Tony Hall-Chaired Indie Ties With Off The Fence To Expand ‘Rising Phoenix’ Paralympic Games Universe
Exclusive: The rise of the Paralympic Games has been one of sport’s biggest recent triumphs, and a trailblazing content initiative charting its story is now set to take the narrative even deeper.
Harder Than You Think (Htyt), which has exclusive worldwide rights to tell the story of the Paralympics through to the 2028 Games in LA, has appointed European production and sales house Off the Fence to find partners for the next four projects coming from its Rising Phoenix Universe initiative.
British indie Htyt was set up by London 2012 Chief Marketing Officer Greg Nugent and is chaired by ex-BBC Director General Tony Hall. It has been building the Rising Phoenix Universe since launching the double Emmy-winning Netflix and Bytedance doc Rising Phoenix, about the history of the Paralympic movement, in 2020.
As part of the agreement, Zdf Studios-owned Off the Fence will also co-produce additional content commissioned outside of the core four projects.

YouTube‘s latest original “follows four unheard voices from across the globe as they journey to Rome for an unprecedented climate dialogue with Pope Francis.”
The platform has largely shuttered its in-house production efforts, but still makes the occasional (often education- and/or activism-themed) original. The Letter: A Message For Our Earth is the latter—a film inspired by the pope’s 2015 letter “Laudato Si’,” in which he called for “swift and unified global action” to combat global warming.
Per YouTube, the “four unheard voices” meeting with Pope Francis include Arouna Kande from Senegal; Cacique Dadá from Brazilian Amazon; Greg Asner and Robin Martin from the U.S.; and Ridhima Pandey from India.
“The contributors each represent a different community impacted by climate change, and their stories bring together important perspectives from underrepresented voices in the global debate about climate change,” YouTube said in a press release.

As a cross-section of documentary sales exes winged their way towards the Palais for their first physical Cannes in two years, it wasn’t just the Covid-19 spit tests that marked out the experience as different – the marketplace has also changed, the pandemic exacerbating several trends.
For starters, in terms of investment in new feature-length documentary titles, most sales agents are arriving with co-pro and financing deals in mind, rather than the acquisition of completed films.
The distribution backlog caused by the closure of cinemas in key territories is partly to blame, and the earliest most agents are looking to secure films for distribution is for 2022 and 2023.
“This year I’ve had to say ‘no’ to films I really like and to stop acquiring completed titles and that, to me, is dramatic,” said Anaïs Clanet. partner and head of sales at Paris-based Reservoir Docs.

Off the Fence (Otf), the co-producer of Oscar-winning documentary “My Octopus Teacher,” has revealed a strategy overhaul and expansion of its senior management team.
The move sees the U.K. and Netherlands-based factual specialist spin out its divisions into three separate business models with the aim of bringing distribution and production closer together, providing more streamer-friendly content and creating a new data-driven fast channels offering.
Bo Stehmeier, who has helmed the Zdf Enterprises-owned firm since January, said the move would help the company become a more agile, digitally driven entertainment business that would thrive an era of “monolithic companies.”
Stehmeier, the former president of Red Arrow Studios International, has also refined and categorized the genres which the company will offer. He said the focus is now on three core pillars: ‘Yesterday’ (history), ‘Today’ and ‘Tomorrow’ (science).

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the series finale of “Bosch”
“Bosch,” Amazon Prime Video’s longest-running series, has finally reached its conclusion— kind of. While one big seven-season-long chapter closes for the abrasive, steadfast and intensive titular Hollywood detective Hieronymous “Harry” Bosch, the disgruntled and now decamped Los Angeles Police Department veteran is headed down a new road. Luckily for fans of the show, this path, to be explored on Amazon IMDb TV’s untitled “Bosch” spinoff, might not diverge too far from what they’re familiar with.
“Bosch,”, starring Titus Welliver, is based on Michael Connelly’s novels featuring the detective; the final season drew on Connelly’s “The Concrete Blonde” and “The Burning Room,” with Harry Bosch and partner Jerry Edgar (Jamie Hector) “pursuing two separate but perilous murder investigations that will take them to the highest levels of white-collar crime and...
