Rowan Atkinson, who is generally worldwide as Mr. Bean, is said to be the man who made the world laugh without saying a single word. His laconic style of comedy has been very captivating to the audience, and he is much loved and recognized everywhere. The original Mr. Bean sketch also gave rise to some live-action shows and animated series that retained the spark Mr. Bean has. However, Atkinson’s career does not reside just in his Mr. Bean sketches and Johnny English shows. There are still some interesting aspects of his life that go beyond his comedy roles. This list...

When the United Kingdom crowned its new king in May, the coronation ceremony aired for seven and a half hours straight on three of the UK’s four major terrestrial TV channels. On the fourth? The aptly titled Johnny English Strikes Again, after a quadruple-bill of Frasier. Nothing like a bit of counterprogramming.
While His Majesty Johnny English’s fussy pomp was striking again all over the TV schedules then, those who chose to could bend the knee and recite an oath of allegiance to our true king: Dr Frasier Crane.
Channel 4’s tradition of airing a Frasier double-bill* every morning has been going since records began. It may not be quite as old as the orb and sceptre routine, but it’s much more important to the national mood. On a sick day, on a well day, on high days and holidays, Frasier is there. After creating so many cinematic memories on the big screen, the James Bond franchise is celebrating its 60th anniversary. While news of what comes next for the saga is pretty thin at the moment, there is one certainty about what’s in store: The next James Bond will boast some intriguing, fun, and altogether dangerous gadgets.
It’s become a staple of the series, with the genre as a whole looking to the James Bond movies for inspiration when crafting their own equipment. While the likes of the Kingsman and Johnny English series might have taken some of the gadgets a step further into comedic territory, the devices that 007 uses throughout his adventures can often be grounded in a hyper-reality that pulls from real-world technology but are defined by an imaginative edge. These designs were memorable for their uses in the field and how cool they truly are as a concept.

James Bond is dead. Blown up by a big old bunch of missiles to destroy the nanobots he was infected with.
At least, this Bond, the one played by Daniel Craig, is dead. He’s also the Bond who we first met beating up a guy in a toilet in the moody black and white opening of Casino Royale. And with him dies the first properly 21st-century take on Bond, hailed as a complete reinvention of the character despite being written by the same screenwriters who supposedly killed the franchise in fans’ minds with Die Another Day.
This Bond was fresh, new, and yet also harked back to the origins of the character—adapting Ian Fleming’s very first Bond novel to create an origin story for the agent (at a time when those were very in vogue).
Where previous Bonds were strapped to a table with a laser beam pointed at their crotch,...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t yet watched the final episode of “Man vs Bee.”
It was three years ago that director David Kerr unexpectedly got a call from an old producer colleague, Chris Clark, with whom he’d worked on 2018’s “Johnny English” sequel “Johnny English Strikes Again.” Clark had been developing an idea with “Johnny English” and “Mr Bean” star Rowan Atkinson and wondered if Kerr would be interested in helming the project.
“It was a really simple premise,” Kerr tells Variety. “You’ve got this man in a fancy house full of priceless artwork, with a tiny antagonist. But I can immediately see that it was potentially a wonderful vehicle for Rowan, and for his unique talent.”
The next step was to convene with Atkinson, one of Britain’s most famous and reclusive comedians, in his garden (thanks to Covid-19 restrictions) to discuss Atkinson’s character,...

"You see... there was this bee." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a fun comedy series titled Man vs Bee, the return of kooky British comedian Rowan Atkinson making us laugh even more. "A comedy series that will get the whole family buzzing." Atkinson last made the Johnny English Strikes Again movie in 2018, and has been doing a few other Mr Bean comedies recently, including the "Handy Bean" series. In this one, he doesn't play Mr. Bean specifically, but it still looks fun as he gets into more trouble. A man finds himself at war with a bee while housesitting a luxurious mansion. Who will win, and what irreparable damage will be done in the process? In addition to Atkinson, the cast includes Jing Lusi, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Greg McHugh, India Fowler, Claudie Blakley, & Tom Basden. This actually looks much better than Johnny English or Mr Bean, and everyone can...

As regular as Christmas clockwork, no sooner do the evenings begin to draw in and the firesides begin to warm the house with their soft glow, the seasonal TV and movie schedules come out. We all have our yuletide favourites – well-remembered classics from our childhood which sit alongside more recent festive fare – but one story reigns high above all else as the perfect Christmas tale.
Alastair Sim – putting the Og in ScroOGe back in ’51.
There have been many dozens of adaptations of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol over the years. Some set their scene in the traditional Victoriana of Dickens’ tale, others go farther afield, gender-swapping Scrooge or even anthropomorphise him as with the 1998 video classic – An All Dogs Christmas Carol. Anyone can be rich and redeemed! Those interested in becoming as wealthy as Mr. S can stop off at refuelcasino to try their hand at amassing their own well-stocked counting house.

Growing up in a traditional Chinese (and predominantly Mandarin speaking) household and under a father who loved the comedy and action genres, references to Stephen Chow, Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Jackie Chan always spring up from time to time. Having inherited my father’s love for comedy, my family would never miss out on a chance to catch a Chinese comedy flick whenever one aired on television. As much as Rowan Atkinson (who has played the characters of Mr. Bean and Johnny English) is recognised as an irreplaceable icon of British comedy, I firmly believe that Stephen Chow is the same for Hong Kong cinema.

Out of the numerous films that Stephen Chow has starred in, Jeffrey Lau’s “A Chinese Odyssey Part 1: Pandora’s Box” continues to be one of the most intriguing and timeless in both its plot and humour.

Rosamund Pike is currently enjoying a global audience with the Netflix hit “I Care a Lot,” in which she stars as a shady legal guardian who drains the bank accounts of her elderly wards. Recent press has afforded her the opportunity to look back at her career as an Oscar nominee for “Gone Girl,” and more, including a role in the 2011 action comedy “Johnny English Reborn.” Speaking virtually on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Pike took the chance to address an issue she’s hinted at before, which is her body being altered and photoshopped for the poster of that movie.
“For the poster for Johnny English [Reborn], my breasts were augmented,” she said. “In the poster for the character shot, I have got a very impressive chest, which I don’t have.”

Actor Rowan Atkinson is globally loved for playing Mr Bean, but he says he finds portraying the character stressful and exhausting.

Netflix announced Sunday that it is starting development on seven new shows that will be filmed in the U.K., with Andy Serkis, Rowan Atkinson and “1917” director Sam Mendes among the attached talent.
The shows will be developed by the streamer’s vice president of U.K. Original Series, Anne Mensah and will be produced alongside upcoming seasons of shows like “The Crown” and “Sex Education.”
“Setting up a team entirely based in the U.K. was always about being able to better connect to the fantastic program makers we have here — to provide a space for writers, producers, directors and actors that feels local, friendly and familiar but also provides talent the opportunity to make shows that will impact on a global scale. This Sunday’s a pretty notable one for Netflix as the streaming giant has just added three big, but totally different, movies. One is an Oscar-winning smash hit, another is a franchise-starting British comedy and the third is a big budget fantasy mega-flop. Let’s go through them in chronological order, shall we?
First off, 2003’s Johnny English drops on Netflix today. Mr. Bean’s Rowan Atkinson stars as the titular bumbling British spy in this James Bond spoof that eventually formed a trilogy – with 2011’s Johnny English Reborn and 2018’s Johnny English Strikes Again, which were both just as commercially successful. In this one, though, English must stop evil Pascal Sauvage (John Malkovich) from seizing the throne.

With the exception of niche services like the horror-centric Shudder or DC Universe, the latter of which looks like it could be on its way out anyway, all of the major streaming services pride themselves on offering a wide array of content from almost every genre, which is pretty understandable when the name of the game is to scoop up as many paying customers as possible.
The streaming wars have only started to really heat up over the last couple of years and it seems the idea is to give subscribers a buffet of options that tick every conceivable box depending what they’re in the mood for at any given time. Of course, Netflix is still the leader in this regard and they’ve added three movies today that perfectly exemplify this approach, as they couldn’t be any more different.

Netflix‘s new releases for August 2020 should be a hell of a good time.
How else are we supposed to describe the month that features the long-awaited arrival of Lucifer season 5? Yes, ol’ Lucy finally returns on August 21 for what is now the penultimate season of the show.
While Lucifer is the main highlight of Netflix’s original offerings on August, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some other intriguing options to stream. The Rain season 3 arrives on August 6, Wizards: Tales of Arcadia on August 7, and Teenage Bounty Hunters on August 14. That’s not even to mention a potential blockbuster movie in the form of the Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt starring Project Power.
In August, Netflix also continues its high-profile poaching of other worthwhile properties as well. August sees the arrival of both The Legend of Korra and Cobra Kai, opening up two worthwhile series to an even wider streaming audience.

I did a double take when I saw the headline myself. Despite only launching a week ago, a not inconsiderable number of titles will be leaving HBO Max at the end of June. Logically, distribution contracts that were already running out weren’t going to stop running out just because Warner launched their new service, so you best get on these quick.
Here’s the list of all the movies leaving HBO Max on June 30th:
The Abyss
Akeelah and the Bee
American Wedding
An Ideal Husband
Arthur
Asylum
The Beverly Hillbillies
The Big Green
Blindspotting
Bye Bye, Love
Empire of the Sun
Glengarry Glen Ross
Grandma’s Boy
Great Expectations
A Handful of Dust
Head Full of Honey
Heaven & Earth
Hellboy
The Hoax
I Love You Phillip Morris
Indignation
Jiminy Glick in Lalawood
Jobs
Johnny English
Keeping Up with the Steins

The $16.7 billion Asia Pacific market is the world’s No. 1 box office region, commanding a 40.6% share of the global total despite trade tensions between the U.S. and China, Mpa and former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd said at the Asia Society’s U.S.-Asia Entertainment Summit in Los Angeles.
“Whether you like it or not, U.S.-China relations are affecting the Asia Pacific region big-time” and will be the key factor shaping its future in 2020 both geopolitically and in terms of the entertainment industry, Rudd said. Unfortunately, that relationship is “getting to be increasingly difficult at a structural level” as the dynamic is “taking an increasingly ideological turn.”
Nevertheless, Rudd expressed a measured optimism that, given the U.S. and China’s interdependence, “to say we are on a path towards economic decoupling is a vast overstatement of reality.”
