The "Kids in the Hall" sketch comedy show didn't debut on Canadian television until October of 1988, but the Kids themselves — Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Mike McKinney, Kevin McDonald, and Scott Thompson — first met and formed in Toronto in 1984. The story goes, according to the Canadian Encyclopedia, that McCulloch and McKinney, working with their troupe The Audience, met and fused with Foley and McDonalds, who were already calling themselves Kids in the Hall. Thompson joined in 1985, and the quintet worked the Toronto stand-up scene performing sketches live on stage for about a year. The Kids split...

No one could just pull off the crime of the decade.
Masterminds is based on a true story about a Loomis Fargo robbery, in which a small group successfully stole $17 million—making it the second largest bank heist in history back in 1997.
The film stars Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, Kate McKinnon and Jason Sudeikis.
Here’s the official synopsis:
David Ghantt discovers the true meaning of adventure far beyond his wildest dreams. He is an uncomplicated man stuck in a monotonous life. Day in and day out, he drives an armored vehicle, transporting millions of other people’s money with no escape in sight. The only glimmer of excitement is his flirtatious work crush Kelly Campbell who soon lures him into the scheme of a lifetime.

You’d have to cast your mind back to December of 2015 for the last time Jared Hess heist flick Masterminds made the headlines.
Caught amidst Relativity Studios’ tumble into bankruptcy, there was a time when many feared the starry comedy would never see the light of date. Pushed back a full year, a new trailer has emerged today reminding us all that, yes, Masterminds is still a thing – and it’s arriving sooner than you might think.
Zach Galifianakis and Ghostbusters star Kristen Wiig take point as two lowly schemers, who draw up what they believe to be a foolproof plan to become $17 million richer. Spoilers: things go south pretty fast, and whether you take an inkling for Masterminds will likely depend on your tolerance of Hess’ other features, namely Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre.
Also starring Ken Marino and Leslie Jones, Masterminds is (finally!) expected to arrive on these...

After the uneven Don Verdean, Jared Hess is returning to adventure comedy with more of an action tinge in the new trailer for the long-delayed Masterminds. Sad-sack night guard for an armored car company David Ghantt (Zach Galifianakis) is getting married to Jandice (Kate McKinnon), who comes in a package with her mother. He aspires to be something more, believing he is destined for adventure. Enter Kelly (Kristen Wiig), a new employee with a plan to rob the bank with her cohorts (including Owen Wilson), all the while special agent Scanlon (Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones) is hot on their tail.
Throw in a crazed hitman played by the always-game Jason Sudeikis, Hess’ oddball stylings, and the guaranteed constant improv from the cast, and what you get is the makings of a goofy, potentially dark action-comedy to kick off the fall. Here’s hoping it doesn’t get too bogged down...

In the fallout of Relativity Media’s bankruptcy, major question marks loomed over several high-profile productions, including beleaguered Western Jane Got a Gun and upcoming Kristen Wiig comedy Masterminds. Originally penciled for a release back in August, it is the latter feature that was left languishing in post-production, though Relativity has allayed fears that Jared Hess’ (Napoleon Dynamite) crime caper would never see the light of day, after locking down the film for a release on September 30, 2016.
That’s more than a year after the initial release date set for Masterminds, though at least we have official confirmation of that Hess’ latest comedy is back on track. Of course, with such a starry ensemble, it was highly unlikely that the feature would be left out in the cold, having assembled Wiig, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson for the riotous comedy.

Taking the tried-and-tested identity parade route to posterhood, Masterminds’ new UK quad introduces the heist comedy’s gallery of rogues. Roguing it up from left to right are Owen Wilson’s hapless accomplice Steve; Zach Galifianakis’ armoured car driver-turned-bank robber David; his other sidekick, Kristen Wiig’s Kelly; and Jason Sudeikis’s gormless hitman, Mike McKinney. The intellectual force is not strong in this lot.Formerly known as Loomis Fargo, the long-awaited comedy from Napoleon Dynamite's Jared Hess now goes by that more-than-a-little-ironic handle. Inspired by a true incident in 1997, the story involves armoured car driver David, who channels his antipathy for the job into a plan to liberate a fortune from a bank vault. $17 million dollars worth. Sadly for him, he’s hardly operating at Inside Man or Rififi levels of competence. The trail of evidence for the police practically comes with its own sat-nav.Double-crossed by Steve,...

Between shooting the Ghostbusters remake, starring with Will Ferrell in the ridiculous Lifetime spoof (?) A Deadly Adoption and toplining the bizarre Welcome to Me, Kristen Wiig has been having a pretty packed summer, and today’s reveal of the first full trailer for Masterminds just cements the Bridesmaids actress as one of this season’s most prolific comedy players.
That isn’t to say that the pic looks particularly promising – the trailer isn’t that funny, and the pic is directed by Jared Hess, who hasn’t made a really good movie since 2004’s Napoleon Dynamite (that’s right, Napoleon Dynamite is over a decade old – who else feels really old right now?). But hey, there’s a pretty solid cast, with Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Sudeikis, Wiig’s Ghostbusters companions Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Ken Marino and Devin Ratray all on board, so maybe...

The middle of Spring actually means a new selection of summer blockbusters to look forward to, and with a ton of big-budget films slated to come out within the next few months and beyond, the summer of 2015 looks like one to remember.
From the new Mad Max (which is already on our end-of -year top ten list event though we haven’t yet seen it) to Avengers, Poltergeists, male strippers, talking teddy bears, and a reboot of the Jurassic Park franchise, this summer’s trips to the theaters will be jam-packed with sequels and new tales. From May 1st right through to the end of August, some of the movies on our list could wind up on year-end “best of” lists or even receive some Oscar talk by December.
Grab your calendar, because Wamg has a rundown of this summer’s films we’re most excited about, so check them out below!

Even though Jared Hess hasn’t made a movie in six years since 2009’s Gentleman Broncos, there’s still a small group of Napoleon Dynamite acolytes who love the indie director’s deadpan screwball comedy. And I can’t think of another comic more suited for that brand of comedy than Zach Galifianakis.
In Hess’s latest film Masterminds, Galifianakis is an armored car driver who manages to drive off with $17 million in cash, only to lose it to a pair of reckless, double-crossing criminals on a wild spending spree, forcing him to go on the run as well. Here’s the full synopsis, via Collider:
