The misty landscapes of suburban England are unassuming, monotone and bleak; the perfect environment to shroud a fantastical, alien planet and its otherworldly inhabitants. Set up off the beaten path outside the sprawling metropolis of London is the set of John Carter an epic sci-fi venture from Andrew Stanton, one of the main creative forces behind Pixar and the Academy Award-winning director of Finding Nemo and Wall-e, the producers of Avatar and Disney, a studio familiar with blockbuster filmmaking (see Tron Legacy and The Avengers).
Based on the novel Princess of Mars by pulp fiction god Edgar Rice Burroughs, John Carter transplants its titular hero, a Civil War veteran, to the red planet of Barsoom, better known to earthlings as Mars. There, Carter becomes embroiled in the political affairs of Barsoom's warring alien races: the Tharks, the local 8-foot, multi-armed, green beings; the Red Beings of Helium, who are mighty...

The "X-Men: First Class" publicity train continues to roll forward in its efforts to sell us all on the idea of a superhero period piece. The latest photo released isn't exactly evocative of the 1960s setting, but there is a lot of fire.
The image shows actor Lucas Till standing in the middle of a blaze and looking entirely unconcerned about it. That's probably because his mutant ability to absorb cosmic energy and project it outwards is what caused the conflagration — but that's just our guess.
The photo debuted on the "X-Men: First Class" Facebook page.
Producer Bryan Singer, who directed the first two X-Men movies, has previously stated that Havok's backstory was changed to fit with the movie's plot. In the comics, Havok alter-ego, Alex Summers, is the brother of X-Men leader Scott Summers/Cyclops — though we don't yet know the nature of the change made for "First Class.

I'm not the only one to remark on the curious fact we are just recently seeing images from two superhero movies - X-Men: First Class and the untitled Spider-Man reboot (don't call it Spider-Man 4, Sony has told us, cos it isn't).
What's strange about these two sets of pictures appearing simultaneously is that one film (First Class) comes out on June 2 while the other isn't out until more than a year later, in July 2012.
Clearly, the X-Men project - which still appears to be filming - has to move fast to meet that release date in four months' time. Not to mention offering us a trailer or two.
Director Matthew Vaughn admits the pressure is on, but he seems confident of succeeding. And he also hints at sequels, which will be a relief for those devotees (me included) who want to see the younger versions of Cyclops, Jean and Storm...

When Matthew Vaughn brings "X-Men: First Class" to theaters in June, the film will turn back the clock on one of the most beloved superteams in the comic book world. The X-Men were fully established by the time Hugh Jackman's Wolverine entered the picture in Bryan Singer's 2000 release, "X-Men," and former friends Professor X and Magneto had long since had their falling out.
With "First Class," Vaughn lays the groundwork for all of that. Not only will we see Xavier and Eric Lehnsherr (the future Professor X and Magneto) meet, but we'll also see some X-Men you haven't seen in previous movies — including Alex Summers, a.k.a. Havok. The brother of well-known X-Men leader Scott Summers (Cyclops), Havok will be played by Lucas Till, who will be appearing in the March release "Battle: Los Angeles."
Till recently spoke a bit about both roles and the differences between...

In a brief quote from the latest issue of Vman Magazine, young actor Lucas Till, whose portraying Alex Summers aka Havok in Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class prequel, speaks on the process and look for the role. “The day after I arrived on location to shoot Battle: Los Angeles, I started a three-week boot camp. The first week consisted of getting my body physically and mentally ready for everything the marines would be doing in the weeks to come. For X-Men: First Class, my routine is a lot different. Portraying Alex Summers, I want to look as athletic as his character is in the comics. My trainer, Ed Chow, is one of the nicest people on the face of the earth, which is deceiving, because he is damn good at what he does.” Apparently, theres more from Till on the role in this Vman magazine issue, which hits shelves...
