Variety has exclusively learned that Australia’s Seven Studios has begun principal photography on the series “Secret Bridesmaids’ Business.”
The show stars Abbie Cornish, Katie McGrath (“Supergirl”), and Georgina Haig (“Once Upon A Time”).
In the series, a bride’s perfect wedding turns deadly after one of her bridesmaids unknowingly invites a malevolent stranger into their lives, triggering a destructive chain reaction that blows open a hidden world of secrets. As the show unfolds, the power of female friendship could be the difference between life and death.
Cornish plays Melanie, who appears to have an idyllic life: she’s a mother and wife, with a successful career and a beautiful home. However, when her life choices are put to the test by some harsh home truths, her ideal world starts to spiral out of control. McGrath is Saskia, a fast-rising lawyer and an arresting, high-octane British truth-bomb. She is relentlessly intelligent and fiercely loyal.

Charmaine Bingwa.
Born in Western Australia to Zimbabwean parents, Charmaine Bingwa is the first openly gay and woman of colour to win the $US30,000 Heath Ledger Scholarship presented by Australians in Film.
“I’m stunned; this is an incredible platform,” Bingwa told If after accepting the award from Heath Ledger’s father Kim Ledger today at a dinner attended by eight of the 10 finalists at the Chateau Marmon in Los Angeles.
In her acceptance speech she told how Heath touched her life when she saw Brokeback Mountain. His character’s lines about ‘the pain of a life not lived’ inspired her to come out as a gay woman, she said.
“I heard the other day someone say that the most powerful currency you have is the impact you have on other people and I think Heath epitomises that. Heath personally taught me what the power of a performance can do,...

Warhorse actor Cody Fern has been announced as the winner of the Annual Heath Ledger Scholarship over the weekend, with Charlotte Best and Axle Whitehead named runners-up.
Australians in Film made the announcement at a fundraising dinner in Los Angers held late last week.
.It's hard to put into words just how deeply honored I am to be receiving the Heath Ledger Scholarship, not just for the invaluable support it offers in my career, but also for what it means to me personally,. said Fern.
.Growing up in a small country town, Heath's journey from Perth to Hollywood acts as an inspiration for me, always fuelling my passion and reminding me to dream big. I am so grateful to the Ledger family and Australians in Film for affording me this incredible opportunity..
The media has been quick to draw similarities between Fern and Ledger, both of whom were raised in Western Australia.

Directors/writers: Cameron and Colin Cairnes. Cast: Damon Herriman, Angus Sampson, Anna McGahan, Oliver Ackland, and Jamie Kristian. 100 Bloody Acres is an Aussie shot gorefest from brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes. Their first feature naturally follows two brothers: Reg (Damon Herriman) and Lindsay Morgan (Angus Sampson). These two characters must hack and slash their way through unwary travellers and unfortunate roadkill, to make the best fertilizer around Adelaide. Their exploits often go wrong and much of the comedy in this title comes from the Morgan brother's lack of focus. The spray of blood and bone is just a result of their mishaps. The story, if looked at from a distance, follows many cliches found in horror. A few young friends cross the wrong people in an isolated locale. But, the characters make this film more enjoyable. The protagonist, Reg, begins as a villain, but he transitions into an unlikely hero...

Australian horror comedy 100 Bloody Acres got mostly rave reviews in the Us last week including from major media outlets such as The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.
Those plaudits apparently did not stir American cinemagoers as the debut film from the brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes took just $US3,419 at 13 screens.
However the producers say the primary strategy by the Us distributor Doppelgänger Releasing was to position the film on Video-On-Demand platforms and later on DVD and Blu-ray. It was released simultaneously on VOD with the theatrical launch in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Portland and Denver. The VOD results won.t be known for some weeks.

At Any Price: Aussie Horror Comedy Predictable, Maintains Interest
Content with delivering an overly familiar comedy-horror scenario even as it seems committed to bringing both with equal measure, 100 Bloody Acres, the debut film from Aussie brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes, is never scary, but manages to squeeze some effective gore and several laughs out of its derivative little soul. Rednecks terrorizing/cannibalizing/disemboweling insipidly stupid and attractive but unremarkable city folk that unwittingly stumble into the hellacious rural hinterlands is a horror trademark, but try as it does to remain true to being both funny and scary, the Cairnes brothers end up giving too little of either element to make this effort satisfactory.

Your parents always told you never to accept rides from strangers; you never know whose car you’re getting into. That is a general truism and one that is exploited quite often in horror cinema. The kindest and most dim-witted are the ones you need to look out for. Case in point, 100 Bloody Acres.
The film starts off with the strange introduction of Reg (House of Wax’s Damon Herriman) who finds a man wrecked on the side of the road and proceeds to stash the body in his delivery truck. A weird but decent idea I guess, until he runs across three hitchhikers, one of whom he cannot resist. The hitchhikers, Wesley (Jamie Kristian), James (Oliver Ackland), and Sophie (Anna McGahan) are on their way to a music festival, but a broken down car alters their fate. Reg, not thinking with his big head, (though if he was, I...

The Australian horror comedy 100 Bloody Acres will launch on VOD and in limited release on June 28th. Until then, here’s a trailer and poster to get you acquainted with a film that could be one of the surprises of the summer. It looks like an Australian Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil, which sounds good to me.
The movie is directed by Colin and Cameron Cairnes, and stars Damon Herrriman (Justified), Agnus Sampson, Anna McGahan, Oliver Ackland, Jamie Kristian, and John Jarratt.

The trailer, poster and photos have arrived for Colin and Cameron Cairnes' 100 Bloody Acres. The film opens in theaters and VOD on Friday, June 28th and stars Damon Herrriman, Agnus Sampson, Anna McGahan, Oliver Ackland, Jamie Kristian and John Jarratt. In 100 Bloody Acres, brothers Reg and Lindsay Morgan are struggling to keep their organic blood and bone fertilizer business in motion. Their secret “recipe” for success (using dead car crash victims in their product) was a huge boon to business, but lately supply has been gravely low. Months have passed since their last find, and an important new customer is now waiting on a delivery. When junior partner Reg (Herriman of Justified) stumbles upon 3 travelers stranded on a remote country road, he cooks up a radical solution to their problem, and a way of finally...

It’s been said before (by me) that the horror/comedy hybrid is one of the toughest genre mash-ups to get right. More often than not one of the two suffers as the filmmakers focus on one to the detriment of the other. It’s not that the two need to be equally represented, but they need to be equally sincere. A recent and rare example of one that succeeds is the new Australian film, 100 Bloody Acres. It’s a very funny comedy through and through, but it never shies away from the red stuff. When the going gets tough the tough get grinding, and in the Morgan Brothers’ case what they’re grinding are human bodies. They’re not murderers per se as they rely almost exclusively on accident victims, but what else are small business owners to do when they discover that humans are the secret ingredient that makes their fertilizer more popular than ever...

Shot around Torquay, Victoria, Blinder is the story of a disgraced ex-footballer Tom Dunn (Oliver Ackland) who after a ten year stint away from home returns to face the scandal that tore his town apart. Embracing the life lessons his coach (Jack Thompson) once taught him he reignites an old flame and reunites the team, faces up to past mistakes and rekindles their love of football. After everything is done and dusted, it's not about giving your best; it's about doing your best. This schmaltzy finisher to the synopsis is the type of high strung morality that pervades Blinder. This is a shame as the material is compelling and murky; essentially underage sex and rape is buried under a mediocre story witnessed thousands of times before....

It's been a long time between kicks for Jack Thompson. The acting icon takes full advantage in Australian Rules Football film Blinder, some three decades after he last played a coach in the big-screen adaptation of David Williamson's The Club.
.It.s been 30 years since I played a coach . I thought I.m going to have to get myself into condition," the 72 year-old tells If Magazine. "But then I read the script and realised that it wasn.t really a reprise of The Club. The Club was originally a play and every scene is an argument, a comedy really about the administration of football more than the game itself. This is a lot about the game and there.s some great football in it. It.s about a younger generation and a different aspect of football."

A new company has launched into the Australian film distribution sector charging producers a flat fee for its service.
The model varies from a typical film distribution company which takes a percentage of box office revenue.
The Melbourne-based Backlot Studios is led by directors Tony Ianiro and Mark D’Angelo, both most recently of Paramount Pictures.
The company’s first film will be Richard Gray’s Aussie Rules-based film Blinder. It opens on March 7.
D’Angelo told Encore: “Part of our service is to liase with the producers and work with them as to how wide a film should go. Our job is to assess everything on a case by case basis. We can move a bit more fluidly.
Blinder was originally to be distributed this month through Jump Street Films but was dropped after Jump Street formed an exclusive distribution deal with Us-based multi-purpose film company Cargo Entertainment.

Australian rules football drama Blinder is searching for a new distributor.
A theatrical release was originally planned for January 24 but a clash with another planned release by independent distributor Jump Street Films spurred the change, according to director Richard Gray.
The $5 million film will now be screened for distributors in the next fortnight ahead of a planned wide theatrical release next year. Gray said keeping the release date within the window between the Australian Open in January and the start of the Afl main season was crucial with executive producers and former Afl greats Glenn Archer and Sam Keckovich, and legendary actor Jack Thompson, also lined up to do "a mountain of publicity".

100 Bloody Acres
Directed by Cameron and Colin Cairnes
Written by Cameron and Colin Cairnes
2012, Australia
Tucker and Dale vs Evil subverted the Evil Hick subgenre of slasher films where others – led by Rob Zombie – were satisfied with mining ever deeper the mythology of the murderous, cretinous backwoods of middle America, the America of Ed Gein and Leatherface. Well, Australia has its own take on the city slicker/country bumkin divide and the results of such close encounters. Notwithstanding the lone backpacker slayers of the deep outback epitomised in Wolf Creek or the drunkenly sinister small-towners of Wake in Fright, rural Australia is more the province of down-to-earth living, mateship, hard drinking and primary industry. And perhaps a measure of family values.
Cameron and Colin Cairnes are two brothers who have made their feature debut about two brothers, Reg and Lindsay Morgan, the owners of what they repeatedly remind us is a legitimate small business.

Okay, show of hands ... who's ready for some agricultural horror? No really, agricultural horror! Come on! Sometimes you guys are no fun at all. Anyway... 100 Bloody Acres, which we originally told you about during Afm, has officially begun production so you'll be getting a dose of it soon enough!
Colin and Cameron Cairnes direct. Damon Herriman (J. Edgar), Angus Sampson (Where the Wild Things Are), Anna McGahan, Oliver Ackland, Jamie Kristian, John Jarratt (Wolf Creek), Chrissie Page and Paul Blackwell all star. More on this one as it comes.
Synopsis
James is heading to a music festival in the bush with girlfriend Sophie and best mate Wes. He plans to propose to her this weekend, unaware (for the moment) that she and Wes have been screwing on the sly. When their car breaks down, friendly local and co-owner of a struggling blood and bone fertilizer business, Reg Morgan, stops to offer a lift.

A title we previously reported on during our coverage of the American Film Market, 100 Bloody Acres, begins rolling cameras this week.
Colin and Cameron Cairnes have attracted a cast that includes Damon Herriman (J. Edgar), Angus Sampson (Where the Wild Things Are), Anna McGahan, Oliver Ackland, Jamie Kristian, John Jarratt (Wolf Creek), Chrissie Page and Paul Blackwell.
The two directors are newcomers to the genre and, here, they explore "agricultural horror," if you can even call that a sub-genre. Head inside for a synopsis.
