- Chris Bartholomew studied music composition at, and graduated from, the University Of Southern California, where he was awarded the Hans Salter scholarship upon admission. Principal teachers there included Erica Muhl, Frederick Lesemann, John Barnett and Neal Desby. At USC, he also completed a dissertation-length paper on composer and bandleader Don Ellis' film score to the William Friedkin directed film The French Connection, with the guidance of noted film music journalist and historian Jon Burlingame. As the centerpiece of that project, Chris had the rare privilege of interviewing Mr. Friedkin, as well as many musicians associated with the scoring sessions. He completed additional studies at the University Of California, Los Angeles, where he studied film scoring under the auspices of the late Jerry Goldsmith, as well as Charles Fox. At UCLA, he also studied choral conducting under the legendary Don Neuen, and composition under Paul Reale and Tamar Diesendruck.
Prior to the completion of his degree at USC, he was hired by renowned composer Ron Jones to be his personal assistant on the Fox TV show "Family Guy," as well as with his "Influence Jazz Orchestra," with which Seth MacFarlane was a featured vocalist. In the former role, he provided transcriptions and arrangements of classic jazz and TV/film scores per the demands of the show, as well as assisted the composer with anything else that came along.
In the latter role, he adapted countless arrangements by Nelson Riddle, Billy May, Henry Mancini and others for Mr. MacFarlane's personal appearances with, and without, Ron's orchestra, including an arrangement/transcription of Meredith Willson's "Ya Got Trouble" from The Music Man for Mr. MacFarlane's performance on the 2010 Writers Guild of America television special.
Following his work for Ron Jones, Chris was employed by Joann Kane Music Service as a music proofreader. In that capacity, he prepared transcriptions for, and proofread the scores of, countless composers including John Williams, Randy Newman, Marco Beltrami, James Newton Howard, Marc Shaiman, Danny Elfman, Alan Silvestri, John Debney, Theodore Shapiro, Ron Jones, Walter Murphy, Alf Clausen, David Newman and others. Although music is certainly one of his passions, Chris has since left full-time employment in the music industry in order to pursue a career in the field of medicine. To that end, he became a certified paramedic in the state of Georgia in 2014, and worked in that capacity for four years. At present, Chris is a student at Ross University School of Medicine in Barbados pursuing his doctor of medicine (MD) degree. While currently (2018-present) focused on medicine, he remains passionate about music, and will take on the occasional commission.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Chris Bartholomew
