Donna Noble is angry. She agreed to come with the Doctor through space and time with the belief that he could do heroic works. But when she accompanies him to Pompeii in 79 Ad, Donna learns that the Doctor can’t change history at will, which prevents him from rescuing a family from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
“Some things are fixed, some things are in flux,” the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) tells Donna (Catherine Tate). “Pompeii is fixed.”
While that difficult conversation from the Doctor Who season four episode “The Fires of Pompeii” haunted Donna’s initial partnership with the Doctor, the duo’s reunion allowed them to tinker with a historical moment that apparently wasn’t fixed. At the start of “Wild Blue Yonder,” the Doctor and Donna briefly land in 1666 England and meet Sir Isaac Newton. Apparently not remembering that he, in his fourth incarnation, dropped the apple on Newton’s head,...

Unlike “The Star Beast”, there’s no in-episode commentary for “Wild Blue Yonder” but there’s still plenty for fans of nerdy making-of details to get their teeth into thanks to this informative how-to thread from director Tom Kingsley, and this bonus video going into how the VFX and practical in-camera effects were achieved.
Add to that a fresh episode of The Official Doctor Who Podcast containing nuggets from Russell T Davies alongside reactions and chat from hosts Christel Dee, Juno Dawson and Tyrell Charles. Plus a decent behind-the-scenes tour from Doctor Who: Unleashed. Watch and listen to them all for fun factoids and titbits like the ones below.

Nathaniel Curtis got a new nickname while filming “The Witcher: Blood Origin.” The British actor’s castmates referred to him as “Fancy Gay Jesus” because of his signature long hair as well as his character Brían’s flowy robes and abundance of jewels.
“I had so much fun on that set,” Curtis says in the most recent episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. Brían is openly queer in the “Witcher” prequel series.
Curtis first gained attention for his work in Russell T Davies’ AIDS drama “It’s a Sin.” Landing the “Witcher” role, Curtis says, “means the world to me.” He grew up loving the fantasy genre.
“To be asked to play the first openly queer character in the ‘Witcher’ universe, when I heard that, it kind of sunk in that it wasn’t even just about me,” Curtis says. “It was about the people. It was about 9-year-old Nathaniel,...

Dear Marvel: Please meet with “Rrr” star Ntr Jr. The actor tells me he’s hoping to join the MCU. “I would love to do it,” he said at the Jan. 7 screening of “Rrr” at the DGA in West Hollywood, adding with a smile, “I’m waiting for it to happen.”
His favorite Marvel character is Iron Man. “He’s so relatable,” Ntr Jr. said. “He is someone like us. He does not have superpowers. He doesn’t come from a different planet. He’s not someone who has been put through a science experiment and become the Hulk.”

Originally expected to be a six episode series, The Witcher prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin will be “a four-part special event” when it reaches the Netflix streaming service on December 25th. Our own Alex Maidy already had the chance to watch the show, giving it an 8/10 review you can read Here – and in his review he said, “The limited four-episode run is just long enough to build up the characters without overstaying its welcome. In fact, I would have enjoyed more episodes or even another standalone mini-series focused on this era.” During a recent interview with Netflix, showrunner Declan de Barra said the idea to cut the show down from six episodes to four came up in the editing room so the show could have “optimum story flow”.
The showrunner said, “This felt like a two-part movie. You never want to be watching a movie going, ‘I love this movie.

Netflix has unveiled the full-length trailer for The Witcher spinoff Blood Origin.
The footage dropped Saturday at Brazil Comic Con, and fans were introduced to a prequel set 1,200 years before the events of the original Netflix series.
The moment that will likely get everyone talking is the arrival of Joey Batey as Jaskier in the closing moments.
It's a big moment and suggests Jaskier will play a pivotal role in telling everyone about the events of the troubling time before humans existed in the Witcher universe.

Netflix dropped a new “The Witcher: Blood Origin” trailer at Ccxp down in Brazil on Saturday, offering a closer look at the four-part prequel event series and revealing that fan-favorite character Jaskier (Joey Batey) from the flagship Netflix series makes an appearance.

By the looks of this trailer the show is a bit more action/martial arts-heavy than the Henry Cavill-fronted original series, but it also looks to offer up answers to big questions posed in “The Witcher” – namely what in the world are those monoliths and what do they do.

Netflix has finally made an announcement for its upcoming spinoff series, The Witcher: Blood Origin.
Set some 1,200 years before the events currently playing out in The Witcher, the new series will focus on an event called the Conjuncture of the Spheres.
If that event sounds familiar, it’s because it was featured heavily in Season 2 of The Witcher.
The new drama series will not only delve into the Conjuncture of Spheres, but it will bring further light to the world of the elves and what the Continent was like before it happened.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting news on when this new TV show will drop on Netflix but, until recently, the streaming giant has remained tight-lipped.
However, at this weekend’s Tudum event, a premiere date was finally revealed.

Netflix had announced that the prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin, which is set in “an elven world” 1200 years before the events we saw in The Witcher, would have a six episode run. But now the Witcher fan site Redanian Intelligance reports that they’ve heard the show is being condensed from six episodes down to four.
Here’s the Redanian Intelligence report:
Keep in mind that the footage was already shot as six episodes, which likely means heavier editing and potentially lots of footage on the cutting room floor. To support that, we learned the writing credits for all of the Blood Origin episodes and they go like this:
Episode 1: Declan de Barra
Episode 2: Alex Meenehan/Aaron Stewart-Ahn
Episode 3: Tania Lotia/Kiersten Van Horne
Episode 4: Declan de Barra/Tasha Huo
We can’t claim to know all the ins and outs of how crediting works...

The first teaser trailer for the prequel series “The Witcher: Blood Origin” was released to fans who stuck around after the credits rolled on Season 2 of “The Witcher,” which dropped on Netflix Friday morning. The teaser focuses on a trio of elves, played by Michelle Yeoh, Laurence O’Fuarain and Sophia Brown, who travel the wilderness and fight several groups of soldiers. Netflix has handed an early renewal to the widely popular series The Witcher, greenlighting Season 3 months before Season 2 drops in December.
The streamer unveiled a slew of The Witcher news at its virtual fan event Tudum on Saturday. The Witcher, which was one of Netflix’s most popular shows of 2019, stars Henry Cavill as the grim Geralt of Rivia, the bane of supernatural beasties, in a story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.
Set to debut on December 17, The Witcher Season 2 will follow Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia who, convinced that Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) died at the gruesome Battle of Sodden, seeks to bring Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan) to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen.

Like other explorations into the world of The Witcher, the upcoming spin-off prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin both expands upon and provides context for the main series. With Netflix announcing the limited series’ cast, most of whom are playing elven characters, a few questions arise. How are the elves involved in the creation of the witcher race, and why is the so-called “conjunction of the spheres” at the center of not only this origin story but also the beginning of the fall of the elves?

Or even if you just looked up in the sky (via “Girls5eva”!) Or if you just ordered a pizza from Jon & Vinny’s (did any of you play chess on “The Queen’s Gambit” pizza box?).
Also, California opens up on June 15, which should make the world a little easier to move around… but please be smart. It’s a transition. If a store asks you to wear a mask,...

Rebellion, joy, sex, and panic define the days and ways of a group of young gay men in 1980s London in Russell T. Davies’ powerful British miniseries “It’s a Sin,” which debuted to some of the best reviews yet for HBO Max back in February. Gilded by a top-to-toe flawless ensemble, the five-episode drama opens a compassionate window onto lives touched and destroyed by the AIDS epidemic of the period, as its characters try to live freely out of the closet. For Davies, creator of the original groundbreaking British series “Queer as Folk,” “It’s a Sin” was about delicately treading the line between reminding a new generation of the horrors of AIDS, while also taking a nonjudgmental approach to sexual promiscuity and celebrating the joyousness of sexual freedom.
“It was a difficult line to tread but it’s exactly the line I wanted to be on,” Davies told IndieWire from London in a Zoom interview.

“It was something I was passionate about because in many ways, things don’t change and it’s not as if our society is completely sorted,” It’s a Sin creator Russell T Davies said of the HBO Max miniseries that focusing on the fatal devastation of AIDS in the UK in the 1980s.
“People fighting for trans rights are going through exactly what we were going through back then in the ’80s, the ’70s and the ’60s, in fact trans rights are way back in the ’50s as far as I’m concerned, and in your country too, terrible things are happening,” the Queer As Folk creator added. ”You could be 16 years old watching It’s a Sin, if you are a 16-year-old trans person watching it, you could go, ‘Oh my God, these battles have been going on for generations.’ ”
Davis made his remarks during Deadline’s Contenders Television awards-season event.

This year’s Television Academy Emmy campaign rules focused on virtual panels and events, with one exception: Panels could also take place in a drive-in environment, as long as Covid-19 safety protocols are observed. Last week, NBCUniversal held the first drive-in screening of the season with an event for Bravo’s “Top Chef.”
In the case of the HBO/HBO Max events, Television Academy members will screen episodes and watch panel discussions about contenders while being fed and watching from their cars. Per HBO and HBO Max, “each event will have a branded red carpet photo opportunity for guests upon drive-in arrival,...

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the 29th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar party was held virtually for the first time. Neil Patrick Harris hosted the streaming soiree, which was filmed primarily at London’s luxury Rosewood Hotel and raised more than $3 million for the AIDS organization.
During the hourlong preshow, Harris introduced musical numbers, welcomed surprise guests and conducted sit-down interviews with co-hosts Elton John and his husband David Furnish. Harris addressed the unusual structure of this year’s fete at the beginning of the evening, asking John and Furnish if they had ever imagined they would be virtually hosting the event.
“It’s actually a pain,” John responded, to the laughter of both Harris and Furnish.
He went on to explain, “It’s not a pain, I’m joking. But I wish we could be there. It’s more fun to be there, but this is the...
