaught.
As that last point reminds us, as wonderful as X-Men ’97 is, a lot of its power comes from the Marvel comics that it adapts. The first season of X-Men ’97 ran quickly through some important storylines from the comics, including Inferno, Mutant Massacre, Lifedeath, and Operation: Zero Tolerance.

In independent comics, particularly satirical and violent ones, it’s a given that your main character is going to be flawed. But what happens when “flawed” gives way to “douchebag”? When the principal protagonist is sparring with surrounding villains and acting just as villainous, where does the tension come from? And why do we care?
Well, when it goes too far, we really don’t, like in this week’s new Image release Revenge #1. It might be my fatigue of stories involving Hollywood has-beens, but for all his careful character construction, Jonathan Ross gives me no reason to root for aged actor Griffin Franks over the slimeballs surrounding him. Sure, he gets his face sliced off in the opening pages (surprise! except not), but when his past antics are revealed, I begin to feel like he deserves it. By the end, no amount of gratuitous female toplessness or scenes of...

DC Comics has announced that they will be canceling six titles from the ‘New 52′ lineup but will be adding six additional titles to keep the magic 52 number alive. The six titles that have landed on the chopping block include Men of War, Mister Terrific, O.M.A.C., Hawk and Dove, Blackhawks, and Static Shock, all of which have struggled terms of sales and quality when compared to the other titles in DC’s ‘New 52′.
Each of these series will wrap up their runs with the release of issue #8 and will then make room for the following six new titles to take their place.
Batman Incorporated – Writer: Grant Morrison. Artist: Chris Burnham. The acclaimed ongoing writer of Action Comics, Grant Morrison, presents a fresh take on Batman Incorporated, in which the Batman brand is franchised globally in preparation for a major international threat. We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.
Shall we see who is the fariest of them all? Oh indeedy, let’s do!

Ian Churchill’s Marineman is a unique combination not typically found in comics. Part super-hero adventure, part Discovery Channel ocean documentary, the title has been turning heads since its inception. The first volume of Marineman just hit stores in trade paperback, and it's author/artist talks about where the series came from and what the future holds for Marineman. To know Marineman we need to know where he’s come from….what was your inspiration for Marineman? Had you been working on the idea for awhile before the title was released? "The inspiration for Marineman was Jacques Cousteau and his ground breaking underwater documentary work. I would sit and watch those programmes with my Grampa when I was a kid and the word 'marine' kept repeating throughout. Coupled with my love of...

British comic artist and writer Ian Churchill, known for his work in the pages of Elphantmen and Hulk, has a new project with Image entitled Marineman.
"Steve 'Marineman' Ocean is a marine biologist and TV presenter -- a man blessed with good looks, a good job, a good circle of friends and a life many would aspire to," reads the official synopsis. "But Steve Ocean also has a secret -- a secret, which, if revealed, could have perilous consequences for Ocean and everyone in his life. With underwater action and adventure all the way, Marineman may just turn out to be the comic book you didn't know you were missing!"
The Golden Age-inspired premise has potential to be either a rollicking good time or incredibly cheesy. If I were in control of the book, I’d use Billy Ocean as my protagonist in lieu of a fictitious one. Sounds great,...

Marvel has donated 100 blank-covered cardstock copies of New Avengers #1 for dozens of high-profile artists to create alternate covers for the book. In addition to the ongoing audio dramas and original novels, the adventures of Captain Jack and the Torchwood crew are coming to comic books. Titan Publishing, which already handles the Torchwood magazine, will release a comic in August.
Two stories will appear, the first, “Captain Jack and the Selkie”, is being co-written by series star John Barrowman and his sister Carol E. Barrowman,. Handling the art is veteran Tommy Lee Edwards and Jonathan Ross. The second story, “Broken,” is the opening chapter to a five-part story, written by Torchwood script editor Gary Russell, with artwork by UK vet Adrian Salmon. Captain Jack, Gwen and Ianto (seemingly back from the dead) get trapped in a cosmic hotel, while an old villain from the TV series will return.
As one might expect, there will be variant covers – artwork by Ian Churchill or photography – for collectors with an exclusively edition, with different Churchill...

A New Torchwood comic, based on the hit sci-fi show, is being launched by Titan Publishing.
In its first issue, John Barrowman (Torchwood's Captain Jack) and his sister and frequent collaborator Carole E. Barrowman have teamed up with artist Tommy Lee Edwards, currently working with TV presenter Jonathan Ross on the comic series Turf, to produce a story called The Selkie.
The Selkie is one of two original Torchwood stories in the launch issue and sees Jack facing a deadly threat on a remote Scottish island, where people are disappearing. To his horror, Jack starts to suspect he may know who, or what, is responsible.
Barrowman says Edwards is one of his favourite artists. The pair began working together after Barrowman and his sister Carole spotted a poster of Captain Jack at the 2008 San Diego Comic-Con.
