"Star Trek" is notoriously good to its actors. If a hard-working performer gets a small gig in one episode of "Star Trek," it becomes incredibly likely they'll be invited back for another. Armin Shimerman, for instance, played a talking treasure chest and a random Ferengi character on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" years before he was offered the main role of Quark on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Likewise, Tim Russ played a terrorist on the "Next Generation" episode "Starship Mine" before he became Tuvok on "Star Trek: Voyager." There are dozens of other examples. Once you're in the "Star Trek" family, you'll be a part of it for life.

The Trill were first introduced in the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Host". In that episode, Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) engaged in an intense love affair with a Trill super-diplomat named Odan (Franc Luz), a man whom she later discovered had a very unusual biology. It seems some members of the Trill species are joined with incredibly long-lived worm-like symbionts that are surgically implanted in their stomachs. The symbionts possess the memories and experiences of all their hosts and take over the personalities of the people they are implanted inside of. Symbionts can live through dozens of hosts in their lives.
In "The Host," Odan sported inverted v-shaped forehead ridges above his eyes and a larger, extended septum. The makeup was designed by Michael Westmore, a longtime "Next Generation" makeup artist.
It wouldn't be until "Emissary", the pilot episode of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," that Trekkies would encounter another Trill.

The series has been in development for a long time and is highly anticipated, partly due to Farrell’s performance and Reeves’ vision in The Batman.

Colin Farrell as The Penguin was one of the most terrifying characters in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. The way he walked, talked, and acted was enough for many to be convinced that he was truly the best Penguin that DC fans had ever seen. While his acting is to be praised, it is truly the makeup that helped him transform into the notorious crime lord.

Yet, some fans expressed why the production would hire Farrell and transform him into somebody unrecognizable instead of hiring a talented actor with similar looks as Oswald Cobblepot. A pretty viable point, but once fans see the BTS video of Farrell’s transformation, they will certainly appreciate not only the actor but also Matt Reeves’s vision.

It seems that the world has developed some very different opinions in the modern day about things of the past. Colin Farrell, the Irish actor born in the 1970s, is no stranger to the character of The Penguin from DC Comics since he portrayed the role 2 years back.

While The Joker may be the most iconic and memorable comic book antagonist in the world today, the depiction of Oswald Cobblepot in the 2022 masterpiece The Batman by Collin Farrell pushed the character’s popularity to the next level.
Thus, seeing just how revered the character became with his introduction in the film, Warner Bros. decided that he deserved his spin-off series to further explore him.

And thankfully this time, the star was granted his wish to smoke cigars on set and screen for The Penguin, something that the star wasn’t allowed to do when he was working with filmmaker Matt Reeves on the movie since WB had a no-smoking policy in place.
The reason why Farrell wanted to smoke was to bring his character closer to the comic-accurate recreation of Cobblepot, who is always seen with a cigar in his mouth.

The sequel to the 2022 superhero hit “The Batman” may have been pushed to 2026, but fans of Matt Reeves’ take on Gotham City will have “The Penguin” to tide them over later this year.
On Friday, Max released a new trailer for the DC Studios limited series starring Colin Farrell as mobster Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin. Farrell’s Penguin was a supporting character in “The Batman” (and one of its best parts), but he gets center stage here as he tries to grab power in Gotham’s underworld after the death of his boss, Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), in “The Batman.”
With Farrell again unrecognizable under layers of prosthetic makeup, Cobb tells a story about Rex Calabrese, a gangster who ran his neighborhood when he was a kid. Calabrese earned people’s respect by helping them out, and when he died, the neighborhood threw a parade in his honor. “Can you imagine,...

The Penguin is ready to take the big seat. Colin Farrell is back as The Penguin in the new trailer for his Max series, which spins out of the world of the 2022 DC film The Batman.
In the events of the film, The Penguin served as a lieutenant to crime boss Carmine Falcone, who meets an untimely end. Now, The Penguin is stepping up to lead crime in Gotham City in a series that looks like DC’s answer to The Sopranos.
The series hails from DC Studios, the Warner Bros. division run by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are plotting out their own shared universe of movies and TV shows. Both The Batman and The Penguin are considered separate from those plans, and take place in their own universe under the Elseworlds banner — a nod to alternate universe stories in the DC Comics.

Colin Farrell returns to Gotham City as Oz Cobb, aka Oswald Cobblepot, in the trailer for “The Penguin,” a spinoff series of “The Batman” coming this fall to Max.
“The Penguin” takes place immediately following the events of DC’s 2022 blockbuster, tracing Cobblepot’s rise to power in the Gotham underworld as he becomes one of the most prominent villains in the “Batman” universe. Farrell gives a classic gangster monologue throughout the trailer, which slowly ramps up the violence and gunfights in Gotham City’s seedy underground.
“When I was a kid, there was a gangster, real old-school type. Rex Calabrese. He was a big deal. He helped people. He saw you on the street, he’d call out to you,” Cobblepot narrates in the trailer. “When I was 14 or something, he has a heart attack and dies, still holding a cigar. In my neighborhood, they throw a parade in his honor.

Most viewers of The Batman would have been unaware that Colin Farrell was portraying Oswald Cobblepot if it had not been revealed ahead of time that he was playing Penguin. Thanks to hours spent every day in the makeup chair, Farrell’s portrayal of the Gotham City supervillain in the movie is totally unrecognizable. Even with his limited screen time, the character stole the show in a few moments, and a lot of fans believe Penguin’s role in this film was perfect.
It is worth noting that, in order to bring such a stunning character to life on screen, Farrell, 47, “fought valiantly”, but he wasn’t able to get ‘one special’ prop for his character. Yes, we are referring to his renowned cigar.

The 2024 Oscar nominations round of voting in 15 races ends on Jan. 16 after just six days of voting. Nominations for the 96th Academy Awards will be announced on Jan. 23. The contenders in acting, directing, writing and the craft categories (except makeup/hairstyling and visual effects) will be selected under the preferential system that has been in place for years. To illustrate how this method of ballot counting works, let’s apply it to last year’s Best Actor race.
Between our experts (journalists who cover this beat year-round), website editors and readers like you, we cast 8.824 nomination ballots for Best Actor. As per the preferential system, we sorted these ballots by first choice and only those men listed at the top of at least one ballot continued on in the process.
There are five nominees for Best Actor. In our scenario, the initial threshold — i.e., magic number — for a nomination was set at 1,471 votes.

Recently, more than half a century after its premiere, Fox released a retrospective special about the storied anti-war sitcom "M*A*S*H" that included rare and previously unseen interviews with the show's cast and crew. When they weren't reminiscing about their characters and opening up about cast changes over the years, former members of the fictional 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital discussed episodes of the show that broke the TV mold, pushing the medium beyond its established boundaries and yanking on viewers' heartstrings in unexpected ways.
Among the spotlighted episodes in "M*A*S*H: The Comedy That Changed Television" was "The Interview," the season 4 finale that saw the show briefly take the form of a black-and-white war documentary. The late writer and executive producer Burt Metcalfe said the experiment took inspiration from Edward R. Murrow's 1950s newsreel show "See It Now," which included interviews in Korea during the war. Over 50 years ago, the war dramedy series "M*A*S*H" broke new ground by transforming Robert Altman's film of the same name into what would become one of the most important television shows in history. Given the series' wartime background, for as funny as the show was, it was also deeply emotional and tackled some seriously harrowing subject matter. But what episode impacted the cast the most? In the new TV special "M*A*S*H: The Comedy That Changed Television," actor Mike Farrell (Captain B.J. Hunnicutt) talked about filming "Old Soldiers," getting choked up thinking about the gravity of the episode's meaning.
For those who have seen the episode, it's definitely one that packs an emotional wallop. Directed by Charles S. Durbin and written by Dennis Koenig, season 8, episode 18, "Old Soldiers," centered on Colonel Potter after he discovered that he was the last surviving member of his WWI veteran friend group. The...

Ah, Christmas! While the notion of peace of earth and goodwill towards men makes this the warmest time of the year, Christmas isn’t always so cozy on the silver screen. Many of our favourite action flicks use the holidays as a backdrop, with some of them using the yuletide setting to add an extra layer of hopelessness to the proceedings – I’m looking at you, First Blood. Another Blue Christmas classic is director Martin McDonagh’s first feature-length film, In Bruges, a darkly comic character study of two hitmen on the run who set up shop in a titular quaint city in Belgium. The two hitmen are beautifully played by Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, whose pairing was so potent that McDonagh retimed them 14 years later for The Banshees of Inisherin.
In this one, Colin Farrell plays a conscience-stricken young hitman named Ray, who’s suicidal after accidentally killing...

“The world ain’t built for guys like us.” So says Colin Farrell’s The Penguin in our first official glimpse at the Max series, which is due to air in 2024. It came as part of Max’s “The One to Watch” teaser trailer, which also offered us glimpses of House of the Dragon Season 2, The Regime (starring Kate Winslet), the latest season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The Sympathizer, starring Robert Downey Jr.
But, of all the titles, the one with the most buzz is certainly The Penguin. A spin-off of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, this takes place one week after the film and features Farrell’s titular character, Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, trying to fill the void in the underworld Carmine Falcone’s death left behind. As promised, Porno for Pyros have unleashed their first new song in 26 years. The track, titled “Agua,” serves as the first single off an upcoming EP, set for release in early 2024.
While “Agua” is new for fans, the song was originally written during sessions for the band’s 1996 album, Good God’s Urge, but was never properly recorded at the time. The band’s reunited classic lineup — Perry Farrell, Stephen Perkins, Peter Distefano, and Martyn LeNoble — hit the studio recently to record the song, along with other new tunes slated for the EP.
Farrell said of the track, “The people who live here on the West Coast have a beautiful love and passion for the Pacific Ocean. The ocean doesn’t look right, doesn’t feel right, doesn’t surf right. You go and swim in it, and you get the creeps. The sunsets are different. We are really, really screwing it up.

A day after Porno for Pyros rescheduled their first tour in 25 years, the reunited Perry Farrell-led band has released “Agua,” their first new song in 26 years.
The track, which the band worked on while rehearsing for their postponed reunion tour (now a farewell tour), was inspired by encounters the group had with dolphins while surfing in the Nineties, calling “Agua” “an ode to the sea and all its beautiful creatures.”
As such, Porno for Pyros have teamed with the Surfrider Foundation, which advocates for protecting the oceans, for the “Agua” release.

James Bond was tied to Pierce Brosnan for much of the late 90s and early 2000s. He was later succeeded by Daniel Craig in the role of 007. But before Craig, Brosnan had another actor in mind he thought could’ve carried the Bond mantle.

Brosnan successfully portrayed Bond for four movies, drawing a new generation of fans to the MI6 franchise. When his time as the character was beginning to wind down, some were already wondering who would take Bronsan’s place. According to Kitsap Sun, Brosnan himself offered a surprising name to lead future James Bond movies.
“But I’ll give it to Colin Farrell. He’ll eat the head off them all,” Brosnan said.
Eventually, there were actual rumors claiming that Farrell was next in line to inherit the Bond character.

For "M*A*S*H" fans, the best time of year is pretty much whenever cast members from the beloved military comedic drama end up in the same place. It's rare to see these actors and artists, now mostly in their 80s, reunite, so when they do get together, it always feels like a special celebration. The most recent reunion came earlier this year when B.J. Hunnicutt actor Mike Farrell popped over to Alan Alda's long-running science and communication podcast "Clear+Vivid" to help him read a scene from "M*A*S*H." Except, there was a catch: the brand new scene from the show that ended back in 1983 was actually written by artificial intelligence, with some strong guidance from Alda.
