A crowd protesting the Dodgers’ decision to invite the controversial Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to its “Pride Night” has gathered outside Dodger Stadium today.
The assembly is taking place hours before the 7:10 first pitch of the team’s game against the San Francisco Giants.
The “Catholics for Catholics” organization is the organizer of the protest, which so far appears peaceful and without opposition. Most fans attending tonight’s game will not show up for several hours.
Protesters are currently at Parking Lot 13 outside Dodger Stadium. Whether they will attempt to disrupt arrivals outside the stadium or protest inside has not been revealed.
The protest is the latest marker on what’s become a public relations nightmare for the Dodgers. They disinvited the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to “Pride Night” when Catholics initially protested their involvement, then reinvited them when gay rights organizations threatened to pull out of the event.

Buenos Aires' Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio is now Pope Francis. The papal conclave elected a new pope on Day 2, the first full day of deliberations in Vatican City. White smoke poured out of the chimney at the Sistine Chapel Wednesday (March 13) to signal the successor to Pope Benedict XVI was chosen.
The bells of St. Peter's Basilica rang out to accompany the smoke signal. One day prior, the 115 senior cardinals of the conclave failed to come to agreement on the new pontiff, a decision that would require a two-thirds majority in the secret ballot process. On Tuesday night, black smoke poured from the chimney of the Sistine, indicating no new pope yet.
The new head of the Roman Catholic church will lead 1.2 billion worldwide members. The church is not without controversy, and at 85-years-old, Pope Benedict indicated he was no longer physically up to the burden. He announced his resignation in February.

2016 Obama’s America vs. Fahrenheit 9/11 Dinesh D’Souza and John Sullivan’s right-wing documentary 2016 Obama’s America had a solid first-wide-weekend run in North America on the eve of the Republican National Convention currently being held in Tampa, Florida. (To be blessed by the Archbishop of New York Timothy Dolan, too!) Though closer to the lower end of expectations, 2016 Obama’s America earned $6.5m at 1,091 locations according to Box Office Mojo, averaging $5,966 per site. That was the highest average among the top 25 movies on the domestic box-office chart. (A little context: This past weekend was 2012′s very worst at the domestic box [...]...

Hazy Mills, the Sean Hayes production company that's behind Hot In Cleveland and Grimm, has just signed a new overall deal with Universal TV. His partner Todd Millner says a new multi-camera comedy is high on the production list, as is getting Hayes back in front of the camera. “We’ve got to get Sean Hayes back on television and out of the office. It’s great having him in the office but he is a sitcom star.”

Chicago – Americans, as everybody knows, are obsessed with weight issues and dieting. It is a society that has obesity and anorexia as opposing problems, has restaurants that pride themselves in huge portions and watches a TV program called “The Biggest Loser.” Chicagoan Darryl Roberts gets weighty in “America the Beautiful 2: The Thin Commandments.”
Rating: 2.5/5.0
This is his second documentary called “America the Beautiful.” The first one dealt with the idealization of beauty in this country, and interviewed magazine editors, academics and modeling agencies. This second doc takes the same approach, but this time it is about weight obsession. It is not as effective as the first film, and is weakened by a constant focus on Robert’s own battle of the bulge. It jumps around from topic to topic, with no focus on the thesis – which in the end is acceptance of oneself and others, despite weight difficulties.

Chicago – Darryl Roberts is a man on a mission. In 2007, he made a documentary called “America the Beautiful,’ in which he explored the beauty industry in this country, and its effect on perceptions. In his new film “America the Beautiful 2: The Thin Commandments” he takes on the weight loss obsession and the industries associated with it.
Roberts uses a participation style in his documentaries, much like Michael Moore. In his latest effort, he is even more evident, as he chronicles his health concerns in dealing with his own weight. He also uses some new facts, surprising interviews and exposure of statistics that are counter to the general awareness of obesity and weight issues, both on the medical and commerce side.

Monster Mutt
Stars: Rhiannon Leigh Wryn, Billy Unger, Zack Ward, Brian Stepanek, Juliet Landau | Written by Timothy Dolan | Directed by Todd Tucker
I’ll admit it, ever since I heard that Monster Mutt was being released I’ve been chomping at the bit (pardon the pun) to watch it. Why? Well the film was described to me as a family-friendly 80s throwback featuring a giant dog that was all puppet and no CGI. 80s? No CGI? Sounds like a dream combo to me… And thankfully I wasn’t disappointed.
Monster Mutt tells the story of the Taylor family, more pointedly the two Taylor children Ashley (Wryn) and Zach (Unger) and their beloved, and clever, family pet Max who is kidnapped by the evil Sirus Caldwell (Ward) and subjected to a bizarre experimental injection that sees Max transformed into the eponymous monster mutt. With a little help from scientist Dr. Victor...

Get out a tissue, and head over to watch the video for Paws Up Forever Project, inspired by Lady Gaga's Make a Law for Jamey campaign. These kids are something else. I don't know what I was doing at their age, but it wasn't this.
Speaking of Lady Gaga, she's set to premiere another short film at Paris Fashion Week with the Mugler Women's Wear Collection Show.
In France, if you want to know if your son is gay, there's an app for that. Well, if you've got Android, there's an app for that. Just answer a series of questions about stereotypes, and it will tell you if you need to pack your son off to reparative therapy.
Ugly Betty's Ana Ortiz has given birth to a healthy baby boy. Sadly, she didn't name him Justin, which would have been perfect.

If you want to know how influential being out can be, just read about Aussie diver Nick Pirie, who switched up from swimming to diving after being inspired by Matthew Mitcham. When he says his favorite dive is an “inward tuck” his fans shout “he’s a drag queen.”
Somewhat less inspiring is this story about how The Ali Forney Center stands to lose 19 of 57 beds for Glbt homeless youth under Gov. Cuomo’s budget cuts, while millionaires complain about having to scrape by on a mere $10 million after taxes each year.
Tom Hardy gets nekkid in his new short film. Like full-frontal nekkid. The link is no more Nsfw than our Briefs Guy, but let’s you click through to see the full goods.

In the spirit of Halloween '09, we're breaking out reviews (some new, some old) of some Fall Frights you may want to work into your monthly viewing.
Originally Published in February, 2008:
I have to be honest: I wasn’t looking forward to seeing this film, despite the buzz at the Slamdance Film Festival, where I caught its premiere last week. At the fest’s headquarters at the Treasure Mountain Inn in Park City, Utah, the place was awash with half-drunk weirdos pumped to catch the late-night screening. I hid my press badge, hoping to avoid any conversation about what was sure to be a stinker—how could it not be with a title like Trailer Park Of Terror? Settling into my uncomfortable seat in the makeshift theater, I sighed and waited for the war between sleep and cinematic schlock to begin. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Where in the hell did this movie come from?
When I requested a copy of Trailer Park of Terror to review, I knew two things about it. First off, I had heard it was actually pretty fun, and the quotes on the box seemed better than you’d expect. Secondly, I knew it had a lot of gore. What I was expecting to be an adequate 90 minutes with some amusing kills turned out to be, well, something pretty damned great. I mean… I mean it was pretty damned great.
A 15, 20 minute opening sequence taking place years before the rest of the film sets the rather moody tone. With the whole cast speaking in thick Southern drawls, the lack of excessive camp is really refreshing. Sure, the dialogue throughout the film is funny, but it’s more clever than you’d expect, and never out-and-out mood breaking. The cast, I should mention,...
