TV Fanatic had the pleasure of speaking with director David Winning about Hallmark's latest Fall Into Love feature, Field Day.
Winning has a long, successful string of Hallmark movies on his resume, but charming rom-coms weren't his first foray into directing.
Making his mark in the sci-fi genre, directing episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark, Stargate: Atlantis, and Van Helsing, his resume boasts a diverse array of productions that almost seem at odds with the heartfelt Hallmark universe.
So, how did Winning find himself so far from the sci-fi realm? We talked with him about that and much more in our exclusive interview.
For more information on Field Day, please visit our exclusive clip of the delightful movie, which stars Rachel Boston, Benjamin Ayres, Shannon Chen-Kent, and Carmel Amit.

Hallmark's latest autumn offering, airing Saturday, October 14 at 8/7c on Hallmark Channel, reminds us of the very best the season has to offer. Fall colors elicit the coziness of the season, and when they talk about pumpkin, you will swear you can smell it in the air.
Field Day follows a budding female friendship forming between three moms when they find themselves volunteering for what everyone considers the worst Parent Teacher Organization (Pto) committee.
Rachel Boston, Shannon Chen-Kent, and Carmel Amit star in this movie, poised to become an annual classic.
Ask anyone, and they'll tell you that planning a school event is hard!
Not only do you want to make your school proud, but you want to be seen as competent in the eyes of your fellow school parents and cool in your kids' eyes.
Jen (Rachel Boston) and her daughter have just moved to town, so making an impression counts.

The More Love Grows premieres tonight at 9/8c on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
The film stars Rachel Boston and Warren Christie as two parents at a crossroads in life who become friends through a lost dog. Their characters grow closer as they are empowered to take their lives in new directions.
We had the chance to chat with The More Love Grows director, Heather Hawthorn Doyle, who is currently filming another project for the network, and she shared her insights into bringing this emotional story to life.
The More Love Grows is delightful. What was your initial vision of the writer’s work?
Okay, you know, what I loved about reading this script? Is it hit on all three things that I look for, which is how's it gonna look visually? What kind of actors are we going to be able to put in these roles? And does it move me emotionally?...

This isn’t your typical Hallmark love story. In The More Love Grows (premiering August 18 at 9/8c on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries), Rachel Boston stars as Helen, whose husband Paul (Patrick Gilmore) unexpectedly tells her he wants a separation after they move their daughter Aly (Roan Curtis) into her college dorm. As Helen deals with that, a stray dog turns up on her doorstep, which leads her to veterinarian Ben (Warren Christie) … and possibly new love? Heather Hawthorn Doyle, who directed the film (and many others for Hallmark), shares what makes The More Love Grows stand out. What makes this movie stand out from others on Hallmark? Heather Hawthorn Doyle: The More Love Grows to me is such a beautiful film because it’s a multi-generational story. It’s a woman who is finding a new strength in power, regardless of things that are happening to her. It’s a...

Hallmark Christmas movies remain as cozy as ever, with tree-lighting, cookie-decorating and magical snowfall still the currency of the realm. But since the arrival of Wonya Lucas as the new CEO of Hallmark Media (formerly Crown Media) in 2020, the network’s offerings have branched out in many ways: Lots more diversity, of course — including, this year, Hallmark’s first holiday romance centered on a same-sex relationship and the network’s first film focused on Kwanzaa — but also new and different plots.
The memes show no sign of dying, but the movies themselves don’t always match the traditional roadmap. Two of this year’s new movies didn’t end with a kiss, a change previously unthinkable in Hallmark-land.
How do I know all this? Because I watched all 43 new 2022 Hallmark holiday movies (including the three that premiered in July on Hallmark Channel and the nine that premiered on Hallmark Movies...

We're still promoting Hallmark's latest royal holiday movie, A Christmas Carousel.
Neal Bledsoe plays the royal in question, Prince Wittaker, who discovers there is a lot of love in the world when you get to look beyond the walls of Ancadia.
Of course, it doesn't hurt that Rachel Boston's Lila gets called to the royal republic to help restore the beloved Ancadian carousel.
It's funny that Neal is playing a stodgy Prince when we first meet him in the film because he is as far from that description as you can get.
Our interview started with Neal connecting with me by name, finding something to say about my hometown (Go Steelers!), and joking around about his new royal title.

A Christmas Carousel is a new royal-themed holiday moving starring Rachel Boston.
Rachel took time out of her busy schedule to chat with us about the movie and her Christmas plans.
Known for her kindness, Rachel is warm and generous of her time, which is at a premium these days. We caught up with her just after she filmed a segment for Hallmark Channels Home & Family.
Rachel was part of a cooking segment, promoting Christmas with a dish featuring apple and fennel. Yum!
"Promoting Christmas right around Christmas has been remarkably exciting because you're already in the mood," Rachel said. Very often, filming for Christmas entertainment is done when the weather is anything but a chill in the air.
Not with A Christmas Carousel, though. "Actually this was the closest to Christmas I filmed so wearing the winter coats, it was actually winter," Rachel said. "It was really fun to be truly in the spirit.

CBS’ Seal Team, with three new episodes left to air in Season 3, has put much of Bravo Team in flux, juggling difficult decisions both professional and personal.
Sonny Quinn, for one, was detoured away from the latest deployment to J-bad (as punishment for a midseason bar brawl) and instead assigned to his home state of Texas. There, he has been forced to revisit his prickly relationship with his father Emmet (played by John Savage), as well as his cut-short connection with childhood friend Hannah (Rachel Boston).

For Seal Team‘s deployment to J-Bad, Bravo 6 pulled double duty, as cast member Max Thieriot also stepped behind the camera to direct his first episode of the CBS drama.
Having years ago helmed an episode of Bates Motel (where he played Norman’s half-brother Dylan), Thieriot tells TVLine that doing same for Seal Team was something he discussed when first enlisting with the high-octane drama. “Finally, the opportunity came up this season,” he shares. “They were like, ‘Hey you got [Episode] No. 17,’ and I was like, ‘Ok!’

Lifetime has decided not to renew its supernatural drama "Witches of East End" for a third season, effectively cancelling the show. Julia Ormond, Rachel Boston, Jenna Dewan Tatum and Madchen Amick starred in the series loosely based on Melissa de la Cruz's novels about a family of witches.
The first season averaged three million viewers an episode with more than half of them in the key demo. By the end of its second season run though, viewers had essentially abandoned the show with the October 3rd finale pulling in just over one million viewers in Live+Same Day ratings. [Source: THR]

Witches of East End told the story of the Beauchamp sisters and starred Julia Ormond as Joanna Beauchamp, Madchen Amick as Wendy, Jenna Dewan Tatum as Freya, Rachel Boston as Ingrid, Daniel Ditomasso as Killian, and Eric Winter as Dash. The show’s stars took to Twitter after the cancellation was official to express their disappointment that the series was over and thank their fellow Witches of East End cast members, the show’s crew, and, of course, its fans.
