Jamie Foxx is almost ready to reveal the truth behind his recent health scare on his own terms.
A few months after his first major public appearance since his mystery illness, at the at the Critics Choice Association‘s Celebration of Cinema & Television Honoring Black, Latino & Aapi Achievements in December, “The Burial” actor was back on stage on Sunday, March 3 to accept the Producers Award from the African American Film Critics Association alongside his Foxxhole Productions partner Datari Turner.

Hollywood is often criticized about the amount of follow through there is on promises for diversity and inclusivity. Yet there is much to celebrate about the films that are being made about Black life, and the 15th annual awards by the African American Film Critics Assn. will do just that on Feb. 21.
“American Fiction,” “The Color Purple” and “Origin” — named best comedy, musical and drama, respectively — all scored multiple film honors and inclusion on Aafca’s list of top 10 films of the year. Performers including Colman Domingo, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Lily Gladstone, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Danielle Brooks will also be celebrated during the ceremony, hosted once again by Roy Wood Jr.
Aafca will follow up that event with a March 3 special achievement ceremony honoring industry figures including Jamie Foxx and Datari Turner for their work producing films such as “The Burial,” choreographer Fatima Robinson for her work on “The Color Purple...

A night full of legends, tears and an amazing audition to be the next Oscars host, the 14th annual Governors Awards brought all of this year’s award contenders out to celebrate four industry titans on Tuesday inside the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles.
Angela Bassett, Mel Brooks and Carol Littleton received honorary Oscars, while the Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter was bestowed with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
In addition to honoring legends, the Governors Awards are an opportunity for contenders to make an impression ahead of voting with the Board of Governors and other AMPAS members in attendance. The room was overflowing with A-listers such as Leonardo DiCaprio (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), Christopher Nolan (“Oppenheimer”), Ava DuVernay (“Origin”), Eva Longoria (“Flamin’ Hot”), Colman Domingo (“Rustin”), Natalie Portman (“May December”), Margot Robbie (“Barbie”) and more.

It was back to business as usual at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood, as this year’s strike-postponed Governors Awards finally unfolded January 9. With preparations for the March 10 Oscars under way with a new set of producers (and an hour earlier start time), the Governors Awards honored Mel Brooks, Angela Bassett, editor Carol Littleton, and Sundance veteran Michelle Satter while giving Oscar contenders a chance to work a room packed with AMPAS voters.
These awards used to be presented at the Oscars ceremony, but they demanded 45 minutes of screen time. Now it makes do with a montage of the Governors Awards presentation.
The Governors Awards usually take place in November and function as a black-tie starting gun to Oscar season. It also provides the Academy with a revenue-generating event as studios buy tables and pack them with that year’s Oscar-bound talent. The delay didn’t impact that energy.

The Governors Awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is always one of the annual Hollywood nights I look forward to, one that delivers Honorary Oscars in a non-televised but always warm, fun, and inspiring evening. I have attended every single one of them, and even wrote the 2nd Governors Awards, but I have to say Tuesday night’s 14th annual ceremony had an extra personal and devastatingly heartfelt kick to it, quite unforeseen when the Academy’s Board Of Governors announced their honorees – 97-year-old Mel Brooks, Film Editor Carol Littleton, Angela Bassett, and Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter – way back on June 26.
The ceremony as it usually is, was set for a mid-November date, the 18th but due to the unpredictability of the writers and actors strikes was moved to January 9. Sadly life intervened in the meantime. Littleton’s husband and former AMPAS President, cinematographer John Bailey...

After being postponed due to the strikes, the 14th annual Governors Awards will take place Jan. 9. Honorary Awards will be presented to Angela Bassett, Mel Brooks and editor Carol Littleton, with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award bestowed upon the Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter.
Satter might have a shorter IMDb page than her fellow honorees, but her work at the institute founded by Robert Redford has influenced the industry across genres and borders, helping to launch or steer the trajectories of many of Hollywood’s leading artists.
As the founding director of Sundance’s feature film program (the institute’s inaugural program), Satter has supported and spurred on early works by some of today’s most in-demand filmmakers, including Damien Chazelle, Ryan Coogler, Boots Riley, Lulu Wang, Paul Thomas Anderson and Quentin Tarantino, to name just a few.

The woman charged in the death of Hollywood marketing consultant Michael Latt also stalked a film director and repeatedly threatened suicide, according to a court filing.
Jameelah Michl, 36, has been charged with murder and burglary for allegedly breaking into Latt’s home on Monday and shooting him. Prosecutors stated in a press release on Thursday that she targeted Latt “for being friends with a woman she had been stalking.”
The D.A.’s office did not identify the woman. But according to court records, director A.V. Rockwell obtained a restraining order against Michl after receiving a series of disturbing emails and handwritten messages from her earlier this year.
The Los Angeles Times first reported on the restraining order.
According to the records, Michl worked as a stand-in and a background actor on Rockwell’s feature debut, “A Thousand and One,” which won the grand jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

The suspect in the killing of former Netflix staffer and Array consultant Michael Latt this week has been revealed by the LAPD, as has the victim himself.
The police say Jameelah Elena Michl was arrested on Latt’s doorstep soon after the fatal shooting of the veteran studio operative and activist at his mid-Wilshire home at 6 p.m. November 27. Apparently living nearby in her car, the homeless woman had seemingly invaded the residence of Latt and his girlfriend on Monday evening. She did not make any effort to leave the scene of the crime, law enforcement officials confirmed.
Latt died soon afterwards at nearby hospital.
Still investigating the killing of Latt, 33, the LAPD tells Deadline no motive has emerged yet. Michl was arrested by officers from Wilshire Division and remained in custody on $3 million bail.
