Despite having never seen a single second of the show, I’ve managed to hear of the Cartoon Network animated show Ben 10 through various facets of popular culture. The cartoon follows Ben, a young boy who discovers a wristwatch-like device that allows him to transform into 10 different alien creatures.
Action flick producer Joel Silver has told Variety (via CinemaBlend) that he wants to transform the popular kids’ series into a live-action movie franchise, saying his sons “clued him in to” the cartoon. He intends to try “something fresh and go at it in a way that stays true to the original material.” The last time he tried this is with the Wachowski siblings‘ Speed Racer, which was a bomb with critics and audiences. Even Silver admits that it wasn’t a flop, saying that he “failed miserably,” but that you “always learn more from the ones that don’t...

Joel Silver has signed on to develop a live-action feature film based on Cartoon Network's sci-fi franchise "Ben 10" which Warner Bros. Pictures would almost certainly distribute says Variety.
Both the cartoon series and live-action TV movies have scored strong ratings on the toon network and Silver says the aim is to make a potential franchise launcher.
The story follows Ben Tennyson, a boy who can transform into ten different alien creatures with the help of a glovelike device called the Omnitrix.
The new film would not include any of the actors from the previous live-action small screen movies as Silver and producer Steve Richards aim to create a large, big-budgeted tentpole movie.

After growing into a massive franchise, "Ben 10" is going to have a big screen treatment. Joel Silver, "Sherlock Holmes" producer, is set to develop the Cartoon Network series, with Warner Bros. Pictures handling the distribution.
According to Variety, Silver's goal is making "a potential franchise starter" for the action flick. "I think we have to try something fresh and go at it in a way that stays true to the original material," so he said. "I have a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old, so it's somewhere between them." Steve Richards from Dark Castle added, "We really see this as a large, big-budgeted tentpole movie."
Having made a children action film "Speed Racer", Silver suggested that the forthcoming movie will be different. "I tried to do [something similar] with 'Speed Racer' and failed miserably," the producer admitted. "You always learn more from the ones that don't work than the ones that do work.

Alex O'Loughlin and Columbus Short have joined Whiteout for Joel Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment. Kate Beckinsale already has boarded the action thriller being helmed by Dominic Sena. Based on Greg Rucka's acclaimed comic book miniseries, the story revolves around a lone U.S. marshal (Beckinsale) assigned to Antarctica who is investigating the continent's first murder. With only three days until winter, the marshal must solve the crime before Antarctica is plunged into darkness and she is stranded with the killer. O'Loughlin will play a cocky pilot whose hard-partying antics get him into hot water with the marshal. Short will play a wet-behind-the-ears pilot who becomes the marshal's ally during the investigation. Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber penned the adaptation. Whiteout marks the first film to go into production under the company's new structure, which allows Silver to greenlight and finance films autonomously. Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute. Shooting is set to begin this month in Montreal.
Silver and Susan Downey are producing, while Steve Richards, Don Carmody and Rucka are executive producing.
