In 1997, the Screen Actors Guild award for best ensemble in a motion picture was expected to go to a “serious” nominee like The English Patient (which would go on to win the best picture Oscar), Sling Blade or Marvin’s Room (boasting a cast including Meryl Streep and Leonardo DiCaprio). But The Birdcage swooped in for a surprise win.
Producer-director Mike Nichols and writer Elaine May had adapted the film from the French stage farce La Cage Aux Folles, moving the story of a gay couple who own a nightclub in Saint-Tropez to Miami, where Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, as Armand and Albert Goldman, become increasingly stressed out when Armand’s son, Val (Dan Futterman), comes to visit with his fiancée (Calista Flockhart) and her ultraconservative parents. The cast is rounded out by Hank Azaria as the Goldmans’ housekeeper, Christine Baranski as Val’s mother and Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest as Republican Sen.

Exclusive: The Walking Dead spinoffs Daryl Dixon and The Ones Who Live and Interview with a Vampire are set to resume production after AMC Networks struck agreements with SAG-AFTRA.
The three shows are part of interim agreements with the Breaking Bad broadcaster that will allow filming to resume on the three high-profile series.
It’s understood that these agreements are specific to these three shows, rather than a blanket agreement between the company and the guild. AMC Networks, which produces the shows via AMC Studios, confirmed the waivers to Deadline, but didn’t comment further. AMC Networks is a member of the AMPTP but is not among the studios involved in the negotiations.
They mark the most significant television properties to strike such an agreement since the actors walked out. Other series on the interim agreement list include faith series The Chosen, Apple’s Tehran, which was handed an agreement due to its international nature,...

This article contains spoilers from Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles novels.
While production on AMC’s Interview with The Vampire is currently staked by strikes, the teaser trailer for season 2 shows the crew is in the midst of preparing a most sumptuous meal. Based on Anne Rice’s iconic and bestselling novel, the first season stoked the rising passion between New Orleans minor gangland figure Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), the masterful mentoring of the internationally traveled vampire Lestat De Lioncourt (Sam Reid), and the ageless complications of the unfortunate Claudia, the immortal child now played by Delainey Hayles, who replaces Bailey Bass as the series escapes to Paris.
The trailer begins with journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) clicking record on his laptop and asking, “Ok, so where did we leave off?” Considering the abrupt break in family relations which ended the premiere season, there is nowhere to...

Exclusive: AMC’s Interview with the Vampire Season 2 has paused production due to the actors strike, despite the fact it is filmed outside the U.S. with a majority international cast.
Rolin Jones’ gothic horror TV series has been filming mainly in Prague since April and stars Brits Assad Zaman, Jacob Anderson and Delainey Hayles, and Australia’s Sam Reid, along with Americans such as Eric Bogosian.
Some U.S. projects filming abroad with majority international casts such as HBO’s House of the Dragon have been able to push on despite the strike but AMC confirmed that Interview with the Vampire has downed tools, with some of its stars understood to be SAG members. House of the Dragon and fellow HBO series Industry are contracted under British actors union Equity, rather than SAG.

During a recent Gold Derby video interview, senior editor Rob Licuria spoke in-depth with Murray Bartlett (“Welcome to Chippendales”) about his Hulu limited series, which is eligible at the 2023 Emmys. Watch the full video above and read the complete interview transcript below.
In “Welcome to Chippendales,” Bartlett follows up his Emmy-winning “The White Lotus” role with his acclaimed portrayal of the late choreographer/director Nick De Noia. The eight-episode show was created by Robert Siegel (“Pam & Tommy”) and inspired by the book “Deadly Dance: The Chippendales Murders” by K. Scot Macdonald and Patrick MontesDeOca.
“It’s very seductive to play a character like Nick De Noia,” the actor explained in our webchat. “He’s a choreographer and he was very larger than life.” Bartlett revealed that “the joy of it” was “being able to take a character that might seem larger than life and make them relatable … that’s what...

“I remember being on set in New Orleans walking the backlot and thinking to myself, ‘wow, this is a high budget, A+ series that has not just the queer romance, but also a problematic one,'” reveals director Levan Akin about working on “Interview with the Vampire.” For our recent webchat he adds, “I had to pinch myself. I mean, I had to pinch myself all the time, just being there in New Orleans, because I’d actually been there 10 years before and I did an Anne Rice tour. So I was just like, I can’t believe I’m back filming this!” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Plot: After the events in the previous film, it appears Shazam has made a bit of a blunder. It’s a big enough of one to bring the Daughters of Atlas to unleash a little Hell on Earth.
Review: One of the joys of David F. Sandberg’s Shazam was the filmmaker’s mix of humor with a touch of horror. The comedic superhero excelled with the laughs. As well as a few moments fitting of the director’s previous films, Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation. And now, he is back with Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Zachary Levi is once again leading the charge. As is the rest of this charming cast. They include Grace Caroline Currey, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Jack Dylan Grazer, Asher Angel, and Faithe Herman for the young actors. And this time, we see much more of Meagan Goode, Adam Brody, DJ Cotrona, and Ross Butler,...

You know you're a success when someone feels the need to squash you like a bug.
By the end of Tulsa King Season 1 Episode 7, Dwight has two hits out on him, but we're not worried.
Dwight has the magic touch, and it's his enemies who should reconsider, not The General.
Merry Christmas, everyone! What a way to spend the holiday, am I right?
Blood is being spilled all over the darn place, and something tells me it's going to get a lot worse before it's all over.
Mitch helped Dwight bury Carson Pike's body, but not before they robbed him of his club jacket, which served as a warning to the Black McAdams.
Mitch: Is this a one-off or one of many?
Dwight: Too soon to tell.

Plot: From Mike White, the second installment of the Emmy®-winning series, is a social satire set at an exclusive Sicilian resort and follows the exploits of various guests and employees over the span of a week.
Review: The White Lotus was easily one of the best series of 2021. Mike White’s limited series became a breakout hit for HBO and elevated stars Murray Barlett and Jennifer Coolidge to new levels of success and also convinced the cable network to convert the series into an ongoing anthology. The new installment of The White Lotus changes everything aside from the titular hotel setting and the presence of Coolidge as Tanya McQuoid. Shifting the locale to Sicily, The White Lotus brings a whole new ensemble of guests with their own quirks and complications in a series that is equally as engaging and darkly humorous as last year but with some slight changes...

This Interview with the Vampire review contains spoilers.
Interview with the Vampire Episode 1
Welcome to the world of Anne Rice’s vampires. The landscape has changed, but the emotional intent remains. Entitled “In Throes of Increasing Wonder,” the premiere episode aims to evoke the feeling. Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire makes its introduction via Eric Bogosian’s Daniel Molloy. He was the young, unnamed “boy reporter” who interviewed Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) in the 1976 novel Interview with the Vampire. He sets the tone for how the narrative has changed in the almost-half-century since recording the tapes in 1973. Molloy is teaching online journalism classes now, and can be canceled at any moment.
And there you have it. AMC’s adaptation of the Vampire Chronicles is exactly that, adapted and threatened with all manner of cancellation. Mostly because of the changes to the book series. The aging...
