Lin-Manuel Miranda promises that Tony Awards host Ariana DeBose, an original cast member in Hamilton before her Oscar win for West Side Story will have “a doozy of an opening number” kicking off Sunday night’s show.
“There will be dancing,” he predicted in a telephone interview with Deadline, without revealing specifics. “You couldn’t ask for a better host.” Miranda noted that he is attending the Tonys even though he “doesn’t have a horse in the race.” In large part, the night will be about celebrating Broadway’s return from the devastation of Covid.
“We’re just rallying,” he said. “It is Job-like what theater has gone through, so this will be an incredible rally for the whole theater community.” The Omicron variant, which gathered steam at the end of 2021 just as the holiday season was beginning was “crushing at a tme when we most depending on tourist business,...

Encapsulating any generation accurately on television isn’t easy. As Des Moran and the rest of the “grown-ish” writers room have come to find out, it’s a particularly difficult task when writing about Gen Z — a group of young people who are currently entering adulthood and aren’t too keen on being generalized.
This is especially true when exploring Gen Z relationships, which might feel much more progressive than those of generations past. In some ways, they are. But, in other ways, their dating woes feel quite familiar, Moran told TheWrap.
“I think the surprise to all of us was that [we’ve been] living in this progressive bubble and reading articles about how all of Gen Z is queer, and being cisgender and being heterosexual are not even things that Gen Z is anymore,” he explained. “And the more college kids we talked to the more we saw, like actually, that’s not necessarily true.
