Starring Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and set in a gorgeously ominous castle, the new gothic thriller Voice from the Stone is now out in theaters and on VOD and Digital HD from Momentum Pictures, and we caught up with the film's director, Eric D. Howell, for our latest Q&A feature, and we've also been provided with a new clip from the movie.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Eric. What attracted you to this story and made you want to bring Andrew Shaw’s adaptation of Silvio Raffo’s novel to life on the big screen?
Eric D. Howell: The script was one that literally made me want to read under a blanket with a flashlight. It had familiar gothic motifs, but told a story about love, loss, grief, and fear in a way that was completely compelling and original. Andrew is...

Coverage of Isa’s (international sales agents) resumed for The American Film Market. This segment follows leaders and innovation in the world of international film sales and distribution.
Sales veteran and President of 13 Films Tannaz Anisi launched her Los Angeles based distribution and finance company just a year ago at The American Film Market. Her expertise, honest work ethic, and keen sensibilities are widely respected in the industry and have helped her to start 13 Films with strong financial backing.
One year later, Tannaz shares the latest progress on this exciting venture:
I launched 13 Films a year ago, so this Afm marks my one year anniversary. It’s very exciting to see how far the company has come since its inception, as we continue to grow and build a full slate of films.
Given my background as a foreign sales agent, the timing was right to start my own company and I was able to secure strong investors to back my vision.
My aim is to seek cast-driven, commercial films with theatrical potential across all genres. Our eclectic state includes romantic comedies, action films, thrillers and family films.
We’re looking for about eight to ten films a year in pre-sales, peppered with a few finished films.
What is your background in sales?
For the last seven years, I was a freelance sales consultant and had the opportunity to work for some of the leading companies in the business - Voltage Pictures and Sierra/Affinity, to name a few.
Over the years, I developed great relationships and relished being able to work on high profile projects. However, I felt I was ready to make the transition from freelance consultant to having my own company and being able to immerse myself in my own projects.
Once I secured the financial investment, it was time to move forward with full force and determination.
How did you first get involved in the business?
I’ve been in the industry for about 18 years.
My very first job in the industry was working in production actually. I worked for PentAmerica Pictures, which was a partnership between Vittorio Cecchi Gori and Silvio Berlusconi.
Way back when I got the chance to work as an assistant at Afm, I fell in love with foreign sales from the very first moment. Since then, I was determined to succeed in the field and started from the ground up. I sought out the right opportunities to learn and absorb as much possible to reach the level where I’m at today.
My sales background started in television sales – I was fortunate enough to work for some of the bigger independent companies such as Win, Kushner-Locke and 20th Century Fox before moving into film.
What inspires you in your work?
What I love most is the face-to-face interaction with people from all over the world.
It’s truly fascinating and what drives me to continue doing this every day. The world is such a melting pot of different cultures, and being able to constantly meet and do business with buyers from across the globe is very rewarding. There’s never a dull moment.
Please talk about the 13 Films Slate.
We just announced our big, new project - "Voice From The Stone", which is a supernatural thriller starring Emilia Clarke from “Game of Thrones.”
It’s a haunting script produced by Dean Zanuck who also produced "The Road to Perdition". The film is currently shooting in Italy which is very exciting.
I have two other new projects too – an action film called "Extortion", which is a very fun project with Frank Grillo attached and set to start shooting by the end of November.
Another key title for us is the comedy "Loitering With Intent", which was well received at the Tribeca Film Festival this year and stars Sam Rockwell and Marisa Tomei. We showed the film for the first time to buyers here at Afm, and were thrilled with the response. It will be released theatrically in the Us by The Orchard, a Sony Pictures company.

Terry Gilliam remains one of the few directors of today who is not afraid of risk. He thinks big, lives outside the box and creates films that have layers upon layers of metaphors. He also assumes his viewers are intelligent, so his stories are complex, multi-layered, yet I think they’re important, and humanistic. The themes of his films are usually about people at the crossroads of their lives, who see a dysfunctional world that gets ignored by most, and tries to make some sort of sense of it. And the more the odd, the more bizarre, the more fun Gilliam has. It tells me that he tries –and while sometimes fails at it- more than others to show his audience that being predictable and safe may make you feel comfortable, but it’s a false reality. I fear, at times, that his genius as a filmmaker, as an American treasure,...

If recent headlines about Adrienne Maloof and Paul Nassif's messy separation are any indication, Season 3 of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" is going to be a doozy. And the new sneak-peek of the upcoming season certainly promises lots of drama -- and lady kissing!
In addition to some girl-on-girl pecks, there's Suzanne Somers talking about sex, Kim Richards undergoing plastic surgery, Brandi Glanville tearfully confronting one of her ex's flings (not LeAnn Rimes), Camille Grammer making out with her super-hot boyfriend, ladies fighting, husbands fighting, and a Beverly Hills mansion burning!
Plus, we get a look at new cast members Marisa Zanuck, wife of movie producer Dean Zanuck, and former model Yolanda Hadid Foster.
Check out the Season 3 trailer below, and tune in for the premiere on Nov. 5 at 9 p.m. on Bravo.

"No one will escape the drama in Beverly Hills." So says the tagline for season-three of Bravo's Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and based on the new trailer just released into the universe, they are not kidding. There's girl-on-girl action, Suzanne Somers, cross-dressing, vow renewals, plastic surgery, and Brandi Glanville in tears. And that's just the first minute of the trailer! The second half is where things get really juicy. Viewers are also treated to a first glimpse of new castmembers Marisa Zanuck (who's married to movie producer Dean Zanuck) and former model Yolanda H. Foster. And based on the catfights and cursing, we think they'll fit in just fine. But...

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills are back, and Adrienne Maloof's divorce drama is poised to take center stage. Of course, no Housewife worth her salt would allow one woman to take all the glory. Real estate agent Marisa Zanuck (who's married to movie producer Dean Zanuck) and former model Yolanda H. Foster join Maloof, Brandi Glanville, Kim Richards, Kyle Richards, Lisa Vanderpump and Taylor Armstrong for season 3, which premieres Nov. 5 (9 p.m. Et) on Bravo. Meanwhile, Camille Grammer may not be an official Housewife per se, though she will appear on the show. Related: Adrienne Maloof Gets Custody of Kids,...

The bling of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is back!
The diamond clad ladies of Beverly Hills return for an all new season this fall with a new Housewife, a new Friend of the Housewives, and fan favorite Brandi Glanville getting her official Housewives diamond to hold in the credits. Original Rhobh Housewife Camille Grammer will return on a recurring basis, while the rumors of Taylor Armstrong and Kim Richards receiving their walking papers were greatly exaggerated since they both are in attendance in the press release and trailer.
Joining the cast will be Yolanda H. Foster, who is the wife of Grammy winner David Foster. By the looks of things, Yolanda will not see eye to eye with Adrienne Maloof nor Taylor Armstrong as she insults the former and tells the latter that they irk the hell out of her. Did we mention that Yolanda was a former...

A few years have passed since Terry Gilliam's last film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and although he directed a couple of short films since then, most of his time has been focused on trying to resurrect his ill-fated adaptation of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Although Robert Duvall and Ewan McGregor were reportedly attached to star, the financing fell through back in 2010 and it now appears that the project is dead for a second time. The good news is that this means he is moving on to something else, and he will apparently be returning to science-fiction for the first time since Twelve Monkeys back in 1995. The project is called The Zero Theorem and Christoph Waltz is attached to star. Hit the jump to check out the plot synopsis. According to Deadline, Christoph Waltz will play Qohen Leth, a computer genius who is trying to answer one...

Christoph Waltz is set to star in Terry Gilliam's next project "The Zero Theorem" reports Deadline.
Pat Rushin penned the script set in an Orwellian corporate world run by a shadowy figure called 'Management'. Waltz plays an eccentric and reclusive computer genius plagued with existential angst who works on a mysterious project aimed at discovering the purpose of existence once and for all.
Other characters in this world include a "flamboyantly lusty love interest" with virtual sex on their mind, and the rebellious whiz-kid teenage son of Management. Thrown in a journey into the hidden dimensions of the lead's own soul and you've got a very Gilliam sounding feature.
Shooting kicks off in Romania in late October with Dean Zanuck producing. The film will be Waltz's first job after recently wrapping filming on Quentin Tarantino’s "Django Unchained".

Inglourious Basterds star Christoph Waltz has landed another great role in director Terry Gilliam's next film project The Zero Theorem. I love Gilliam's insanely cool storytelling style, and in his next film Waltz will play a character named Qohen Leth, described as "an eccentric and reclusive computer genius plagued with existential angst who works on a mysterious project aimed at discovering the purpose of existence—or the lack thereof—once and for all." The movie was written by Pat Rushin, and the story seems to fit right in with Gilliam's wildly bizarre imagination, and Waltz is sure to be great in it!
Living in an Orwellian corporate world where “mancams” serve as the eyes of a shadowy figure known only as Management, Leth (Waltz) works on a solution to the strange theorem while living as a virtual cloistered monk in his home—the shattered interior of a fire-damaged chapel.

After so many false starts, cancellations, and financial collapses, Terry Gilliam is finally getting a new film into motion. It was just last month when the gonzo sort offered up the word “Romania” as a hint of what was to come — not that this is much of a hint at all — and Deadline has now pulled back the curtain in a big, descriptive way.
Turns out he’s been developing Zero Theorem, a futuristic techno drama that will star Christoph Waltz. Are you interested yet? The screenplay, by Pat Rushin, revolves around Qohen Leth, “an eccentric and reclusive computer genius” — he’s also said to be a “virtual cloistered monk” — whose own struggles with the human condition implore him to try and seek out what life really means. Or, as suggested, find out if it even means anything in the first place.

Just a few days after reports emerged that she had signed on to "Still I Rise", actress Maggie Gyllenhaal has locked down both a new film and stage gig.
Gyllenhaal will star in the supernatural thriller "Voice from the Stone", based on Silvio Raffo's novel "Le Voce Della Pietra" reports Variety. She plays a nurse drawn to the aid of a young boy who is haunted by malevolent forces within the walls of an old house in the Italian countryside.
As she develops a relationship with the boy's father, she also becomes haunted by the same evil presence and must fight to save herself and the boy. Eric Howell directs the project while Dean Zanuck and Stefano Gallini are producing.
Gyllenhaal begins shooting "Still I Rise" next week, and is also attached to star in both the Hugh Dancy feature "Hysteria", and a biopic of musician Bill Monroe. She's...

Hollywoodnews.com: Maggie Gyllenhaal doesn’t work as frequently as her brother, Jake, but when she chooses a project – be it an indie like “Sherrybaby” or a blockbuster like “The Dark Knight” – it usually has meaning.
So we’re immediately paying close attention to “Voice From the Stone,” a supernatural thriller directed by Eric Howell that has lured the leading lady, according to Variety.
As the trade puts it, Gyllenhaal would play a nurse “drawn to the aid of a young boy who is haunted by malevolent forces within the walls of an old house in the Italian countryside.”
Sounds reminiscent of “The Orphanage,” which was brilliant. Dean Zanuck and Stefano Gallini are on the hook to produce “Voices,” which is based on the Italian novel “Le Voce Della Pietra” by Silvio Raffo.

With all the "Black Swan" hoopla, am I the only one who thinks that the film, while well-made, is not deserving of all these hyper-crazed adulations? Portman was good, but I prefer Annette Bening's understated performance in "The Kids Are All Right." Or heck, Jennifer Lawrence's "Winter's Bone" performance could easily outdance Portman's delusional ballerina portrayal any day.
And "Winter's Bone," celebrating its true independent spirit, was virtually snubbed at last night's Independent Spirit Awards. Sure, the excellent supporting cast was honored with Dale Dickey winning Best Supporting Female and John Hawkes for Best Supporting Male, but the engaging and deeply haunting Debra Granik movie (with the most nominations totaling to seven nods) lost out to...you guessed it, Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan." (Check out my "Winter's Bone" movie review right here)

On the eve of her likely Oscar win, Natalie Portman was named best actress at the Film Independent Spirit Awards for her provocative performance as a prima ballerina who morphs into her dream role in Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan.” The psychological thriller also took the top prize as well as Best Director and Best Cinematography.
With Oscar host James Franco’s win for best actor for his tour de force turn in “127 Hours,” Fox Searchlight led the honors among independent distributors with five Spirits.
