Check This Out: Another Awesome Teaser Poster for Kick-Ass

11 November 2009 12:58 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"I can't fly. But I can kick your ass." Yesterday evening the teaser trailer for Kick-Ass hit the web, finally introducing everyone to Mark Millar's awesome comic book "super" hero. In addition to that trailer, a new poster has popped up on MySpace, a one-off teaser poster not like the four connected ones we featured last week. As you can tell, Lionsgate is obviously going with the spray paint motif in their marketing campaign for Kick-Ass, as it was used heavily in the trailer and now it's part of the logo on this poster. Not sure I dig that idea entirely, but I otherwise do like this poster a lot. Check it out and let us know what you think? Kick-Ass is both written and directed by British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, of Layer Cake and Stardust previously. The screenplay was co-written by Vaughn and his writing partner Jane Goldman, »

Kick-Ass Trailer Comes Early!

10 November 2009 6:34 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The first widely released official trailer for Kick-Ass wasn’t meant to hit the interwebs until this Friday, at least according to the official site, but it’s out now and we have it here for you!

Kick-Ass is the precedent setting comic book movie by Matthew Vaughn who took it upon himself to make the movie his own way, the proper way, without the restrictions of Hollywood studios. Instead he made it true to the comics, earned the support of the fans with a huge presentation at Comic-Con and had distributors start a bidding war for it after the fact.

As we know, Lionsgate happily landed the film and set its release for next spring keeping the film intact and paying tribute to Vaughn’s work.

The footage shown at Comic-Con had fans excited and now you can share in that too with this little taste of what’s to come – watch and enjoy! »

Kick-Ass New Character Posters for Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass!

5 November 2009 7:17 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Freakin' sweet! IGN has debuted the first four character posters for Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass tonight. By now everyone has probably heard about this (or seen the leaked Comic-Con footage), so I don't think it needs an elaborate introduction. Kick-Ass is the adaptation of Mark Millar's awesome comic series about a kid who decides to dress up and be a superhero. While it could've been a goofy, Hollywood spoof, Vaughn went all out to make sure it was a bloody, brutal, violent adaptation true to his own pure vision. And that's already starting to show even in the marketing, as these posters definitely look awesome. Check 'em out! Kick-Ass is both written and directed by British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, of Layer Cake and Stardust previously. The screenplay was co-written by Vaughn and his writing partner Jane Goldman, of Stardust as well. The story is an adaptation of Mark Millar »

3D Version of The Woman in Black Coming from Hammer!

4 November 2009 5:59 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Now this is the best news I've heard from Afm all day! Andrew has reported in that Hammer Films, which is having a pretty amazing resurgence already what with The Resident and Let Me In in post-production and currently filming, respectively, is about to tackle one of the best ghost stories ever written, The Woman in Black. And that's not all -- it's going to be in 3D!

Jane Goldman, who is best known for co-writing the big screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Stardust, will be penning the script based on Susan Hill's 1983 novel about a menacing spectre that haunts a small English town. It has had numerous stage adaptations and was turned into a British TV movie in 1989 by Nigel Kneale, creator of the Quatermass science-fiction serials, but this will be its first theatrical version.

The question looms as to how well the tale will take to a 3D treatment, »

Five Cool Movies For Spring 2010

23 October 2009 3:12 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

It’s a slow week for movie releases, with Fantastic Mr. Fox the only release of note in the UK, along with Cirque Du Freak. Most of the remaining big films this year are due out in November and December.

So, with the big winter films already hyped to the max, and with Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans and Robin Hood being the highly anticipated movies this Spring, I thought i’d take a look at some Spring movies that maybe aren’t getting the attention they deserve – The Losers, Green Zone, A Couple of Dicks, Machete and Kick-Ass. Note, this is a list of the films i’m personally looking forward to, so you won’t necessarily agree with me…

The Losers

When is it? – 9th April.

Where is it? – Currently filming in Puerto Rico

Who is it? – Directed by Sylvain White, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, »

Lionsgate wins the battle to Kick Ass

17 August 2009 11:54 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Lionsgate will distribute the Matthew Vaughn movie Kick Ass in North America after a battle between three studios to grab the rights. The film will now receive a wide release in 2010.

The film is about a comics-obsessed teenager who decides to become a real-life superhero, Kick-Ass, despite a decided lack of superpowers. It is based on the comic book by Wanted creator Mike Millar. Vaughn wrote the script with Jane Goldman (they last collaborated on Stardust).

Paramount, Fox and Universal were also in the running to distribute, but the word is that Lionsgate won the battle with a package worth around $45 million. Wow! »

Last week a few studios were contemplating whether or not to distribute Kick-Ass and I predicted that of the three -- Lionsgate, Universal and Paramount -- Lionsgate was the most likely candidate with Universal a few steps behind; Paramount just wanted the free sandwiches. As it turns out, Lionsgate has made an official announcement claiming that Kick-Ass is now theirs. Below you can find the official announcement.

As I suspected, Lionsgate has acquired Matthew Vaughn’s violent action comedy Kick-Ass, which wowed audiences at Hall H in Comic-Con. 3 Studios Eye Kick-Ass

10 August 2009 6:49 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

According to Risky Biz Blog, just two weeks after footage from director Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass was screened at Comic-Con, three studios are now circling the project:

Two weeks after promo footage unspooled at Comic-Con, Kick-Ass, the Matthew Vaughn comic-book adaptation about an everyday teen who becomes a superhero, is closing in on a buyer.

Lionsgate, Paramount and Universal are in the running for the pic, which Vaughn financed independently after some studios found the project's violence too graphic and some of its dialogue too profanity-laced and opted not to board it at the script stage.

But the Comic-Con event garnered a hugely warm response from the fan universe, which has in turn helped convince the companies to reconsider. Buyer screenings followed the week after Comic-Con, and several studios began circling the pic.

Comic-Con: 'Kick-Ass' Panel Provides First Look At Nicolas Cage & Chloe Moretz In Costume, Footage!

24 July 2009 10:41 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

If Thursday's "Kick-Ass" movie panel is any indication, director Matthew Vaughn shouldn't have too much trouble bringing his live-action adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s ultraviolent comic book series to theaters.

Along with offering the very first peek at footage from the film, the "Kick-Ass" panel also provided the first look at the costumes worn by the father-daughter vigilante team played by Nicolas Cage and Chloe Moretz. Over the course of the panel, Vaughn was joined by screenwriter Jane Goldman, "Kick-Ass" creators Millar and Romita, and cast members Clark Duke, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and surprise guest Chloe Moretz. And much like Vaughn promised during our Comic-Con preview, he brought along four scenes from the first act of the film, as well as a montage of the remaining scenes.

The footage offered a great look at what looks to be every bit the faithful adaptation that Vaughn has promised from the start. »

Kick-Ass Panel: 2009 Comic-Con

On the Kick-Ass panel: Director Matthew Vaughn, screenwriters Jane Goldman and Mark Millar, John Romita Jr., Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz.

Vaughn joked about being hosed on getting a distribution deal for Kick-Ass if we didn’t like it. Showed clips from the first act and it was Very funny, like crazy insane funny - which I didn’t expect at all (I’m not familiar with the original comic). Every single clip they showed made the film look more insane than the previous. It included a combination of teenage/R-rated humor with Nic Cage as an odd (to say the least) dad teaching his young daughter what it’s like to get shot, to a scene with Kick-Ass getting his butt saved by the most unlikely of heroines - ever.

The tone of the film looks like it will be all over the place, ranging from real world to wacky »

Kick-Ass Movie (Book) Has A Release Date

8 June 2009 10:40 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The last time we reported on Matthew Vaughn’s (Layer Cake, Stardust) forthcoming superhero movie entitled Kick-Ass was last year when one of the stars, Nicolas Cage, was commenting on his role within the movie. Since then, the movie has been shot and is currently listed as being in post-production.

The movie has been financed by Vaughn’s production company Marv Films, with no big studio ties nor any sort sort of release/distribution info attached as of yet.

Based on the ongoing Mark Millar comic of the same name, Kick-Ass follows a young, normal New York City high school student who one day decides to go from a simple fan of comic books to becoming a real life superhero himself, despite not having any superpowers or training. Along the way he meets with dangerous situations, notoriety as an “everyday superhero,” and other superhero wannabes just like him. For those »
