Boos! and Whoop-doos!: Finding Shoptimism in a Socioeconomic Crisis!

12 November 2009 12:26 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Lee Eisenberg's Shoptimism? Whoop-doo!

I'm broke. This is no new revelation. I've been heading down this road for a while. I work. I make a decent enough living. But there's no middle ground, and the weight is suddenly bearing upon my pocket book. All of my cash is going directly into bills, food, and gas. There is nothing left over. This wasn't always the case. How did I let this happen? Credit Card bills? A little. Everything I have put on credit has been a necessity that I couldn't afford in the moment. It's the socioeconomic cries of our times that have gotten me down. We're supposed to be coming out of a recession. And personally, I thought I wasn't being affected. I could at least still buy a DVD or two come payday.

Not anymore. I took on the challenge of becoming a single paycheck household in the »

Battle of the Books: Scroogenomics vs. Shoptimism

10 November 2009 5:30 AM, PST | Fast Company | See recent Fast Company news »

The holiday shopping season is already upon us, and just in time for the rush are two books centered on consumerism. With our purse strings at stake, we pit the reads against each other.

Scroogenomics: Why You Shouldn't Buy Presents for the Holidays by Joel Waldfogel Book Shoptimism: Why the American Consumer Will Keep on Buying No Matter What by Lee Eisenberg Buying presents sucks (duh). But it's also economically inefficient: People part with $66 billion each year, but the value derived from those reindeer sweaters and crappy candles is a mere fraction of that. In A Nutshell Aided in part by technology, the sell side is only getting more manipulative, from brain scans measuring brand preference to mining zip-code-based psychographic data. "Ghostbusters 3" Update

1 November 2009 9:17 PM, PST | Reel Empire | See recent Reel Empire news »

I knew "Ghostbusters 3" has been a possibility for awhile now, but I didn't realize just how close it was to actually being made. Original actor Dan Aykroyd gave a few updates on the film. He announced that writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg are currently "hacking out a first draft". He also stated that Sony is enthusiastic about the project. While the film is closer to production than ever, Aykroyd assured fans that the project was far from a go. Oh well. At least the there's actually a script being written. The script is always a means there's a greater possibility that a movie is going to happen. I loved the original "Ghostbusters", but the sequel was kind of lame in my opinion. Here's to hoping the third is as good as the first!

Writer Found For ‘Men In Black 3′

30 October 2009 4:45 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Back in April we reported on news from the Sony ShoWest presentation that the studio was developing a script for a third Men in Black movie, something which built on the rumors from over a year ago that franchise stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were interested in suiting up for some alien escapades once more. Fast forward to now and an update has come out that Men In Black 3 has found its writer in the form of Tropic Thunder screenwriter, Etan Cohen (not to be confused with one half of the famous Coen brothers, Ethan).

Variety is reporting that Columbia Pictures (which Sony owns) has tapped Cohen to pen the script, but beyond that no deals have been made for either Smith or Jones to reprise their roles. Although I’d be very surprised if the studio didn’t have talks going on with the two stars »

Skeleton Cabbie talks ‘Ghostbusters 3′: “I haven’t seen a script”

30 October 2009 8:08 AM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Despite what some members of the Ghostbusters 3 production crew may tell you, not everyone has been invited back to the highly anticipated project.

“Nobody has called me. It’s not like I’ve been hard to find either,” said Skeleton Cabbie. “I’ve reached out to Ivan [Reitman] and I even left a voicemail for Harold [Ramis] but so far nobody has called me back. It’s hard not to feel sad about this. We all had a great time when we filmed [Ghostbusters].”

Skeleton Cabbie played himself in the hugely successful 1984 film Ghostbusters. Starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson, the film spawned a cartoon, video games, a popular line of toys and a sequel in 1989.

“Wow, the stories I could tell you about Bill [Murray]. One time on set he showed up with this Russian chick and the two…well, I won’t go into it. You’ll just have to read my book, »

'Ghostbusters 3' Hacking Along

29 October 2009 9:45 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Recently, Dan Aykroyd talked about the progress of Ghostbusters 3, and while he sounded relatively measured, his words offered hope for longtime fans of the franchise.

Aykroyd was a guest on Wednesday of Coast to Coast Am with George Noory, where he promoted his father Peter’s new book "A History of Ghosts: The True Story of Seances, Mediums, Ghosts, and Ghostbusters". Meanwhile, with regards to Ghostbusters 3, IGN reports the actor said it’s still far from a go, but that Sony is enthusiastic about it.

Screenwriters Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg are in the midst of "hacking out a first draft," Aykroyd told Noory. He added that the sequel seems closer to being a reality than it’s ever been, and that both cast and studio are eager to finally make it happen.

If there is any reason to be cautiously optimistic, it’s that Harold Ramis, who would be »

Bill Murray Hasn't Seen 'Ghostbusters 3' Script

15 October 2009 11:30 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Just days after report came in that director Ivan Reitman is attached to "Ghostbusters 3", Bill Murray revealed that there is yet a script. The 59-year-old shared that he has yet had his hands on the script when asked about how excited he is on the third installment during the premiere of "The Fantastic Mr. Fox".

"Well, I don't know," he told AbsoluteRadio. "I'll believe it when I see it. I saw a guy talking about the end of the world a couple of years ago, and I haven't seen that either. So I'm not going to be believe the Ghostbusters story until I see the script." And, on his involvement, he said, "Well, I don't want to do it yet. There's still no script, it's just a bunch of talk. It's just a wish list for someone. "

However, Murray told AbsoluteRadio that he does not want to commit to the film until he reads the screenplay. He said: "Well, I don't know. I'll believe it when I see it. Ivan Reitman Confirmed for Ghostbusters 3... But May Not Direct

9 October 2009 9:01 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It seems that the director of two successful 80s films will be involved with a third film, but perhaps not at the helm. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that they have "straight up confirmed, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt that Ivan Reitman, director of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, is in fact attached to get behind the camera for Ghostbusters 3."

However, the site is reporting that Reitman is still unsure whether or not he will return to direct the film himself, or if he'll only be involved in a producer capacity. The site also confirmed that the story would kick off in present day where the original Ghostbusters decide to re-open their paranormal removal service.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykrod, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver have all confirmed their involvement for Ghostbusters 3, which is being written by The Office writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg.

Ivan Reitman Back for ‘Ghostbusters 3′

9 October 2009 7:41 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

The director of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, Ivan Reitman, is attached to return for the developing third installment.  The original crew of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver have already agreed to return.  (Sorry, no Rick Moranis.  He’s still retired.)

Bloody-Disgusting has confirmed Reitman will definitely be involved in some capacity, but he’s currently only attached as a producer.  It’s still uncertain whether he wants to get behind the camera again, so for now he’s merely “attached.”

That being said, I’d expect a decision on a director to be made soon as screenwriters Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg have already turned in a script.  B-d learned the story will open with the ghost removal service re-opening after a several year hiatus.  Other rumors have hinted at the Ghostbusters training a newer, younger crew of ghost hunters, but they’re unconfirmed. »

Reitman Returns to Direct Ghostbusters 3

9 October 2009 2:47 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

While other Paranormal Activity is chilling spines this Halloween month, news is reaching us of one of our most cherished franchises, one whose long awaited sequel is rattling into pre-production.

Bloody Disgusting tells us that Ivan Reitman will be returning to Ghostbusters 3, behind the camera, though we are not told in what capacity. This is great news, as while the original team of Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Ackroyd and Ernie Hudson are all confirmed to return for the next film, having Reitman behind the camera will complete this reunion and should bring Reitman back to his glory days of Stripes, the original Ghostbusters films and, um, Junior.

What we also know (according to /Film) is that a script has been delivered from the writers of the subtle as a blowtorch to the face prehistoric comedy Year One, Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg. I hope Ackroyd and Ramis will have considerable input, »

Ivan Reitman Attached to 'Ghostbusters 3'

9 October 2009 2:38 AM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Ivan Reitman, the man behind the lens of the first two "Ghostbusters" films, will indeed be involved in the development of "Ghostbusters 3". Bringing up the story to the attention was Bloody-Disgusting (Bd), which confirmed that the 62-year-old filmmaker is 100% attached to the project.

While the director of "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" is definitely on board to produce, Bd noted that he is yet to make a decision over the potential directing job. "While he's attached, the word is that he hasn't decided whether or not he really wants to direct, yet," so wrote the site on the matter.

Reitman news aside, Bd also offered new information on what "Ghostbusters 3" will be about. It revealed that this second sequel to the 1980s comedy movie will begin as the paranormal researchers "reopen" their ghost removal service after it has been closed for quite a few years.

Ivan Reitman On Board For Ghostbusters 3

9 October 2009 1:44 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

BloodyDisgusting has confirmed that Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II director Ivan Reitman is 100% attached to Ghostbusters 3. He hasn't decided yet if he wants to direct the project, but is definately on board to produce. This shouldn't come as much of a shock as almost everyone associated with the first two films are also on board for a third film if it goes into production. I have heard that Office / Year One scribes Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg have turned in a script, and Bd is reporting that the sequel script begins as the paranormal researchers "reopen" their ghost removal service after it has been closed for years. We've already heard that the film will introduce a new generation of Ghostbusters, who will be trained/mentored by the original crew. We'll keep you updated as to any further developments. »

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Year One’ Fails to Deliver a Single Laugh

7 October 2009 1:22 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Here’s a thoroughly detestable comedy from some of the most appealing people in Hollywood. It could easily be mistaken for one of the fake movies advertised before “Tropic Thunder,” which cleverly spoofed the creative bankruptcy that befalls so many mainstream studio products. Jack Black and Michael Cera have both created comic personas that are wholly unique, and found great success with them in past films (Black’s pinnacle was “School of Rock,” Cera’s was “Superbad”). But both are guilty of using the same comedic well until there isn’t a drop of originality left, and in “Year One,” they are all dried up.

Blu-Ray Rating: 1.5/5.0

How could anyone, least of all Harold Ramis, think a caveman comedy would be a funny idea for a movie? When was the last time a caveman comedy was actually funny? From Ringo Starr’s “Caveman” and Mel Brooks’ “History of the »

Harold Ramis Offers Something New in 'Ghostbusters 3'

1 October 2009 12:13 AM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

With his return as Dr. Egon Spengler being confirmed earlier, Harold Ramis made time to address several details concerning "Ghostbusters 3". During the promotional effort for the upcoming release of "Year One" DVD, the 64-year-old actor/filmmaker talked with MovieWeb about his vision on his character and the aim of developing a third "Ghostbusters" movie.

Asked about the life of Egon in 2012, he responded, "I had two initial first instincts. One was that Egon had become a shaved head Buddhist monk. That is not going to happen." He then added, "The thing that I pitched for my character is that he's been living in Geneva, and he works for the Institute of Imaginary Science."

As for the aim for this movie, he stated, "I think we are just going to try and make a good movie. The intention of a sequel is not to give an audience more of what they »

Harold Ramis Takes Us Back to Year One

30 September 2009 8:35 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Jack Black and Michael Cera star in this hilarious look at life in the early days of existence

Year One is coming to DVD and Blu-ray on October 6th. This hilarious new comedy was directed by the legendary Harold Ramis, a man responsible for such epic box office hits as Caddyshack, Vacation, and Groundhog Day. He's also an established comedic actor, appearing in such 80s mainstays as Stripes and Ghostbusters, not to mention the recent Judd Apatow film Knocked Up. This past year, he teamed once again with Apatow to direct Year One, which stars Jack Black and Michael Cera as a couple of lazy hunter-gatherers who are banished from their primitive village. The two comedians set off on an epic journey through the ancient world of biblical times hoping to save two women they wish to "lay with". It's a very funny adventure that is sure to be a cult hit on DVD. »

Harold Ramis Dishes on Ghostbusters 3 For 7 Minutes

9 July 2009 6:39 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Even though he's been out lately promoting a terrible, terrible movie-- Year One, in case you were lucky enough to miss it-- Harold Ramis is still the kind of guy you want to talk to forever. He's full of great stories-- when we talked to him, he dished on how he could have fixed his 80s flop Club Paradise-- and he's also willing to talk freely about his most anticipated upcoming project, Ghostbusters 3. For whatever reason, the site Making Of got access to Ramis for a good long while, and he spent 7 minutes talking about what he wants for Ghostbusters 3, the film he's working on with his original Ghostbusters counterparts as well as The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitksy. And he admits that there are lot of bad precedents for long-anticipated sequels. "Certainly the last Indiana Jones to me was like a disaster," Ramis admits. But he »

Harold Ramis Talks Ghostbusters III

8 July 2009 10:07 PM, PDT | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

There’s been a lot of non-news and speculation surrounding another Ghostbusters sequel in the last year or so, with most of it not worth mentioning. But now the folks over at Makingof.com have posted something that is actually worth taking a look at. They caught up with director Harold Ramis and got him to open up about the potential project. He talks about the film’s status, what a new Ghostbusters would be like in the now special-effect heavy world and briefly mentions past attempts at trying to get Ghostbusters III off the ground. Check it out below. Ramis as well as Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, all of whom have loosely agreed to reprise their roles, are awaiting a first draft of the script, which is being written by The Office and Year One scribes Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg. »

Year One Review

Year One Directed by: Harold Ramis Written by: Harold Ramis, Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg Starring: Jack Black, Michael Cera, David Cross, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Hank Azaria, Vinnie Jones, June Diane Raphael, Juno Temple, Paul Rudd, Olivia Wilde Some 25 years ago, Harold Ramis was one of the top comedy writer/actor/directors working in Hollywood. From his start on Sctv to his involvement in such classic films as Animal House, Caddyshack, and Stripes, to what would arguably be the high point of his career, Ghostbusters, he had a hand in some of the most memorable comedies of all time. He kept directing throughout the '90s and into the 2000s, but the quality of his output dropped off until, somewhere along the way, he managed to hook up with the Judd Apatow crew. After scoring a small role in Knocked Up, he went on to direct a handful of episodes of The Office, »
