By now, everyone agrees that 1985’s Fletch, starring Chevy Chase, is a classic comedy. Indeed, the mixture of thriller and comedy made the movie iconic in its own way, with it an adaptation of the classic series by Gregory Mcdonald. In it, Chase played investigative reporter Irwin M. Fletcher, who is hired to kill a millionaire in a case of mistaken identity and is able to uncover a conspiracy involving corrupt cops, drug trafficking, and more. What made the movie unique compared to many eighties comedies was the compelling storyline, which came from Mcdonald’s book, the solid mixture of action and comedy, and that amazing soundtrack by Harold Faltermeyer.
It was such a big hit that in 1989, it got a sequel, Fletch Lives. However, while the first film is considered a classic, many maintain that the sequel is terrible, mostly because it didn’t bother to adapt one of...

Taylor Swift’s father allegedly assaulted an Australian paparazzi early Tuesday morning, according to new reports.
Though Scott Swift has not been formally identified, local police said that a 71-year-old man slugged a 51-year-old man at Neutral Bay Wharf at 2:30 a.m.
“Two individuals were aggressively pushing their way toward Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water,” a spokesperson for Swift said in a statement.
The paparazzo, Ben McDonald of Matrix Media Group, told the Sunday Morning Herald that he was left with a “sore left chop,” though cops said he did not need any medical treatment.
“She got off a super-yacht at Neutral Bay and walked up the wharf with an umbrella over her head and a couple of security [guards] around her,” McDonald said. “Security sort of pushed us around with the umbrellas. Then her dad decided to...

When it comes to celebrities and public figures, it is safe to say that Taylor Swift is as high-profile as one can get. On top of having one of the most successful tours of all time with her Eras Tour, she is one of the most influential figures in the world. This sort of recognition and attention always comes at a cost.
There is a common Hollywood curse of celebrities who are at the highest of fame, getting scrutinized by the media and Swift is no stranger to this. Unfortunately, often times a lot can go wrong and people end up getting hurt.
Taylor Swift in a still from The Eras Tour
It has recently been reported that her father, Scott Kingsley Swift, was accused of punching a paparazzi while he and his daughter were in Sydney, Australia. The matter has become so serious that the usually reserved singer’s team has issued a statement.

Taylor Swift’s father, Scott Swift, is under investigation in New South Wales, Australia following an alleged altercation with members of the paparazzi.
TMZ reports that the New South Wales Police are investigating an alleged assault after a photographer named Ben McDonald filed a complaint against Swift.
McDonald alleges he was photographing Taylor Swift at Neutral Bay Wharf early Tuesday morning when Scott charged at and knocked him to the ground. At least a portion of the incident was captured on video footage and shared with TMZ.
In a statement in response to the allegation, a representative for Taylor Swift said, “Two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water.”
Swift recently wrapped up the Australian leg of “The Eras Tour” with a run of shows in Sydney. She’ll next head to Singapore for six sold-out shows.

As The Holdovers star Da’Vine Joy Randolph heads into the home stretch of awards season (and her continuous sweep of trophies), her red carpet glam sessions with stylists Wayman + Micah reflect the exhilaration.
“Cocktails, good music and laughter,” says Micah McDonald — who co-styles Randolph, along with fellow first-time Oscar-nominee Colman Domingo, with Wayman Bannerman — of the experience of working with Randolph ahead of the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards. “We’ve done the work. There’s a reason music legend Brian Eno has never been the subject of a music documentary: He thinks they’re rubbish.
“I always find them frustrating,” said Eno, zooming into the post-screening Q&a at the January 18 premiere of “Eno,” which is, in fact, a documentary about the musician. “Any documentary I’ve ever seen about anybody I know, I thought has missed out [on] most of the interesting things about them.”
Eno’s larger problem with biography, whether it’s a movie or book, is that even the good ones “trace a sort of single chronological path through and make everything follow from each other.”
Veteran documentary director and producer Gary Hustwit shared Eno’s concerns. So this was his pitch: The documentary would be a different film every time it screened. Rather than the filmmaker making the connections between different aspects of Eno’s life, art, and ideas, digital...

Actors and actresses might approach red carpet dressing with all sorts of mindsets — nervous and unsure, risk-averse or highly opinionated, for example — but Wayman + Micah say Taraji P. Henson falls into a client category every stylist should love.
“We started working together last April when we started promoting The Color Purple, and it’s been an amazing partnership ever since,” says Wayman Bannerman, who alongside partner Micah McDonald also counts Niecy Nash-Betts, Colman Domingo and Da’Vine Joy Randolph among their starry client roster. “We have had such a blast being creative over the exciting and extensive press tour. [Taraji] has a great personal sense of style and loves to dress up, so we are always excited to show her new pieces, because she gets so excited.”
Taraji P. Henson hits the carpet at the Emmys, where she took the stage to present alongside Joan Collins for outstanding limited or anthology series.

One of the eternal mysteries of awards season is how to determine whether Oscar-worthy actors should compete in the lead category or in supporting. Is Lily Gladstone’s role in “Killers of the Flower Moon” significant enough to warrant a best actress nom? Is “The Taste of Things” star Juliette Binoche’s part “too big” for supporting? While stellar thesps split hairs over how they ought to be classified, another kind of performance has gone largely unrecognized — one that practically deserves its own category: best cameo. Like Alec Baldwin’s motivational speech in “Glengarry Glen Ross” or Christopher Walken’s watch story from “Pulp Fiction,” a brief appearance by the right actor can completely transform what
audiences make of a movie.
Here are our nominees for the surprise appearances that boosted this year’s awards crop. Warning: there are some spoilers ahead.

With Rustin now on Netflix, cinephiles worldwide can enjoy one of the season's top Best Actor contenders. However, one shouldn't presume there's no more to George C. Wolfe's picture than Colman Domingo's spirited turn. Indeed, there's a vast pool of brilliant Black actors around him, breathing life into civil rights icons left and right. Among them, Broadway's First Lady and Tony champion Supreme stands out, the one and only Audra McDonald as Ella Baker. She's only in a couple of scenes but leaves a lasting impression, embodying strength and conveying a rich history between the activists that goes beyond the narrative's limited scope.
As of late, that's McDonald's big screen specialty, serving excellence for a scene or two, and then – poof – she's gone. Just look at her other 2023 movies…...

Casper Ruud was no fan of the way the Atp handled the late finish of the Jannik Sinner - Mackenzie McDonald match, and he made it public.
Late finishes have been a talking point in tennis for a while now, but it's been a particularly big topic this year. Many players have started to push back on the late starts and subsequent late finishes because there is very little benefit to them if you're a player.
There are plenty of benefits if you're an organizer or the Atp, but ultimately, it's just not what the players want. At some point in time, you have to listen to your players because, in the end, there is no product to sell without the players.
The most recent example of that was Sinner and McDonald starting their match after midnight and finishing at nearly 3 a.m. at the 2023 Paris Masters .

Jannik Sinner 's coach Darren Cahill has spoken out about the Atp 's scheduling after the Italian's late-night finish at the 2023 Paris Masters .

It has been a long 19 months since we’ve been able to luxuriate in a withering line from Christine Baranski’s Agnes van Rhijn, but fans of “The Gilded Age” may now celebrate as the HBO drama has returned with its second season. After the first batch of episodes ended with Carrie Coon’s social climber Bertha Russell making significant inroads with “old money” New York, these new episodes will find her at odds with the old guard once again as they go head-to-head with rivaling opera houses. The season premiere aired on Oct. 29 on HBO and streamed on Max.
With such an operatic season arc and its many other subplots, “The Gilded Age” has avoided a sophomore slump. As of this writing, the show has a 74 score on Metacritic, indicating “generally favorable” reviews. It is also certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 94% freshness score, with their critical consensus reading,...

Late finishes are the theme at the 2023 Paris Masters , as yet another match finished well after midnight, seeing Jannik Sinner beat Mackenzie McDonald .
The American can be tricky to beat because he's just very solid. Nothing jumps out with him, but he's solid with the serve, the forehand, the backhand, and he'll beat you if you give him the chance.
Jannik Sinner had to be really careful for much of this match as McDonald was giving him his all. The American surprisingly took the opening set in a rather close tie-break where he outplayed Sinner.
He had more winners and fewer errors and just served better. The players traded breaks earlier in the set as Sinner broke at 4-4 but failed to serve it out. Sinner has been in really good shape lately, playing some amazing tennis.
After all, he won the Vienna Open last week, so he arrived in Paris red-hot.

Kirk McDonald, North America CEO for media agency GroupM, plans to step down by the end of the year.
The news was relayed to employees Monday morning by GroupM Global CEO Christian Juhl. (Read his internal memo below.) With McDonald remaining onboard as a search begins for his replacement, Juhl said Adam Gerhart, a 20-year veteran of GroupM and its corporate sibling, Mindshare, will serve as interim North America CEO.
McDonald spent three years in the top post, perhaps the most turbulent stretch in the modern history of advertising. After navigating the pandemic, he then faced a choppy ad market that saw even longtime stalwarts like Facebook and Google post declining results.
Prior to joining GroupM, which is owned by UK giant Wpp, McDonald racked up significant experience in digital media, with senior exec roles at Time Inc. and Net. He also worked at AT&T and its ad-tech unit, Xandr.

McDonald, who joined GroupM in 2020 after a stint at the ad-tech unit known as Xandr, is set to leave at the end of 2023, the Wpp unit confirmed Monday.

You are passionate and uncompromising in your pursuit of excellence,” McDonald said in a memo to staffers Monday. “It’s been an honor to be a part of this team leading the way forward with the best in the industry, and a joy to have learned so much from all of you.” There has been speculation in the industry for some time that McDonald might leap to a different executive opportunity.

It’s been a bit more than a year since “Butcher’s Crossing” premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, but the timing of its theatrical release could hardly be more propitious. Director Gabe Polsky’s grimly fatalistic Western has finally arrived at the megaplexes just days after the PBS airing of “The American Buffalo,” Ken Burns’ fascinating (and often infuriating) documentary about how bison were very nearly hunted into extinction in this country before an unlikely group of preservations saved the shaggy beasts. As Burns emphasizes in his two-part film, and Polsky’s drama duly notes during its end credits, an estimated 60 million bison roamed the American West as late as 1860. Two decades later, however, the bison population plunged to less than 300.

Colman Domingo is demanding the spotlight for his next film role. The "Candyman" and "Euphoria" actor portrays queer civil rights activist Bayard Rustin in Netflix's upcoming biopic, "Rustin." Per the streamer, the movie will chronicle Rustin's rise as the "architect of 1963's momentous March on Washington," where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his historic "I Have a Dream" speech. According to the movie's trailers, which arrived on Aug. 28 and Oct. 19, "Rustin" is also expected to spotlight some of the obstacles the titular figure faced during his lifetime, including police brutality and criticism over his sexuality.
Rustin, known as one of the greatest organizers in history, "challenged authority, never apologized for who he was, what he believed, or who he desired," per Netflix. And though he made history, the influential figure's accomplishments have seemingly been forgotten - until now.

“How do we wrap up, how do we accelerate this narrative not only to end this season but to end six years?,” wondered Christine Baranski when she learned that her Paramount+ series “The Good Fight” would come to an end this past fall. The long-running, critically-acclaimed show and sequel to the Emmy Award-winning “The Good Wife” was bursting with so much “psychic, political, emotional energy” throughout its run, and the actress feels entirely “emotional and very proud” of its conclusion. Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Baranski’s character Diane Lockhart was at the center of two intersecting arcs in the last batch of episodes, one involving the dissolution of her marriage to Republican, NRA executive Kurt McVeigh (Gary Cole), and the other tackling the growing threat of civil war in a politically-polarized country. “My central concern was the relationship with Kurt,” shares the actress, who explains that she felt...

There’s a shadow hanging over the 2023 Tony Awards, and we don’t just mean the WGA strike, which nearly derailed Broadway’s biggest night. In a Broadway season boasting three nonbinary actors in major musical roles, the Tonys continue to require performers to submit themselves in either of the gendered actor and actress categories.
Both Some Like It Hot’s J. Harrison Ghee and Shucked’s Alex Newell are frontrunners in the categories they selected, while Justin David Sullivan, who would have been eligible in one of the featured performer categories for & Juliet, removed themselves from consideration early in the season. This year, the Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards, which recognize both Broadway and Off Broadway productions, shed their gendered performance categories, allowing recent wins at both ceremonies for Ghee and Newell in all-gender fields.

“It grabbed my heart and just shook it,” reveals Audra McDonald of Adrienne Kennedy’s searing play “Ohio State Murders.” The six-time Tony Award winner initially participated in a reading of the script over Zoom, one of many plays producer Jeffrey Richards organized during the pandemic to keep folks engaged while theater was shuttered. “When we finished, I couldn’t breathe. I was so stunned, and my soul was so shaken by what I had just read that I couldn’t let it go,” admits McDonald. The actress immediately agreed to star in the searing drama, eventually earning her 10th career Tony nomination. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Even though it just recently debuted on Broadway, “Ohio State Murders” was first performed over 30 years ago. Its central figure, Suzanne, never leaves the stage and endures a horrific, unceasing wave of racism, misogyny, and violence. “I know that if I...

Talking about the importance of his win, McDonald said, “I also wanted people coming from the situation and the environment that I knew to be able to see someone who looks like them, who talk to them, who dresses like them in this position. You know, I didn’t care if I actually won first place or second. Novak Djokovic faced a very difficult test in the second round of the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters as he clashed with a player that had nothing to lose.
Ivan Gahkov is ranked 198th in the world and he went through the qualifying to book his main draw spot in Monte Carlo. After Brandon Nakashima, who was set to take on Mackenzie McDonald in the first round, was forced to withdraw from the tournament, Gakhov was matched with McDonald as the two fought for the second-round match against Djokovic.
After his win, the Russian spoke highly about the 22-time Grand Slam champion and called him the best player in the world, but once they stepped onto the court, he showed no excessive respect as he showed the world that he can play a very high-level tennis.

Matteo Berrettini arrived at the 2023 Miami Open hoping to turn his fortunes around after a string of disappointing performances.
However, his aspirations were left unfulfilled as American Mackenzie McDonald delivered a stunning upset, defeating Berrettini in a nail-biting match that went the distance in both sets.
Injuries plagued Berrettini throughout 2022, and his recent struggles have left fans and tennis enthusiasts questioning his form. Just weeks ago, he was ousted in the first round at Indian Wells by Taro Daniel. Undeterred, Berrettini entered a so-called second-chance tournament in Phoenix, only to face elimination in the quarterfinals.
Eager to reclaim his winning ways, Berrettini squared off against McDonald in the second round of the Miami Open. The match proved to be a rollercoaster of emotions with a great atmosphere. Despite being played in the United States, it seemed like it was contested in Rome in Italy as Berrettini enjoyed massive support.

The "Fletch" movies have always been the product of turmoil. I.M. Fletcher, a hybrid private eye and journalist, made his first appearance in Gregory McDonald's 1974 novel "Fletch," following the investigator as he looks into a shady but tempting offer from a fat cat billionaire. His big-screen debut came in Michael Ritchie's ("Bad News Bears") 1985 feature of the same name, starring Chevy Chase in the lead role of the loose adaptation; it was a box-office smash. Four years later, the sequel "Fletch Lives" saw Chase and Ritchie reprising their respective roles in a follow-up Roger Ebert once described as a "dispirited slog through the rummage sale of movie cliches."
Since then, Fletch has undergone more iterations than his numerous implausible identities. The most talked about version is Kevin Smith's unproduced "Fletch Won," which he envisioned as a Miramax vehicle for "Mallrats" star and frequent Smith collaborator Jason Lee.

Melbourne, Jan 19 (Ians) World No. 2 Rafael Nadal is expected to be out of action for six to eight weeks after sustaining a grade 2 injury during his second loss at the Australian Open.
In Wednesday’s match at 3-4 in the second set against Mackenzie McDonald, the Spaniard chased a forehand wide and aggravated the injury that he admitted he had felt for a couple of days.
“Good afternoon. I have carried out medical tests after the defeat yesterday. The Mri shows a grade 2 lesion in the Iliacus Psoas of the left leg. Now it’s sports rest and anti-inflammatory physiotherapy. Normal recovery time 6 to 8 weeks,” Nadal tweeted.
The iliopsoas muscle is located in the hip. Nadal was trailing 4-6, 3-5 when he took a medical time-out after moving to his left to chase a forehand and pulled up in pain with an apparent upper left leg injury.

Melbourne, Jan 18 (Ians) Reigning men’s singles champion Rafael Nadal crashed out of the Australian Open in the second round. The 22-time Grand Slam winner was labouring with injury in a straight-sets loss to American Mackenzie McDonald at Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday.
Nadal was trailing 4-6, 3-5 when he took a medical time-out after moving to his left to chase a forehand and pulled up in pain with an apparent upper left leg injury.
The 36-year-old Spaniard returned to play out the match but he was clearly not 100 per cent physically fit for the rest of the match and McDonald wrapped up the win 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 in two hours and 32 minutes.
McDonald did not shy away from Nadal’s forehand and the Spaniard was not able to consistently put the World No. 65 on the back foot. The American hit 42 winners to just 22 unforced errors to earn the biggest win of his career.

Kids vs. Aliens gets off to a promising start as the crew of a fishing boat witness a UFO splashdown near them and are quickly decimated by its occupants. The scene then cuts rather jarringly to Gary his friends Miles (Ben Tector) and Jack along with his older sister Samantha (Phoebe Rex) making a super 8 post-apocalyptic epic.
After their shoot is disrupted by neighbourhood bully Billy and his friends Sam finds herself interested in things other than filmmaking. There are just two problems. One, Billy is only interested in one thing, well two things, he also wants her to let him throw a Halloween party at her house while her parents are away. Two, or I guess three now, the aliens plan on attending as well.

This week in Hollywood was packed to the gills with parties, screenings combined with glad-handing receptions, luncheons, galas, you name it, as awards season shifted into high gear. The Golden Globe Awards came back, with nary a swag suite nor a studio afterparty in the usually packed Beverly Hilton environs and low ratings on the NBC broadcast. Will they be back next year? If all the stars who Did show up and cried when they won have a say, the answer is apparently “yes.”

Shooter McGavin from the Adam Sandler flick "Happy Gilmore" might just be Christopher McDonald's most memorable character. If nothing else, he's certainly the most quotable. Fittingly we have McDonald's performance in a golf tournament to thank for that. This is Shooter's tour, after all.
It's probably because "Happy Gilmore" is a sports comedy, but quite frankly, Shooter McGavin doesn't get enough credit as a great all-time villain. The stickler for golf etiquette disparages his own fans, insults his fellow golfers, pouts when he loses, fires air pistols in the most annoying way, and worst of all kicks old ladies out of their homes. Well, at least one that we know of (Happy's grandmother) but we certainly wouldn't put it past him to discover there are others.
The point is, McGavin deserves to be on any respectable top movie villain list. According to a 2016 fan vote through Barstool Sports,...

The show was the first to be staged in the newly renamed theater on W. 48th St. The show officially opened Dec. 8 following previews, which began Nov. 11, and was originally scheduled to close Feb. 12.
McDonald portrays writer Suzanne Alexander, who has returned to her alma mater to appear as a guest speaker discussing the violence in her work. Update, with new Collaboration closing date: Ohio State Murders, the play starring Audra McDonald that made history by being the first Broadway production of acclaimed 91-year-old playwright Adrienne Kennedy, will play its final performance on Sunday, January 15.
Though generally well-reviewed, Ohio State Murders has struggled at the box office, grossing just 311,893 for nine-performances during Broadway’s generally lucrative New Year’s week. Attendance for the week, which ended Jan. 1, was only 49 of capacity at the recently renamed James Earl Jones Theatre.
Directed by Kenny Leon, Ohio State Murders starred McDonald as a writer and lecturer coming to terms with a horrific incident from her past: the murders of her two infant daughters. The production also featured Bryce Pinkham, Lizan Mitchell, Mister Fitzgerald, and Abigail Stephenson, with understudies Brett Diggs, Brooke Gardner, Christian Pedersen and Gayle Samuels.

“The Good Fight” saved its best and most audacious for last. In the exemplary series finale “The End of Everything,” which aired on Thursday, the lawyers at Reddick Ri’Chard signed off in a frenzy of gunfire, as white supremacists opened fire on the Black law firm at the heart of the show. The shocking climax served as a fitting and almost inevitable end to a six-season run that has chronicled the dismantling of civil discourse, judicial norms and the rise of violence in American society. The episode is also, paradoxically, a joyous end to one of the most original and daring series of the streaming era.
Before the supremely tense attack — which beautifully recreated the Paramount+ show’s main titles by having the gunfire explode the vases, televisions, law books and tumblers of the opening credits — the episode finds Christine Baranski’s Diane Lockhart at personal and professional crossroads.

Spoiler Alert: This piece contains spoilers from the series finale of “The Good Fight,” which is now available to stream on Paramount+.
The last glimpse that “The Good Fight” gives us of Diane Lockhart is, at least, a fitting one. Exhausted on every level, but resigned to keep marching forward anyway, Diane (Christine Baranski) and her law firm partner Liz (Audra McDonald) trudge back up the stairs to their office — only to get stopped in their tracks by the news alert that Donald Trump is about to run again for president. Baranski unfurls a low laugh and one of her signature smirks — equal parts rueful and reluctantly amused — and that’s it. That’s all “The Good Fight,” and a character Baranski has been playing for nigh on 14 years, wrote.

Sydney, Nov 8 (Ians) Former Australian allrounder Simon O’Donnell firmly believes when players, rather than head coaches, start taking key decisions about the team, things can get “murky”, and attributes Australia’s premature exit from the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup at home to chief coach Andrew McDonald giving in to players’ opinions.
The 59-year-old veteran of 87 ODIs and six Tests has also expressed serious doubts over McDonald’s ability to lead the national side. McDonald was appointed head coach — first on an interim basis and then in the long term — by Cricket Australia (CA) after Justin Langer stepped down from his role as a short-term, six-month stint wasn’t agreeable to him.
Players were reportedly unhappy with Langer’s micromanagement of the team and things came to a boil on a couple occasions during his four-year stint beginning in 2018. Cricket Australia (CA) had to intervene to bring about harmony in the side.

“What do you do when the world is falling apart around you?” is a question “The Good Fight” has been spending five years answering. First came the daily anxieties of the previous presidential administration, which gave way to daily anxieties about the pandemic. In the opening of Season 6, all of those issues are made manifest in an unending state of unrest in the streets outside the law offices of Reddick and Associates. Through all the explosions and horns and other noise coming from the area right beyond the walls of the ground floor, life goes on for the people inside.
But it’s not the additional chaos that’s standing out in the show’s final season. Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski), Liz Reddick (Audra McDonald) and their fellow associates aren’t succumbing to the pressures of white supremacy, corporate takeovers, and eroding rights. Sydney, Oct 20 (Ians) Ahead of their first Super 12 match in Icc Men’s T20 World Cup against New Zealand here on Saturday, Australia have announced all-rounder Cameron Green as a replacement for injured Josh Inglis in their 15-man squad, with the approval of the Event Technical Committee.
Inglis, the wicketkeeper-batter who has played nine T20Is for Australia and was seen as a backup to the main keeper Matthew Wade, suffered a freak injury while playing golf in Sydney on Wednesday. He sustained a deep cut in his right hand when his golf club snapped at the shaft and sliced through, resulting in surgery being needed for the same and requiring stitches.
Green, who has seven T20I appearances, hit two half-centuries for Australia when filling in for veteran opener David Warner at the top of the order during their bilateral T20I series against India in September. Australia may...

Sydney, Oct 20 (Ians) Australia wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis has been ruled out of the Men’s T20 World Cup after suffering a hand injury, which head coach Andrew McDonald called “an incredibly freak accident” while playing golf in Sydney.
Inglis, who has played nine T20Is for Australia, sustained a deep cut in his right hand when his golf club snapped at the shaft and sliced through. His exit from the tournament now sees Australia in a conundrum on who would be the preferred injury replacement.
“An incredibly freak accident to Josh, unfortunately. Playing the second hole at New South Wales, a short par three, he hit a six iron and as he made contact with the ground, the shaft snapped around the grip area and cut into his hands. It’s not looking good for Josh,” said McDonald on Sen Radio’s Whateley show.

Paramount Global’s Channel 5 is well known for its love of luxury cruise liners and its next drama series will be set aboard one sailing the Mediterranean Seas.
The British network has ordered Hms Murder (working title), an eight-part murder mystery series from by UK indie Clapperboard, in association with Endeavor Content, that’s been billed as “Murder She Wrote meets Below Deck.”
Set aboard a luxury cruise liner touring Mediterranean holiday hotspots, it follows the ship’s new cabaret singer, Jack Grayling, who discovers there are sinister elements below the surface. After a passenger is found murdered in the first port of call, ambitious First Officer Kate Woods’ dream of her own command is thrown into jeopardy and Jack finds himself thrust back into his former life as a detective. A wave of murder mysteries follows — each set against the backdrop of a different stunning coastal destination.

For over four decades, character actor Christopher McDonald has maintained a reputation as a reliable portrayer of smarmy scoundrels, with his quintessential role being that of Shooter McGavin in 1996’s “Happy Gilmore.” His hundreds of film and TV projects have allowed him to both expand his range and perfect the practice of mining nuggets of humanity from his usually roguish characters. Now, he has finally caught the attention of Emmy voters in the Best Comedy Guest Actor category for the HBO Max comedy series “Hacks.”
McDonald has appeared in 11 “Hacks” episodes as Marty Ghilain, the CEO of the fictional Palmetto casino in Las Vegas. Throughout the show’s two seasons, Ghilain has been involved in a power struggle with the Palmetto’s former headliner, stand-up comic Deborah Vance (Jean Smart). In “The One, the Only” (the second season finale that serves as McDonald’s episode submission), the pair of frenemies...

By 1972, 20th Century Fox was no longer dithering over each movie in the Planet of the Apes franchise. Following the success of 1970’s Beneath the Planet of the Apes, which the studio had been prepared to write off as a disaster, and 1971’s Escape from the Planet of the Apes, they had begun thinking about more than the current movie at hand. Thus the ending of the latter film expressly set up a fourth entry in the series: baby Milo, the offspring of the intelligent apes from the future, Cornelius (Rodney McDowall) and Zira (Kim Hunter), manages to survive his parents’ brutal murder when he is hidden away in a circus.
Sure enough, screenwriter Paul Dehn was asked to immediately get to work on a new story following Escape‘s release. The next one would follow Milo, renamed Caesar by circus owner Armando (Ricardo Montalban), as he laid the groundwork...

For over a decade and on two different series, Christine Baranski’s attorney Diane Lockhart has been a paragon of liberal feminism. But in the fifth season of Paramount+’s “The Good Fight,” the Emmy-winning actress took the character into a new, daring and even uncomfortable direction as the show explored Diane’s privilege. After sitting out the past five Emmy cycles for this performance — even as she continues to bring her signature character to new heights — Baranski has more than earned a slot in this year’s Drama Actress lineup for her nuanced and thrilling work this season.
Baranski had two major intersecting storylines in the critically-acclaimed fifth season. In the first, her staunch Republican husband Kurt (Gary Cole) gets embroiled in the FBI’s investigation of the Jan. 6 insurrection after a man he trained at a shooting range was photographed at the capitol. Diane’s utter disgust at...
