Topher Grace is no longer Venom Fans of the popular Spider-Man comics' villain, Venom, were excited when they heard that he would be one of the antagonists in Spider-Man 3 but the luke-warm reaction from fans after the movie was released left much doubt that the character would ever be seen on celluloid again. However, much to everyone's surprise, Marvel Studios founder Avi Arad announced in summer of 2007 that a spin-off featuring the character was in the works. Writer Jacob Aaron Estes was first commissioned to draft a script but after the studio rejected it, Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese were brought on to write the screenplay. Wernick and Reese turned in two drafts of their script and the studio decided to push forward by bringing in Seabiscuit writer/director Gary Ross to do a rewrite and possibly direct the film. But the obvious question still remains, will Topher Grace, »

Every now and then a film completely sneaks up on you and delivers a nice, pleasant surprise. Such is the case with Forget Me Not, a movie I didn't even know existed before watching the trailer (embedded below). Though I suppose in this particular case, 'nice' and 'pleasant' aren't the most applicable words, as Forget Me Not doesn't look quite so warm and fuzzy.
Written and directed by first timer Tyler Oliver, Forget Me Not tells the story of Sandy, a gal who just wants to survive high school. But when friends of hers start disappearing on the weekend of graduation, Sandy realizes the culprit is most likely a girl her group of friends wronged long ago. Now before you start rolling your eyes at how familiar of a setup that is, give the trailer a watch below. Unlike what you'd expect from a basic description like that, the culprit in question isn't exactly alive, »

- At the beginning of every month, Ioncinema.com's "Tracking Shot" features six projects that are moments away from lensing and that we feel are worth signaling out. This August (2009), we are keeping tabs on: a Canadian financed pic with top tier talent, that for the next weeks becomes known as the film that the radiant Rachelle Lebevre committed to and which annoyed Summit Ent., the re-appearance of The Details (it receives a second life), three French filmmakers (Julie Bertucelli, Fabienne Berthaud) on their sophomore efforts and Guillaume Canet on pic number three and finally, master filmmaker Mike Leigh is getting set for his latest project for Focus Features. Noteworthy films that we'll also be keeping tabs on is the remakes for Straw Dogs and Larry Clark's Mona Lisa (I heard that funding was a problem) and Oliver Stone's Money Never Sleeps - the sequel to Wall Street. »

Tobey Maguire has signed on to join Elizabeth Banks, Ray Liotta, Dennis Haysbert and Anna Friel in Jacob Aaron Estes' upcoming comedy "The Details." Laura Linney is also in talks to join.
James McAvoy was originally set to star in the project, but as Variety reports, a conflict in schedule forced him to drop out. Maguire will take over his role.
"Details" follows a married couple struggling with their relationship. Things get a lot worse when they discover an infestation of raccoons in their yard and completely disagree on how to handle the situation.
Estes also directed 2004's excellent thriller "Mean Creek." As for Maguire, he's got tons of future projects in development. He will soon be seen in Jim Sheridan's "Brothers" remake. You'll also probably see him return as the lead in "Spider-Man 4." »

The movie is called ‘The Details,’ and here is the synopsis: Jeff and Nealy are a struggling, married couple with a problem bigger than their petty differences. That would be the infestation of rabid raccoons in their back yard. The problems the couple has escalate, and, at some point, someone gets murdered with a bow and arrow. It’s a black comedy from writer/director Jacob Aaron Estes who blew critics away in 2004 with his unflinching ‘Mean Creek.’ Today comes word that Tobey Maguire, looking quite rabid himself in that pic above, has stepped into the role of Jeff. He will be joining Elizabeth Banks, who is playing Nealy, in a role that was previously filled by James McAvoy. Scheduling issues forced McAvoy to drop out.
“Maguire’s character is an everyman in the sense that he is composed of a morally ambiguous core,” Estes said. “He has good intentions, »

- Not much here to expound on Production Weekly's Twitter feed which reveals that James McAvoy and Laura Linney are top-lining Jacob Aaron Estes' next film – a West Coast shoot in Seattle sometime this summer. I'll update the status of The Details once I get more details. What I can add is that this would be Estes' first project behind the camera since 2004's Mean Creek – an engrossing coming-of-age portrait that saw demonstrated Estes' skill-set in developing great characters from a rather young ensemble cast. Last we heard is that Estes was set to work on The Gifted with Ralph Fiennes – I have no clue what the status is with this biopic. »
