When "Raising Dion" premiered on Netflix in 2019, it achieved its goal of becoming a beloved kids' superhero show. The series follows the story of widowed mother Nicole (Alisha Wainwright) as she struggles to safely raise her superpowered son, Dion (Ja'Siah Young). While the show's first season depicted a coming-of-age story, season two - which arrived on Feb. 1 - largely focuses on the importance of family and community.
Much has changed for "Raising Dion" since its debut - mostly because of the pandemic, which largely impacted the show's second season. "Covid kind of prevented a lot of what we were used to doing," Wainwright tells Popsugar. "It would've been awful if we had started out that way. But thankfully, we had a foundation from season one where we were doing rehearsals, play dates, stuff in the park, and arcades to kind of help [Young] get comfortable with me."

Netflix's "Raising Dion" returns for its second season in February, and based on the trailer, it'll be action packed with new allies and old enemies throwing 10-year-old Dion (Ja'Siah Young) for a loop.
The Michael B. Jordan-produced coming-of-age series - based on Dennis Liu's 2015 comic book and short film - will continue to follow Dion as he gets the hang of his superpowers with some help from his new Biona trainer/mentor, Tevin (Rome Flynn), as well as the Triangle of Justice, made up of his friends Esperanza (Sammi Haney) and Jonathan (Gavin Munn).
It's been over two years since the show first premiered on Netflix, meaning it's also been a while since we've seen Dion and his special powers in action. In season one, he was just a regular 8-year-old kid trying to wrap his head around his newfound superhuman abilities, but by the end of it,...

Raising Dion is a Netflix original series that follows the life of a boy called Dion as he discovered his special powers and abilities. While this can seem an overused storyline and oftentimes childish, this series tells the story in a way to make it a serious show which deals with important issues, give representation to those who are often voiceless and, towards the end, creates extremely tense and dark scenes which make sure even the most mature audience are engaged with. I can honestly describe this as a series that engaged me throughout. Also, the dramatic twist at the end of the series is one of the most unexpected and well-executed climaxes that I have ever seen. “People with powers are either heroes or villains,” Dion Warren explains to a new friend. Dion would know. Not only does he have superpowers — the abilities to, among other things, move objects with his mind, teleport, and heal the sick — but at age seven going on eight, he sees the world with a simple morality in which everyone is good or bad, heroes or villains. And Dion’s mom Nicole has raised him to be a sweet kid who of course can only imagine himself as a hero.

Here, that kid is Dion Warren (Ja...
