Set in a post-apocalyptic USA where nuclear war forced people to take shelter in bunkers called Vaults, Fallout depicts the story of warfare and a barren wasteland. Taking shelter in the Vaults, people do not know that the Vaults were also a place for psychological experiments on the people.

A stark wooden cross stands in a moonlit cemetery in the opening episode of Fallout, Amazon’s eccentric and capacious adaptation of the video game series. From each arm hangs an IV bag that feeds a yellow liquid into a grave. There lies the body of Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins), an erstwhile cowboy who struck gold as a western film star before being blacklisted for alleged communist affiliations. Cooper lived in a distinctively retro-futurist United States. In this alternate universe, the 2070s were marked by escalating war between America and China and seemingly stuck in the 1950s, with black-and-white TVs and classic cars—plus robots that helped apron-clad homemakers around the house. Then the bombs fell, in a bout of mutually assured destruction that eradicated almost all life on Earth.
More than 200 years after the nuclear calamity, a trio of wary mercenaries dig up Cooper’s tomb and find a coffin chained shut.

It was April 14, 2019, when Game of Thrones aired its season 8 and all good things in the world seemed to vanish. Creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were hailed as the villain while the once-majestic series declined to a mere parody.
Well, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss recently found fame again for creating the recently released Netflix series 3 Body Problem. Although the people haven’t forgiven them yet, a long and in-depth review from gaming industry legend Hideo Kojima might just change their minds!

Ramin Djawadi, the composer who wrote one of the most recognizable, hummable opening credits themes of all time, is teaming up again with Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss as well as co-showrunner Alexander Woo on a very different series, 3 Body Problem.
Instead of dragons and fantastical turf wars, the speculative sci-fi thriller immerses you in existential mysteries and the lives of an international cast of characters while transporting you through multiple chronologies, dimensions, and continents.
Tying so many epic storylines and ambitious themes together is Djawadi’s sophisticated score, which experiments with character-driven melodies, ominous rhythms meant to evoke otherworldly communications, abstract sound design — and a strategically timed Lana Del Rey classic. Read on for more on Djawadi’s process working with Benioff and Weiss on 3 Body Problem’s opening credits theme and scoring some of the most dramatic moments in the series.

HBO's ambitious sci-fi series "Westworld" took the cable channel by storm when the first season became one of its most-watched shows. There was palpable excitement each week for a new episode, and it felt like the hype actually came close to capturing the eager anticipation audiences once felt between new episodes of "Lost," complete with a variety of compelling mysteries driving the series.
Sadly, "Westworld" came to an unfortunate end with the show's fourth season. HBO canceled the series due to the show's high cost and diminishing returns, with viewership taking an extreme dip as the series continued. That's genuinely disappointing, because co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy had just one more season left to complete the story they originally conceived, and as of now, fans will never find out how it was all supposed to end.

Over 15 years after its release, "The Dark Knight" remains one of the best superhero movies ever made. It's a blockbuster that changed movies forever, helping usher in the era of superhero domination in cinema and legitimizing the genre as more than just popcorn fare. Heath Ledger's posthumous Academy Award win marked the first time a superhero movie had received recognition for its acting at a major awards show, while the movie being snubbed for a Best Picture nod led to the so-called "Dark Knight Rule" (which extended the category's number of nominees from five to 10).
"The Dark Knight" was also the movie that kickstarted Christopher Nolan's love of IMAX, and, all that aside, is just a well-written film with fantastic dialogue that continues to be referenced and parodied to this day. Arguably, however, no line has taken quite on a life of its own quite like Harvey Dent saying,...

The second season of HBO’s hit fantasy series House of the Dragon has finished filming, according to a report by Variety¹. The show, which is a prequel to Game of Thrones, is set to premiere in the summer of 2024, following the success of its first season.
House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, which chronicles the history of House Targaryen, the dragon-riding dynasty that ruled Westeros for centuries before the events of Game of Thrones. The first season, which aired in 2022, focused on the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and the conflict between his children Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) over the succession to the Iron Throne. The season ended with a bloody civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, which decimated the Targaryen family and their dragons.

Three months from now, the Weeknd might just have an Emmy to place alongside his four Grammys and his Oscar nomination.
That’s because he joins a dozen other music superstars — including Dolly Parton, Common, Ryan Tedder, “Weird Al” Yankovic and Meshell Ndegeocello — who have entered work in this year’s Emmy competition.
Voting began yesterday in the seven music categories. Approximately 550 members of the Academy’s music branch will cast ballots, although viewing the hundreds of entries before voting ends on June 26 is an impossible task, Academy officials privately concede.
The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye, is among the 19 entries in the Music Direction category. He submitted “The Weeknd Live at Sofi Stadium,” an HBO special that aired in February. If nominated, he’s likely to be up against such past winners as Adam Blackstone and Rickey Minor (“The Oscars”).

Fantasy show composers Gustavo Santaolalla (“The Last of Us”), Bear McCreary (“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”) and Ramin Djawadi (“House of the Dragon”) knew going in that their respective projects had built-in audiences — and that those fandoms should be kept in mind while creating their scores.
“The Last of Us” showrunners Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin told Santaolalla that music needed to be “another character” for the HBO series adapted from the video game he previously scored. Rather than create new themes, Santaolalla organically transitioned the music to TV. The South American instrument called “the ronroco,” which he used to write “The Last of Us” theme, was integral in keeping that connectivity for fans who had experienced Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie’s (Bella Ramsay) journey before.
Santaolalla also brought back “All Gone,” “The Path” and other fan-favorite tracks for “The Last of Us” TV series.

Succession is back for its fourth and final season. That means only 10 more chances to hear the memorable theme song, which got Showbiz Cheat Sheet thinking. HBO has quite a track record of memorable theme songs. They date back to linear TV, before skipping the credits was even an option, but even so, these are so good you wouldn’t want to skip them anyway.

Garry Shandling’s showbiz spoof The Larry Sanders Show got everything right about the industry. Shandling played a late night talk show host and the satire showed how fake everything was both on the stage and behind the scenes.

Certain established filmmakers have managed to carve out their own niche in the industry, playing in a very specific sandbox that best showcases their talent and interests. Christopher Nolan is typically going to err on the side of big-budget, crowd-pleasing entertainment with a cerebral twist. 2022 was a very, very good year for superhero scores. Usually, they can be a little hit or miss — but recent years have seen a notable spike in quality in the music for Marvel's Cinematic Universe, and for its counterpart at DC. Part of that might have to do with the innovative composers that have been contributing recently, names like Ramin Djawadi, Lorne Balfe, and, of course, Ludwig Göransson.
Göransson himself is pretty famous for his work on the "Black Panther" score, which secured him his first Academy Award nomination (and win) in 2019. With his return to scoring its sequel, "Wakanda Forever," many thought that he'd be a shoo-in for another nom this time around. The same could also be said for a certain score from the DC camp, Michael Giacchino's "The Batman." Giacchino is no stranger to that Oscar love either: he's been nominated twice for his work on Pixar films "Up" and "Ratatouille,...

As noted in our Best TV Shows list, there was just a lot of television in 2022. It’s so, so easy for great work to get lost in the relentless churn of new streaming content, even as reality programming bends us ever closer to the “30 Rock” universe. It’s even easier for great musical work to get lost on television, where scores are able to have an ambition and originality the rest of a legacy IP production might lack, or to embrace experimental elements viewers may not even notice while they’re watching a conventional-looking scene. We double-checked that film legends John Williams and Howard Shore came to TV to score themes this year, because it feels like a million years ago already now.

"House of the Dragon" managed to challenge expectations, shut up the naysayers, and deliver one of the best shows of the fall. In 10 episodes, it managed to make Westeros a believable place where you definitely don't want to live, but love to spend some time in week by week. The story is compelling and full of that sweet, sweet political scheming and backstabbing, has fantastic one-off characters, another winning score by Ramin Djawadi, and made splendid use of the titular dragons. More than anything, the show was smartly written, and it also had a tremendous cast that elevated the story and made us fall in love with even the most despicable characters.
And yet the biggest problem with "House of the Dragon" was that we didn't really get to spend time with the actors: just as you started to get to know them, or even memorized who was playing who,...

Spoiler warning for House of the Dragon episode 9
The king is dead, long live the king! After two months of Paddy Considine slowly decomposing as the good king Viserys, the inevitable has finally happened on House of the Dragon. In an opening that echoes the famous sequence in the “The Winds of Winter” (the episode of Game of Thrones where the crypt goes boom), juvenile spies relay the message of the king’s demise to the sound of Ramin Djawadi’s tremulous score. The reason for that note of tension is clear: what happens next?
Bad Heir Day
Well, what happens next is that the Queen (Olivia Cooke) makes the decision to push through her son Aegon’s claim. “I saw [Viserys] last night,” she tells her father. “He told he wished for Aegon to be king.” And so the wheels spring into motion – and, as ever with House of the Dragon,...

House of the Dragon Episode 9
Episode 9s have a long, storied history on Game of Thrones. The ninth and penultimate installments of House of the Dragon’s progenitor include climactic hours like “Baelor,” a.k.a. House of the Dragon’s first stab at a penultimate ninth episode arrives with this week’s “The Green Council,” and the surprisingly subdued way it approaches this season’s ostensible climax highlights the fundamental differences between these two series thus far.

House of the Dragon Episode 7
If nothing else, House of the Dragon’s most recent two episodes have made it clear that the show is really going to miss director and co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik.
Last month, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Sapochnik (who directed some of Game of Thrones‘ most action-packed installments like “The Battle of the Bastards” and “Hardhome”) would be leaving the series that he developed alongside co-showrunner Ryan Condal before season 2. This being Warner Bros. Discovery’s biggest TV product by a wide margin, viewers can be forgiven for looking for spilled tea all around Sapochnik’s departure. In listening to Sapochnik on the most recent episode of the official House of the Dragon podcast, however, it really does seem like the guy just needs a break.
And what a well-earned break it will be! Just like last week...

Music is one of the most powerful elements of any form of media. "I'll Be There For You" by The Rembrandts became an infectious classic thanks to its usage as the theme song for "Friends," and the symphonic frenzy of "The Simpsons" theme song is recognizable from the first notes. Music helps indicate the mood of a specific scene to an audience, which makes the scorework of a composer absolutely crucial.
Grammy nominated composer Ramin Djawadi is responsible for countless memorable scores, but his work on "Game of Thrones" is without a doubt his most recognizable. Even hearing just a few bars of "The Rains Of Castamere" is likely to transport a person back to where they were just before the events of the Red Wedding, and that's all due to Djawadi's breathtaking score. Djawadi was asked to return for the "Game of Thrones" spin-off series "House of the Dragon,...

“House of the Dragon” is a hit, but what’s working and what’s not remains hotly contested among fans and critics alike. How is the show handling misogyny, violence, and wigs? Are the week-to-week plot twists as gripping as “Thrones'” before it? The show is pulling in a massive audience, but are we just going through the motions and watching the big buzzy show, or do we actually love it?
As Season 1 enters its second half, let’s look at the pros and cons of Episodes 1-6 to better assess how HBO’s latest juggernaut can get even better (and bigger?) from here. Episode 6 “The Princess and the Queen” jumps ahead more than any other so far, catching up with Alicent and Rhaenyra around 10 years after Episode 5, with the characters now played by Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy. A lot has happened since Rhaenyra’s wedding, yet somehow not much at all.

Dragons will come and go, it seems, but the main themes of Westeros stay the same. The opening of “House of the Dragon” embraces its televisionary sire’s thundering drums, armies of strings, and melodic refrains that loop like the turning of the Earth. In fact, there’s a fair bit of music throughout HBO’s follow-up to “Game of Thrones” that remains exactly the same. But that is in no small part because Ramin Djawadi’s score works almost like a narrator for the events surrounding the battles, old and new, for the Iron Throne. Whenever the main title theme hits — whether it’s the full-throated version in opening credits or an echo of part of the refrain, nested subtly inside a character’s theme as they make a play for power — it invites us to admire and dread what’s happening in a way no virtuoso camera move...

In the span of a week and a half, the two biggest fantasy franchises of all time have returned with HBO's "House of the Dragon" and Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." Both are prequel shows led by blondes who just happen to be dragon riders or immortal Elves. Both buck the Eurocentric casting of previous franchise outings with the addition of prominent Black characters. They're not exactly world-building from scratch, since we've been to the fictional realms of Westeros and Middle-earth before. Yet as they set about annexing or rebuilding within those realms, "House of the Dragon" and "The Rings of Power" deepen our knowledge of certain spots on the map, simultaneously delivering drama to reestablish the ethos of "Game of Thrones" and "The Lord of the Rings."

House of the Dragon fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the series’ title sequence and theme after the season premiered sans the epic opening that the show’s predecessor was known for. According to showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, the goals for the opening moments of House of the Dragon’s first episode were to set up the time period and the era of Westeros we are diving into.
The pair told CNET that after the Harrenhal sequence where we see Viserys Targaryen named the successor to King Jaehaerys, “t seemed important that once the curtain went up, so to speak, having a title sequence felt like an indulgence. We wanted to get on and tell the story.”
This is why we only see a brief golden dragon symbol on a black background as the score transitions and the story moves forward nine years into Viserys’ reign....

Those who tuned into the second episode of the “Game of Thrones” prequel series “House of the Dragon” were finally treated to the show’s opening credits sequence on Sunday night (the first episode did not have opening credits), though many were perhaps surprised to discover just how similar to the iconic “Thrones” credits this new sequence is.
Indeed, the “House of the Dragon” opening credits use the theme song from the “Game of Thrones” credits instead of opting for a new theme, although it’s perfectly in keeping with the show’s vibe overall. While “House of the Dragon” focuses on new characters, the prequel is very much in the world of “Game of Thrones” and shares crucial DNA with the hit HBO series.
Elastic, the design firm behind the iconic opening credits for “Thrones,” returned to create the credits sequence for “House of the Dragon,” which makes great use of blood throughout.

In the era of the "Skip Intro" button, "Game of Thrones" was a rare show where watching the title sequence was an event in and of itself. Flying over the map of Westeros and Essos to see what locations we would be visiting that particular episode was both a thrill and always served as a nice reminder of how this world was laid out. This title sequence didn't just exist as a bit of mood setting to superimpose the names of the creatives onto. It served a practical need. Oh, and it just so happened to have one of the greatest theme songs for a television program of all time, written by composer Ramin Djawadi.
So, it came as a bit of a surprise that the premiere episode of the prequel series "House of the Dragon" didn't feature one, opting just for a brief look at the House Targaryen sigil.

The second episode of "House of the Dragon" introduced what appears to be the show's opening credits going forward. They feature the same theme song that was used in all eight seasons of "Game of Thrones," composed by Ramin Djawadi who did all the music for that series. Djawadi returns to score "House of the Dragon," but the show's creative team didn't change the iconic theme song itself.
The "Game of Thrones" opening credits famously featured models of the most important locations in Westeros and across the Narrow Sea. As events took place on the show that changed those locations, those changes were also made to the models shown in the credits. When the Lannisters took the Iron Throne, the banners in King's Landing changed from stags to lions. When Winterfell was burnt to the ground, that was represented visually, too.

The much-anticipated Games of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon premiered last week to much fanfare and excitement as viewers finally got their first look at the earlier generation of Targaryens. But fans were still waiting for one crucial piece of the puzzle — the opening credits and theme song! With the second episode airing on Sunday, August 28, HBO has now revealed the brand new opening credits (watch below), which sees an animated sequence of blood rising from various symbols on the floors of a model stone city. Viewers track the river of blood as it flows through the city streets and eventually converges at the insignia for House Targaryen. But the most important part is that the title song is the same as the original Game of Thrones theme music. Composed by Ramin Djawadi, who wrote the score for the original George R.R. Martin fantasy drama, the classic signature melody...

When fans of Game of Thrones tuned into the very first episode of the spinoff series, House of the Dragon, they may have noticed one thing was missing.
Sure, the intrigue and story were set up immediately as House Targaryen was pitted against itself in the battle for the Iron Throne.
King Viserys (Paddy Considine) was initially undecided over who would rule in his place as he had not yet produced a male heir.
Most likely, it was expected his younger brother, Daemon (Matt Smith), would replace him.
However, after Daemon was particularly cruel, the king decided to announce his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), would replace him, setting up what will very likely be a bloody season.
While all of this was entertaining, many viewers wondered where the opening credits had gone.

"Game of Thrones" burned us bad. While it remains the most prominent talking point three years later, the controversial finale was just one fraction of the problem: HBO's hit series was plowing through rough patches way back in its fifth season. By the time it came to a close, lots of fans felt their passion for Westeros fizzle out completely. But even that wasn't enough to stop HBO from plotting a dozen spin-offs to take its place! Despite considering "Thrones" my favorite show for the better part of a decade, I really struggled with the idea of returning to Westeros; it wasn't so much residual anger or even low expectations — just an inability to feel the hype. So imagine my surprise when, seconds into "House of the Dragon," I felt that passion reignite.
In my defense, I'm a sucker for familiarity, and the premiere episode of "House of the Dragon" is packed with it.

Review: After the underwhelming final season of Game of Thrones, HBO has been developing multiple spin-offs, prequels, and sequels to the fantasy series. With a pilot being completed and scrapped for a prequel set ten thousand years before GoT titled Bloodmoon, all eyes shifted to House of the Dragon. With very high expectations from fans and critics, House of the Dragon sticks closer to the era of the original series. Fantasy films and television have been the basis for some of the most memorable scores in history, and more are on display with the debuts of “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” this week and “House of the Dragon” on Sunday.
Disney+ and HBO are, for the most part, keeping a lid on music until the shows premiere, but Variety got a preview of both from the composers themselves.
“I feel like every composer wants to, at some stage, write that big action-adventure score and get to work with an orchestra,” says Amie Doherty, composer of “She-Hulk,” the Marvel series with Tatiana Maslany as a lawyer who can also turn into a giant green-skinned super-being.
Doherty, the Irish-born composer who recently scored the animated “Spirit Untamed” and orchestrated many episodes of “Star Trek: Discovery” and “The Umbrella Academy,” has secretly been toiling on “She-Hulk” for the past year.

For the better part of a decade, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones dominated the drama series Emmy races and delivered big enough ratings for their respective networks that it’s no surprise they wanted more. Spoiler Alert: This review contains spoilers for the Season 4 finale of “Westworld,” entitled “Que Será, Será,” now streaming on HBO Max.
Reviewing the first four episodes of “Westworld’s” fourth season, I noted that the show seemed unnecessarily convoluted, purposefully obscuring what was even happening until the season’s fourth episode. With the back half of “Westworld’s” season having now aired — the finale dropped August 14 — that convolution seems to have served a purpose. The show spent half its 2022 episodes avoiding getting to the point because, once there, there wasn’t that much to say.
The reveal at midseason was that the android Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) had come up with a way to control humanity, and that all the people in her New York City were performing for her and her kind’s amusement. It was a neat reversal of the show’s original premise, wherein robots acted out...

As the upcoming series “House of the Dragon” approaches its release date, its showrunners Ryan J Condal and Miguel Sapochnik reveal that it is a “complex Shakespearean family drama.”
The series is a gripping saga that takes the audience deep into the extraordinary world of Westeros and explores the Targaryen family – the all-powerful dragon riders who are the seemingly invincible rulers of the seven kingdoms.
Even though the series is a prequel to “Game of Thrones”, “House of the Dragon” has an entirely new story with new characters played by an impressive cast.

George R. R. Martin’s adaptation of Howard Waldrop’s short story “Night of the Cooters” won best sci-fi at this year’s LA Shorts International Film Festival.
Directed by Vincent D’Onofrio, who also stars, the short film — a “tall tale” about aliens invading Texas in the 1800s — is a passion project borne out of 60-odd years of friendship between Martin and Waldrop. The project is a combination of live action and state-of-the-art CG.

Step aside, winter, because fire and blood are now coming to Westeros.

The show, set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” follows the tumultuous story of House Targaryen under the rule of King Viserys I. And, of course, there is one goal on seemingly every character’s mind: the Iron Throne.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood,” “House of the Dragon” will follow the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war between siblings Aegon II and Rhaenyra, who fought for the throne after the death of their father. The war pits Westeros’ great houses — including the Lannisters and Starks — against each other, resulting in the death of House Targaryen’s most powerful dragons. It would take centuries until Westeros would see another dragon,...

Flies, Loud Reed and a tower hold some of the biggest clues about where Westworld season four is headed, according to two key creative team members on the HBO show.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of Sunday night’s long-awaited premiere, co-creator, showrunner and EP Lisa Joy, along with writer and EP Alison Schapker, teased their favorite Easter eggs hidden in this season’s promo materials and title sequence. Schapker pointed to the tower in the opening credits — a topic that was seemingly introduced during “The Auguries,” as something fans should keep an eye out for throughout the season.
But she also noted a specific lyric from the Lou Reed song used for season four’s teaser trailer, which is not to be confused with the full trailer’s orchestral arrangement of Nine Inch Nails’ “The Day the World Went Away.” That cover — composed by Ramin Djawadi,...

Brian Tyler, composer of the “Fast and Furious” franchise, “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Crazy Rich Asians,” was named a BMI Icon at Wednesday night’s 38th annual Broadcast Music Inc. Film, TV and Visual Media Awards in Beverly Hills.
Tyler is among the top 10 highest-grossing film composers of all time. His other films have included “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Rambo,” “Charlie’s Angels” and the recent reboot of “Scream.” His TV credits include “Yellowstone,” “1883,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Sleepy Hollow” and “Transformers: Prime.” He also wrote the Formula One racing theme and, as his alter ego Madsonik, has written and produced several songs with a contemporary edge.
“It’s just mind-blowing to now be included in that pantheon of talent,” Tyler told Variety, referring to the many previous recipients of the performing-rights organization’s highest accolade, including John Williams, Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard, Alexandre Desplat and Terence Blanchard.

In what can be called movie geek comfort food, Battle: Los Angeles and Krull have become cult favorites over the years. Why? You can watch either movie while doing other things keeping an extra eye on the screen, have devout fans who can recite the dialogue verbatim and will defend both movies to the end. Guilty pleasures, yes, cult status, definitely.
Even HBO Max has it listed as such.
The 2011 sci-fi and 1982 fantasy films have come to HBO Max and are available to stream now.
“Marines don’t quit.”
Battle: Los Angeles, starring Aaron Eckhart, and from director Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath Of The Titans), is the exciting story of a squad of U.S. Marines who become the last line of defense against a global invasion. It gets the military right than most war movies. Numerous Marine units assisted in filming and the movie contains some awesome scenes with Black Hawks,...

As someone who has played and loved the games themselves, I came into Uncharted with a degree of knowledge I often lack with video game adaptations. Plus, I admit I was initially wary of the apparent miscasting of Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg in parts they are too young for. But y’know what? For all the mixed reviews and criticism, I thought Uncharted was a pleasant surprise.
It has been a long road for an Uncharted movie, with work starting as far back as 2008, and since then there have been many on board and jumping ship before we arrived where we are now. Safe to say we have been conditioned to not have too high expectations when it comes to films inspired by games, with the benchmarks arguably being Pokemon Detective Pikachu, Rampage, Warcraft: The Beginning and Sonic The Hedgehog as things currently stand. However, Uncharted, while imperfect, is...
