Talk about traumatic!
NBC recently announced that they are canceling Trauma, their new show about paramedics set in San Francisco (although they have said they will air the remaining few episodes).
This is a shame for gay viewers, because the show's cast includes Tyler, a major gay character who is actually complicated and gets actual screentime. In the October 26th Halloween episode “Masquerade,” Tyler, played by Kevin Rankin, revealed a mask of a different kind when he came out to his riding partner, Boone, an African American man who is clearly uncomfortable with gays.
In other words, the show is "going there" on the complicated emotions and politics of homophobia in the African American community.
Recently, we talked to Kevin, who might also be familiar to viewers from his reoccurring role as a paralyzed athelete on Friday Night Lights. The interview took place before NBC had made a final decision regarding Trauma's fate. »

After picking up full seasons of Mercy, Community and Parks and Recreation just last week, NBC has decided to cancel Trauma, the fall TV series about a group of paramedics in San Francisco, California just a month following its September 28 premiere. According to the Hollywood Reporter, however, the network will finish producing the rest of the original 13-episode order of the medical drama, which stars Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, and Anastasia Griffith among others.

Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 »

Zachary Levi may reprise his role as Chuck Bartowski on some more episodes of "Chuck". According to THR, NBC has ordered six additional episodes of the show, bringing the series' total third-season order to 19 episodes.
Though the network has yet to give any official confirmation about the matter, several sources claim "this is a done deal." The new season of the hit NBC show will possibly be aired in January 2010 and may be partnered with Hayden Panettiere's TV series "Heroes", which is broadcast Monday nights.
"Chuck", which was first aired in September 2007, centers on Chuck Bartowski, a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. As the government's most precious secrets enter his head, Chuck has to be protected by CIA's top agents, Adam Baldwin's John Casey and Yvonne Strahovski's Sarah Walker.

***Spoilers*** This recap discusses pivotal plot points in last night's episode of Trauma.
Finally, the cat is out of the bag and we officially know which of Trauma's EMTs is also Lgbqt. Assuming you've been watching (not enough folks have as Trauma is on the verge of being canceled) simple deductive reasoning must've told you Tyler Briggs (Kevin Rankin) was our man. After all, he's the only one over the past four episodes to have had no personal life at all, and that's frequently a sign of imminent homosexuality
So it's Halloween in San Francisco which means the city is even kookier than normal — especially for Cameron Boone (Derek Luke), the paramedic Tyler usually works with. We've already had hints that Boone is a fairly religious fellow and when a gay couple who have a child that attends school with Boone's daughter, answer their door dressed as a chef »

Monday night, NBC premiered its second new medical drama of the season. So how did Trauma do? Will it survive the ratings war or, like so many other shows, is it dead on arrival?
Trauma follows the complicated lives of a group of brave paramedics from San Francisco. The action drama stars Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The show debuted on Monday night in Heroes' 9pm timeslot. At one point, Heroes could hold its own at 9pm on Mondays but those days are long gone. The peacock network is hoping that Trauma can take over. The numbers don't seem to be panning out that way unfortunately.
Trauma had a poor start and ended up in a poor fourth place for the timeslot, in both total viewers and »

When editor Michael Jensen scooped the exclusive news back in August that one of the paramedics in NBC's new show Trauma would be gay, we all had fun playing the guessing game as to who it would be.
Well, the show premiered last night ... and we're still playing the guessing game. But with what we now know, we can definitely narrow the field down.
Before we take a look at the frenetic events of last night's pilot (explosions, explosions, explosions! crisis! crisis! crisis!), let's reintroduce the cast, and see if we can "detect the gay!"
Boone (Derek Luke)
Boone is a paramedic, and haunted by the deaths of two colleagues a year ago. He can't bring bring his anxiety and depression home to his wife and kids, so he cheats with random women to relieve the pain (which is certainly an ... interesting excuse for cheating).
Gay Character? - highly unlikely. »

NBC's latest drama "Trauma" is the story of San Francisco medical-rescue team that premieres Monday night, September 28. Cliff Curtis is cast as Ruben "Rabbit" Palchuk, a chopper jockey; Derek Luke is cast as paramedic Cameron Boone, Taylor Kinney as Emt Glenn Morrison and Jamey Sheridan as Dr. Joseph Saviano. Aimee Garcia plays helicopter pilot Maria Benez. Action defines the frenetic series as the "Trauma" team, Medic 78, monitors the busy Bay Area. A huge part of why this show works on so many levels is not only a great cast, but top level crew, especially with Dp Oliver Bokelberg, who lensed "The Station Agent" and "The Visitor." Bokelberg shared with M&C that the pilot was shot in »

We’ve been pretty excited for NBC’s newest field/hospital drama Trauma, about a group of first responders in San Francisco, and the heroic feats they go through on a daily basis. Last week, we brought you a special sneak peak at the show’s pilot, and now there’s a brand new video podcast showing off Cameron Boone, one of the main characters of the show (played by Miracle at St. Anna’s Derek Luke).
The video podcast is a brief narrative in the voice of Cameron in which he talks about the things that go on for both him and the victims of a trauma. NBC has been on promotions overload with this new program, with the first four minutes of the premiere up on NBC.com. Also, they have stepped up the social networking of Trauma with both Facebook and Twitter pages for fans.

Chicago – The wave of new fall shows is coming to an end this week with so many shows having debuted to date that we’ve already had our first cancellation of the season (The CW’s horrible “The Beautiful Life). But NBC has saved one of the best for last in “Trauma,” an expertly produced and acted series that stands as the most promising of the three new medical series this season and arguably the show with the most long-term potential, period.
Television Rating: 4.0/5.0 Character-driven, ensemble dramas like “Trauma” have been the backbone of television for a very long time. From “Hill Street Blues” to “ER,” viewers like to watch people who go above and beyond but also have everyday problems and insecurities like you and me. We need to see ourselves in these superhuman characters. It is their willingness to do what most people won’t that makes them »

While lots of shows focus on medical emergencies inside the ER, NBC's Trauma is centered on the scene of the accident, star Derek Luke says. TVGuide.com caught up with Luke about how intense filming has been and why he chose this project as his transition from film to television.
TVGuide.com: What drew you to Trauma?
Derek Luke: I happened to work with one of the producers before, Pete Berg, [who] directed me in Friday Night Lights. I thought who best to understand me coming from film and...we had the same goals to inspire. I never felt like I was leaving film to come to TV. I always felt that because the stakes were so high...

NBC seems to be pulling out all the stops promoting its new Fall shows. Well, at least some of them because they keep sending us new promos for the shows pretty much weekly and, of course, we’ll keep putting them up so you can get a look at them. This time around we’ve got a couple looks at both Trauma and Mercy — two of the networks freshmen medical dramas — for you today. In these clips, more sneak peek at actual things going on in the shows than traditional promos, we get further information about the characters and situations that we can expect when watching them.
Its been a while since I really liked a medical drama having given up on shows like Grey’s Anatomy and ER long ago. But after seeing all the promos and such for these two shows I’m still kinda interested in both of them. »

Stars Cliff Curtis, Aimee Garcia and executive producer Dario Scardapane recently held a conference call to discuss the new series, and here's what they had to say.
Dario, when you were conceiving the show, you know, there's already so many medical shows out there right now and there's Nurse Jackie and Hawthorne just finished up and NBC also has Mercy coming and CBS has Three Rivers. You know, why did you decide you wanted to do another medical show?
Dario Scardapane: Well because we didn't want to do another medical show. In a lot of ways, you know, you look »

Premieres Monday, September 28 (9/8c) on NBC
Mercy isn't the only new medical drama that NBC is commissioning the 2009 fall season. It's also backing Trauma, a new series that they hope will replace the fifteen-year-old behemoth, ER, which ended last year.
But unlike its sister show, Trauma's primary action won't take place in the hospital. It revolves around a group of paramedics, and most of it will take place out in the field. So, in a way, it'll be more easily compared to Rescue Me than Mercy, simply due to fact that paramedics, like firefighters, are essential in the aftermaths of accidents and disasters.
Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) executive produces "Trauma", a medical drama series that follows first-responder paramedics in the San Francisco Bay area. Stars Derek Luke ("Notorious"), Cliff Curtis ("10,000 B.C"), Anastasia Griffith ("Damages"), Aimee Garcia ("George Lopez"), Kevin Rankin ("Friday Night Lights") and Jamey Sheridan ("Law »

Our good friends at NBC have sent us a whole bunch of brand new promos for their upcoming shows debuting this Fall. One will look familiar to you and the other two are brand new, but all three look to try and up the ante for scripted network drama this season.

In these, we get to see which characters are coming back this time and also watch as Peter takes on a new and dangerous power.
