Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Episode 4
Time travel has been a staple of science fiction ever since the genre was invented. And Star Trek has always been curious about the concept—from the basic rules of how it works to the widespread impact caused by the tiniest of changes to history. From The Original Series’ classic “The City on the Edge of Forever” to Strange New Worlds’ more recent Lower Decks crossover “Those Old Scientists”, the franchise is full of time travel stories. But Star Trek: Discovery has played around with the concept more than most, from season 1’s Harry Mudd episode “Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad” to the headache (and potentially paradox) inducing Red Angel plot that saw the Discovery launched hundreds of years into the future at the end of season 2.

“Star Trek: Discovery,” the flagship series of Paramount+’s “Star Trek” universe, is heading toward its ending. The series, which premiered in 2017, will premiere its fifth and final season on April 4, closing the book on the adventures of Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her crew.
A new season also means new challenges for any Starfleet captain, and IndieWire can exclusively share a new clip from the premiere episode that promises a big one for Burnham. On a recovery mission to secure a mysterious ship, Burnham receives information from her crew about signs of life on board. But as her supervisor Kovich coldly reminds her, her mission requires her to neutralize the potential threat “by any means necessary.”
Created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, “Discovery” was a prequel to the groundbreaking original 1966 “Star Trek” series, taking place a decade before the adventures of Captain Kirk, Spock, and the other...

“Between season 1 and season 5 is an entire life.” That’s a real understatement on the part of Sonequa Martin-Green in an interview with Den of Geek magazine, describing the five-season and seven-year journey of her character Michael Burnham, the protagonist of Star Trek: Discovery.
When we first met Burnham way back in 2017, she was the first officer on the USS Shenzhou, a Starfleet ship operating about a decade before the events of The Original Series, and under the command of Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh). By the end of the two-part premiere, Georgiou was dead and Burnham was in prison for mutiny.
Things have certainly changed since then. We begin Discovery‘s fifth and final season with Captain Michael Burnham of the USS Discovery, but adventuring over 900 years after the events of the premiere. Yeah, it’s been a wild journey, one that incurred more than a little criticism early...

Plot: The fifth and final season will find Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. But there are others on the hunt as well…dangerous foes who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it.
Review: Seven years after it relaunched the Star Trek brand, Discovery is coming to an end. In 2017, the first season of the series premiered on what was then known as CBS All Access with the first serialized narrative in the franchise’s six-decade history. While the first season took some time to warm up, the second introduced Anson Mount’s Christopher Pike and the eventual cast of the Enterprise-centric spin-off Strange New Worlds. Season three...

In 2017, the venerable “Star Trek” science fiction franchise had gone a full twelve years without a new series, after Upn aired the series finale of “Enterprise” in 2005. That changed when Paramount released “Star Trek: Discovery” on their CBS All Access (since rebranded to Paramount+) streamer, kicking off a new era for the IP.
Now, seven years later, the series is set to take its own bow. The fifth and last season of “Discovery” is set to premiere this April, and Paramount+ has released a new trailer for the series’ swan song.
Initially set a decade before the events of the iconic 1966 “Original Series,” “Star Trek: Discovery” focused on Michael Burnham a crew member on the Federation ship USS Discovery. Initially a science specialist under the command of Captains Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs) and Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), she fully takes charge as the leader of the ship at the end...

When Star Trek: Discovery first began, the show was remarkable in that, for the first time in franchise history, its primary protagonist wasn’t a starship captain. Your mileage may vary when it comes to how you feel the show has handled Michael Burnham’s journey over the course of its three seasons to date, but there’s no question that she, rather than the person at the eponymous ship’s helm, was always meant to be Discovery’s lead.
As a result, the show had a unique opportunity in its first season to explore a very different kind of captain with a very different leadership style. After all, if he wasn’t our primary protagonist, then such a character didn’t come with the expectations of a James Kirk or Jean Luc Picard. He could be darker, more complicated, less likable, and the story would be made all the richer for these differences.

If you thought Star Trek: Discovery moving 1000 years into the future would prevent it from creating any more Original Series plot holes, think again. Thanks to being set prior to Tos, Discovery produced a lot of errors that conflicted with established continuity, but season 3 promised to move past this by throwing the crew into the far future. And while that seems to have helped, a stray reference to a Gorn in the premiere still managed to cause a problem.
In the episode, Burnham encounters Cleveland “Book” Booker when she crashes into his ship. Before discovering she’s a time traveler, he blasts her for creating an unnatural wormhole, which is a highly dangerous thing to do. As Book says, the Gorn “destroyed two light-years’ worth of subspace” when they attempted to open artificial wormholes. Burnham then replies, “the Gorn did What?” And it’s this piece of dialogue that opens...

Admittedly, there is very little about the 2020 fall schedule that feels "normal."
But, there are still a lot of things that should pique your interest.
Supernatural returns this week, and new shows arrive across the dial including Soulmates on AMC, nExt on Fox, and Devils on The CW. Find out what we know, below.
Saturday, October 3
9/8c Country at Heart (Hallmark)
Not all Hallmark movies hit the right note, but with this cast, we have hope for Country at Heart.
Jessy Schram and Niall Matter top this film about a struggling country singer who meets a Nashville songrwiter in need of inspiration.
The two of them combine their musical talent to write a song for the fall festival, and they're going to find they have a lot more in their future than singing a duet together!
Haven's Lucas Bryant also stars as a country star in need of a song.

The first captain of the U.S.S. Discovery was Gabriel Lorca, but the twists and turns across Star Trek: Discovery season 1 meant that Jason Isaacs was written out the show by the finale. Still, the Harry Potter actor was one of the most popular parts of the divisive debut run of the CBS All Access series and fans would love to see him return. This time as Prime Lorca, though, rather than the evil Mirror Universe version. And if it was possible, the most obvious place for his comeback would be Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
But is this something that’s on the cards? Intriguingly, when Isaacs was asked about it during a virtual panel at Dragon Con this weekend, he elected to plead the fifth. The star even went on to suggest that he might be giving away a spoiler if he talked about it.
“Taking the fifth.

Jason Isaacs has hinted at the possibility of returning to Star Trek: Discovery, but perhaps not as exactly the same character. Isaacs played Captain Gabriel Lorca in the show’s first season. Or more specifically, “Mirror Lorca,” a version of the Captain from a Mirror Universe who assumed his place in the Prime Universe.
The fate of the “Prime” Lorca is unknown, which leaves the possibility that he could be introduced in a future episode. When asked about that, here’s what Isaacs told the Empire Film Podcast:
Where is Prime Lorca? Well, I admit that we talk. It’s not like when Mirror Lorca bit the bullet there wasn’t a clamouring for Prime Lorca, but the thing is, it has got to be a great story. Pike is already there! We know what he is like. We have seen him and he’s great. We don’t know who Prime Lorca is.

Star Trek: Discovery memorably pulled off a shocking twist in its first season, with the U.S.S Discovery’s captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs) turning out to be an evil doppelganger from the Mirror Universe. Things got complicated in the latter episodes of the run, but ultimately Lorca ended up dead and the Mirror Georgiou remained in the Prime Universe – ahead of her own spinoff show.
As fans of the series will know, though, season 1 changed a lot over the course of production due to co-creator Bryan Fuller leaving the project. It turns out the re-introducution of the Mirror Universe was one of his concepts, but he originally intended to use it to explore a bold, nuanced theme.
Here’s what Fuller told Robert Meyer in a recent episode of his Robservations YouTube show.
“The thing that really fascinated me in sitting down and crafting the story for Discovery was the human condition.
